Give T/E

by Rachel Kramer, Director of Sponsorships - Give T/E

GIVE T/E Give T/E was established last March, just before the pandemic, as part of the 100 Who Care Alliance. Their group's mission is to bring women together to support local charities in Tredyffrin and Easttown. At two meetings each year, the group learns about 3 charities which have been picked from a hat of charities nominated by members and select one to receive the GIVE. All members give $100 to that charity, so the selected charity receives about $12,000. (Our current membership is about 125.) So far, we have selected Community Volunteers in Medicine (March 2020), Berwyn Fire Company (September 2020), and FLITE (March 2021.)

Foundation for Learning in Tredyffrin/Easttown Receives Give T/E's Largest Give Yet Matching funds from The Richard M. Schulze Family Foundation Enhance Spring Give Tredyffrin/Easttown, PA. FLITE was selected as the recipient of the Give T/E Spring Give in March and will receive more than $10,000 from members, plus an exciting $5,000 funding match, for a total of $15,000 contributed this spring.

Give T/E is a local organization created based on the model of the International Power of 100-Women Who Care alliance to give Tredyffrin/Easttown women a chance to make a huge charitable impact together in a short time. Each member commits to giving $100 twice a year to a local charity selected by majority vote at a one hour meeting. The group launched in March 2020, just before the pandemic shut down. To date, members have donated nearly $40,000 to local nonprofits. Members give directly to selected charities, allowing for matching gifts and tax deductions. Give T/E sponsors cover the group's operational and meeting costs so that 100% of members' funds go to the charities.

This spring, more than 80 Give T/E members and guests gathered virtually on March 9. The group heard five minute presentations from FLITE, Jenkins Arboretum and Garden, and Breastfeeding Resource Center, and selected FLITE to receive the Spring Give. FLITE president Paige Skelly said, “FLITE is thrilled to receive donations from the GIVE T/E organization. This group of women who care about the local community is a great example of what makes Tredyffrin and Easttown wonderful places to live. Among many other programs, FLITE gives financial awards to college bound graduating seniors in need at Conestoga High School. GIVE T/E's donation has allowed FLITE to expand this important program by increasing the number of awards from two per year to five per year.” At the March 9 meeting, Give T/E members also learned about the impact of their contributions to Berwyn

Fire Company in the fall: BFC purchased new AED machines with Give T/E funds. Thanks to a special matching grant program from The Richard M. Schulze Foundation, FLITE will receive an additional $5,000 on top of the collective donation from Give TE members, bringing the total provided to FLITE to more than $15,000, the largest sum Give T/E has directed toward a local organization to date. Established by Best Buy founder Richard M. Schulze, the Richard M. Schulze Foundation is partnering with the Power of 100Women Who Care alliance to give back to local communities near Best Buy stores. The Foundation has provided more than $1.5 million in matching grants to organizations chosen by Power of 100chapters so far.

Also in 2021, Give T/E has set a goal to increase membership to at least 150 women, so that the group can provide $15,000 to their selected charity for each meeting, outside of any matching funds. Give T/E members are inspired by the opportunity to learn about local nonprofits, meet other local, communityminded women, and make an impact in cooperation with others. Member Ana DaCosta, marketing communications consultant and board president for Montessori Children's House of Valley Forge said: “I'm grateful to be a part of Give T/E because it harnesses the power of community to make a big impact on the local organizations that are meaningful to us in our daily lives.”

In addition to two meetings each year, Give T/E members learn about local nonprofits via social media posts and are kept up to date on opportunities to support local charities by volunteering or contributing. Give T/E hopes to offer networking opportunities for members between meetings in the future. The next Give T/E meeting will be on Wednesday, September 29, 2021.
