Executive Summary The Division of Student Affairs at The University of Texas at Brownsville and Texas Southmost College is pleased to present the synopsis of the annual reports for 2011-2012. During the past year, we have had many opportunities to enhance and enrich the college experience for our students. This report highlights some of the more notable achievements of each department within the division.
The Division of Student Affairs seeks to provide services and activities that are consistent with the mission, educational purposes, location and student characteristics of The University of Texas at Brownsville and Texas Southmost College. These programs, services and activities enhance student learning and personal development. They are designed to attract and retain students by offering: •

Philosophy The Division on Student Affairs is committed to the concept that the students are the most important of our priorities. We focus our programs and services on the success of our students. Our vision, mission, core values and goals reflect this view of our work.
Core Values
The Division of Student Affairs recognizes the importance of students having a support structure in order to be successful both academically and within the university social setting. We believe our departments that serve the students are vital to their educational success. Our focus is on maximizing the overall student experience, in and out of the classroom.

The following successes are a reflection of how Student Affairs helps students CONNECT:
500+ volunteers participated in the University Scholars’ 2nd Annual Martin Luther King Day of Service, with 20 projects hosted. 177 recruiters participated in several career fairs with 2,397 students connected in FY 2011-2012.
60 percent increase in Greek student organizations from three to five in one year, with the
new implementation of the first Greek Council to provide guidance and governance.
1,850 individual students received individual assistance from career services. 1,731 students connected to campus life through events like Life thru Lens, Leadership Lecture Series, Food for Thoughts, and Earth Day.
85 Student Life campus activities connected students. 74 percent of 2011-2012 STING students agree that the peer mentoring connection helped
them to succeed in college.

The following successes are a reflection of how Student Affairs helps students DEVELOP:
80 percent of students employed reported in the 2011 Student Employment Survey that
job-related experience has developed their ability to work as a team.
76 percent of students in 2011-2012 acknowledged a better understanding of UTB and TSC campus environment due to their involvement in the STING program.
742 sessions were favorably conducted by career counselors. One survey participant
shares, “I found that the Career Counselor was genuinely interested in helping me decide about my career options.”
102 students employed through Campus Recreation in 2011-2012, making it the largest employer of UTB and TSC campus.
2,333 students through campus-wide activities and 1,109 students through
classroom education reached by seven Peer Educators trained by Student Health Services on prevention of sexually transmitted and HIV protection.

3.52 cumulative GPA achieved by University Scholars Cohort, highest among Student Services Cohorts.
13.46 average attempted hours by Student Service Cohorts and 92 percent completion rate in 2012 fall semester.
3.03 cumulative GPA achieved by Student Services Cohorts in 2012 fall semester. 3.06 cumulative GPA for Student Affairs part-time staff and 92 percent cumulative
completion rate in 2012 fall semester.
2.90 cumulative GPA for all Student Affairs cohorts, Student Staff, and Student Engagement in 2012 fall semester and a 91 percent completion rate. 99% completion rate for GTF Scholars and University Scholars in 2012 fall semester. 3.27 cumulative GPA for Student Employment Initiative students (SEI), and 15.01 average hours completed in 2012 fall semester.
