Nuremberg

International invitation In just a matter of weeks, the global toy industry will once again be bound for the ‘ToyCity’ of Nuremberg for Spielwarenmesse 2024, which takes place from 30th January to 3rd February at NürnbergMesse GmbH. Toy World takes a look at this year’s international event and ponders what affect recent changes to the trade show calendar and the show’s format may have.

O

ffering five packed days of networking, entertainment, product inspiration, trade deals and much, much more, Spielwarenmesse 2024 is widely considered an unmissable event within the toy industry trade fair calendar. The second iteration of the hugely popular European show since lockdown, and the 73rd since the show began, this year’s show will welcome almost 400 new exhibitors across its 18 halls and a very strong turnout from across the globe. No less than 13 different countries will be represented on international pavilions that will host over 250 businesses from Australia, China, France, Georgia, Hong Kong, India, Japan, Spain, Taiwan, Thailand, UK, Ukraine and the USA. Indeed, the scrapping of the 2024 New York Toy Fair (the result of much to-ing and fro-ing

over dates and locations, hopefully now settled) is predicted to result in many more American visitors to Spielwarenmesse and the unveiling of far more new toy ranges that may ordinarily have been held back for launch in New York. Christian Ulrich, spokesperson for organiser Spielwarenmesse eG, also expects to welcome many more Chinese and Japanese visitors at the upcoming show, after lingering post-Covid travel restrictions impacted attendance last year. A rise in numbers from these countries will be a nice boost for Spielwarenmesse 2024, which is shaping up to be a much busier event than the already excellent 2023 iteration. Spotlighted trends this year include toys for kidults, a major focus for Mattel this year (as you can read in our exclusive article on page 14). In Hall 3A, the Life’s a Playground theme will be brought vividly to

Toy World 5

life through relevant product examples from its four core categories - Collectibles, Premium Collectibles, Creative Fantasy and Tabletop Games – while experts will be on hand to shine a light on new perspectives and ideas that could help retailers who already offer kidult products, or those looking to get into the space, maximise on their selections. Anyone with a little time on their hands is also strongly encouraged to pay a visit to Ultra Comix on Vordere Sterngasse 2, which offers four floors of comic-books, games, fantasy- and science fiction-literature, and kidult toys. Speaking exclusively to Toy World, Christian explains that older children and adults are turning to toys and games for a kind of escapism and a positive outlet for their expressionism. He says: “Often we see that those outlets are social too: games bring people together round a table so we can spend time with

friends and family. More and more adults are playing with toys, and they’re also becoming more confident in showing that they collect some quirky things – a bit like me with my Batmobile model.” A new, revamped Toys Go Green exhibition, meanwhile, titled A Celebration of Sustainable Play and Industry Innovation, will build on the success of the theme to date. Spielwarenmesse 2024 and Sustainable Toys Action Consulting (STAC), which says it is the first and only sustainability consultancy specialising in toys, have joined forces to elevate Toys Go Green at this year’s show, providing attendees with an exhibition exploring the landscape of sustainable play. Visitors will be able to explore a diverse range of toys designed to minimise their environmental footprint through eco-design, recyclability, the use of natural and certified materials and recycled and bio-based polymers. Additionally, the exhibition will showcase toys that educate kids about the environment and instil in them a sense of responsibility for the planet’s future. One of the big changes to the format of Spielwarenmesse 2024 sees the new TuesdaySaturday schedule replace that of Wednesday-Sunday, which Christian says reflects attendee feedback that the extra weekday would be better for both travel and footfall. While Christian also tells us that the move has been ‘very positively received’, it’ll be interesting to see how it alters peoples’ approaches to meetings and end-of-show travel. The final day of any trade show always tends to be a bit quieter, regardless of the overall running time, so Saturday will surely become the new Sunday (especially for international visitors). But will the occasionally awkward timing of international flights have an impact on whether

visitors depart on Thursday or Friday in order to be home in time for the weekend? Anecdotally, we’ve heard from some exhibitors that the last two days are both looking a little slower in terms of meetings. Hopefully, all this means is that these will be the days when remaining attendees take the chance to explore the halls at their leisure, in search of the new and unexpected, once their booked meetings are out of the way. After all, this would be in line with Christian’s own advice on making the most of things: “I would highly recommend visitors leave at least a few hours free to explore the show and really take in everything it has to offer, from the parties and talks to the trend areas and halls in which you might find something new and exciting.” Another change to proceedings is the ToyAwards being presented during Spielwarenmesse 2024, in Hall 3A on 31st January. Having previously taken place before the show opened its doors, this change to the scheduling means far more people can now participate more fully in the event. ToyNight has also moved, now taking place on the evening of the opening day of the show, and RedNight returns for 2024 on Thursday 1st February, having successfully debuted in February 2023. If you haven’t participated in RedNight before, the event lets visitors stroll around the show at their own pace in a relaxed atmosphere, and network with industry peers over food and drink. The following day, Friday 2nd February, visitors can blow the cobwebs away at the International Game Inventors Convention from 9am-6pm, which brings games inventors together with developers from both national and international publishing houses. They can also take part in the GamingHour once the show is over for the day.

There’s certainly no shortage of things to see and do for those who do stay to the end of the show. To tempt those who haven’t yet secured their ticket, two new offers are available for those travelling by air. Visitors coming to Nuremberg for the Spielwarenmesse via Turkish Airlines can receive a 15% discount on their air ticket, for economy and business class. For convenient onward travel from Munich airport, the organiser is also offering a bus shuttle service for the first time from the Tuesday to the Saturday. Bus tickets can be purchased in advance via the Spielwarenmesse Ticketshop. Tickets to Spielwarenmesse itself, meanwhile, include travel on local public transport in the Nuremberg, Fürth and Stein city area, meaning that for the entire duration of the fair, retailers and buyers can travel quickly and easily to and from the exhibition centre. Readers are reminded that day tickets and event tickets for Spielwarenmesse are only available online - no tickets will be sold on site. Tips on staying in the ToyCity of Nuremberg and information on travel and accommodation, meanwhile, can be found both on the website and the official Spielwarenmesse app. Of course, Toy World is also on hand to help with planning any trip to Spielwarenmesse: within the pages of Toy World’s first-ever standalone supplement focused on the show, readers can find a raft of information from leading toys and games companies heading to Nuremberg from 30th January to 3rd February. John Baulch, Mark Austin and Rachael Simpson-Jones will also be there. If you want to book an appointment with one of them, get in touch now as their diaries are filling up fast.

News Eugy furthers message of innovation and environmental consciousness with new models for 2024 This year will see yet more unique new Eugy models launched in the UK including Mandarin Duck, Frilled Lizard, Emu, Racoon and Tuatara. These colourful additions will launch at the first trade shows of the year and are a must-have for collectors joining the most recent introductions: Highland Cow, Armadillo, Sasquatch Bigfoot and Tortoise. The groundbreaking Eugy initiative was founded by Hoon Kim who was presented with the vast problems of the natural world while she was a professional travel writer. Faced with the heartbreaking sight of plastic waste lingering for centuries on Mount Everest, Hoon recognised the urgent need for action. Returning home to New Zealand, Hoon's commitment took a tangible form. A visit to a local recycling centre revealed stacks of cardboard, one of the most recyclable materials. This discovery marked the humble origins of the groundbreaking 3D cardboard animal puzzle, Eugy, a world-first invention protected by multiple patents worldwide. The sustainable, fun, safe and educational brand was crafted with a spoonful of cuteness to spread love for the planet. The current Eugy format, which is proving extremely successful, was first introduced in 2019 and the range now consists of 110 different patented designs, from an armadillo to a zebra. Eugy, which began as a sustainable craft, has become a collectible phenomenon with fans eagerly awaiting the release of new designs. Eugy stands as a testament to the power of innovation and environmental consciousness. The craft has transcended borders and is now available in stores in more than 40 countries. In turn, the environment is being rewarded through Eugy’s charitable contributions to a host of animal and environment protection organisations. Eugy is patent protected, and the company is proactive in taking legal action to protect its rights against manufacturers, importers and retailers who attempt to copy the brand. Eugy is being exhibited at Spielwarenmesse by three of its exclusive distribution partners: Brainstorm (UK & Ireland) hall 12, stand B-03-2; Carletto (DACH) hall 10.0, stand H-10/I-11; and Safari (North America) hall 5, stand A-30, B-31. Distributors interested in becoming a Eugy partner should contact Kim Carter by email: kidsinternationalmarketing@gmail. com or call 07770 661 461.

Zuru unveils permanent exhibition stand at Nuremberg Toy Fair Zuru‘s new permanent exhibition will be found in Hall 12.2 at the International Toy Fair in Nuremberg. In a move that follows the company’s recent unveiling of its flagship campus in El Segundo, LA, the company says such permanency at the trade fair further cements the long-term growth plans of the business. On a total of 750 m², Zuru will showcase its new products in two ultramodern showrooms equipped with numerous screens and a lounge directly adjacent for subsequent meetings. “Our new permanent stand at the trade fair in Nuremberg is built utilising our innovative showroom framework taken from our new Los Angeles campus. This immersive ‘first of its kind’ experience blew everyone away upon opening last September and far exceeded our own expectations. It is a modular system, which has been fully designed in-house, so incorporating it into our new permanent space in Nuremberg was always part of our strategic plan as we roll it out globally. We can’t wait to welcome all our customers, with Nuremberg now firmly positioned as the flagship Zuru exhibition on the 2024 Toy Fair calendar,” commented Will Collinson, general manager, Zuru UK & Ireland. Zuru will be represented at the International Toy Fair in Hall 12.2 with stands P16, P19 and P22. For sales enquiries, please contact sales@zuru.com.

Company Profile

Konami

How Konami is bringing in new players to the Yu-Gi-Oh! TCG Ahead of its return to Spielwarenmesse, Konami Digital Entertainment B.V., the company behind the globally best-selling TCG Yu-Gi-Oh!, tells Toy World how its accessible new starter set is perfect for encouraging those new to duelling to pick up some cards and dive right in.

A

ccording to Konami Digital Entertainment B.V. (Konami), the Yu-Gi-Oh! TCG is a tapestry of memories. One single card can speak to so many things. It could be the ace card of someone’s favourite Yu-Gi-Oh! anime character, a character that shaped that person’s childhood, or perhaps it’s that one priceless card kept prized in a beloved, ever-glittering collection. Maybe it’s even the card that completes the deck that wins the Yu-Gi-Oh! World

Championship, watched by avid players across the globe. There are more than two decades of unforgettable memories locked within the Yu-Gi-Oh! TCG. There are also many more memories yet to be made and a new generation of players to make them. In recent years, Konami has made a concerted effort to make new memories and bring in more and more new players. Konami works very closely with retail partners, big and small, to bring fresh faces in. An important part of each new player’s journey is demoing the Yu-Gi-Oh! TCG to them at partner stores. Konami encourages and assists retailers with finding demonstrators well versed in the game. Ideally, demonstrators should be able to showcase the game with the right materials in a fun, engaging and accessible way. In the UK, the number of in-store Yu-Gi-Oh! TCG tournaments and events is growing rapidly year-on-year, with more and more people attending. That growth is translating to greater attendances at official Yu-GiOh! TCG tournaments. This, of course, parallels with more and more people not just playing the Yu-Gi-Oh! TCG but engaging with the events surrounding it, and with evergrowing sales numbers. Looking ahead, Konami is kicking off 2024 with a brandnew Yu-Gi-Oh! TCG product designed first and foremost with new players in mind one that acts a bit like a demo itself. The 2-Player Starter Set, currently scheduled to launch in Europe on 26th January, is the perfect way for someone completely new to the game to learn the ropes, whether that’s with a friend, their family or all by themselves. With more than 10,000 different cards in circulation and over two decades’ worth of development, the Yu-GiOh! TCG is brimming with depth. The 2-Player

Toy World 12

Starter Set is built with that depth in mind. It uses a careful mixture of handholding and encouragement to ease new players in. A Konami spokesperson told us: “Imagine a new player like someone who doesn’t know how to swim and the Yu-Gi-Oh! TCG like an Olympic-sized swimming pool. The 2-Player Starter Set is a bit like the shallow end, gradually getting deeper as that new swimmer becomes familiar with the pool. But it’s more than just that. It’s the arm bands and kick boards to help them stay afloat. It’s the swimming instructor to teach them everything they need to know at a comfortable, accessible pace. And, ultimately, it’s the platform to show them just how incredibly fun swimming can be – or to move away from the swimming analogy, duelling.” The 2-Player Starter Set comes with two complete decks, each one including 40 main deck cards and four extra deck cards. That’s a total of 88 cards, with eight of them being Ultra Rares, making it inherently ready for two players to get straight into duelling with this set alone. The set’s unique selling point (or ace card, as it were) is its 64-page comic book. This book is a step-by-step, complete demonstration of a duel. From setting up the decks to understanding what all the information on each card means, and from summoning a Monster card to activating a Trap card, the comic takes players through each element of play, bit by bit, literally guiding them through their very first duel. The comic book includes instructions using language that players of all ages and backgrounds can understand and enjoy. The instructions start off quite simple, before slowly putting the pieces together into the more advanced techniques. These are the very same techniques that form the backbone of the Yu-Gi-Oh! TCG, including duels played at the highest competitive level. Once both players have gone through this illustrated duel from start to finish, they’ll have mastered the basics of the Yu-Gi-Oh! TCG and will be ready to reassemble the decks and start their own duels without any guidance. These duels could be played alone, purely to see how all the different cards are played, or against a more experienced opponent to put the skills learned to the test. In time, players could even go from mentee to mentor and help bring another new player to the duel. More than that, players can launch their own journey into the Yu-Gi-Oh! TCG universe and begin making their own unforgettable memories. The 2-Player Starter Set can be that first weave on a brand-new tapestry - and there are surely countless more tapestries just waiting to unfold.

Mattel

Mattel targets Kidult market at Spielwarenmesse 2024 Firm in its belief that play is for everyone and no one is too old to play, Mattel heads to Spielwarenmesse 2024 to shine a spotlight on its raft of Kidult toy ranges as the fair itself does the same thing via its Life’s a Playground theme. Here, the company tells Toy World readers why this sector is so important and how its latest launches will keep fans of all ages engaged.

T

he adult fan base (AKA: Kidults) is nothing if not diverse, encompassing dedicated car enthusiasts, franchise lovers and gamers as well as everyday players influenced by trends or viral topics. However, Kidults are not just hardcore collectors: they’re also casual fans who may just want to remember their childhood, whether that’s through Barbie homeware, a Polly Pocket version of Friends’ most popular locations, or Little People versions of other favourite TV characters such as Ted Lasso. The adult fan market is also growing globally and expanding rapidly in the US. Kidult toy sales increased by $3.9b in 2022 compared to 2020, with 80% of that growth taking place in 2021 and continuing to progress through 2022. Europe has also seen major Kidult growth, with toy sales for adult fans increasing by 1b. Around 58% of Mattel’s adult fans are parents, meaning the company’s brands resonate not only with individual preferences but also within family contexts. For example, mums might buy themselves a Barbie signature doll for display while also purchasing a fashionista doll for their kids to play

with. Nostalgia plays a pivotal role, motivating 37% of adult fans' purchasing decisions. Mattel brands tap into this, from its very own core brands to licensed partners such as Super Mario, Ninja Turtles, Star Wars and WWE. As a leader in the toy space, Mattel offers a wide variety of toy ranges that appeal to consumers of all interests and ages as well as varying budgets. Its brands also offer longevity. Hot Wheels, Thomas & Friends and Barbie are cornerstones of grandparents’ and parents’ childhoods and are products they will continue to interact with throughout their lives. The success of the Barbie movie illustrates how brands can evolve. What started as a children’s brand is now a keystone of the cultural zeitgeist. Mattel has harnessed these moments to further connect with fans of all ages, creating a broad range of products spanning everyday dolls to high-end collectibles. The

Toy World 14

company also collaborates with best-in-class partners such as Universal, Warner Bros., Disney, WWE and others around the world to achieve an unmatched portfolio guaranteed to delight adult fans. Under the Mattel Creations platform, the company also produces high-end collectibles that offer room for self-expression. Mattel Creations sets out to create a new category connecting adults to toys and toys to art, offering an unrivalled experience in terms of what’s possible when adults and play collide. Read on to find out what Mattel will be showcasing at Spielwarenmesse 2024 in Hall 12.2, Stand P-15. The Hot Wheels Premium 1:43 Scale Vehicle range offers officially licensed replicas for adult collectors complete with Real Riders tyres and Metal/Metal bodies and chassis. The Real Riders tyres, Metal/Metal body and chassis appeal to adult collectors who desire elite execution. The Hot Wheels Pop Culture assortment comprises die-cast Hot Wheels toy cars, trucks or vans on a 1:64 scale, all based on popular movies, TV shows or video games. Fans can celebrate the hottest pop culture properties with these high-quality Hot Wheels vehicles. Each 1:64 replica has authentic details true to the source material and features a Metal/Metal body and chassis as well as Real Riders tyres. The themed packaging boasts display-worthy art for enhanced collectability and various assortments are released throughout the year to ensure fans always have access to fresh selections featuring the coolest, hottest names in popular culture. The collectible Barbie Movie Skating Doll and Ken are sure to turn heads in an inline skating outfit pulled straight from the Barbie movie. Barbie wears a colourful leotard with a hot pink visor, matching biker shorts, and neon Impala inline skates. Created in the likeness of Margot Robbie, who played Barbie in the feature film, this doll makes a great gift for fans and collectors alike. Ken, meanwhile, wears a hot pink tee and colourful matching shorts complete with a visor, knee pads and neon Impala inline skates.

Polly Pocket brings the beloved TV series Friends to life in an exclusive collector compact, part of the brand-new Polly Pocket Partnership collector series. The iconic coffee cup exterior opens to reveal three nostalgic locations from the show. Fans can have a laugh around the couches at Central Perk with all six characters reimagined as micro dolls. Nine accessories and fun features offer Easter Eggs and play & display moments that capture popular scenes: they can take care of Chandler's pet chicken in the apartment or act out the iconic Thanksgiving scene, in which Joey gets a turkey stuck on hishead. This collectible compact is ideal for Friends and Polly Pocket fans alike. They can also act out a performance on the Central Perk stage with Phoebe, kick back in the recliners at Joey and Chandler's, or make dinner in Monica's apartment. For additional fun, the accessories peg into different areas of

the compact such as the Central Perk stage and apartments. Perfect for collectors, this set comes in premium displayable packaging with high quality materials and intricate details that celebrate the Friends fandom. Although the Masters of the Universe Origins Action Figure Assortment is inspired by the original cartoons from the '80s, the figures have distinctly modern features. At a 5.5” scale and with 16 moveable joints, these nostalgiainducing MOTU action figures can match poses from the 1980s episodes or be used to create all new moves and scenes. The figures have straighter legs, rounded shoulder muscles and an overall more realistic build than their cartoon design. Each figure comes with an all-new battle accessory that harks back to the original content as well as a mini comic. The Masters of the Universe Origins Cartoon Collection action figures, meanwhile, will bring back fond memories of the 1980s. Key characters are featured with a modern execution of their 80s looks and 16 articulated joints that allow maximum posability and battle readiness. E ach MOTU Origins Cartoon Collection 5.5” figure comes with a themed mini-comic book to provide story context and at least one accessory to accentuate storytelling or enhance an Eternian display. Offering something new and unique, the Masters of the Universe Origins Turtles of Grayskull posable action figures are the result of a crossover between Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and MOTU. These toys represent an exciting overlap of these iconic worlds. Each 5.5” action figure has 16 posable joints. The Turtles figures are outfitted with Eternian-style battle gear and the MOTU characters with Turtles-inspired armour. An included mini-comic illustrates the crossover storyline to help ignite creative action play covering both universes, and each figure comes with at least one story-related

Toy World 16

accessory. Nostalgic graphics on the packaging honour the heritage of TMNT while illustrations reflect the multidimensional drama. The Turtles of Grayskull make great gifts for MOTU and TMNT enthusiasts aged six years and older. Fans can collect all the figures as many of the accessories are modular and can be combined, swapped and shared. Star Wars Grogu 4.0 is a plush toy inspired by the fanfavourite Star Wars character that will delight both kids and collectors. If You Were, an adult party game, has players asking ridiculous questions and pointing fingers to win. There are no judges for this game: instead, the majority rules. The active player draws a question card and reads it aloud. There are two types of cards: multiple choice, where players vote with their fingers (1-5), and single question cards, for which fingers are pointed at other players. Questions might require players to think about who is most likely to get taken out first in a horror film or become embroiled in the first political sex scandal. Then, all players vote. Scoring Wheels help players easily keep track of points. The players in the majority each get a point (and bragging rights). If You Were a Party Game is a hilarious adults-only, laughterinducing game and is a great addition to any game night, birthday party or bachelorette party. This Jurassic World Carnotaurus dinosaur figure is the latest addition to the Hammond Collection dinosaur lineup. Measuring 17” long, this premium Carnotaurus figure has a posable wired tail, glass eyes and content-accurate deco reflecting its starring scene as the fierce antagonist during the volcanic-eruption in Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom, where it faces off against the iconic T. rex (sold separately). This detailed figure of this large dinosaur species is highly posable, with a generous 18 points of articulation.

Brand Profile

Connetix

Vital connections Australian construction specialist Connetix is entering 2024 off the back of a very strong 12 months, which witnessed multiple consumer awards, significant team growth and an expanding global sales structure. Rachael Simpson-Jones caught up with CEO Brea Brand about how Connetix is building on its current portfolio and how its appearance on the Q1 trade show circuit will boost brand awareness.

S

ince launching in June 2019, right before the Covid-19 pandemic, Connetix has enjoyed remarkable success, becoming one of the industry’s most dynamic and fastest growing young companies. Speaking to me from her home in Perth, Australia, CEO Brea Brand is clearly delighted with the progress her company has made since its earliest days. From 15 in 2022, the team has now more than doubled to 45 members, most of which are based in Australia, with some stationed outside the country. In the UK, Glenn Harrison heads up the team as International Sales manager while Steve Cox serves as sales manager. Kaylee Smith is the latest member to join the construction specialist’s team, onboarding as internal eCommerce manager. Her remit, Brea says, is to ensure the Connetix brand values are always retained. There are also several team members in the UK and EU whose job it is to assist with retailer and customer support. In addition to this behind-the-scenes growth, Brea is thrilled that Connetix’s range of uniquely beveled magnetic tiles took home a number of UK consumer awards last year, further filling a trophy cabinet that already contained several from 2022. The Connetix 120 Piece Pastel Creative Pack was the big winner, netting a raft of nods from top toy testers: a Made For Mums 2023 Toy Awards Editors’ Choice award, a Dad’s Choice

award and three Loved by Parents Awards (Silver in Best Educational Toy, Gold in Best Pre-School Toy and Platinum in Best Construction Toy). Across the rest of the range, the 50 Piece Rainbow Transport Pack and 212 Piece Rainbow Mega Pack were both honoured with 2023 Creative Play Awards. Connetix also took home three Toy Shop UK – Independent Toy Awards: the Transport Pack won gold in the Special Needs category, along with silver for the 48 Piece Pastel Shape Expansion Pack in the STEAM category and bronze in the Educational category with the 64 Piece Pastel Starter Pack. For Brea and her team, these accolades reaffirm everything that makes Connetix Tiles special and serve as a stamp of approval from both the wider toy industry and UK consumers. Many Connetix team members possess qualifications such as master’s degrees in teaching or childhood development, while Brea herself is a master’squalified early childhood educator and experienced upper primary school teacher and entrepreneur. Co-founder Dave Alexander has a strong background in engineering and finance. Like their consumers, the business duo are also both parents to growing kids. Combined, the team brings a huge amount of knowledge and passion to the design table and creates toys that fuel open-ended, explorative play in a range of settings.

Toy World 20

“As well as consumers’ homes and playrooms, Connetix is present in educational establishments across the globe,” Brea explains. “As a company, we’re passionate about getting our products into the hands of children everywhere, so we engage with nurseries, pre-schools and primary schools to place Connetix sets right at the junction where play and learning meet. As experts in how children absorb information from the world around them and transform it into developmental benefits that set them up for life, we truly believe our products belong everywhere kids are.” Connetix’s product portfolio continues to grow, with its safe and sturdy magnetic tiles available in an everexpanding variety of shapes, colours and sizes. Made from non-toxic, ABS plastic, free from BPA, lead and phthalates, Connetix Tiles are internationally safety rated and manufactured with ultrasonic welding and metal rivets to make magnetic tile play safer for little hands. The unique bevel design provides added durability and clearer refractions. At the time Brea and I spoke, the company’s new launches for 2024 were still under wraps; Brea tells me that one of the biggest challenges the company has faced is the number of manufacturers imitating new Connetix releases. Because of that, the company is careful not to reveal too much, too soon. Connetix is also looking into diversifying its manufacturing processes, exploring new

Company Profile and rapidly growing global manufacturing hubs that offer improved capabilities. Again, Brea is playing her cards close to her chest, and we agree not to mention which countries are on the table in the near future. However, Toy World is able to reveal that Connetix has recently expanded its manufacturing into India. “I can tell you that, come London Toy Fair and Spielwarenmesse, we’ll be showcasing extensions to our current best-selling ranges, including Pastel, Rainbow and Clear, and further in to 2024 we’ll be launching a whole new line that will immerse even more kids to the open-ended play our tiles promote,” Brea adds. “We’re always looking for new and exciting ways to enhance traditional magnetic play with our tiles too, and to elevate the interactivity on offer. In our experience, this is what really cements those developmental benefits we care so much about: the hand-eye coordination, fine and gross motor skills, colour and shape recognition etc. In our Ball Run packs, for example, you’ll find clear fluted tubes so you can follow the ball as it makes its way through the run, as well as ‘special effect’ tubes and split tubes that let kids race their balls against each other.” As you can see from the images on these pages (or if you’ve seen the product in person) you’ll know Connetix not only feel great to play with, but they also look great too. It’s therefore unsurprising that Connetix has built up quite the Instagram following over the past few years. The @connetix_tiles Instagram account has over 400,000 followers and counting, who love to watch the build inspiration videos the company shares (ideas include mini golf, spinning tombola-style tumblers, animal ‘Guess Who, car ramps and hologram-style optical illusions) and comment on the numerous beautifully styled pictures of Connetix constructions in action. Users also share their own creations using #connetixtiles (over 30,000 posts). The Connetix Facebook page, meanwhile, has 44,000 followers alongside a private Connetix Community Facebook group filled with over 17,000 passionate play enthusiasts and parents wanting to chat all things Connetix. The Connetix TikTok account has nearly 16,000 followers and there’s

Connetix

also a YouTube channel, LinkedIn and Pinterest page. The followers of these accounts are a combination of retailers and consumers, all of whom are kept up to date on the latest launches and award wins, while they can also take part in competitions and giveaways to win free sets. The company’s strong social media presence forms a vital part of its marketing efforts too, generating plenty of organic content across Instagram and Facebook. Connetix is also running print advertising campaigns across both consumer and trade media titles (including Toy World, naturally), exposing its growing product line to as many marketing channels as possible to raise its profile across the globe. It’s for the same reasons that Connetix (along with the rest of the industry) is about to tackle show season once again. The company exhibited at London Toy Fair and Spielwarenmesse for the first time in 2023 and will return to both events this year, keen to further cement its place in the toy landscape. Taking home the unofficial award for the longest trip undertaken to attend the show, Brea and her team also netted the London Toy Fair Best Stand Award for their hugely impressive, colourful and inventive stand, which placed the product front and centre and helped draw in visitors with its can’t-miss colour scheme. Brea says visitors to the stand at Olympia (UN68) can expect the same level of impact, while the company’s stand at Spielwarenmesse (Hall 4, Stand F54) will be even bigger and better than before. “At the toy fairs we’ll be making a real statement with our stands: that we’re serious players in this industry, that we’re here to stay and expanding all the time,” Brea explains, when asked how the company is approaching the UK and German shows. “We’ve made huge strides within the toy market, considering Connetix is only four years old, but there are still people out there we want to reach and the combination of the two trade shows will allow us to do just that. Our brand awareness is rising all the time but, of course, we want to keep expanding that awareness by

Toy World 22

demonstrating the unique qualities of Connetix and the myriad ways kids can play with it.” Indeed, for a young company, Connetix has achieved impressive global distribution: it is currently stocked in more than 1,300 leading retailers in 75 countries worldwide, and that number is growing all the time. Part of the reason for its penetration in the global toy market is the company’s unwavering commitment to its retail and reselling partners, which include toy stores, educational suppliers and therapy services. The Connetix website prominently features a store locator, which helps drive footfall into stores, and the company is also unveiling new retail and customer support programmes this year. Brea says: “We really value and prioritise the relationships Connetix builds with its retailers, so we nurture these relationships in a variety of ways. For example, we’ll always maintain open, consistent communication, operate a balanced pricing model and involve resellers in planned annual sales. This is why we’ve gained such a loyal and valued retail network. Retailers can also easily access support through our dedicated, world class support team, while also benefitting from a suite of company assets they can use according to their individual marketing needs.” “On top of all this, Connetix nurtures relationships with its retailers by taking the needs of smaller stores into consideration when making business decisions,” adds Brea. “This includes ordering stock and keeping a close eye on stock quantity. With over thirteen hundred resellers across 75 countries, we also warmly welcome and encourage feedback to help guide our trajectory and maintain the value of the brand.” To book an appointment with the Connetix team at either London Toy Fair or Spielwarenmesse, contact wholesale@connetixtiles.com or swing by the stands (London Toy Fair: UN68, Spielwarenmesse: Hall 4, Stand F-54).

ToyCity talk Exhibitors tell us what they are most looking forward to showcasing at Spielwarenmesse, and why exhibiting at the international show is important to their company.

Sam Chung - Sales manager, Chengzhen International One of the products I’m eager to showcase at the Spielwarenmesse toy fair is the Lamborghini Revuelto. Lamborghini is one of the most well-known car brands in the world, and it is a car that many people dream to have. Revuelto is a brand-new car, and it is the automaker’s first plug-in hybrid vehicle. It is also the successor of Aventador which makes it a truly special car. We are super honoured to have the official licence from Lamborghini to make this new model with light and sound function. After many successful ranges, I’m sure that all our customers will like this new addition. As an exhibitor, this toy fair is very important for us for two main reasons; firstly, because we can meet our customers in the flesh. Being based in China makes it difficult to get to meet all our customers face-to-face, so Spielwarenmesse give us a great opportunity to meet our global clientele every year. Additionally, most of our products are licensed items, the fair also gives us the chance to meet most of our car licensors, share information with them and discuss new car applications.

Amber Elliott - Website, Marketing & Social Media manager, The Noble Collection UK

The Noble Collection is looking forward to showcasing its new line of video game collector replicas from the fan-favourite sandbox game, Minecraft, at Spielwarenmesse 2024. The Noble Collection has been known for many years as a creator of prop replicas and collectibles from film and TV franchises such as Harry Potter, Game of Thrones and Lord of the Rings. This is the first time that it has ventured into the licensed video game market. This opportunity has inspired us to use elements from the game to recreate iconic items such as torches, ores and tools, as we imagine they would exist in the real world. Created with unique textured finishes inspired by wood, stone and ores, these collector replicas are our unique take on the many worlds within Minecraft. As visitors during the start-up days of our EMEA branch, the unseen size and qualitative diversity of the International Toy Fair impressed us from day one. Its history since 1949 in Nuremberg is remarkable, and its legacy still continues over 70 years later. Today, it is the most important business meeting place and high mass for our market on the continent. For 14 years, we have met our global customers and partners at our booth in Hall 5, and we will continue to welcome new customers and contacts in 2024 and beyond.

Greg Kirk - Marketing executive, The Carat Shop The Carat Shop is most excited to be showcasing its new Barbie collection. The already popular franchise skyrocketed due to the Barbie film release in 2024 and we have taken full advantage of the increase in interest to create a collection that we truly believe will resonate with fans of all ages. It also broadens our reach when it comes to the clientele we can bring on board, as it brings a fresh new brand, away from the magic of Harry Potter. Spielwarenmesse, as a trade show, is a huge opportunity for The Carat Shop to widen its span of stockists on a global scale. We took huge strides in 2023 and plan to capitalise upon this by making new business relationships and finding amazing stockists to work with across Europe and further. By the end of the five days, it would be fantastic to have a large and diverse number of new leads to take back to our wider sales team, as well as catch up with existing clients to find out how they are doing and share our new product ranges. We have three huge brands on-board for 2024 and are excited to see what next year has in store.

Toy World 24

Touching Base Dominique Peckett - Director, Smiffys The product range that I’m most looking forward to showcasing in Nuremberg has to be our Rocky Horror Show collection. It is such a classic, iconic licence with a cult following that, for us, truly encapsulates the essence of dress-up and escapism. Smiffys has exhibited at Spielwarenmesse for literally decades and must be one of the longest serving exhibitors. We consider it the number one trade show in the dress up calendar. Nuremberg Toy Fair gives us an opportunity to not just welcome new customers, but to strengthen relationships with existing ones, and we have no doubt that it will deliver again in 2024.

Steve Finch - Managing director, Click Europe

I’m delighted to be showcasing our new boppi 10 in 1 progressive toddler jigsaw puzzles. They’ve been doing so well since their soft launch in September 2023 and the response from parents and influencers has been great. boppi is viewed as a lot more than just a puzzle: thanks to the inclusion of the themed backgrounds, they allow the play to be extended. With our expansion into Europe and fully operational warehouse, the show gives us an opportunity to meet face to face with current wholesale clients. This is so important to trust and relationship building. This year we’re also hoping to build distribution relations so that we can get the boppi brand out to an even wider audience.

Mike Barratt -

Pete Thomson -

International Sales director, Make It Real Make It Real is proud to be introducing LinXo, a true innovation that combines construction and fashion. The product offers repeated creation and continuous playability, and we anticipate it will be loved by consumers and all our global retail and distribution partners. Make It Real products are currently listed and loved around the world in over 90 countries. Spielwarenmesse gives us the perfect opportunity to meet our partners from international channels in one place. For us, Nuremberg is the pinnacle of all the hard work by our design and customer marketing teams and our distributors and retail partners. We can finally sit together in person and formulate an action plan to realize our objectives for 2024. Spielwarenmesse is also a lovely opportunity for the Make It Real global leadership team to meet with our partners. This provides the full team an opportunity to truly understand international customer needs, which can be leveraged in the global commercial planning process.

Andrea John -

Managing director John Toys The product range we’re most looking forward to showcasing is the soap bubbles that we are exhibiting for the first time at Nuremberg. We have already secured great licences from Disney, Marvel, Universal and Mattel for this new product category and are excited to present them to our customers. We are really proud to have been exhibiting at the fair for the last 70 years. We find it is the perfect opportunity for us to present our new product ranges to customers – it is so important that they can touch the items and see the great quality. Equally important is meeting new customers from around the globe as we sell to over 40 countries. We look forward to sharing our ranges with our visitors and of course receiving their feedback.

Michael Valenta - President, Magna-Tiles

We’re looking forward to exhibiting at Spielwarenmesse this year and will be showcasing our range that’s now available domestically in the UK for the first time. As it was previously an FOB only line, Nuremberg will be the first opportunity for UK visiting independents to see the range. We hope to talk to as many of them as possible during the fair. We’ll have everything from the Charlene supermodel styling head, our number one best seller in Europe, to our wide range of prams and buggies. These ranges from basic umbrella strollers right up to full travel systems which allow the swapping of a pram and car seat to create a one stop solution to transporting precious little ones – just like mum and dad. Buyers can also see our Charlene function doll – a 46 cm doll with 100 functions and 90 sentences - all in perfect English, and my own daughter did the voice over.

We are looking forward to showcasing the new Magna-Tiles Downhill Duo 40-Piece set, a highlight of our catalogue. Launched in August 2023, the Downhill Duo set won the esteemed US Toy of The Year Award in the pre-school category. Seamlessly integrating with all other Magna-Tiles sets, it introduces the first-ever magnetic figure and a revamped car designed to ride along the ramps and roads. Spielwarenmesse holds great importance to the Magna-Tiles team. Through this show, we have the opportunity to showcase our entire product catalogue to the global community. While one might argue that this can be accomplished virtually in today's digital age, our products, designed for young children, are so much more effectively demonstrated by a hands-on experience. We are committed to designing quality products that foster meaningful play, and merely presenting images and price lists falls short of conveying our passion. Each year, our company eagerly anticipates participating in Spielwarenmesse as it provides such a valuable opportunity to engage with our international retailers face-to-face, that we all thoroughly enjoy.

Toy World 26

Touching Base Omer Dekel - Chief operating officer, PMI We are equally excited for all our brands for different combinations of reasons, and we could not choose one over another. This year, we are proud to showcase several new master toy lines from our newly acquired licenses, Stumble Guys and The Creature Cases, and by popular demand, bringing series two of both Pudgy Penguins and Sonic Prime toy lines onto the show floor. We also have a surprise announcement for another brand-new toy line that we will reveal during the event, so stay tuned! I believe that it is important to build a true connection with our customers and attendees by sharing our genuine excitement for the new toys we planned while bonding over an in-person conversation. To us, Spielwarenmesse has been one of the most important international trade shows that can continue to bring our partners and major customers together. By the end of the five days at the event, we aim to drive excitement for our new products through the roof and give customers a chance to experience our products firsthand. We want to help our customers secure additional orders, especially in markets PMI has yet to reach, and we aim to do this by uniting PMI’s passion for toys and engaging interest from our attendees.

Chirag Shah - Chief operating officer, Hy-Pro

There are plenty of product ranges that I am looking forward to showcasing at the up-and-coming Spielwarenmesse toy fair. As the UK’s fastest growing sports equipment, licensing and scooter brand, we have a wide variety of stunning product choice that we will be presenting. These vary from Formula E scooters to our innovative Zinc Flyte scooter range, as well as officially licensed merchandise for some of the world’s biggest football clubs.

Being at Spielwarenmesse means that we are in the right place to meet the right contacts that will help our business flourish. It’s a great platform that allows us to put our products in front of the buyers for some of the biggest stores worldwide. It’s the ultimate toy buying destination for retailers, independents and multiples, and it provides suppliers like us with the chance to present our new launches with them.

Alison Downie - Global Licensing and Brand director, HTI Toys We're witnessing expansion and growth in the Colour Change range, particularly with the latest addition, Brain Wash, which is poised to become a standout favourite at the upcoming show. Filling the translucent, squishy brain with water and loading the Colour Change car to the back of the skull is such great fun, as is releasing the water by squeezing the brain and pulling down the lever to watch the skulls eyes spin and the Colour Change car fly. HTI holds a strong position at Spielwarenmesse and while our showroom might not encompass every product line featured in our Lancashire and Hong Kong showrooms, we are fortunate to have the space to highlight the top products from our key brands. Among them are Teamsterz, EVO Baby, Chic, Bubblz and Epic Fun, alongside our roleplay licences, including Peppa Pig, Bluey, Gabby’s Dollhouse and Baby Shark. Our international team from various corners of the globe participate in the show, allowing us to accommodate existing retailers and engage with new buyers from around the world. Given the extensive range of offerings and the presence of the global toy industry at Spielwarenmesse, it stands as a pivotal event for HTI to explore new business opportunities and establish valuable connections.

Michael Sacks - VP, Small World Toys Our Creativity Kits have been very successful these past few years and we expect them to enjoy plenty of attention at this year’s Spielwarenmesse. Our R&D team has done a great job at coming up with trendy new ideas and activities kids can spend a good amount of time both creating and playing with. We come to Nuremberg to meet with potential new customers and to touch base with our existing longterm customers. Our product performs best when you see it in person, play with it, try it out: the best way to connect with our products is to experience them. We’ll be presenting open packages for the buyers to touch and feel, making Spielwarenmesse a great place to see our complete range.

Massimo Pellegrino - CEO, Diramix I am most excited about showcasing our MonsterFlex line and the new licensed collections, Dragon Ball Super and Stumble Guys, which are already receiving a lot of interest from the market. It is important for me to be at Spielwarenmesse to meet with our partners and reinforce our business relations. We hope to meet new partners as well, this way we can expand our distribution in countries where we are not yet present.

Touching Base Daniel Ward - Head of Sales, Craft Buddy

Laura Atorrasagasti ‘Marketing ninja’, Eolo Toys

Biggies, the super mega-size plush, is Eolo Toy’s hottest brand this year. Its rapid expansion into more than 40 markets within its first year is an impressive achievement and we are very happy with the trust placed in the brand. Thanks to this success, we will be showcasing the brand extension, Little Biggies, set to launch for the spring and summer 2024 campaign. The Nuremberg Toy Fair has always been essential for us. The timing, location, visitor profile and exhibitors make it one of the most important events in the toy industry. In fact, this year, the Eolo Toys group will have a presence with two of our companies: Toyzone and Eolo Toys. We see this event as strategically beneficial for showcasing the offerings of both companies, as well as for getting in contact with potential customers and staying in touch with our current ones.

The product I’m most looking forward to showcasing at Spielwarenmesse is the Harry Potter licensed collection. One of the most frequentlyasked questions when we meet with new partners at trade shows is: ‘Do you have a Harry Potter licence?’ and we are happy to finally be able to say ‘Yes, we do!’. Bringing the beloved Harry Potter characters and icons to our Crystal Art & Paint By Numb3rs ranges is bound to gain us a lot of interest from international partners. We can’t wait to see their faces light up when we show them the new range at Spielwarenmesse. Spielwarenmesse holds significant importance for us as it's the event where we meet and acquire new international distributors, key partners and venture into new markets. Müller, ROFU and Vedes are a few key German retail partners we met at previous shows and have since established an amazing relationship with. It’s a key stage to present all our new products to present to our existing partners, and - just as importantly - it’s an annual celebration of the toy industry where we can get together, catch-up, connect and have a few drinks.

Daniel DeLapa CMO, Creative Kids

The product range we are most looking forward to showcasing is Nano Crafts. It’s such an innovative and trend-driven line that doesn’t exist anywhere in the market to the mass consumer. Nano Crafts is a line that demonstrates the direction Creative Kids is going as a change-maker in the industry: being first to market, always innovating and focusing on what’s new. Creative Kids is one of the fastest growing global activity suppliers so exhibiting at an international show such as Spielwarenmesse is a no-brainer. We’re on a mission to have our products in the hands of consumers across the planet. There’s no better show to do that than Spielwarenmesse.

Andrei Kalesnikovich -

Chief executive officer, EWA

manager, Dulcop International S.p.A. All our products hold significance: buyers at Spielwarenmesse aren't just looking at the product itself, but at the extensive array of choices and the opportunity to explore tailored offerings for their specific needs. At Dulcop, our strength lies in being quick and adaptable and delivering personalised products. Furthermore, we provide a guarantee of safety and have already made substantial strides in minimising our environmental impact, which is an ongoing commitment. Spielwarenmesse holds a special place for us as a key event in the toy industry. With our active participation in over 50 iterations, we are confident that we have evolved into a noteworthy presence at the fair, establishing ourselves as a significant player in the industry.

Our core business since the foundation of the company has been the creation of moving mechanical models in the form of constructors. We are regularly expanding our product range in this area and will continue to do so, following positive feedback on them from our partners and customers. So, the product range which we will prioritise to present at Spielwarenmesse will be EWA puzzles and mechanical constructors. Spielwarenmesse is the largest toy exhibition in Europe, where all manufacturers of goods that can relate to the toys and games category take part. At this exhibition, we plan to meet our current partners, find new ones, discuss co-operation with both and, of course, let them see for themselves the current range and all the new products of EWA Eco-Wood-Art in person.

Cra-Z-Art is excited about all the lines it will be exhibiting as this encompasses a huge range of toy items, from hot licences like Barbie, to collectibles like Crystal Surprise, and our popular line of on-trend fashion and beauty items from our Shimmer ‘n Sparkle brand. Of course, we’ll be showing many other innovative products as well, including new Slimy and Softee Dough products. We’ve had many successful shows in Nuremberg and we’re confident that will continue. Spielwarenmesse plays an integral role in selling-in our fantastic brands into the European market. Our goal is to maintain current thriving relationships with our existing retail and distribution partners, as well as extend our distribution into new markets and channels.

At Casdon, we’re beyond excited to have a brand-new licensed range to share with everyone at Spielwarenmesse. We are extremely proud to be launching the Ooni toy range, a brilliant addition to our already hugely successful foodinspired lines by Casdon, including Joseph Joseph and Kenwood. These lines are key to a child's development, as they not only encourage key development and imagination skills, but also teach children to have a healthy relationship with food from a very early age. Spielwarenmesse is a great way to spend quality time with our customers and the wider industry. We are hoping to have meaningful conversations and meetings with our customers and spend valuable time with our retailers to show them around and present some exciting newness to them.

Cra-Z-Art

Emma Charlesworth - Director, Roma Prams James Vallis - Managing director, Hyper Toys Our strategic growth in the last 12-18 months has been within the e-mobility categories. This is always a great category to showcase as it is constantly driven with new development on Hyper e-bikes, e-scooters, hoverboards and electric rides – and the product demos are such great fun too! Spielwarenmesse has always been, and continues to be, a fantastic global toy show where we can meet colleagues and friends, both old and new, from all destinations and retailers around the world. We look forward to meeting everyone and receiving strong (and hopefully positive) feedback as usual on our new product launches from buying teams from around the world.

This year, Roma will be attending Spielwarenmesse with a full collection of doll prams, complete with coordinating accessories. I’m most excited to showcase our latest fabric, the Teddy. Each of our ranges is designed around the fabrics, which reflect current trends in fashion and toy categories. The Teddy is classic but with a modern twist, featuring sherpa fabrics and a soft cream palette. The fabrics are featured across a range of models including dolls buggies, highchairs, car seats, backpacks and a soft sherpa blanket. There will also be a coordinating range in our full-size baby category, so little ones can be matching with mum. Roma is already listed in a wide selection of independent retailers, as well as premium retailer Harrods and some European distributors. Our goal for this year is to establish connections with more distributors and facilitate communication between stores and their respective local distributors to ensure the global visibility of the Roma range.

manager, Bladez Toys

We’re extremely proud and excited to present an entirely new line to the sophisticated fleet of Bruder vehicles at London Toy Fair: the Range Rover Velar series. We’re confident that with this latest addition to the range, the British Range Rover brand, Bruder will continue to capture the imaginations of customers and fans in the UK for years to come. It is remarkable that London Toy Fair is celebrating its 70th anniversary, but it just goes to show what a timeless show it is - as well as the reliability and year-round appeal of the toy industry, of course.

Tom Hudson - CEO, Marvin’s Magic

I’m most excited about our new Wicked Pranks range. These are classic pranks that we all know and love, combined with some really cool new innovations. The Marvin’s Magic team and I had so much fun putting this range together and pranking each other along the way. I don’t think our sales manager has forgiven me for slipping him a Cheesy Feet Sweet! Spielwarenmesse is important to us because it’s one of the most important shows in the toy industry, and since there is no New York Toy Fair this year, it’s even more important to meet our international partners. It’s great for building brand visibility around the world, as there are so many attendees from far and wide. I’m very keen to show the innovation that we have been working on in the background; I think people are going to be blown away by what we have up our sleeves. It’s also a crucial opportunity to meet colleagues from within the industry, to discuss business highs and lows from the past year and share what we are excited about in the future. Plus, there are some fabulous restaurants and pubs in Nuremberg.

Serge Wehbe -

Head of Marketing, Bildits Our latest thematic range of construction kits is, without a doubt, the line that we’re most looking forward to showcasing at the Nuremberg Toy Fair. Available for both our retail and education portfolios, we've revamped our core offering, upgraded our packaging and launched 10 kits that cover the fundamentals of the construction process. Whether you're laying bricks, pouring concrete, or constructing fortified columns, the Bildits experience is as real as construction gets. The Nuremberg Toy Fair is one of the most important events on our marketing calendar. The fair provides us with the platform to showcase our award-winning toys in front of the entire industry and get inspired by the latest trends and innovations. More granularly, we get the opportunity to meet retailers and distributors from all over the world and to discuss the prospects of launching new markets. If previous editions are any indication, we're highly optimistic about the prospects of meeting relevant professionals that can help us expand our presence globally.

Toy World 34

At Spielwarenmesse 2023, Bladez’s Minecraft range was so new that we only had a few items ready to show, but this year we will have a full range on display with many more Make Your Own characters, giant Make Your Own playsets and creative activity sets at a range of price points, which I can't wait for buyers to see all together. There was a real buzz at Spielwarenmesse last year. It was great to be back, and it reminded us that it's an occasion that can create unexpected opportunities. Last year, we came away with everything from small, but exciting, new projects to new distribution partners, so let's see what 2024 has in store.

Matias Ramdohr - CEO, Happy Line Our company is thrilled to present a wide range of exciting new products at this year's Spielwarenmesse. From the ultimate stress-relief Hey Butty fidget toys, to the enchanting animal play sets with adorable kitty characters, we have a range of exciting toys that I’m sure will capture the hearts and imaginations of children worldwide. However, if we had to choose just one, we can’t wait to showcase Rainbow Shaker, our newest art & crafts toy. By presenting Rainbow Shaker at Spielwarenmesse and introducing it to the market, we aim to promote mindfulness, self-expression and stress release in a fun and engaging way. We are excited to see the positive impact this product will have on children's well-being and the joy it will bring to families everywhere. By the end of the five-day event, we aim to have created a lasting impression with our innovative product range, leaving attendees excited and eager to explore our offerings further. We will strive to establish meaningful business partnerships, secure distribution agreements and expand our global reach, and we hope to gather invaluable market insights, identify emerging trends and gain a competitive edge by staying ahead of the curve. Ultimately, our presence at Spielwarenmesse is a testament to our commitment to excellence, innovation and building meaningful connections within the toy industry. We look forward to showcasing our products, engaging with industry professionals and leaving a lasting impact on the global toy market.

Wow! Stuff

tony.white@wowstuff.com (UK and EMEA) sunny.walia@wowstuff.com (USA) Hall 4A, Stand B-26 There will be several highly anticipated launches at Wow! Stuff’s Nuremberg stand. Two blockbuster brands that were shown behind closed doors at the LA toy previews in September 2023 and New York Toy Fair are set to be revealed in full at Spielwarenmesse. An iconic Disney brand set to get Wow! Stuff’s Real FX treatment. Real FX makes licensed brand characters ‘Look Real, Feel Real and Sound Real’. Just like the multi award-winning Real FX characters previously, the new Real FX Stitch comes to life like never before. International retailers around the world are excited by this new item, and at the Spielwarenmesse, buyers and retailers will be offered a first look at the finished toy. Real FX Stitch will feature 100 actions and sounds and has already sold out for the 26th June launch, but more stock will be available for this autumn/winter. This super-realistic rendering of the adorable on-screen character will nurture, bite, sniff and speak, and measures 45cm tall. The mischievous, genetically engineered creature will be the ultimate best friend for Lilo & Stitch fans. The second innovation from Wow! Stuff is Crystal Wishies, a glowing Mystical Crystal which takes on a child’s wish and empowers them when they wear it. The crystal glows white, but changes colour when a new wish is activated by the child, who chooses it from the beautiful wish parchment scroll. Confidence is represented in amber, bravery in blue, good luck in purple and more. To empower the Mystical Crystal with the child’s chosen wish, it is placed into a bucket and lowered into the Magical Wishing Well. By following the instructions and pouring the wish mix in the correct order shown on the scroll, the well will erupt in multi coloured lights and sounds. After several seconds, the Mystical Crystal will glow in the colour of the chosen wish and the child can wear the crystal on the pendant or bracelet, repeating the process for a new or different wish. The Noble Collection has been known for many years as a creator of prop replicas and collectibles from film and TV franchises such as Harry Potter, Game of Thrones and Lord of the Rings, but this is the first time that the company has ventured into the licensed video game market. With the Minecraft range recently launched at New York Comic Con and in The Noble Collection’s London store, The Noble Collection uses elements and textures from the game to recreate iconic items such as torches, ores and tools as they would exist in the real world. Much like the game, some assembly is required, with four interlocking quadrants and wood and metal-like textures making up the board. With many finely sculpted licensed chess sets available across The Noble Collection’s range of properties, bestselling sets include the Harry Potter Wizard Chess set, Lord of the Rings, Jurassic Park and a Tri-Dimensional Chess set from Star Trek. The Noble Collection’s well-established range of collectible Wizarding World replica wands has recently been expanded with a brand-new character, Defence Against the Dark Arts teacher Gilderoy Lockhart. Diramix

+390267481415 | www.diramix.com | sales@diramix.com Hall 5, Stand D67 Founded in 2013, Diramix focuses on collectible products that are widely available on Italian newsstands. Over the past 10 years, it has acquired a leading position in the newsstand market, and has expanded globally thanks to MonsterFlex, a line of stretchable characters now distributed in over 35 countries worldwide. The MonsterFlex brand was created with the intention of bringing children's favourite monsters into every home, with unique and eye-catching design at affordable prices. The character design takes place in-house, with the help of highly experienced illustrators and 3D designers. In addition to the focus on design, the tactile and playing needs of children were considered, with the aim of creating characters that are appealing to their imaginations and while being ideal for the needs of manual play. MonsterFlex characters are extendable and malleable to stimulate children's imagination, encouraging them to create stories and fights, whether playing alone or with others. This approach has paid off, enabling MonsterFlex to reach its 6th series, to which the spin-offs Dino, Aqua and Combat have been added as mini and maxi versions. More recently, MonsterFlex has been joined by renowned evergreen properties such as DC Superheroes and Dragon Ball Super. Dragon Ball Super MonsterFlex were created under the supervision of Toei Animation and Shueishua, to bring the highest level of detail to fans of the series, who will find the main transformations of Goku and Vegeta and other iconic characters such as Future Trunks, Piccolo, Jiren and Golden Frieza within this line. The decision to acquire the Dragon Ball property is due to the continued interest of children in the characters and their stories, which garner acclaim from generation to generation. 2024 will mark the 40th anniversary of Dragon Ball, a year packed with celebrations. The line is already being distributed in several countries, such as France, UK, Spain, Turkey, Greece, and further global expansion is planned. Finally, 2023 marked the addition of Stumble Guys to Diramix’s portfolio. Alongside the card and sticker collections for the Italian market, 3D mini figures (three different series of 26 models), and MonsterFlex stretchable characters were produced for world debut in all markets. Stumble Guys is a successful multiplayer video game created in 2020 and available on several platforms. It is played online in rounds consisting of 32 players, who must compete by overcoming different obstacles to reach the finish line. Cheatwell Games

02392 524098 | www.cheatwell.com sales@cheatwell.com Hall 10, Stand C28 Cheatwell Games’ latest range includes new games and puzzles, complementing old favourites and covering all popular categories. Walk Like a Chicken is a cross between hide and seek and charades. Players search for character discs hidden around the house, but there’s a twist. If kids are looking for the chicken, then they walk like a chicken; if it's the robot, they need to start doing their best robot dance. This game exercises both body and mind. How Do You Doodle? is a drawing game with a difference. If the card selected reads ‘draw a boat’, some players might draw a ship, while others draw a cruiser. The aim of the game is to guess what the others have doodled from the choices on the card - everybody’s drawing the same thing, just differently. In the game of Act Fast, one Guesser attempts to guess the charades that the Actors are miming, but all players are acting at the same time, against the clock. Inter-Galactic Plumber sees the galaxy become gridlocked with hazardous asteroid fields, and players are tasked with de-clogging the space lanes using their plungers to remove asteroids and gaining points along the way. New additions to the Games for Gifts series include Word Stars, a rapid race to solve a mystery word before the timer runs out. Players must crack the clues to see the mystery word start to emerge, and the faster it’s solved, the more stars are won. With hundreds of hidden words to guess and lots of creative clues to solve, Word Stars is ideal for word lovers and lateral thinkers. Also joining Games for Gifts will be the ever-popular song-guessing game, Humm Bug and Cheatwell’s fun party game, Pickles to Penguins. With It Fits…, players dream up answers to given statements. The aim is to choose an answer that fits the selected card and as many face-up cards as possible – and convince opponents that the answer truly fits. Next 5 Words is a quick-fire lyric guessing game for all the family. Players appoint a DJ, open a streaming service and choose the genre to begin. The DJ stops the music at a random point and then it's a race to roll a musical note and sing, or say, the Next 5 Words correctly. Complementing the ever-popular Top Trivia Ultimate, 5,000 trivia questions on a wealth of general knowledge topics, the new Decades Edition will cover the fads, fashion and facts from the 1960s to the 2010s. Cheatwell is now the distributor of the Opoly range of games. Each Opoly covers a different interest, from dogs to dinosaurs, wines to zombies, and cats to Christmas. Each Opoly comes complete with a themed playing board and cards, piles of cash and the obligatory themed metal playing pieces. The extensive Cobble Hill range of jigsaw puzzles has joined the Cheatwell portfolio of puzzles, with fabulous images, blue-board puzzle pieces and sturdy puzzle boxes with linen print finishes. There are over 130 styles to choose from covering every interest, and roll-away mats, sorting trays, glues and other puzzle paraphernalia are also available. Three new images are being introduced to the popular World’s Smallest Jigsaws range. Each puzzle comprises 1,000 pieces but is just A3 in size, making them highly challenging and hugely collectable. Cheatwell is also reducing its box sizes and removing single-use plastics in its continuing efforts to drive down its carbon footprint.

The new Jeanne baby doll is lovingly designed and, like all Corolle dolls, characterised by its unmistakable, delicate vanilla scent. The new Bloxies collectible figures from Simba Toys are presented under the strapline, "It's hip to be square!". Animals such as the mole, hippopotamus or the on-trend axolotl come in a square, colourful design and offer fun unique play and collectability for children aged three and over. When the Bloxie is pressed, it reacts with funny movements. The owl rolls its eyes and spreads its wings, while the crocodile opens its mouth and wiggles its ears. Several Bloxies can also be stacked to form a tower and then the Bloxie on top of the tower can be pressed to make all animals move at the same time. The Bloxies are packed in a square surprise box and are available in six different colours for collecting and trading. In the second half of 2024, the range will be expanded to include three playsets. The new Screamerz product line is a trio of cuddly toys with a difference and consists of the purple Monkey Madness, the blue Babbling Bear and the pink Rambling Rabbit. The approximately 30cm stuffed animals have fluffy fur and big, googly eyes. The battery-operated plush offers several different functions. When users press lightly on their belly, they open their mouths and let out a short scream. Cobi Toys

07584 858 978 | www.cobi.pl Hall 4, Stand B-79, C-80

June 2024 will bring the 80th anniversary of D-Day, when major international commemorative events on both sides of the channel will mark the anniversary of the Normandy landings. This year’s D-Day anniversary will be a large-scale celebration and Cobi will be marking the occasion with a collection of six scaled models. One of the key products to be launched is the Higgins Boat (LCVP – Landing Craft, Vehicle, Personnel Carrier), a landing craft that was used during World War II and D-Day on a massive scale in Operation Overlord. The landing craft, which was designed by Andrew Higgins and built mainly of wooden plywood, was cheap to manufacture and extremely light, but it could also hold up to 3.6 tonnes of cargo and could reach speeds of up to 12 knots (14mph). The Cobi model of the Higgins Boat faithfully replicates its historical prototype in 1:35 scale. It has movable elements such as two machine guns with covers and a mechanism for lowering and raising the front ramp. Another important release is the Lockheed F-22 Raptor. The high-quality brick model with 695 pieces has been designed in a 1:48 scale, complementing the rest of the Cobi Armed Forces collection. Cobi has developed new bricks which are characteristic of the F-22, such as the aircraft nose, the cabin and vertical stabilisers. The model is perfectly finished, smooth like its real counterpart with Stealth technology. It includes an opening cabin and a detailed pilot figure wearing an oxygen mask. The plane's landing gear can be easily dismantled to showcase the model on the display stand, which also includes a plate with the plane's name and the US flag printed on it. The detailed model has been designed to be a real treat for collectors and enthusiasts of military technology and brick modelling. Another range being launched is a collection of entry level scaled aircraft and tank models. These have been specifically designed to encourage new modellers into the military modelling and construction market. A range of planes in 1:48 scale will be available and includes Mustang P-51, Mitsubishi A6M2 Zero, Yakovlev YAK 3, Yakovlev YAK1B, Hawker Typhoon Mk.IB and Supermarine Spitfire Mk.XVI. The tank ranges in 1:72 scale will be available in two different CDUs.

rom cutting-edge educational games, card or board games to timeless baby and toddler friendly toys, visitors can immerse themselves in a world of pure imagination at the French Pavilion at Spielwarenmesse in Hall 12, Stand D16. Revenue in the French toys and games market hit £3.68b (US$4.64b) in 2023. While growth is stagnating globally, the French toy segment is going against the grain and is expected to expand at a CAGR of +5.09% of between 2023-2030, with a focus on products designed to entertain, educate and encourage interaction between young minds. Learning for the world of tomorrow France’s thriving toy and games companies have leaned into technological advances to spark kids’ imaginations and contribute to the learning and development of young children. Bugali offers the perfect example of this, with its interactive tactile book which turns into a multilingual audiobook upon touching the pages. The company’s mission is to put children at the heart of their own learning with a tool that allows them to roam freely through imaginative stories at their fingertips. Continuing with the theme of storytelling, Lunii’s My Fabulous Storyteller takes the form of a retro, child-friendly radio and comes with a range of stories available in nine languages for ages 3-7+ via the Lunii app. Not only can children listen to stories, but they can also record their own stories on the app or have a family member record a story for them to listen back to. Lunii’s small and sturdy design is just right for children and can be used with headphones, anywhere, anytime. This screen-free entertainment system,

with no EMF emissions, is designed to stimulate children’s imagination and promote independent thought. Games of the future Board and card games remain a very important category within the French toy and games market. Indeed, French card and board games are pushing boundaries for fun and immersive experiences for children and young adults. Topla’s raison d’être is to design games that change the world. The company’s Sexploration range includes a set of inclusive games for informed sexual education, free from taboos, embarrassment and clichés. The aim is to help teenagers and young adults explore sexuality, steering away from the often-distorted version portrayed on their screens. Online and digital gaming is big business in France and the number of French online gamers is expected to reach 10.2m by 2028. Juduku (ATM Gaming) is riding the wave of the online gaming market surge, tapping into the recent trend of games popularised by titles such as Cards Against Humanity, aiming to surprise and uncover the innermost thoughts and feelings of fellow players. The DAFUQ app is ever-growing, with eight new packs being uploaded each month including PG to 18+ versions. Green play Toys for toddlers and pre-schoolers has long been the largest segment of the French market and this trend looks set to continue. One significant factor shaping this segment is the growing demand for sustainable and eco-friendly products. This shift is driven by heightened awareness of the environmental impact of toys, and consumers are actively

seeking products crafted from recycled or sustainable materials. With a focus on quality materials and thoughtful design, Sophie La Girafe products are made to withstand the test of time. This iconic character enables children to explore the world with early learning sets or soothe teething discomfort with gentle, textured teethers. The brand dates back to the 60s, but its focus and natural and durable materials has rendered its products modern classics. Sophie La Girafe is already featured in UK stores such as Selfridges, John Lewis, Smyths Toys Superstores and Next UK. Another company rising to the challenge of sustainability for children’s toys is Le Jouet Simple, with its 100% recycled and recyclable hard plastic toys for young children. According to the company, toys have an average lifespan of only eight months, leading to approximately 100,000 tonnes of toys being binned annually in France. To buck this trend, Le Jouet Simple aims to support the circular economy by offering a line of durable and sustainable products that foster toddlers' and young children's creativity and problemsolving skills. From traditional but valiant giants to innovative up-andcomers, the French Pavilion will showcase the very best of the French toy and game industry at Spielwarenmesse. Visitors are invited to step into a word of French flair and imagination filled with everything from educational toys, card and board games to toddler and pre-school toys and much more in Hall 12, Stand D16. (49) 176 476 88955 www.wyncor.com Hall 12.0, Stand E-15 Wyncor is a new global toy company established with a mission to create and deliver innovative and creative toys for its own intellectual properties and premium brands. Wyncor’s mission is to offer speed and flexibility to retailers and partners, best-in-class product development for alignment with partners’ IP content and premium quality and innovative products to consumers. Wyncor will offer a solid range of innovative and unique patented products, such as the Miraball, ReClay, SwopPop (patent filed), Mon Ami and Oozy Squeezy, and will produce licensed and non-licensed product lines. Wyncor will donate a percentage of global toy sales to Gustave Roussy, the leading cancer research hospital in Europe. The company has acquired global rights from three powerhouse companies, Hasbro, Zag and Emoji Company – the first of multiple new partners soon to be announced – for its first product launches this spring. For Hasbro, there is a Miraball for Peppa Pig, My Little Pony, Transformers (excluding Japan) and Monopoly. Miraball is a collectible toy that features two surprises. Boasting new patented technology, the 2.75-inch diameter colourful blind pack ball reveals three secrets. Under the wrap is a vibrantly painted metal dangler ball, and when the ball is popped open, a large hidden plush charm expands to over four inches in diameter, thanks to the innovation of a new ultra-shrinkable memory foam plush. Zag’s Miraculous brand has products already at retail including Miraball, SwopPop and Mon Ami Kwamis, with ReClay launching this spring. Mon Ami (French for ‘my friend’), is a range of 9.5-inch glossy and glittery-eyed animal friends that feature uniquely tooled 3D and three-layer resin eyes, 3D eyelashes and a stitched badge for authenticity. A new line is in production that features popular animals, including the axolotl, blue-ringed octopus, bat, penguin, narwhal and deer, with their resin eyes featuring a silver heart. SwopPop (patent filed) is a fashion-forward line of unique ‘minipop’ bags which are fully customisable and interchangeable with a wide range of Swops—handles, straps, ears and figurines; and Pop badges which make the pop sound. All Swops and Pops come in unique stackable and reusable transparent PopBoxes. ReClay is the first toy compound that transforms from a solid state to a fluid state, again and again. It becomes smooth and soft in warm water, ready to be shaped into any object, curing within minutes into a hard and durable item that can be displayed as is or painted with water-soluble acrylic colours. The product launches with eight colours, figurine moulds and a starter kit. Miraball and SwopPop will continue to spread fun, enthusiasm and emotions across the globe for the Emoji Company. Another of Wyncor’s first patented products to market is Oozy Squeezy, a sensory surprise in five ranges: DoubleDinos, Ghosties, Fruities, Solar System and Zag’s Miraculous. With a unique, rich and luxurious texture, additional fun features across the line include glow-in-the-dark, double squeeze, stardust and marble finishes.
