Message from the Mayor

As we clean up from recent flooding events, I find it incredible to see neighbours helping neighbours and community organizations coming together to lend a hand. As devastating as these events are, it reminds me how proud I am of our thriving community. Everyone comes together in time of need which is why Sussex is called home for so many.

In the coming days, clean up will continue within our town and, as such, the town will have bins out to help with discarded items.

The weeks leading up to the spring season are always unpredictable so always remember to be ready for all weather event types with a 72hour supply of food, water, and essentials to help get you and your family by in the event of such an emergency.

Soon enough spring will be here, and we will all have our reasons to be out and about in our town. In doing so, let’s all continue to help our neighbours and recognize those volunteers and groups that help keep Sussex on the map as a great place to live. You can nominate volunteers to be apart of our annual volunteer reception by visiting www.sussex.ca.

On behalf of Sussex Council and myself, I extend heartfelt wishes for a quick clean up and a wonderful spring season to every family, large and small.

Voyent-Alert!

Staying connected with our residents is important and why Sussex is utilizing Voyent Alert as a tool to keep you informed! Through this alert system, we provide a range of notices that include both major emergency events such as flood risk notices, and day-to-day communications such as road maintenance and closures, water advisories, and other types of notices that are important to know as a community. These enriched alerts contain essential safety information, including outlined maps of affected areas, and direct routes to safety locations.

Voyent Alert keeps you safe, alert, and informed of local events and disruptions that can reduce confusion and help you to make better, more informed decisions. With multiple notification options such as text, call, email, and app notification, you can choose to stay informed how you want to, when you want to.

New Brunswick Building Permits & Dog Tags

Small town, big growth! Sussex continues to see positive change and development!

The steady growth shows promise for continued potential. So far this year, there have been permits issued valued at $6,837,506.00 for renovations, repairs, alterations, and additions to local properties, bettering our community!

Are home renovation projects on your horizon? Property owners and residents looking to perform interior or exterior work, add fencing, a new heat pump, or add a shed to their property will require a permit. Having a building permit ensures the safety of the workers and residents by ensuring that your project meets the requirements of the National Building Code. The fee for a permit is $25.00 for the first $1000 of the estimated project cost, and then an additional $3 for every $1000 thereafter.

Having pets as family members reflects a deep understanding of the emotional, social, and practical roles that pets play in our everyday lives. Having your pet licensed and wearing a tag is an important part of pet care and can help ensure their safety and well-being as well as the safety and well being of other pets in our community. Residents are encouraged to license their dogs and cats by March 31 of each calendar year, to ensure that information is current and correct in the event that a beloved furry friend needs to be reunited with their family.

To register your cat or dog with the Town, you can visit Town Hall and show proof of current immunizations for distemper and rabies. The owners’ contact information, and the pets identifying features will also be requested.

The fee for a dog that is altered (altered meaning Neutered/Spayed) is $11.00/yr, and non-altered dogs are $22.00/yr,. The fee for an altered cat is $6.00/yr, and non-altered is $12.00/yr. This fee includes a pet tag with a tag number unique to your pet.

For more information call Town Office at (506) 432-4540, or refer to the Animal Control By-Law, By-Law #250-11 or Sussex Building By-Law, By-Law #151-23, located on our website Sussex.ca.
