Cover Design Rationale
Installation Art
Oil pastel on tree bark 2022
TPH Digital Yearbook’s cover design is based partially on a piece of installation art by Leann Chong (International Secondary Yr 12 Art & Design student), whose final outcome is closely related to the theme of ‘growth’.
As 2022 becomes the year of transitioning to life after COVID-19, we would like to celebrate this occasion by choosing this artwork (lower part of the full art work) showing the root of a tree adorned with unique and modern Sarawak patterns and motifs. This is a reflection of healthy growth starting from the long strong roots.
The artwork was created on tree bark using the medium of oil pastel. Her full

installation art was created using her theme ‘Growth & Decay’ whereby she did an in-depth research into the meaning of growth and decay. It is a beautifullly conceptualised and crafted artwork that summarises the two opposite meanings into one enlightening outcome; growth and decay co-exist, and they are part of the cycle of life.

The Executive Principal

Welcome to our Yearbook 2022. This has been an unforgettable year for all of us here at Tunku Putra-HELP. As 2021 drew to a close, our fabulous Kindy students and their teachers had enjoyed having the Campus to themselves for most of the year. Our older students had been back on Campus for only a few weeks. For most of our children, school existed through a few square inches of their screen. We ended the year uncertain if 2022 would bring more of the same. So I’m delighted that, as this year ends, we’re celebrating a full year of uninterrupted face-to-face learning. It is wonderful to hear the sound of children’s laughter each morning, to see the enthusiasm for learning each day, and to see the countless ways in which our School community is flourishing and recon necting.
As we considered the theme for this Yearbook, we were thinking about the ‘story’ of the TPH Campus here at NorthBank. We need look no further than the beautiful raintrees in our Court yard to see how far we have come. Visitors to Campus are always impressed by the way our trees provide a landmark for our students, give them shade under which they can play, and by how magical it feels to be amongst the leaves on Level 4. The trees are also a strong daily re minder of the vision and mission of our School: the idea of the ‘complete person’ … a person of vision, courage and strength, whose behaviour reflects the values of integrity, intellectual curi osity, collaboration, respect, humility and compassion. The Chinese symbol for the ‘complete person’ is, of course, incorporated into the tree of our logo.
It really does feel that this year has been about em bedding our roots firmly in the Northbank soil. We have established new rituals - ‘Board Game Friday’, and our pavement artists getting creative with their chalks, for example. We’ve come together as a community through Family Fun Day and Family Picnic. We’ve loved having proud families join us in the dra matic setting of the Black Box to celebrate successes and milestones with their children. It’s been an abso lute pleasure to witness our first TPH Gala, where our students spent three days completely absorbed in an area of their own interest.

In any community, there are times of sadness, and we grieved together this year when we said goodbye to our beloved and respected maths teacher, Ms Baljit. But the pain of that loss makes each of us thankful for what we have, and determined to make the most of every opportunity we have here.

So we end 2022 with gratitude for what we’ve shared, and with optimism and excitement as we look forward to 2023. There are adventures ahead, and memories to make. We’ll see you there!
