SABAR Community Health Center Team Project Our goal was to create a community-based space where people can receive needed medical, dental and vision care as well as educational and temporary residential needs in a way that supports a diversity in culture for the long-term.

SABAR’s Community Center included a welcoming intake and reception area, community activity area, a health clinic, educational space and temporary residences for those who need immediate housing assistance. It also include offices and workspaces for SABAR Community’s team of doctors, nurses, educators and ancillary support staff in the design.

The design features natural, exposed wood beams contrasting with light walls and furniture to give the space a warm, open feel where SABAR’s guests can socialize and feel a sense of community or find a quiet place of respite. Splashes of pastel hues throughout will make this comfortable and calming environment even more inviting.

The Health Clinic nursing station is centrally located with access from the east side and west side.

Nursing staff have a clear site line on all examination rooms for patient safety and easy access.

Examination rooms have textured wallpaper compliant with healthcare cleaning requirements that also provide acoustic absorption while the entire health center has access to natural daylight through skylights along all corridors and transoms over each interior wall to allow light to cast across the ceiling. Handwashing stations are located on the wall at opposite corners of the clinical area providing easy workflow access for clinicians.

The SABAR Community Center also features an education center to serve a diverse range of educational needs for multiple groups. With a design concept of “education for development”, daycare services are provided for children from infancy to age 6 in a secure, nurturing environment. classrooms have access to natural daylight with furnishings in bright engaging colors to stimulate a sense of anticipation in learning.

Resource rooms allow for artistic creation in learning as well as provide teaching spaces for technology and language development. Teachers and Counselors have dedicated flex spaces to accommodate the changes needs of the education population.

Designing office spaces for dedicated teams involves creating environments that cater specifically to the needs and preferences of a particular team or department within an organization. This approach aims to enhance collaboration, communication, and productivity by providing a workspace that aligns with the unique requirements of the team. With the goal of balancing collaboration with individual work needs, I included private workspaces or focus rooms for tasks that require concentration and used soundproofing and visual barriers to minimize distractions.

Firefly Music Festival

The design challenge for this project was to create a pop-up mall with shipping containers.

Included are a bar, a retail café and a stay place. I chose to build my pop-up mall at the Firefly Music Festival for concert enthusiasts to gather and share the magical experience of a music festival in the forest. The design concept of “Midsummer Night’s Dream” was incorporated throughout. When designing these spaces, determining an efficient layout that maximizes the use of space while still providing a comfortable and functional environment is essential. Shipping containers are made of metal which conducts heat and cold, therefore climate control for interior spaces must be considered. Creating an inviting and visually appealing space is essential for attracting customers, therefore the design should consider the overall branding and concept which was accomplished in the form of art, outdoor seating, display of retail merchandise, landscaping and creative use of materials to make these spaces attractive and unique.

Welcome to the newly restored and renovated Glove Factory located in the North end of Old Town Alexandria, Virginia. This 45-unit condominium complex features multiple bedroom units along with modern amenities allowing accessibility for all. Every home is equipped with smart assist technology for universal design.

The number of Americans over 65 will reach 70 million or 20% of the population by 2030.

Studies show that 90% of seniors would prefer to age in place rather than move to an assisted living residence. Future residential development plans can put aging-in-place into practice by adapting homes for residentspecific needs and anticipating future needs by considering accessibility through evidence based design in an ADA compliant space.
