ince I was a teen I have had dreams of owning toyz. I can remember a poster with a garage and about five ultra-luxury sports cars with the caption: “Higher Learning”. The fact is, the desire for “toyz” is what propels one to achieve in profession and enterprise. Toyz spark the imagination. Toyz build the fascination. I speak from example - I wanted to be an engineer because of my love of cars and my son wants to be an engineer because of his love of gadgets. The amazing thing is now toyz are more essential to humanity and prosperity than ever before. With tablets, an entire new population of people can get a free education from MIT, watching lectures, taking exams, and even getting proficiency certification. With electric toyz, it is possible to travel without using gas for weeks, months even. Let’s not even get into the ability to play video games on any portable device and your traditional console becoming a media hub to get on-demand content. Toyz have truly become transformational and the impact will change the direction of humanity this millennium. Enjoy as we evaluate and compile our list of over 100 items that you must have. We have a book due out soon, Own Your Destiny that will provide tips on how to get to your economic goals. In the meantime, Sprint has a free cell phone program and we are giving away two Hulu three-month gift cards. All you have to do is follow us on Twitter at @ownersmag and tweet this list or issue when you do. We will be announcing our winners in short order. As is customary, “Bring your toyz out!” As you can see, courtesy of Mercedes, I’m already out at play.

When you have invented the automobile over 125 years ago, you have a storied legacy of building the platform our entire transportation industry globally benefits from. The CL debuted in 1997 as a name change to the existing S500 Coupe, which in itself created a whole new segment of large luxury coupes slated slightly north of flagship luxury sedans. The CL has traditionally been the model where Mercedes Benz debuts their next generation technology and powertrains and in the CL550, the smooth 4.6L V8 bi-turbo-making 429 HP engine mated to a 7-speed automatic makes its claim as the benchmark engine for its segment, paired with a permanent all-wheel drive system via 4Matic, a a true technological marvel. The CL550 also avoids the gas guzzler tax as it’s a MB Blue Efficiency model with its direct-injected engine that manages to get 23 MPG on the highway which is remarkable as the prior V8 got in the high teens as recent as a few years ago. As the standard bearer for the large grand tourer or luxury coupe the CL550 doesn’t disappoint with superb acceleration in the sub 5-second range, excellent handling, and magnificent ride quality due to its AIRMATIC suspension. Options include a DISTRONIC PLUS cruise control system that can slow the vehicle down to a complete stop and then accelerate to the set speed, Night View Assist PLUS where you can get an additional infrared view in your odometer to see pedestrians in the dark, and every other available option in multi-media and technology Mercedes offers. The CL550 starts at $113,150 and the loaded model I drove topped out at $127,075. For more information visit www.mbusa.comDamola

AUTOMOTIVE » TEST DRIVES « MERCEDES BENZ S400

The Mercedes Benz S-Class has long been the benchmark for luxury sedans. Second to its brethren the S350 in terms of fuel-efficient luxury flagship sedans on the market, the S 400 has a combined output of 295 hp with a 3.5L gasoline engine supplemented by an electric powertrain. Fuel efficiency was a meager 25 mpg on the highway and 19mpg in city driving, which tops most luxury cruisers on the market. The S400 is an exercise in how green can be practical and in my drive with the 2011 edition I was delighted to see every option available in the S550 also available in the S400 including Night View Assist PLUS, DVD video, 8-way rear adjustable seats, the Premium Package and an AMG Sport Package. The S400 was quick enough in my drive around DC with a total power output that is more than the output of the past generation S430. The S400 is the entry level S-Class so you don’t pay a premium for the technology, yet you get every other available amenity with a base price of $91,000. « CLS 550 I remember when I first saw the CLS500 when it debuted in 2005 in the US and my feeling of excitement at how the engineers at Mercedes Benz were able to evolve the design of the E-Class and in the process not only create an entirely new segment but have all their local competitors in Germany and the rest of the world alike change product plans to create a 4-door coupe. A client of ours, a customization outfit called House of Dubs owned one as it became available and getting a chance to really examine the CLS was a true treat. The CLS was revolutionary and for 2012 Mercedes Benz took an evolutionary approach to an already excellent display of design and engineering. The front fascia stands out with the integrated LED lighting along with the large MB emblem in the center grill making the CLS550 a menace as it motors down the highway. You will get noticed in the CLS550 and my son was the talk of his high school when I dropped him off at his Homecoming dance. Standard on the CLS550 is a 4.6 L twin-turbocharged V8 that gets 402 HP and an amazing 443 lb-ft of torque. All this power is mated to a 7-speed automatic with paddle shifters which makes for an exhilarating driving experience behind the wheel. You make 0-60 in a blistering 5.1 seconds yet you do it economically as the CLS550 gets 24 MPG on the highway. When you are the benchmark that everybody follows, you have to constantly raise the bar and with the CLS550 Mercedes Benz did not disappoint. The CLS550 starts at $71,300. ML 350 The ML has always marched to its own beat. When it was launched in the 1998 model year it forged a path that opened a market for other name plates in the luxury SUV segment and now that market has fierce competition from comers all over the globe. For 2012, the ML is entirely redesigned and comes packed with new safety features such as Lane Keeping Assist for drifting drivers, DISTRONIC PLUS cruise control, Blind Spot Assist, ATTENTION ASSIST, PARKTRONIC with Active Park Assist, AIRMATIC air suspension, and more. The interior is also redesigned and the already sumptuous materials are even more refined with rich wool veneers, soft leather, soft plastics and an even higher level of craftsmanship with rich wood and stitched leather well-arranged throughout the cabin. The center stack is also redesigned and features the new COMAND interface with new real-time weather and traffic reporting, DVD video playback, an easy to use knob control, and the expected iPod interface paired with a 7-inch display. The new BlueTEC diesel engine debuts on the ML with a turbocharged 3.0L V6 that makes 240 HP, 455lb-ft of torque and has a 7200-lb towing capacity. The ML also features an AIRMATIC suspension and an ACTIVE CURVE SYSTEM for a superb riding experience. The ML has a 7-speed paddle shifting automatic transmission that was very smooth to operate in the 2012 ML. The ML gets 27 MPG on the highway and was a thrill to drive, especially with the optional 20-inch wheels in the model I drove had. The 2012 ML is an entirely new vehicle that takes a benchmark to new heights and sets new standards for the segment it defined. The ML350 BlueTEC starts at $50,490 and the model I drove optioned out to north of $65,000. For more info visit www.mbusa.com

MB C250 COUPE For the 2012 model year Mercedes has totally redesigned the C-Class and has even added some new variants like the C250 Coupe. A sharp departure from the C230 Coupe of before, the C250 Coupe garnered several thumbs up as I drove around the Washington, D.C. area. The AMG wheel package consisting of a wheels and body kit provides a sportier stance. The seven-speed automatic is smooth and with 229 lb-ft of torque I was impressed with the power of the C250 Coupe. The pickup really impresses along with the turbocharged 1.8L I-4 engine that delivers 201 HP via direct injection. The C250 is also fuel-efficient with an EPA rating of 21 MPG in city and 31 MPG on the highway. The center stack has been redesigned and inside you are treated to a multi-media center that has a backup camera, DVD video playback, SD card playback, iPod integration, satellite radio and more. I really loved driving on I-70 on the unusually sunny days in December using the paddle shifters as I drove uphill and looked through the panoramic roof of this delightful coupe. The handling on the rear drive C250 is superb and the sport AMG wheels and the low profile rubber really hug the road. The starting price is $37,220 and the coupe I drove was optioned to $44,510 with the Premium 1 luxury package, the Advanced Agility package, basically a sports package, and a COMAND package that includes a 10GB hard drive. DRIVE » S 350

O

n a beautiful autumn day, I gathered along with the good people at Mercedes Benz and some journalism colleagues to check out the return of diesel to the Mercedes Benz SClass offering. My family has had a storied history with Mercedes Benz diesels, in particular. My father owned a 190D in the nineties and my college roommate, whose father was an electrical engineer, owned a 300D which we rode in while attending Howard University in Washington, D.C. The old diesels had a familiar sound and were known to be sturdy and last “forever”. The S350 represents the first time Mercedes Benz has offered the diesel in the US since the 1996 model year. Mercedes Benz has done something great with their “efficient” offerings by providing the same option configurations for the hybrid and diesel models as the other gasoline models, giving people who are seeking more fuel-efficient options the same level of craftsmanship as those who covet the high-powered models that start with over 400 HP with the S550 and exceed 600HP with the S65. I also drove the S400 and that review also appears in this issue. The delight, however, was checking out this new S350 diesel which is the most fuel-efficient model in the lineup, providing 31

MPG on the highway along with 20 MPG in the city, both better than the Hybrid S400. The S350 is powered by the all-new 3.0L V6 turbo diesel engine, also found in the ML350 I drove, that gets 240HP and a whopping 455 lb-ft of torque. Splitview, a new technology integrated into the command center, allows passengers to watch videos and movies while the driver can only view the Navigation from the in dash monitor. There is also a rear seat entertainment system, night assist, and a long list of other features, but the most exciting thing about the S350 is the great power and acceleration with the 455 lb-ft of torque which was plenty for driving around D.C. and looping on GW Parkway. The S350 is silky smooth and the turbo mated to the 7-speed automatic is seamless with its shifts. A tremendous job has been done by the engineers at Mercedes Benz to bring a clean diesel powertrain that has no noticeable difference from the gasoline models, yet it has a great advantage in terms of fuel efficiency. BlueTEC engineering has once again set a benchmark with the quintessential luxury sedan, the S-Class, providing customers a strong, energy-conscious alternative in the ultra-luxury segment in the United States. I T

had not gotten a chance to visit Charleston, South Carolina before, but I had traveled to the other side of the state and had done business in Columbia, so I was elated to hang out with my friends at Hyundai and experience two very important cars in their lineup at opposite ends of the spectrum. The Genesis and the Elantra are diametrically opposed, yet they symbolize the assault on the industry Hyundai has taken over the past few years to create a solid place in the marketplace with a new brand identity. My dad owned an Excel in the 80’s, which would probably be the Accent today and looking at the vehicles one would not assume any possible kinship. he 2012 Accent doesn’t seem to share anything with the 2010 Accent, for that matter, as it is all-new with a six-speed option along with both sedan and 5-door configurations. The 3-door option is gone, but with a class-leading 138 HP engine that still gets 40 MPG on the highway you wouldn’t be less for wear. I can’t rave enough about the quality of the interior on the new Accent, which now adopts the fluid sculpture design language and an Active ECO System that makes for a 456mile driving range on the highway. Even better than 40 MPG on the highway is the 30 MPG range you get in city driving. As we drove through the streets of Charleston, I really enjoyed the driving dynamics of the Accent; this wasn’t my father’s Excel. In terms of options, you can get everything from Bluetooth to iPod integration to satellite radio in a warm, premium-feeling cabin that has a piano black potion for the center stack. Now the entry-level car in the Hyundai lineup, the Accent starts at $12,445 for a six-speed manual 4-door and tops off at $16,795 for a six-speed automatic SE 5-Door. hat is a wide range of benefits and features for a car at the entry segment and Hyundai should only continue their dominance and rapid growth in market share. However, my interest was really piqued about the new 8-speed in-house developed transmission and the R-Spec on the Genesis. The Genesis has served as a reclamation for Hyundai by changing the perception of the Korean manufacturer and providing a viable alternative in the marketplace with a well-appointed rear wheel drive, luxury sedan at the mid-$30,000 price point. Sales of the Genesis have been great, so the question is what do you do for a mid-cycle refresh? How about standard LED’s, standard 8-speed automatic transmission, standard 3.8 V6 with 333 HP, improvements on the existing 4.6 L V8, and a new range-topping 5.0 L 429HP V8 R-Spec model? Yes, how is that for resting on your laurels, huh? The new 8-speed was a marvel to me as most manufacturers source out such work to companies like ZF, yet Hyundai did it in-house and came out with tremendous results. he 3.8L V6 was personally my favorite model as it has enough power and you can order two packages, the Premium and Technology that add features like Lane Departure, Adaptive Cruise Control, heated rear seats, DVD navigation, a premium sound system, and more with a base price that begins at $34,200. For $46,500, you get every option including the new 5.0L V8 with 429 HP along with the Lexicon 17-speaker 7.1 surround sound system, new premium 19-inch wheels, sportstuned suspension, and HID auto-cornering headlights which makes the already masterful Genesis a greater competitor. It brings incredible value and matched performance, maxing out at a mid $40,000 price point. I was already a convert so my time behind the wheel was too short and I look forward to a lengthier drive with the refined Genesis. For more information, visit www.hyundaiusa.com

« FORD EDGE LIMITED I remember attending the Edge launch in San Francisco years ago then getting a SYNC demonstration in Las Vegas and my, have things changed. The mid-cycle refresh of the Edge is quite impressive especially with the SYNC technology, featuring the integration of its voice command and hands-free capabilities. The new generation SYNC includes mood lighting, multi-media integration, and sound and navigation with a Sony premium sound system, creating the perfect atmosphere to cruise in style. The Edge is powered by a 285 HP 3.5L V6 engine mated to a 6-speed automatic transmission and features a revised front fascia and 18-inch wheels. For 2012, the Edge adds EcoBoost turbo and also carries over the 3.7L V6 for the Sport model. The Edge Limited costs $36,185. For more information visit www.ford.com

« TOYOTA VENZA V6 AWD The premium crossover market has been facing fierce competition, but the Toyota Venza has always been up to the task. The latest model I drove did not disappoint, as I enjoyed the usual package of premium leather surfaces, a brisk and frisky 3.5L V6 that makes 268 HP with an allwheel drive package that makes it the perfect car for the mid-Atlantic. The chrome grille is pronounced and adds to the stylish stance the Venza presents. Its array of options provides drivers with amenities like a leather-wrapped steering wheel, mahogany wood inlays, Bluetooth streaming audio, NavTraffic, a touchscreen navigation system, a backup camera, iPod integration, heated seats, and a long list of other goodies in this sleek all-wheel drive hauler. A six-speed automatic with sequential shift was fine enough for me to maneuver the streets of D.C. in style and enjoy playing music from my smartphone with JBL surround sound. The Venza starts at $29,550 and the fully loaded model I drove was delivered at $38,000. For more information, visit www.toyota.com

« FORD FLEX TITANIUM AWD Ford has long recognized changes in the marketplace and sought to dictate the future as opposed to having the future dictated to it. One can look at the Flex as an example of a vehicle that shows vision in combining 7-passenger functionality with crossover ride quality and cutting edge multimedia capabilities with a new power train. The Flex Platinum with EcoBoost is a perfect evolution of the Flex which I got to know at the launch event in New York City in 2008. The Flex has everything you’d expect from a premium crossover, yet its woody design influence provides a differentiation in the marketplace. The Flex Platinum has Active Park Assist which is the self-parking system that Ford has designed that is able to gauge distances between parking spaces and back the vehicle into the parking spot. The EcoBoost system on the 3.5 L V6 gets 355 HP and gives you 21 MPG on the highway. The Flex Titanium starts at $45,185. For more information visit www.ford.com Toyznation.com. 11

Jeep Grand Cherokee Overland 4x4 V6 If the American premium SUV had a God it will be the Jeep Grand Cherokee. For generations the Grand Cherokee has defined the class with a combination of true off road capability and luxury amenities all done with “American style.” With the recent difficulties of Chrysler, the only bright spot consumers could see was the concept of the current Grand Cherokee at auto shows. Already a fine and successful product, the new model makes sizable improvements beginning with interior materials and fit and finish. You now get more refinement including a heated woodgrain steering wheel, premium leather heated seats all around, a multi-media center with Hard Drive, panoramic roof, adaptive cruise control, and new powertrains including an all-new Pentax 3.6L V6 with 290 hp. A 5.7L V8 Hemi is also available but not necessary to order Limited and Overland packages. The 3.6L Overland starts at $41,000. With the Trail Rated package it tops $43,000. DURANGO CITADEL AWD

I know I speak of 2008 repeatedly, but I do so with a purpose since people forget things too soon. I personally know of dealers that couldn’t move their inventory of the last Durango if they gave it away and in fact, Dodge discontinued the last Durango and even struggled to launch a Hybrid Hemi version that I was intrigued to see with 340HP, yet 20’s fuel efficiency in city driving? I digress. The Durango had few people who mourned its premature death, but now in its rebirth it has found new evangelists as the new platform shared with the Grand Cherokee is a superb feat of engineering. The interior is where the Citadel grabbed me with the fit and finish on par with many of the luxury nameplates I have tested. You can get SiriusXM Backseat TV for the rear seat passengers, which is great for families with young ones who can watch live shows from Disney and Cartoon Network. The Durango is a full-size SUV which seats 7 passengers and has heated front and rear seats, rich interior, Uconnect with Wi-Fi capabilities a 9-speaker 506 Watt sound system, and more all contained in the aggressive, billet-grilled, 20-inch chrome clad wheels of the Citadel model. The Durango is back and literally better than ever, competitive with anything in the market. The 3.6 L V6 AWD Citadel model has a base price of $43,795. You get 22 MPG on the highway in an E-85 flex-fuel machine. For more information, visit www.dodge.com

Land Rover builds the best all-terrain vehicles money can buy and with the addition of a new 5.0 L V8 there are not many changes but the addition of more refinement and more power to the venerable, luxury nameplate with the LR4 now bearing more resemblance to its more renown sibling the Range Rover. I drove the LR4 and enjoyed the 7-passenger giant in the hills of West Virginia as its blend of newfound 375 HP 375 lb-ft of torque gave me a greater air of sophistication and sad to admit, arrogance. I was in a Rover for Christ’s sake! Everything in the interior has been upgraded with the LR4. I love the new dashboard, the navigation, and the seating surfaces which bring to bear all you would expect from the most fabled luxury brand in Britain in terms of all-terrain vehicles. As expected, you get permanent four-wheel drive with the LR4 with 19-inch alloys and the most sophisticated traction control system on the market. The LR4 starts at $47,650. SUBURBAN LTZ The Burban as it is affectionately called is an icon. It is a symbol, a standard of a full-size SUV, of having arrived, of how dignitaries travel with all-black, tinted windows and flashing lights in a convoy. 50 Cent has boasted on numerous occasions of having his made bombproof. The Suburban is here to stay. The question is, how do you perfect a standard? The LTZ I drove, with its beautiful Ice Blue metallic color, tow package, 20-inch wheels, blind zone alert, you name, was a delight during our time together. The Suburban served as a mobile office for me, as I was able to plug my laptop in the rear outlet, recline back, and work with my graphic designer on some new concepts he was working on. The ride quality is as expected, but what was impressive was the 5.3L V8, 310HP, 335lb-ft of torque engine that had active fuel management which deactivates half the cylinders when not in use for an EPA rated 21MPG on the highway. That got my attention. The biggest complaint about full-size suv’s has been the fuel consumption and here I am in an extended full-size getting economy of 21MPG from a V8 that takes bio-fuel (E85). The Suburban LTZ costs $56,170. For more information visit www.chevy.com

Cadillac SRX FWD The new Cadillac SRX has been a huge boon for Cadillac. The redesigned model which eschewed the 7-passenger arrangement for a 5-passenger solution has really carried the design language at Cadillac forward and managed to display a level of excellence that puts the model among the best in its segment. With the 2012 model Cadillac goes one further with a new 3.6L direct-injection V6 engine that makes 308 HP while being E-85 capable and offered as the only engine option with new technology like Brake Assist to prevent accidents. You get the same Hydra-Matic 6-speed automatic transmission and options like 20-inch wheels, a dual rear DVD player, and a 40GB hard drive, the largest in the segment - actually the largest on the market, along with an 8-inch pop-up monitor that plays DVD’s and is a display for the rear backup camera. FORD F350 “Go around Washington, D.C. and you can see the signs of renewal. It seems everywhere you turn there is construction going on, a new building, housing, repairs, you name it. As construction picks up, so does the need for heavy duty trucks and nobody does heavy duty better than Ford, as evidenced by their long run at number one in sales with the F-150. Building towering condominiums or office buildings, however, is more work than the F-150 can handle, so I enjoyed getting into the F-350 and visiting sites around the city to see how this 6.7L 400 HP V8 diesel, toting 175,000-lb hauling, six-speed shifting, power stroking, 800 lb-ft torqing monster would handle the load. Suffice it to say, not only was the F-350 at home, it had brethren and siblings on site. The F-350 is also bio-fuel capable for B-20 diesel. True to the phrase, built for tough, the F-350 Turbo Diesel Crew Lariat starts at $ 44,745. For more information visit www.ford.com/trucks

A mobile app now exists as well, where you can conduct searches on your phone and through your account and have your locations downloaded to the navigation making the whole service more portable and integrated with business travelers or simply people on a family visit during the holidays without having to wait in line for an available computer. Mechanical-wise you get the usual 3.5L V6 making 275 HP with a 6-speed automatic transmission and the sweet joystick command to navigate the multimedia center. TOYOTA TUNDRA 4X4 AWhen I head to the mountains of West Virginia, pickup trucks are

a dime a dozen. You see them vintage; you see them new; you see foreign; you see blue; everywhere you look there is a pickup truck for you. I must stop with this ditty or the next thing you know I will be making a failed attempt at writing a country song. Nonetheless, pickups are the favorite means of transportation in the hills and the Toyota Tundra more than held its own. The Tundra has a tow capacity of 7900 lbs. making that enough to haul boats, ATV’s, motorcycles, and even horses with ease. The Equus has long been a luxury car of choice among the elite in South Korea and normally retails for much higher if converted at current currency rates to dollars. A true luxury sedan, in fact almost limousine line, the Equus has features like rear reclining seats with a massage system, rear seat entertainment, multiple climate zones, and virtually every amenity you would expect from an ultra-luxury sedan yet priced at a start point of $58,000. I was in the new sprawling retail district in Silver Spring, Maryland and a limousine company owner couldn’t get enough of the base model Equus I was driving. Lincoln has discontinued the rear drive Town Car and Cadillac doesn’t have a large rear drive car in the segment or planned for the market any time soon. The owner was intrigued by the options and loved the interior. He even opened the hood and simply couldn’t get enough of the car. I think that can actually bode well for Hyundai. If executives get a chance to experience the Equus in the car service business, it will familiarize them to the brand and present an intriguing option for future sales. I happen to love the Equus personally, which has a new V8 and a new 8-speed transmission for the 2012 year. This should do wonders for the already smoothshifting and robust 385 HP 4.6L V8, though for 2012 the engine upgrades to a 5.0 L V8. Based on estimates, Hyundai had sold more than the initial couple thousand target. For more information visit www.hyundaiusa.com

« AUDI A7 3.0 TFSI QUATTRO

Audi has been rapidly gaining a market share in America and as new models debut to even better than expected success, more models are launched. The A7 is a truly remarkable vehicle which impressed me with the available Google maps and incar 3G Wi-Fi hotspot provided by T-Mobile. The Audi connect system is integrated into the smoothest navigation system on the market that neatly pops out the dash and works with Audi’s MM TouchPad interface or multi-media knob or disappears back into the dashboard when the power is cut off. The A7 is a 5-door, a fastback that slots between the A6 and A7 and rides with the smooth 8-speed Tiptronic transmission mated to Audi’s famed quattro all-wheel drive system. Audi has a pronounced design language and the front end of the A7 just screams at you with those LED’s set into the large grille. You can’t help but to envy the driver of one and then strategize on how you would begin to muster the $59,250 base price. The model I drove was priced at $68,630 and included the Prestige package and S Line trim with an addition of 20-inch wheels. I have been at countless manufacturer product launches and Audi interiors have been a benchmark. The A7 doesn’t disappoint as the interior is reminiscent of the multiple award winning A8 I drove last year. The A7 is powered by a direct injected 3.0 L Turbocharged V6 and yields 310 HP while getting 28 MPG on the highway. The drive and handling was as expected, but what really caught my attention was the technology as I had my Samsung Wi-Fi tablet using the Wi-Fi hotspot in the vehicle and it was able to download my emails in real time. When I finally got to my location, I could look at what was sent, send a quick email and be more efficient with my time moving forward. The Google Earth navigation system with 3D maps is also a thing to behold as I saw three-dimensional maps of D.C. landmarks as I cruised through my beloved city. « JAGUAR XJL

The 2011 edition is the latest development in the XJ I have personally witnessed, as I have driven all of the changes since the 2004 XJ supercharged model I drove, but none of the past editions I’ve driven prepared me for the 2011 XJL. Tata has totally transformed Jaguar/Land Rover and the capital investments they have made have allowed Ian Callum and his team to fulfill their design vision first exhibited in the awe-striking XF. I interviewed Ian and also his prior boss at Ford, J Mays years ago while the XJ was in development, but I hadn’t anticipated the design language interpreted this graciously yet bearing an aggressive posture befitting of the animal the luxury nameplate is named after. Looking at the XF, you can see how the long wheelbase of the XJ allowed the lines to reach maturity, the aluminum space frame to take its proper form, and the stature of the XJ to show the true inspiration the engineers wanted to display as a source of pride in British engineering. The interior, with its optional Bowers & Wilkins 1200W sound system belies a treat of craftsmanship and a blend of technology as the entire odometer is digital with virtual dials and the like. The cabin is warm and inviting with rich leather along with a panoramic roof that allows the heavens to flow into the cabin as you move with vigor powered by the 5.0L V8 mated to a six-speed automatic and yielding 385 HP. The XJL starts at $79,700. For more information, visit www.jaguarusa.com 14• Toyznation.com

AUTOMOTIVE » TEST DRIVES «CTS WAGON The Cadillac CTS has been a tremendous boon for GM. A total evolution of the first model, the current CTS has spawned a coupe, a supercharged world record-beating performance model, and a sport wagon. I was excited to get behind the wheel of the Sport Wagon, for which we have Bob Lutz to thank, as he pushed not only for the wagon to be approved but also a V performance model. I drove the Premium Collection Wagon with the optional 3.6L V6, 318HP engine and was thrilled to sit behind the wheel of a sleek-looking, fast-moving and high-performing wagon due to the Summer Performance Package along with the Touring Package which added RECARO seats, suede steering wheel, paddle shifters, and a limited slip differential. If you had to haul the family this would be the way to go with the available all-wheel-drive in the mid-Atlantic and the cargo room. The CTS Sport Wagon Premium starts at $49,750. « VOLVO S60 T6 AWD SR

Volvo has changed. I remember my dad having a 240DL in the 70’s and I remember my mom owning an S960 in the 90’s. Both had a rather boxy design yet were known to be leaders in safety. With the S60, Volvo has managed to maintain their stellar leadership in safety and marry it with a performance-inspired philosophy that takes the design language beyond imagination. The S60 has a Pedestrian Detection technology with full braking that stops the vehicle entirely if pedestrians cross your vehicle while driving at city limit speed. The demonstration I got was exciting and showed how much technology had advanced. Cars now have the ability to detect individuals and bring the vehicle to a complete halt to prevent the bumping of pedestrians; that is truly amazing. The safety features, however, are only one part of the S60. The design evokes passion with flowing lines and curves mated to a performance inspired powertrain that yields 300HP from a 3.0L V6 with a six-speed automatic and an all-wheel drive system. The S60 is also mighty fast with an available R-Design that gets 0-60 in 5.5 seconds. The turbocharged S60 with all-wheel drive starts at $37,700. With options like the technology package with adaptive cruise control and heated seats and the multi-media package featuring a 650W 12-speaker audio system and real time traffic navigation, the model I drove topped $46,200. I’m pretty sure you have seen the commercial with the two neighbors where a snowball rolls and knocks the other neighbor’s car out of the parking spot. Anyway, I found it amusing as the car in the commercial is the quintessential 3 series fighter, the Infiniti G. Ready for action, my mission was to slog the 6-speed manual transmission around the D.C. metropolitan area or the DMV, as it’s affectionately called, and as usual the G37 did not disappoint. The manual is a slick-shifting 3.7 L V6 with 330HP that moves briskly and friskily through traffic as you have to be deliberate in your motion in the dense traffic environment around D.C. The 19-inch alloys handled great as I enjoyed many a day traveling around town. The G37 has a load of technology also, like the Zagat Survey restaurant guide in the 9.3 GB hard drive navigation system that is able to get you cool information like places to eat and check out like Georgetown Cupcake when you have a sweet tooth. Beyond recommended dining, you also get a rear view monitor, XM NavTraffic and XM NavWeather, Bose 11-speaker premium audio system, and DVD playback along with a slew of other goodies in a package that costs $42,400. I enjoyed the G37 and anticipate its next iteration with the partnership with Daimler. Can you imagine Mercedes and Infiniti partnering on the next G? I can’t wait! I have to admit, I have been following the Volt for years. I remember seeing the concept back when General Electric and General Motors were partnering on the design. I had since met several design students who were working on the project and even made the trip to Detroit to the Warren Design Studio to see the clay model of the Volt. My week with the Volt was a long time coming. The Volt, to me, represents a leap forward, in the sense that it is a blend of electric and gasoline and works with consumers to save energy costs, provide technology advancements, and also leave a smaller ecological footprint. I have to admit, with a young, aspiring engineer in my household, this paradigm bears serious evaluation, as two billion people will be driving by 2020 and fossil fuel sources are limited. No one wants to return to the oil embargo days of the 70’s and more recent the $147 a barrel days of 2008. I drove the Volt from New York City to West Virginia to Washington, D.C. and I must say I was blown away. The ride is smooth and the technology is impressive. I only spent $40 in gas for the week and with a regular power outlet it took about 8 hours to charge the vehicle. Plain and simple, it was an amazing experience that met all of my expectations. I’m yearning to see how Ed (Welburn) and the team finish the Cadillac version he showed me in concept form when we conducted our interview and tour with him. The innovation in the Volt has me excited for the future of my child who is enamored with sustainable technologies and has even begun to design sustainable mobile devices like a tablet that runs on solar power. There is no limit to what can happen intellectually when we challenge ourselves and the Volt is a vehicle I root for along with the other EV’s I have covered in these pages. As energy costs rise in the future, economies that are the most efficient will thrive the most. The Volt starts at $39,145 and also qualifies for a $7,500 tax credit in addition to whatever credits each individual state offers. For more information on the Volt visit www.chevy.com

SONOTA 2.0T As I work on this product guide I’m also finishing my book, Own Your Destiny and I can’t speak enough about how the South Koreans have contributed to American economy with their innovation. Hyundai turned the auto industry upside down during the great recession with things like the Assurance plan and forgoing a V6 on the full-size Sonata. Packing a twin scroll turbo with a 2.0L I-4 engine to get 272 HP is unheard of, yet that is precisely what Hyundai did and had others follow their lead as Chevy also is eschewing the V6 in their new Malibu. I spent a week with the Sonata Turbo and I had a blast with the blend of performance, power, and fuelefficiency. You get an EPA estimated 33MPG on the highway, but I found my rating to be in the mid-thirties. You get a 6-speed automatic with the Sonata Turbo along with paddle shifters and it makes for a load of fun going up hills on the highway or zipping through traffic where you get 22 MPG. I can’t wait to see what Hyundai has in store for the mid-cycle refresh. The Sonata Turbo costs $27,045. For more information, visit www.hyundaiusa.com

Though it shares many components with its corporate cousin the Sonata, the Optima diverges and creates its own identity with its own unique styling and interior along with driving dynamics to yield a sharp contrast. The Kia Optima became legendary in popular culture by Blake Griffin leaping over one to win the NBA Dunk Competition. The Optima SX Turbo has smooth lines, a refined interior, a panoramic roof, and a slew of premium features from a backup camera to Bluetooth audio, iPod integration, heated and cooled seats, HID headlights, dual exhausts, spoiler, paddle shifter, and a six-speed automatic. The only thing I would add is daytime LED’s like the Sportage has; otherwise, the Optima SX Turbo looks and handles like a car that costs $15,000 more. Not as popular as its corporate cousin, but gaining in sales and rapidly gaining shares on its competitors, the Optima SX Turbo is the standard bearer in the entry premium segment. It shares the same 2.0L Turbo 4 and gets the same 274 HP while getting a slightly more efficient 34 MPG on the highway. The Turbo 4 is mated to a six-speed auto transmission with paddle shifters and sequential shift options. The Optima SX Turbo retails for $25,995. For more information visit www.kia.comsegment. NISSAN ALTIMA 3.5 SR

If I were to ask what car has now taken on the role of second top-selling sedan in the US, what would you say? Well, I’m willing to make a friendly wager (not a $10,000 one) that you would not say the Nissan Altima, yet it has consistently sold over 20,000 cars per month and is second to only the Toyota Camry in sales. What is even more impressive is that the Altima has been carrying virtually the same design for the past 7 years, save for some minor mid-cycle upgrades. A new Altima is forthcoming, but my time behind the loaded 3.5 L V6 model that makes 270HP mated to the Nissan signature CVT transmission reminded me how well the team at Nissan built the marvel. Beyond the swift V6 and the still well-appointed interior, you get Bluetooth, iPod connectivity, dual climate zone control, and projector beam headlights, all in a sleek package that still lends to the original design that shook the segment in the 90’s. Having met the product planner who also works on the Maxima, I have high hopes for the forthcoming new model. The Altima 3.5 SR starts at $27,770. For more information, visit www.nissanusa.com

All-new, redesigned, and ready for the competition, the third generation Infiniti M sedan has been so good, it really fills the void left from the previous range topper, the Q45. Powered by an all-new 5.6L V8 that makes 420 HP and 417 lb-ft of torque, the new M sedan is an exhilarating sports sedan that moves briskly, handles firmly, and possesses a slew of technology that begins with a 7-speed sequential automatic transmission. Our VP of Operations owned a Q45 and a close friend of his owned the original M45 and he spoke highly of this beast of a machine that gets from 0-60 in a blistering sub 5 seconds. As usual you can expect the bundle of Infiniti goodies like a 9.3 GB hard drive, streaming audio, an 8-inch navigation display, Blind Spot Warning, a lane departure system, intelligent cruise control, and Zagat Survey. You know the long list of the works, but the reason you get behind the M56 is to experience the technology and performance might of Infiniti wrapped in their most luxurious package to date at a cost of $57,550. It was once said that consumers would not buy smaller cars that were fuel-efficient in the US in large numbers, that people love their gas guzzlers so much that small cars were a failing strategy. The past few years have proven that assumption wrong as a wide range of vehicles have been developed with great fuel economy and a load of features, yet enough room to satisfy US consumer tastes. One such vehicle is the 2011 Jetta. Powered by a 2.5 L inline-five, the Jetta SEL makes 170HP and comes along with options like a touchscreen radio with navigation, iPod connectivity, keyless entry, push button start, satellite radio, 17-inch alloys, six-speed transmission, leatherette seating surfaces, and Bluetooth connectivity, all with a 3-year carefree maintenance program. For this and more options you get the Jetta SEL at $23,395 which makes for great monthly payments and provides the typical American family with a great option to explore that gets 31MPG on the highway and in the plus-40MPG range when you venture to the TDI model. « SONIC 5DR 1LS I remember talking to one of my business associates in 2008 about what I saw happening in Detroit and the advancements on the way by the Detroit Big Three. His sentiment was they should fail. I can’t blame the sentiment. For years, products were poor compared to the foreign transplants, but things were changing; they just needed more time to right the ship. I say this because the Sonic was in development then and when you compare it to the vehicle it replaces in the lineup, the Aveo, it is night and day. I drove a 5-speed manual for a week and enjoyed the 1.8L ECOTEC that makes 138HP and 125 lb-ft of torque. The interior is nice, clean and functional with satellite radio and OnStar Directions & Connections plan available. The Sonic handled solidly and was well-built. The premium sound system comes with six speakers and in the 5-door hatch that was enough to have me jamming. The subcompact market is now highly competitive and with cars like the Sonic I’m glad GM got a stay. The Sonic starts at $14,635. For more information visit www.chevy.com

« FORD FIESTA 5DR HATCH SEL The small car market, as I have mentioned, is now highly competitive, packing a gaggle of technology, premium seating surfaces, and an ultra fuel-efficient package, all in a compact that looks cool and stylish. Yeah, try to fit all that into a car and make sure the price is less than $20,000. I feel like I’m in the Golden Corral commercial, yet that is precisely what Ford has done with its new Fiesta. You get SYNC, cruise control, leather-wrapped steering wheel, heated leather seats, and 16-inch aluminum wheels, all in a car that gets 37 MPG on the highway. The Fiesta is loaded with more than enough cargo room and with technology for any family. The base price on the 5-door Fiesta I drove is $17,120, but loaded as I described, the Fiesta came up to $19,485 - just under $20,000. For more information, visit www.ford.com

« MAZDA 5 As I sit in the 2012 Mazda5 I reminisce to my college years hearing Raekwon of the Wu-tang Clan saying “rolling in MPV’s...” Mazda had hit a chord in the marketplace with their grand tourer which offered 3 rows of seating and tons of cargo hauling options, all in a stylish package. The Mazda5 keeps the heritage and continues the tradition of a not quite minivan but just as functional van which packs technology, drives and handles great and looks cool while doing it. My former business partner owned an MPV so we have always had an affinity for the sports hauler as we call it and for the Mazda5 with its 2.5 L, I-4 engine that makes 157 HP mated to a 5-speed automatic that gets 28 MPG on the highway. The Mazda5 starts at $19,345. The grand tourer I drove retails for $23,875. For more information, visit www.mazdausa.com

«Dodge Charger SXT Plus AWD

We have had a long history with appreciating the work of the design team at Chrysler LLC. We featured head designer, Ralph Gilles in our magazine in 2005 and will feature him in our forthcoming book, Own Your Destiny (shameless plug, I know), where we quote some of the intriguing things we learned from him that carry on to now and have yielded a phenomenal product no one could have imagined in 2008 when the whole industry was going through crisis. The rear wheel LX platform has been a jewel and the team from FIAT has been more than elated to find ways to maximize its potential, evident by plans for a new Maserati built on the platform in the near future. The 2012 Dodge Charger with the all-new 8-speed ZF transmission on an American developed rear drive platform paired with all-wheel drive is a gift. This gift came to me in a tungsten metallic exterior with red NAPPA leather interior that just belies the Italian expertise brought on board by Fiat to create an affordable luxury blend that makes the technology found in high-end luxury brands accessible to middle-class Americans. I have driven versions of this same ZFsourced 8-speed on cars twice the price and didn’t come away as thrilled as when I floored the 3.6 L Pentastar on I-70 and let the electro-hydraulic power steering along with the all-wheel drive navigate me up hills and through the mountains as I journeyed to Washington, D.C. The seats feel rich. The interior looks gorgeous. I have already spoken about the 8.4-inch screen multi-media center, heated steering wheel, heated seats, all for $35,820? The Charger sells itself and with 31MPG in the RWD model and 27MPG highway in the AWD model, the 2012 Dodge Charger should be on every shopper’s list. For more information, visit www.dodge.com

« 300C AWD

Olivier François gets it, I mean, he really gets it and as Chrysler has overtaken Toyota in US sales, the proof is in the pudding. $10,000 to $1, no one would have bet in 2008 that Chrysler LLC would outsell Toyota in US sales in 2011, but that is where the numbers lie and the reasons are product, business development, and marketing. As US demographics have shifted, Chrysler has found the perfect way to market to the highly diverse under-45 demographic. They started last year with their Eminem spot in the Super Bowl which powered Chrysler to immense success with the launch of their great vehicles. Who would have thought of having the greatest music producer of a generation, Dr. Dre, provide the custom sound system of the Chrysler 300? Better yet, who would have used a Jay-Z instrumental as the under-bed music for the commercial of the new 300C? The fact is François’ foresight has worked and it just leads people to check out the product which is where the work of Ralph and team shines. The 300C with its 5.7 L Hemi with cylinder deactivation technology, rich, sumptuous leather, nice wood inlays, the Uconnect 8.4-inch screen multi-media center with DVD playback capability, multiple climate zones, power rear shade, daytime LED’s, keyless entry, and bi-function halogens. I could just go down the options list and rave, but the fact remains that the Chrysler 300C AWD is a finecrafted, luxury sedan that now gets the ZF 8-speed automatic and Beats Audio system at a delivered price just north of $41,000. Not to mention, in the 3.6 V6 RWD you get 31 MPG on the highway, amazing for a large rear wheel drive luxury sedan. The Hemi I drove with AWD got 23 MPG on the highway which is competitive with many luxury nameplates’ V8’s. For more information, visit www.chrysler.com

« DODGE CHARGER RALLYE

The Charger name is iconic and we can now get past the debate over if it should have been used for a 4-dour as opposed to the coupe that made the name famous. In an effort to re-invigorate the brand post-bankruptcy and after the utter collapse of our economy and manufacturing base, Ralph and the team at Dodge have done a remarkable job with the second iteration of the Charger sedan. Taking design cues from the 1970 model like the taillights and the creases on the side panels, the 2011 Charger is a phenomenal sedan. I drove the special Toxic Orange SE RWD in the D.C. area for a week and got tons of raves. The 8.4 Uconnect Touch navigation system with the whole multi-media interface for Bluetooth audio allows you to even configure a Wi-Fi hotspot in the vehicle. With DVD playback and more you have a class-leading option with no match in the marketplace. The Rallye option adds a 20-inch wheel package, rear spoiler, and performance suspension to the sporty performance of the new 3.6 L V6 Pentastar engine that develops 293 HP. The 2011 is a five-speed automatic and gets 27MPG on the highway. I also had the pleasure of driving the 2012 with the new 8-speed automatic and my review of that model follows this one. The SE starts at $25,170 and with the Rallye package it totaled $33,660. For more information visit www.dodge.com

Skylander Spyros Adventure

Skylanders is a perfect game to play with the whole family. It doubles as a collectible game with figurines, trading cards, and a portal of power where the current figurine on the base becomes your character in the game. This game found favor with my son who was a huge fan of Yu-Gi-Oh. His comments were, “instead of just playing around with the controller, you have these characters with you and there is a variety of them so it brings a collector’s feel...” The game comes with three characters and you can collect up to thirty-two. It’s available for most platforms and you can get more information at www.skylanders.com.

NCAA 12

Our Love for Madden has been quite obvious. We make a regular pilgrimage to the Tiburon studios in Orlando, Florida; we interview the staff; we conduct national tournaments; we are simply stock raving mad about Madden. As sales will attest, we are not alone. Madden is not just a game, it is a culture. It is an experience that was threatened for a while with the NFL lockout during the summer, but is now sweeter than ever as edition 12 brings the best of past editions and adds more to the best simulator sports game ever. Game form continues, though in the format of game plan and the option to “now change” plays on offense to a pass or a run of the whole playbook. On defense, you can opt for an aggressive scheme or a conservative call instead of the coach’s plan for the team. Building a team is even more realistic, as you have a more authentic cut roster. The online store is even more robust, as is online gameplay. Go to http://www.ea.com/ madden-nfl for more information.

By partnering with ESPN, NCAA Football 12 really brings the ESPN game day broadcast experience to life and makes for a truly realistic experience. Beyond getting ESPN news updates, you can play with your favorite college and the mascot games continue. You will love building your dynasty program from the bottom with prized recruits. Online gameplay is also exciting as old rivalry takes place. Go to www.ea.com/ncaa-football for more details.

Boston Acoustics 5.1 SoundWare XS Special Edition Home Theater Speakers

One cannot deny the expertise of Boston Acoustics in sound fidelity. Boston Acoustics has had a stellar track record since 1979 in home and car audio. I had a chance to spend some time with their new 5.1 surround sound home theater speakers and I was amazed. The SoundWare XS speakers are compact yet they pack an amazing punch with wide range in sound with the included subwoofer and five compact speakers. I was able to utilize them with my Samsung LED and watch Transformers Dark of The Moon, giving me a surreal experience. What I like is that the speakers are compact so you can mount them on the wall and have them be inconspicuous. The sound range is also good, especially for gaming; I played MW3, Batman Arkham City, and Forza Motorsports 4 for hours and the sound is just “crazy”. The set costs $599 and the difference in sound with these speakers is more than worth the price. You can also get the optional additional speakers to get 7.1 sound which brings out even more sound channels. I will be testing some more Boston Acoustic products, so stay tuned. In the meantime, go to www.bostonacoustics.com and order your set today

Samsung Galaxy S II T-Mobile

The Samsung Galaxy S II has been an unquestionable success globally and in America. Samsung made slight variations per carrier to make the user experience distinct per carrier and also maximize the unique features of the phone. On T-Mobile, the Galaxy S II still has the Qualcomm Snapdragon S3 processor that has a dual core 1.5 GHz processor and runs on Gingerbread Android 2.3.5 with future plans to upgrade to Ice Cream Sandwich Android version 4.0. I was able experience the T-Mobile Prime TV service and watch videos on the 4.5-inch super AMOLED screen. You can also watch live TV and shows on-demand. You can watch music videos or news programs like Fox News or MSNBC and even catch up on episodes of the Bad Girls Club. Samsung also has its own Media Hub which has movies and TV shows for purchase. You can also read a great variety of magazines on Zinio. I loved checking out Car and Driver. The Galaxy S II runs on T-Mobile HSPA 4G network and also Wi-Fi where you can make VOIP calls for free. The Galaxy S II costs $229 and can be bought directly on www.t-mobile.com

PHILIP FIDELIO DOCKING SPEAKER

I remember LL Cool J saying he never goes anywhere without his radio. Likewise, we all can say we never go anywhere without our phones. If you have an Android phone, Philips has a great solution to play music from your phone and your computer and also charge your phone. The Fidelio app, which is a free download on Android, features a Songbird download that allows you to sync music from your PC and your Phone to be played on your Bluetooth docking boom box. You can also play internet radio like Pandora, which is a great addition for me to go along with the thousands of songs I have stored in my phone. I am always amazed at how our use of phones has evolved and how hardware manufacturers have made new accessories to enhance the experience. The Philips docking speaker is a must-have for everyone with an Android phone. The sound quality is excellent; the remote control is easy to use; the design looks cool; and it is fun to use. Samsung and Google have had a tremendous relationship and the success of Samsung’s multiple phone lines is a testament to that fact. Google, via its partnerships, has been able to introduce new technology to grow the Android operating brand. The Samsung Nexus S is the first phone to debut Google Wallet payment solutions technology. It has an NFC chip which enables the phone to communicate with other devices such as payment terminals and what happens as a result is a mobile device that is able to improve productivity, among other things, via this functionality. The Nexus S runs on Gingerbread Version 2.3.6. There are differences in the Sprint, T-Mobile, and AT&T models. I reviewed the T-Mobile model and enjoyed several functions like the Wi-Fi-hotspot, the great webcam for shooting video, the voice command feature, navigation, and more. The Nexus S runs on a 1GHZ Hummingbird processor and has a 5MP rear camera that shoots good pictures. The Nexus S 4G on Sprint is probably the best option, however, as it is currently the only phone that is Google Wallet capable, which provides the functionality at over 100,000 terminals with participating retailers nationwide. I had a chance to test out the iWOW 3D and was impressed indeed. GALAXY TAB 10.1 With several options to choose from on the market the dilemma beI also reviewed the Galaxy 10.1, and while it has the same operating software and processing hardware, the functionality is somewhat different. The main difference is the size, which had me using the 10.1 in different ways, mainly as an alternative to my laptop. With a 10.1-inch display, one can surf the web, type documents (a keyboard doc is also available and can be ordered separately), and perform document editing functions on the Tab 10.1. Not only did I work on documents, I also was able to enjoy a great gaming experience, playing Samurai II: Vengeance in the NVIDIA Tegra Zone. The form factor of the Tab 10.1 is great as a mini computing device with apps, a great screen display, and responsive touch interface. The Tab 10.1 is one of the slimmest tablets on the market. In fact, at its launch it bore the distinction of being the slimmest. Another great feature is Samsung’s media hub where you can download or stream current DVD-released movies to watch in HD on the Tab 10.1. The Tab 10.1 also features an Android movie studio to edit the videos you shoot with the Tab 10.1. The Tab 10.1 I reviewed was a Wi-Fi-only model, though there is a 4G model on the T-Mobile HSPA+ network. The Tab 10.1 starts at $499 and can be found at www.samsung.com.

As desktops became more a gateway to consume entertainment the standard VGA The 8.9, in my opinion, is the best size and form factor on the market for a mobile tablet. It is, as Goldilocks would say, just right. The dual-core Tegra 2 processor is a blast along with the TouchWiz interface and the Android Honeycomb operating system. The 8.9 comes with Wi-Fi only and has both a 2.0 MP front facing and a 3.0 MP rear facing camera. These cameras enable a user to Skype on the device. Another great thing about the 8.9 is that it has full Flash support, though Adobe has signaled that it is discontinuing the software development in the future in support of HTML 5. Gaming with Flash was awesome in addition to the NVIDIA 1.0 GHZ dual-core processor and the Tegra Zone, making for hours of gaming enjoyment. The 8.9 is priced at $469 and available at www.samsung.com .

Samsung Galaxy S II, Epic 4G Touch

When I got a demonstration by Sprint’s Product VP, David Owens, I knew I had to get my hands on the new age device, a Qualcomm Snapdragon S3 1.5 GHz dual core processor. Our VP of Operations has the first Epic 4G so I was excited to give the 4G Touch a twirl. The Epic 4G serves as his de facto MP3 player in his Benz and Camaro so we view that as a testament to the multi-media possibilities the phone packs. The Epic 4G Touch doesn’t disappoint. In fact, it excels in form factor with a sleek, lightweight design, an amazing screen quality, and sharp resolution for viewing videos. Playing with the Epic Touch 4G, our VP was amazed at how light the phone was and how great the quality of the screen was. The Touch 4G also has a better camera than the Epic with a 5MP-8MP increase and we took some pictures from 30 feet away of a Charger I was test driving and the pictures came out with amazing quality. You can touch zoom-in and out plus shoot full HD quality videos. To be frank, the Epic Touch 4G will be my choice for best phone on Sprint’s network currently. Vlingo has a voice command app that is not as advanced as Siri but works great with the Epic Touch 4G with the ability to speak text messages, play music, visit websites, record messages, open apps, and more. Based on the specs of the phone, the screen resolution, the speed of the processor, and form factor, I find no other current product at Sprint better. Also, you now get the NBA App exclusively on Sprint and can watch game clips and games in HD on the Epic Touch 4G. For more information, visit www.sprint.com

TOYZ GUIDE GADGET REVIEWS Atari Arcade for Apple’s iPad

As technology progresses, so does its uses and applications in modern culture. I attended college two decades ago, but my review of the HP HD Webcam bore a touching sentiment from me. My son, who is going to college next year to be an engineer, conducted his college interview for MIT via Skype with the HP HD 5210. Let that thought settle a little, a college interview with the best engineering school in the world with a webcam. During the interview, my son was able to show his mobile device designs to his interviewer, so in terms of the quality of its 720p video calling, I guess that is my best endorsement of the product or our story this April, depending on the outcome of his application for admission. The Atari Arcade for Apple’s iPad is a creative, fun, and indulging way to play Atari’s oldies but goodies. Purchasing this module gives you access to hundreds of Atari games as well as a joystick which attaches directly to your iPad. I enjoyed the simplicity of just attaching the module to my iPad and found it very user-friendly. So you may ask, what’s the downside? Well, after your initial purchase, you must pay 99 cents to purchase bundles of games, but it’s well worth it and you get more bang for your buck, literally. Atari games are timeless and this module definitely makes you feel like you can tap into your childhood anytime you want. A definite must buy!
