As a child I was a huge Dr Who fan, which I guess is where my obsession with time travel began
I would marvel at the sight of the TARDIS,make my own sonic screwdrivers and hide behind the sofa with the rest of the nation during the scary bits, marvel at the trip hazard that was Tom Baker?s scarf and not even think about how flammable the companions 80?s hair dos were The thing that really reeled me in though wasn? t the awful special effects or the robot dog,it was being able to relive history Okay, they could go forward too,but this interested me less I guess my fascination with time travel is really my interest in history via another portal
on the high street used to sell, or wave off the joy seekers on the paddle steamers from Portishead pier on their jollies
To be able to meet some of the residents of those amazing Victorian villas, see the lake in the Lake Grounds being dugout or mingle with members of ?Dad?s Army?
manning the gun posts on Battery Point
I simply can? t imagine what a Portishead without Wyndham or Avon Ways would look like, and don? t get me started on the railway! To have been behind a locomotive chuffing up steam clouds whilst pulling into the station where Waitrose is now would be the icing on the cake for my trip in the TARDIS
Through the years the Doctor visited Pompeii before the eruption, got up close and personal with Queen Victoria, met the passengers on the Titanic and was responsible for the disappearance of Agatha Christie! This made me insanely jealous as I?d loved to have seen all these things and met these people
It got me to thinking,if I could step into a time machine, where would I go? Who would I want to meet? What would I want to see? You might prefer to travel forward in time and see what future you was up to,how successful your children are,or what the lottery numbers are coming up next week so you can pay off the mortgage and retire?!
For me though I?d love to wander along the Esplanade here in Portishead amongst the Victorian gents with their top hats and starched collars and the ladies with the crinoline skirts and parasols I?d delight in being able to see what all the shop fronts
Equally though,to some will be what future Portishead might be like Will the High Street be back-to-back coffee shops? Will they have finally repaired the pavement at the bottom of the marina that constantly floods? Will there actually be trains running on the track?
Whatever your choice of travel direction, there is no doubt that Portishead was,is now and certainly will be,a fascinating place to visit
Where would you go in your time machine? Let me know on socials,I?m @downsyofficial
On Monday 4th March 2024 the Royal National Lifeboat Institution (RNLI) celebrated 200 years of saving lives at sea Since the charity was founded in 1824,its volunteer lifeboat crews and lifeguards have saved an incredible 146,277 lives
Lifeboat crews and lifeguards are known for their courage, but none of their incredible rescues would be possible without the kindness shown by the public as since 1824,the kit, training, lifeboats and fuel they?ve needed to save lives has been funded by donations
The Portishead Lifeboat Trust operated a rescue service for around 20 years before being adopted in to the RNLI in 2015 and with it came a new lifeboat station, more training and better facilities for the local volunteers who operate this vital service
Serving communities along the coast in the Bristol Channel,Portishead is the 238th lifeboat station, the most recent within the RNLI
As part of its celebrations to mark the organisation?s bicentenary,RNLI Portishead invites you to join them for an open day on Sunday 28th April at the lifeboat station on Pier Road
The fun starts at 10am with an opportunity to chat with the volunteers and meet other search and rescue agencies There will be a rescue display and a rare chance to get on My Lady Anne, the Atlantic 85 class lifeboat Refreshments will be available and there will be fun activities for the children, including the very popular Beach Buddies puppet shows The day will round off around 3pm with the organisation?s very own shanty band, the amazing The 85ers,who sang for the King and Queen at the Coronation last year

At the age of 39 Hannah Douglas has been playing bowls for around three years and she?s on a mission to quash the myth that bowls is a hobby for old people!
Hannah talked to Enjoy editor Tracey Fowler about the enjoyment the game brings her and how this hobby has resulted in her making some lifelong friends
What m ade you take up bowls?
I started playing after Covid and the dreaded lockdowns I have cystic fibrosis (CF),a condition that causes a build-up of mucus in the lungs, digestive system and other organs, causing a wide range of challenging symptoms that affect the entire body After long periods of isolation and sometimes hospitalisation,I was desperate to get back out in the fresh air with other people Ideally I wanted a hobby that will keep me active, but my condition restricts what exercise or sport I can take part in Bowls is a team sport but the exercise involves walking on the flat, bending and rolling a ball with precision, which is something that practice allows you to improve I can manage that! So bowls seemed the ideal sport for me ? it was gentle exercise and it involved meeting people I can also play while wearing my oxygen
How did you becom e a m em ber of the bowls club?
I knew someone who played bowls at the green at Portishead Lake Grounds and chatted to them about it I discovered that there are four clubs that share the two Portishead greens and Monday night was club night for the RBLWomen?s team That suited me so I rocked up one Monday night on my own and was made so welcome I joined straight away and gave it a go!
Were you any good?
Well I wasn? t that bad actually On Monday club nights we meet up and before heading to the bar to socialise,we roll up for an hour during which time coaching is available for those who want it I took advantage of the coaching and have learned how to improve my game I play in league matches these days and love it!
What about the social side of things?
This is as important to me as the sport itself It was never just about playing bowls I have made some lifelong friends, enjoy regular socialising at the bar and watching games on sunny summer evenings Bowls is often thought of as a gam e for old people, why do you think that is?
It may well be because many clubs have games during the day Monday to Friday, which suits retired people Whilst there are games during the day at our club, there are also evening matches and friendly games at weekends so it?s definitely not just for people who don? t work during the day
Our club has ladies of all ages and from all walks of life One of our members works in the pharmacy of a big hospital but she still manages to play some of the daytime matches scheduled on weekdays but if she can? t make it she?ll play in the evening or weekend matches instead You can play as little or as much as you like really
How can people join or find out m ore?
The club always welcomes new bowlers - anyone can pop in on a club night or to find out more email Kate Strong at katestrong1950@gm ail com
Running and jogging are popular pastimes for many - they offer both physical and mental wellbeing benefits,in addition neither cost a lot to do and you can do them at any time to suit you
While some people prefer to run alone or with a friend, others choose to join running clubs or train for and participate in fun runs, athletics races or marathons
April sees the start of the marathon season in the UK
The TCSLondon Marathon, this year taking place on 21st April,is one of the most popular marathons on the planet and more than one million people have completed the event since it began in 1981Places are awarded by ballot, with thousands applying to participate each year and a draw taking place to decide who actually gets a place on the start line
Every year a number of enthusiasts from Portishead take part, but there are also plenty of marathons and shorter runs that take place closer to home that are enjoyed by many a local runner
One way to develop your running is to join a club Portishead Running Club is based at the hut opposite Portishead Open Air Pool at the Lake Grounds and provides opportunities for runners of all abilities to enjoy and develop their
running in an environment that is friendly, sociable and mutually supportive
The club offers a variety of group runs each week All the sessions are hosted by the club?s own App and led by dedicated run leaders.
If you?re thinking of taking up running and would like to join the Portishead Running Club you can find out more at www portisheadrunningclub com
If you are serious about your running and you want to invest in some kit, look no further than The Sports Shop in Portishead High Street Here you will find everything you need for running from a wide variety of shoes including specialist running brands such as Saucony,Mizunu and 361,to the Ronhill range of quality clothing that is long lasting and designed especially for sport participants The men and women?s running t-shirts are all made with carefully selected
performance fabrics in a range of lengths, thickness, designs that are lightweight and breathable, many with reflective detailing Call in to view the different products and ranges available and talk to Mark and his team, they really know their stuff when it comes to sportswear, equipment and accessories
Enjoy reader Oli Thompson shares his favourite Portishead dog walk
I?ve been trying out all the dogs walks shared on the pages of Enjoy over the past year and feel that most of the walks I know in our town have now been covered, however, while parts of this walk I?m sharing have been covered in some of the walks printed,I don? t think one has specifically been lighthouse to lighthouse
My family like to walk the dog together in fine weather and we like to start at Battery Point where there are lovely views and an information board giving us a bit of history Parking at the Lake Grounds right on the seafront is free (at the moment) and easy
rocks and generally relaxing and having fun
We keep our dog Missi on a lead here ? there are signs telling you to do this, plus there are strong currents in the Channel and we don? t want the dog running in to the water and getting in to trouble We head off from Battery Point along the pebble beach and half way along walk up the slope provided to join the Esplanade, under our watchful eye the children will sometimes stick to the beach a little longer It?s important to heed the signs here telling you to keep away from the mud as it can be quite dangerous,it?s easy to sink in it and get stuck. At the end of
Esplanade we walk a few metres up the hill of Beach Road West and turn right in to Kilkenny Field, passing the parked cars until we are far enough away from the road to let the dog off the lead It?s here we throw a ball and our two children, aged five and seven, can have a good run around with the dog
Moving on,we walk along the field with the Bristol Channel to our right, until we locate the cliff path where, just to be safe,we pop the lead back on to Missi We follow this route and it takes us to Sugar Loaf Beach where Black Nore Lighthouse proudly sits, just along from Portishead Yacht and Sailing Club Here we remove the lead again and while away the time taking in the views, playing on the
If you have a favorite dog walk you would like to share
We head back to the car taking the same route and depending on the time of year and time of day,we might stop off at the dog friendly Windmill Inn which is now on our right as we walk back towards Kilkenny Field,or we might finish off with a hot chocolate at the Lido Café adjacent to the open air pool back alongside Battery Point, while thinking how lucky we are to live in Portishead!
Doggy day care has become increasingly popular among pet owners in recent years and for good reason This unique service offers numerous benefits for both dogs and their owners Whether you have a busy schedule, need to provide socialisation opportunities for your furry friend,or simply want to ensure they receive the attention and care they deserve, day care for your dog can be a great option
Bex said:?At The Country Canine we believe every dog should feel happy and content Interacting in the company of other dogs is paramount to their happiness and fulfilment and that?s where The Country Canine comes in Dogs can run and play off lead in our 19000 sq foot secure outdoor play area filled with toys and agility equipment We also have three connecting ?home from home?living rooms, complete with sofas for the dogs and separate areas for rest and sleep
Bex Letts has spent months developing an amazing day care centre for dogs, alongside her dog grooming facility set in the grounds of the family farm in Clapton in Gordano where she lives
Our careful and thorough assessment of each dog enables us to ensure each dog enjoys its time with us and is settled and content "

Growing up listening to early rock and blues Mike Palomares dreamed of getting into the music business He started playing guitar at the age of 14 and joined a band at 15 By the age of 17 despite his love of music and art,he knew choosing a profession in a respected field was the more stable option
Yearning to at least do something artistic and creative,Mike decided to follow in his mother?s footsteps and chose a career in hairdressing His skills combined with an entrepreneurial streak saw him finishing an apprenticeship in Portishead while travelling to London on many training courses at Vidal Sassoon and Toni & Guy,before opening his own salons
As a teenager Mike Palomares?ambition was to one day reach people with his music on a professional level, now half a century later his music career has never been stronger
Some years later Mike?s wife Lyn,who was in the pub industry, had the opportunity to take on the White Hart pub in Weston in Gordano, which she ran for five years and gave Mike the opportunity to get involved in live music at the pub
Mike and Lyn eventually ?retired?from the White Hart in 2013,shortly after the birth of the first of their six grandchildren, but a quiet life wasn? t on the cards for Mike as his music career shifted up a gear! He talked to Enjoy about his journey
Even though m usic was in your veins do you think you m ade the right choice to go in to hairdressing?
Yes I do Not only did it serve me well,it was also beneficial to my daughters
After managing and teaching at a salon in Bristol,at the age of 25 I decided to open my first salon in Westbury-on-Trym which I ran for five years I then returned to Portishead to open Palomares Hair Design at 8 The Triangle,West Hill, which I ran for around 25 years My daughters Jade and Rhea also trained and worked there I loved running the salon and being in the heart of the community while using my creativity to make people look and feel good I?m also proud to see how well my girls have done in the industry, carving out careers they have maintained after having children of their own
Did you ever not do your m usic?
Yes I gave it all up for a good number of years as my career took over and that and raising a family took precedence I continued to listen to music of course and never lost interest
How did you satisfy your desire to play and share m usic?
I?ve always loved the blues and got into gospel music, becoming a church worship leader for several years Whilst running the Portishead salon I rekindled a friendship with drummer/vocalist Steve Sayers and we formed a rhythm and blues band - One Night Stand One Night Stand and gigged in local venues as a hobby
Why did you decide to close the salon?
The girls had partners and were looking at taking time off to start families and I realised this would be a good time to ease into retirement It also gave me an opportunity to get involved in live music at the local pub my wife was running
How did you progress with your m usic?
We introduced a live music scene at the White Hart and organised charity music festivals where One
Night Stand often played I started up an acoustic night too, welcoming all players to come along and jam together which really took off Many new bands got going as a result of this It was here I met Richard Sidwick and our musical friendship began We formed a duo - Slick & Rich - which took us out playing all types of venues, pubs, weddings, festivals etc.
Where are you now when it com es to your m usic?
Oh blimey ? that?s a whole new story!
You can find out more about Mike and his music overleaf
Local musicians and best of friends,Mike
Palomares and Rich Sidwick have been playing music together for more than 15 years, but it wasn? t until Covid 19 hit that they turned their attention to collectively writing songs 2019 saw the passing of Rich?s biggest supporter, his father and Rich used his music as a way of expressing his feelings, writing the duo?s first song Poppa Moon This was the beginning of Born and Brewed Their music reflects everything from Rich?s challenges with mental health and addiction to the joy of his marriage to Becky and the birth of their son Jaques and Mike?s pain at suffering the loss of both of his parents and the anguish of his daughter Jade becoming seriously ill with Covid, the premature birth of her daughter and the joy of their return to health Mike and Rich hope through their music they can help and inspire others to heal
Mike (Slick) Palomares and Rich (Beardymud) Sidwick formed Born and Brewed in Portishead in 2019, creating an infusion of Americana/ bluegrass/ country blues with a gritty edge Previously playing together for 15 years under the guise of Slick and Rich, the duo?s strong links to the South West?s music scene have helped define their sound, influenced by Dark Country artists Johnny Cash,The Deep South and Blues artists Muddy Waters,Chris Rea and Larkin Poe
Mike provides an atmospheric backdrop with his blues guitar, whilst Rich overlays his raspy vocals to provide the smoky quality in their music
In 2022 one of the duo?s songs - Whiskey in the Water ? was nominated for best classic and blues song in the Radio Wigwam International Music Awards The
song, which tells about the struggles of addiction, was shortlisted out of 4,500 songs in the classic rock and blues category and early in 2023 Mike and Rich found themselves sitting at the prestigious awards ceremony in London where they were named winners in their category
Mike said:?We were amazed! We didn? t expect to win; to be honest we were just really chuffed to get nominated We were blown away when Whiskey in the Water was announced as the winner "
Rich,a mature student currently doing a degree in music production, said:?It?s still early days but we are amazed at the response we are getting to our music ?
On 29th February 2024 Born and Brewed released their single ? Broken - which is attracting attention from fans around the globe
The duo is currently spending time in the studio writing, filming and recording songs for their album ? Born & Brewed Established

Are you one of the millions of adults who are unhappy,self-conscious or even embarrassed about their smile and feel in need of teeth straightening? Many adults spend their entire lives covering their mouths when they laugh, smile or talk They feel stuck because they do not want to wear metal braces for years or they are concerned that other corrective teeth straightening procedures could be too invasive or too expensive. At Lime Tree Dental Practice in Portishead we offer ClearCorrect®- a clear aligner therapy
ClearCorrect is the clear and simple alternative to braces It is a series of clear,custom-made, removable aligners that gradually straighten your teeth as you wear them Each aligner moves your teeth a little.
They're practically invisible,so most people won't even know you're in treatment They fit you closely,so they're more comfortable than regular braces They're removable,so you can eat whatever you like and clean your teeth normally
Clear aligners gradually improve appearance and function by applying gentle, consistent pressure to a patient's teeth Clear aligners are popular because they can do a lot of the things traditional orthodontics can do,yet more discreetly and conveniently All patients just need a dental examination and x-ray,to ensure their mouth is healthy before treatment
We have a youtube video showing me (dentist & practice owner) and Emily, one of our dental nurses, talking about her ClearCorrect aligner treatment You will see how we use 3D scans before treatment, how we plan the treatment and review the end result Scan the QRcode,to watch the overview video of Emily?s treatment
Call us to book a FREEconsultation with me,this can be an online video chat from the comfort of your own home if you prefer There is absolutely no obligation,it?s just a friendly chat to see how we can transform your smile

Phobias, irrational and persistent fears, can significantly disrupt daily life affecting everything from personal relationships to career prospects
Whether it's a fear of spiders, heights,or public speaking, phobias can trigger intense anxiety, panic attacks and avoidance behaviours However, hypnotherapy offers a promising avenue for overcoming these debilitating fears
Through hypnotherapy, clients can access their subconscious mind to uncover the root causes of their phobias By identifying and addressing underlying traumas or negative beliefs, hypnotherapy empowers individuals to reframe their perspectives and responses to feared stimuli
This process often involves relaxation techniques and guided imagery to promote change and receptiveness to positive suggestions
Unlike traditional therapies, that may take months or even years to yield results, hypnotherapy can often produce significant improvements in just a
few sessions Clients can experience profound shifts in their perceptions and behaviours, enabling them to confront their phobias with newfound confidence and resilience
Moreover, hypnotherapy offers a non-invasive and drug-free approach, making it suitable for individuals of all ages and backgrounds
With the guidance of a skilled hypnotherapist, clients can embark on a journey of self-discovery and transformation, reclaiming control over their lives and embracing a future free from fear

As a 22-year-old, Bethany Barrett wasn? t sure Slimming World was for her Then her GP offered her membership on referral and she discovered that the organisation?s weight loss support is for everyone
"As I watched my two younger sisters smiling for the wedding photographer in their fitted dresses,I wished I felt as confident My size-22 jumpsuit only just fitted and felt like it was going to tear open any moment
greeted with warm smiles I was amazed to find I could eat carbs like pasta and rice without even weighing them!
Going to group became something I looked forward to The members were a real mix of ages , we were all there for the same reason and some of the older people at group became my biggest cheerleaders As my weight fell off my self-esteem grew and I felt ready to get started with Body Magic,Slimming World?s physical activity programme
After that wedding ? and feeling fed up with missing out on all the fun life had to offer ? I decided to make a change and went to see my doctor who referred me to Slimming World
I was anxious everyone would judge me for being so big at my age,but as I walked in to the group I was
Thanks to Slimming World I?ve now lost more than 7st, and I no longer feel like I?m trapped inside a body that makes me miserable I?m living my life the way I always wanted to ? feeling good inside and out!"
Figures suggest around 10%of adults in the UKhave been diagnosed with osteoarthritis (OA),but I suspect this is just the tip of the iceberg and there are many, many, more undiagnosed cases Osteoarthritis is not an inevitable ageing disease; some people never develop it
The condition can affect any joint, but typically affects our hands, big toes, knees, hips, lower back and neck. Its signs and symptoms typically show up more often in individuals over the age of 50,but OA can affect much younger people too, especially those who have had a prior joint injury, such as a torn ligament in the knee or previous surgery that involved the meniscus or cartilage It typically develops slowly over time, but after such an injury,it can develop much more rapidly, within just a few years
Anyone can get OA but factors that may contribute to the development of the condition
include age, excess weight, musculoskeletal abnormalities, previous injuries, weak muscles and genetics
There is no cure for OA,but there are many ways to manage it to minimise pain, continue physical activities, maintain a good quality of life and remain mobile
Importantly there is no evidence to suggest that running or other exercise accelerates OA,in fact the opposite - the more you do the more the tissues are stimulated to repair ? think of it as wear and repair
Hyaluronic acid (HA) is a substance that exists in the human body It is a humectant, which means it traps moisture inside cells, keeping them hydrated Inside joints,HA is a key component of synovial fluid, which is responsible for cushioning and lubricating the bones as they move
OA can degrade cartilage,
change bone shape and cause inflammation, resulting in pain, stiffness and loss of mobility,to make matters worse, the quality of HA in the synovial fluid decreases in those with OA, affecting the quality of that cushioning and lubrication around the joints
"I just wanted to let you know on my dog walk this morning my knees were so much better for having the injection The difference from doing the same walk yesterday and today was chalk and cheese. I know this sounds odd, but the knees feel much smoother and freer and the steps I mentioned were so much easier to walk down. Thank you for doing that yesterday."
- Strengthening exercises build muscles around painful joints which can help to ease the stress on them
- Range-of-motion exercises or stretching helps to reduce stiffness and keep joints moving
- Aerobic or cardio exercises help improve stamina and energy levels and reduce excess weight
- Balance exercises help strengthen small muscles around the knees and ankles and help prevent falls
- Weight loss
- Surgery - but this is only as a last resort
HA can be delivered by injection directly into the joint and can also be taken as a supplement orally
Most of the research has been done with injections into knees and the results are very favourable The injections can be delivered as a course, usually four to six weeks apart,or you can have a ?one-off?injection which has a higher concentration of HA The injections aren? t available on the NHSand very few private clinics offer HA injections Walnut Grove has a specialist injecting physiotherapist clinician who can provide HA injections, alternatively we can refer patients to an orthopaedic consultant at one of the local private hospitals that offer this treatment
There are very few associated side effects to the injections, occasional short-term stiffness and pain is sometimes experienced, infection is very rare HA injections are not a cure for osteoarthritis; it neither helps cartilage grow back nor improves
the structure of the joints, therefore the symptoms will eventually return This treatment is most likely to be effective for individuals with mild to moderate osteoarthritis rather than those with more severe symptoms HA injections would be needed periodically to maintain the effects
During the period when pain is reduced and movement increased, one should use the time to seek treatment and advice on alignment, exercises and tackling body weight if that is an issue
Talk to us at Walnut Grove to discuss if HA injections could help you and how we can help progress improvement and reduce the possibility of symptoms returning

Sleep experts at Bed Kingdom say:?While many people resort to a glass of wine or two to help them drift off in the evening, this can actually be detrimental to the quality of our sleep in the long run There are many much more sensible options you can add to your diet to help boost your chance of getting some quality zzz?s?
Here are some of the best foods for a good night?s sleep according to science:
Kiw is
While researchers are not entirely sure why kiwis are so good for sleep, they attribute their slumber-aiding properties to the high number of vitamins and minerals such as vitamins C and E
Cherries
Tart or sour cherries have an antioxidant effect, which can increase total sleep time and efficiency thanks to the high concentrations of the sleep hormone melatonin This can help regulate circadian rhythm and promote healthy sleep
Malted Milk
Most commonly known by the brand name Horlicks, consuming malted milk powder before bedtime has been proven to increase sleep quality and reduce interruptions, thanks to the high levels of vitamins B and D
Oily Fish
Oily fish such as salmon, mackerel and trout are high in vitamin D and omega-3,which help the body regulate serotonin Studies have found that those who eat at least three portions of oily fish a week experience better overall sleep
Nuts
Nuts such as almonds, pistachios, walnuts, and cashews contain melatonin and sleep-promoting minerals like magnesium and zinc, which have been found to help improve the symptoms of sleep disorders like insomnia
As well as sleep-promoting foods, some supplements can help achieve better sleep, these include:
Lavender
The smell of lavender has a relaxing effect as it interacts with the neurotransmitter GABA to act as an anxiety reliever This helps quiet the brain and nervous system activity to aid a good night?s sleep Lavender comes in many scented forms, including pillow sprays, diffusers, and topical creams Cham om ile
Thanks to an antioxidant called apigenin, chamomile has a calming effect on the brain, making it easier to fall asleep This wonder plant can be consumed via tea or supplement form, but make sure to check before consuming it,as it can interfere with certain medications
Magnesium
Supplementing diets with foods high in magnesium has been shown to reduce the stress hormone cortisol and promote melatonin Snacking on dark chocolate, nuts, and seeds will help boost levels naturally Alternatively,it can be taken as a supplement before bed to relax muscles and prepare the body for sleep

Forget what's in or out for 2024,'just do you' says Tracie
FryMy kids laugh when I tell them we had an avocado (dull green) bathroom suite when I was growing up; they can? t understand why anyone would wish to stipple a ceiling or go to the trouble of stenciling on a wall! These were all very trendy at the time, along with magnolia paint and shag pile carpets.Whether you went all-in on curtain swags after too many episodes of Changing Rooms or leaned into the minimalist movement after Googling white space in the noughties, none of us escaped ?what's trending? But here?s the thing all these are stored in our memory banks - those deep coloured bathrooms were in for decades and we all remember magnolia, because it?s the only colour we had on our walls for years - and we won? t be forgetting them any time soon but we have moved on
Before the age of TikTok and Instagram, home interiors were influenced by glossy magazines, TV shows and to be honest what you could purchase in a large department store A trend could
and would last long enough for the investment to pay off and for the neighbours to catch up before the next trend appeared Now,we have a hundred makeover shows offering the latest fads, social media influencers chasing the next big thing and pushing innovative ideas in the hope that something will stick so they get paid their commission and attract more followers the result is? what's ?in? today can be ?out?tomorrow
Trends these days last only a short time and as far as I?m concerned, this is fantastic news! The shift has given us back our freedom, made design ideas accessible to everyone and provides enough inspiration to
really tune into our personalities and allow homes to reflect this. The trend is no longer the lead,it's simply a suggestion,an idea and you can take it or leave it Social media has given us DIYhacks, designer ideas on a budget and the confidence to try new projects without the huge cost of designers or designer item price tags
Personally,I am ready to embrace unique homes and celebrate families feeling more at home in the space they live in I think a home should be our go to place for comfort and security; it should also be where we explore our identity Our homes should reflect the personalities of those who live there not someone else?s! So be bold or be subtle, the choice is yours Create the home you want and who knows you might become a trend setter yourself Tx

By day Harvey Lawrence drives a hearse for his family?s funeral business but at weekends he moves in to the fast lane and drives a racing car on circuits around the UKand beyond
As the new season begins,Enjoy talked to Harvey about his past year in the Caterham race series where he competes in his favourite sport and what?s in store for the year ahead
After com peting at the first level in 2022, you m oved in to the Caterham Roadsport class for 2023, how did that go?
I had quite a good season
Moving up into the Roadsport class meant my car was now faster I had much to learn moving with additional speed, but I gained so much more experience
Over the course of the year,I secured a few podium finishes and travelled all across the UK with the help and support of Caterham and my family I was also one of only 40 drivers from the UK,selected to travel to the
Caribbean to compete in the winter series there I competed in the Caterham Caribbean Cup, hosted at the Bushy Park
Barbados Race Circuit The circuit has some real pedigree, having previously hosted the Race of Champions and Top Gear's World Tour,it's welcomed the likes of F1 legends such as David Coulthard, Lewis Hamilton and Jensen Button,so that was really exciting for me I was doing really well and came in third in one of the big races,so I made the podium despite an early exit
Unfortunately on the last day I had a bad crash Luckily I sustained nothing more than a few cuts and bruises, but there was a fair bit of damage to the car so I couldn? t complete the final races Winning a trophy for an earlier race made it all worthwhile though
What are you looking forward to m ost for the 2024 season?
I?ve moved up to another class now,so 2024 will see me enter a full year in the Caterham 270R championship,a much tighter and competitive grid of drivers, many of whom have much more experience than me and have been racing for a lot longer than I have,so it?s going to be tough.
In May I?ll be racing at the iconic F1 circuit,Zandvoort in Holland; it will be my second time racing there but my first in 270R.The Zandvoort track is amazing ? it swoops and flows through the sand dunes, creating a rollercoaster-like feel to the lap Zandvoort is also located next to one of the most beautiful beaches, making racing well worth travelling for!
What does the future hold with regards to your racing?
I am looking forward to the challenge of racing against stiff competition and I am excited to see how far I can progress, however despite my racing,my commitment to FH Halliday and helping families will always be my priority Even though my driving is a lot slower whilst at work,I still enjoy looking after the fleet of cars at Halliday?s and making sure they are always in the best condition possible
