YOUTH PROGRAMS DOSCA The Didsbury Out of School Care Association (DOSCA) offers Before and After School Care for children 5-12 years. This licensed program offers a range of age-appropriate activities for attendees and allows children to have fun and meet friends in a safe environment. It is located in the ECS wing of Ross Ford Elementary School. Full day Friday programs, and Christmas and Spring Break camps are offered throughout the year as well. Looking for a fun Volunteer Opportunity? SASS, Students and Seniors Sharing, is an Intergenerational Program sponsored by Didsbury FCSS designed to provide students with the opportunity to volunteer at Aspen Ridge Lodge and Bethany Care Centre. This program runs November to May on Tuesdays from 3:30 - 4:30 pm at Bethany Care Centre and Wednesdays from 3:30 - 4:30 pm at Aspen Ridge Lodge. Community service is becoming increasingly important to junior and senior high school students when applying for scholarships, university entrance, and job applications. Upon completion of the program, documentation of volunteer hours and personal references based upon the student’s individual performance will be available. YOUTH PROGRAMS DIDSBURY PARENT LINK CENTRE Mountain View Parent Link is a FREE program for children aged 0-6. At Mountain View Parent Link, children learn through play. Explore our Didsbury play centre with your children and nurture their development through literacy, songs, art, and play. Mountain View Parent Link offers drop-in play, structured activities, family fun events and parent education. The centre also offers the opportunity for parents to support the development of their children by completing developmental check-ups. Check out our NEW Developmental Screen online at www.mountainviewparentlink.org/check-ups/. Parents have access to the Triple P Parenting Program during centre hours or by appointment. Triple P is proven to reduce parental stress, help parents manage their children’s behaviors and helps parents to support children to get along better with others. WriteArt Book Launch: Local writers have collaborated on a publication of their work - poems and stories interpreted by artist colleagues and art pieces to inspire written word. The works will be on display and some of the contributors will be available. Original works and the book will be available for purchase. “Tell-a-Vision”: Everyone is invited to join in to create our own collaborative illustrated story. Much like the WriteArt project, but done in real time and by all ages. Canadian Historical Brides: Four local writers from this best-selling series will be at the Library from 1:00 pm until 2:00 pm each day to talk about the craft and discipline of writing and specifically about their contributions to this series of books set in all the provinces and territories being published in honor of Canada’s 150th. “Make your own Souvenir”: Create and produce your own unique button to celebrate the Mountain View Arts Festival.

GENERAL INTEREST Didsbury Library (continued)....... Money Matters: A financial literacy program for adult and teen learners developed by ABC Life Literacy Canada with volunteers from TD Bank. We have hosted this program before, to rave reviews. “Money Matters reduces anxiety and increases your confidence in managing money.” Please join us for the next 4 week series on Tuesday evenings at 7:00 pm. September 5, 12, 19, and 26, 2017. Workbooks and trained instruction is provided free of charge thanks to ABC Life Literacy and TD Bank. Plus, the Library is providing a copy of TV Money Advisor, Gail Vaz Oxlade’s “Money Talks: When to say yes and how to say no” for each participant. This program is FREE. Money Matters for Newcomers and New Canadians: Tuesdays, November 21 and 28, this program contains many of the same activities as the core Money Matters program and will be led by the same trained volunteers, but also includes additional information for those who are new to Canada’s banking and credit systems. Death Matters: A bi-monthly gathering on the fourth Thursday of every month from 6:30 pm to 8:30 pm in the Library to discuss issues related to death and dying. Death has become a taboo topic, but talking about death is not morbid nor will it make death arrive faster. Conversations around death and dying reduce fear, clarify misconceptions, provide options and knowledge and enable us to more fully live until we die. Canada 150 Family Reading Challenge. Challenge your Family to read 150 books by Canadian authors by December 2017 to celebrate Canada's 150 Birthday! Pick up your logbook at the Didsbury Library, 2033 19 Avenue, today and start your family on the Canada 150 Reading Challenge. The library not only has logbooks for you to use, but also loads of suggested titles and lists for all ages and interests. We will host a wrap-up party at the end of the year – or early in the New Year at which time all participants logbooks will be entered into a draw for a fabulous family gift basket of Canadian games, books, and gift cards worth $150.00!

JUMPSTART Canadian Tire Jumpstart is a charitable program that helps kids in financial need participate in organized sports and recreation such as soccer, dance, hockey and swimming. Participation in sports and recreation increases a child’s chance of success through a healthier lifestyle, increased self confidence, the opportunity to learn leadership skills and more positive relationships and support networks. Funding is available to children between the ages of 4 and 19. Participation must be in an approved organized sport or recreational activity of the child’s choice, and funding may be applied to cover the costs incurred for registration, equipment or transportation. GENERAL INTEREST Didsbury Library (continued)....... MakerSpace: MakerSpace hours are Thursday, from 4:30 pm to 7:30 pm and Saturdays from 1:30 pm to 4:30 pm. Our MakerSpace is a place for all ages to learn by making. Our tech is only available during the scheduled hours, but the Art Cart is available whenever you want to use it! During our open hours we will set up the Laptop Lab and bring out all sorts of cool stuff for you to tinker with, including our Cubetto and Sphero robots! Keep an eye on the Didsbury Municipal Library Website for more upcoming events and workshops. Coffee and Conversation with the Candidates: Meet those intrepid citizens who are running for our Town Council and ask your questions in a relaxed conversational environment. We’ll put the coffee on, invite all the candidates and you come with your questions, concerns, and encouragement. We will provide two opportunities to do this. Trustees are needed to monitor the public funds entrusted to the Library, plan and come up with strategies for the best future for our Library. Training and Information will be provided. GENERAL INTEREST DIDSBURY NEIGHBORHOOD PLACE Didsbury Neighborhood Place offers a number of services to Didsbury and area residents including: Family and Community Support Services (FCSS), Didsbury Out of School Care Association (DOSCA) and Mountain View ParentLINK. Residents are encouraged to contact or visit Didsbury Neighborhood Place for information on the programs and resources that Didsbury Neighborhood Place offers. These programs and resources offer encouragement, connection and growth for our community and residents. A job board and resource lending library are also available to be accessed by the public.
