FOREWORD The Performing Arts team have worked incredibly hard to prepare an exceptional lineup of entertainment at our iconic Townsville Civic Theatre for 2024. Following the natural arc of the wet season, the work is divided into the four distinct lessons of Country: Nature, Morality, Kinship and Lineage. Each lesson is a fundamental tool needed to
understand the story of the wet season. The Wet has been created on Country across Far North Queensland in response to the landscape and endless yarns with the community. Drawing on these ancient stories of the wet tropics, this dynamic acrobatic show thrills while connecting everyone to Country. The Wet is a powerfully enduring circus, dripping with Culture. When the orchestra hasn't shown up and the audience is waiting, call the Flying Fruit Fly Circus! A highly distinguished musician has arrived to conduct their latest symphony, but the orchestra is nowhere to be found. Fortunately, the Fruities are ready to save the day! And create chaos with the concert grand piano… Directed by Jake Silvestro with an original score by Ania Reynolds, Tempo features an extraordinary ensemble of young performers aged between 12 and 18 who not only possess dazzling circus skills but also play instruments! Shifting between striking aerial acts and highly choreographed acrobatic chaos, Tempo draws heavily on the traditional knockabout humour of the Flying Fruit Fly Circus – a trademark of the company over many years. Magic, slapstick, juggling, balancing, acrobatics and aerials tumble in, out and around the concert grand piano. With no dialogue and plenty of gasp-inducing action, Tempo appeals to every age and is suitable, or perhaps essential, for all families.

HERO’S JOURNEY is a bold new work by Chris Dyke, a Kaurna (Adelaide) based dancer and emerging choreographer living with Down syndrome. Chris is a young man with big hopes and a compendium of larger-than-life heroes that come to his aid in dark times. Chris is a champion for inclusivity, and whilst his internal landscape is rich with dreams, wild imagination and an unfailing love for all, especially his mum, at times the outside world sees only the cover of the book. A book, which, if they dared to open, would tell tender tales of care and friendship, and a radically inspiring story of creative brilliance. Featuring the breathtaking Dancenorth ensemble alongside Chris as the lead protagonist, Hero’s Journey is the retelling of a classic tale in which love and light rise up against the darkness. Inspired by Chris’ real life heroes Banksy, David Bowie and Freddie
Mercury, Hero’s Journey illuminates Chris’ profoundly moving and life affirming adventure through the world. Throughout the work each of these icons acts as a mirror, reflecting Chris’ expansive perception and limitless sense of possibility. Join Chris as he traverses individual and universal truths in a dance to the very centre of what it means to be human. The stories take us from David’s traditional lands to the international mega stages as David traversed the world musically, educating people about his culture. He co-founded the awardwinning dance troupe Tjapukai, whose achievements include being Australia’s longest-running theatrical production. David has emerged as a strong cultural leader with a significant arts practice. Melinda Schneider returns to the stage in 2024 to pay tribute to the legendary Doris Day. The world lost one of its biggest stars with the passing of Doris Day with her leaving behind an incredible body of work, including iconic movies and unforgettable songs. Doris Day, “the girl next door”, had millions of fans around the world, none bigger than charttopping Australian singer-songwriter Melinda Schneider, who has recorded two albums of Doris’ songs, co-written and starred in a theatre show based on Doris’ life, and done sell-out tours celebrating Doris’ work. Melinda Schneider’s, A Farewell To Doris, is a heartfelt tribute to Doris Day. This nostalgic concert celebration will include such timeless hits as Que Sera, Sera, Sentimental Journey, Everybody Loves a Lover, and Secret Love plus classic songs from the movies Calamity Jane, Love Me or Leave Me and The Pajama Game, as well as a number of Doris’ big band standards. Townsville Civic Theatre and C2 offer accessible entrances to all main areas of the venue with easy access facilities for patrons and companions.
We have accessible toilet facilities and parent changing facilities in the foyer of the Townsville Civic Theatre and C2.
The venue features floor level access to the bar and foyer, external and internal ramps located on either side of the foyer to access the auditorium through doors 1 & 2, and an elevator is located next to the TicketShop for additional access to doors 4 & 6. An external ramp is located at the stage door for performers and production staff to enter backstage, and an internal elevator is located backstage for access to all dressing rooms and the orchestra pit. Complimentary loan wheelchairs can also be booked through the TicketShop to assist with travel throughout the building.
Our venues also feature accessible dressing rooms and facilities backstage for our performers and production staff.
Parking Vehicle parking is available either side and rear of the Townsville Civic Theatre for patrons and production staff. Designated disability parking is available in close proximity to the foyer for easy access. A drop-off, pick-up driveway is located at the front of Townsville Civic Theatre for our patrons, located at the flag posts.

Townsville Civic Theatre provides Assisted Listening Infra-Red receivers for the main auditorium only. These can be used with headphones or a neck loop for use in conjunction with your hearing aids (telecoil), with coverage to all seats in the auditorium. Ask our friendly staff to collect a receiver to enhance your experience with us.
Assistance animals are welcome at Townsville Civic Theatre. Please call the TicketShop prior to your visit to let us know how we can best welcome you and your assistance animal.
The foyer area is also equipped with a telecoil hearing loop for announcements and important information prior to entering the auditorium, no receiver required.
Sight Assistance Blue signage with braille is used in the lifts, auditorium doors and backstage areas of the theatre for anyone that is vision impaired.
Relaxed Performances We want everyone to enjoy coming to the Townsville Civic Theatre. Relaxed performances are for everyone who will benefit from a more casual environment. Designed to welcome patrons who experience sensory sensitivity, sound and lighting cues are adjusted to more subtle, low level light in the auditorium and a relaxed attitude to noise during the performance.

E-Tickets
Please show your tickets to the usher at the auditorium door upon entry. If your tickets are on your phone, the usher may ask you to enlarge the ticket image and increase the brightness on your phone so that our scanners can view the bar code.
Companion Card Companion Card holders are eligible for a complimentary companion ticket to most performances. We ask that the card holder call the TicketShop and provide their Companion Card details when making a booking and present the valid ID card to collect their tickets.

Discounted concession ticket prices are available for most productions. Proof of concession must be sighted upon ticket collection. To check your eligibility for each production, contact the TicketShop or visit our website.

Refunds & Exchanges Townsville Civic Theatre follows the Live Performance Australia Ticketing Code of Practice (see liveperformance.com.au for conditions). As such, tickets cannot be refunded after purchase except if an event is cancelled, rescheduled, or significantly relocated as outlined.
Food and Drink in the Auditorium You can now enjoy a cold beverage in the auditorium during a performance. However hot liquids like tea and coffee and food items are still not permitted. Food and drinks are permitted in C2.

Enjoy a selection of fine wines, spirits, light refreshments and something to eat when visiting Townsville Civic Theatre. The bar opens one hour prior to performances, during interval and also offers pre-booked meals through Cuisine To Go. Meals must be booked at least 48 hours before the scheduled performance and will vary with each performance.
The Townsville Civic Theatre is located at 41 Boundary Street, Townsville. Next door to Reid Park and a short stroll away from Palmer Street and the CBD. We are accessible via walking, motor vehicle, bike and bus.
Beat the queue and pre-order your interval drinks. Simply fill out a form at the bar and your drinks will be ready at interval.
Townsville Civic Theatre staff members can assist in booking a taxi upon request. Bike racks are also available on the theatre grounds.
