TheatreiNQ teams up with the Townsville Civic Theatre and the Barrier Reef Orchestra to present, for the very first time in Townsville, Peter Shaffer's masterpiece, AMADEUS.

Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart is a musical genius (just ask him, he’ll tell you!), but in the pompous court of eighteenth-century Vienna, there is only one other man who can see it – a rival composer tortured by his own quest for perfection – Court Composer, Antonio Salieri – and he’ll stop at nothing to destroy him.

Adapted into an Academy Award winning film of the same name, AMADEUS invites the audience to explore one man’s complex relationship with his art, his rivals, and his maker.

Directed by Terri Brabon, AMADEUS features an outstanding cast of Queensland’s finest, including Brendan O’Connor as Salieri, James Raggatt as Mozart and Rachel Nutchey as Contanze.

Experience the challenging dynamic between the seasoned Salieri and the rockstar of the music world, Mozart, in this year’s unmissable theatrical event!

Charlie, Elsa and Fay take you on a musical journey back to 1940's post war Perth. Against a backdrop of curfews, and the fear of arrest for consorting, white and black manage to form their own club. For a night they can forget their worries and experience rare happy times singing, dancing, listening to music, and with a little luck... romance.

Forty years on, as the club faces demolition, our three characters meet once again to stage a musical reunion and protest in an attempt to save their old stomping ground. As the trio reflects upon loves lost and found, old arguments and alliances resurface.

Dark secrets and ghosts that have lingered for more than half a century are revealed, and we discover that reconciliation is more than saying sorry.

Constant vaudevillian asides, snappy musical numbers and genuinely hilarious comedy routines keep the play rolling along at a manic, highly entertaining speed. A landmark production indeed.
