3. If the door is not hot, place your foot against the door and open it slightly.

Behind your guest room door, you will find a floor plan of the guest room corridor on which your guest room is locat ed. Please study it carefully and then take a moment to walk this corridor and familiarize yourself with it. Take special notice of the number of doors to reach the exit and which direction to turn, as the corridor may have smoke in it, making it nearly impossible to identify the exit door from any other door in that area. Also note the location of the fire extinguishers, fire alarm pull boxes and the automatic closing fire/smoke doors. Please acquaint yourself with the following procedures. They will help you in the unlikely event of an emergency:

FIRE

6. If you are able, pull the nearest fire alarm box.

2. Feel the door. If it’s hot, don’t open it.

9. If the halls are too smoky, stay in your room. Dial 0 or 8 + 911 to inform emergency personnel you are trapped in your room. a. Fill the bathtub with water; however, never get into the tub. b. Stuff towels in all openings and around all doors. Use wet tissue to insulate small openings. c. Wet down anything that is hot, such as doors and walls. d. Open glass doors only at intervals for fresh air. If smoke becomes dense, stick your head out of the door or window. e. Await help from the fire department.

TORNADO

IF YOU DISCOVER SMOKE OR FIRE:

FOR

PRE-PLAN YOUR ESCAPE ROUTE. Locate and check out both the nearest exit door and the stairwell. Count the guest room doors between your room and the exit. Remember, the balcony may also be used as an exit.

• If damage has occurred, remain away from these areas until they are declared clear by emergency personnel. Keep away from exposed wires.

• If you are caught in your room with no time to get out, go into the bathroom, close the door and sit on the floor or in the tub.

• Avoid windows and doors. Move away from outside walls and stay clear of windows, doors or other glass.

8. Don’t panic! If you see no fire or smoke in the corridor, head to the nearest fire exit and proceed to ground level and out of the building. Once outside, make your way to the 4th level parking area near the flag pole and let a staff person know you are out of the building. Do not re-enter the building if the alarm shuts off. Only re-enter when told by a manager that it is safe to do so.

8

• Stay put until either the threat passes or you are advised that it is all clear.

7. Use exit stairways or fire escapes.

4. Look and smell for smoke and odors. Remember, you may be able to exit the stairwell by crawling. There is always less smoke near the floor.

1. Call the Front Desk immediately.

• Cabin guests are advised to find a low-lying ditch if there is not adequate time to reach the Lodge.

5. Leave your room and close your door.

• Protect your head. Try to take shelter under something strong that can protect your head, like a heavy table or a workbench. At the very least, use your arms and hands to protect your head.

In the event of a tornado, take the following steps immediately: Please do not leave coolers or food on the balconies, in rooms or on the porches in Cabins. Make sure your door is securely shut and locked when you are not in your room. The animals are not afraid to enter the Lodge and are capa ble of opening doors (even on the 3rd level)! YOUR SAFETY SAFETY PROCEDURES

KNOW WHERE YOU PLACED YOUR GUEST ROOM KEY. You will need your key in the event that you wish to re-enter your room during an emergency. Get in the habit of leaving your key in the same place, preferably on the night stand.

• Find Shelter! Go to the basement or a place that is on the lowest level in the middle of the Lodge, like an inte rior hall.

The present impoundment at Salt Fork dates back to 1956, when planning for the lake was begun. The reser voir was originally slated to become a water source for the city of Cambridge, but the potential for the area to become a major recreation area in the state was so great that in 1960 land acquisition was begun to create a state park. The earthen dam was completed in 1967, and in mid-1968 construction of recreational facilities began. The spacious Salt Fork Lodge was opened in May of 1972. 21’ pontoons with 150hp that are equipped to ski or tube boats with 9.9s kayaks with the best seat in the park for close-up enjoyment of the bountiful natural wonders of the lake delivery of our Chef’s famous pizzas, subs and more at Sugartree and concessions at Salt Fork fuel and a line of marine lubricants ever expanding retail line of safety, cleaning and maintenance boating gear MARINA AT 740-439-4009 FORK MARINA AT 740-432-8883 HISTORY

From a hawk’s eyes, the landscape of rural Guernsey County appears as a patchwork of forested hills, open pastures and misty valleys threaded by numerous streams. At the heart of this region is Salt Fork State Park, encompassing the woodlands and fields flanking Salt Fork Historically,Reservoir.this part of southeastern Ohio was one of the first areas of the state settled by the pioneers emigrating westward from the crowded Eastern Seaboard. Some of these settlers may have followed Zane’s Trace into the Ohio wilderness, a route that led a few families into the Guernsey County area. From Zanesville east to the Ohio River, the Trace became part of the National Road, a major east-west transportation route constructed in 1811. Today, the old National Road is known as U.S. Route 40 and passes very near Salt Fork State Park. One of the early residents of Guernsey County, David B. Kennedy, constructed a beautiful stone house overlooking Sugartree Fork in 1837. Built from locally quarried stone cut into 3’ x 1’ x 1’ blocks, the Kennedy Stone House is a sturdy reminder of bygone days. Be cause of its unique and enduring construction, the house is entered into the National Register of Historic Places.

As the 19th century progressed, industry continued to develop in Ohio, and many of the southeastern Ohio counties came into prominence as coal-producing areas. Responding to the demand for this important fuel source, Guernsey County became one of Ohio’s leading coal pro ducers. Abundant reserves of clay allowed the develop ment of a thriving pottery industry in the county as well. The beautiful countryside of southeastern Ohio encouraged the development of recreational resources.
