Building Permits & Dog Tags Small town, big growth! Sussex continues to see positive change and development! The steady growth shows promise for continued potential. So far this year, there have been permits issued valued at $6,837,506.00 for renovations, repairs, alterations, and additions to local properties, bettering our community! Are home renovation projects on your horizon? Property owners and residents looking to perform interior or exterior work, add fencing, a new heat pump, or add a shed to their property will require a permit. Having a building permit ensures the safety of the workers and residents by ensuring that your project meets the requirements of the National Building Code. The fee for a permit is $25.00 for the first $1000 of the estimated project cost, and then an additional $3 for every $1000 thereafter. Having pets as family members reflects a deep understanding of the emotional, social, and practical roles that pets play in our everyday lives. Having your pet licensed and wearing a tag is an important part of pet care and can help ensure their safety and well-being as well as the safety and well being of other pets in our community. Residents are encouraged to license their dogs and cats by March 31 of each calendar year, to ensure that information is current and correct in the event that a beloved furry friend needs to be reunited with their family. To register your cat or dog with the Town, you can visit Town Hall and show proof of current immunizations for distemper and rabies. The owners’ contact information, and the pets identifying features will also be requested. The fee for a dog that is altered (altered meaning Neutered/Spayed) is $11.00/yr, and non-altered dogs are $22.00/yr,. The fee for an altered cat is $6.00/yr, and non-altered is $12.00/yr. This fee includes a pet tag with a tag number unique to your pet. Sussex Fire Department It’s one of the best times of the year and your Sussex Fire Department Career and Volunteer members wish you a wonderful holiday season. Here are a couple of ways you can be involved. Keep the Wreath Green – 2023 Fire Prevention Initiative. This December the wreath will return to the front of the fire station full of green lights. We need your help to keep it that way. By using best practices when it comes to lights, extension cords, Christmas trees and cooking safety, you can help minimize risk of an alarm or fire. A residential fire replaces a green light with a red light, so let’s all do our part to keep the WREATH GREEN! Hydrants - During the winter months, storms can produce large accumulations of snow that hide hydrants. With 430 hydrants within Wards 1 and 2, Sussex Fire Department is asking you to consider adopting a hydrant in your neighbourhood by clearing the snow around it (approximately 3 ft.). Volunteering your time in this way is a great way to serve and protect our community especially after large storms. Thank you for partnering with us as we serve and protect.
