Whether you’re looking to play bocce with friends, continue an art class or make memories at summer camp, there are plenty of options to pick from here at the Town.

To help kick off your summer planning, the Recreation Expo & Open House is Saturday, February 7 from 10:00 a.m.1:00 p.m. This is a great opportunity to meet our staff, chat with specialty class instructors and even have the chance to win priority registration for spring classes, aquatics programs and summer camps!

Together, they create a collective narrative that speaks to universal themes of connection, contrast and creativity.

From Valerie Corvin’s vibrant abstracts to Lisa Levine’s surreal digital landscapes, Aligned Again moves fluidly across a spectrum of style and vision. Kim Cardoso’s luminous encaustics engage in quiet dialogue with minimalist forms, while Anne Rabe’s photographs bridge tradition and modernity. Dee Tivenan’s emotive paintings resonate with the textured, mixed-media works of Dobee Snowber uniting abstraction and figuration in unexpected ways.

Aligned Again speaks to the power and the strength of artistic community and the invisible threads that connect us. It invites viewers to find harmony within contrast and to experience the many ways art can tell stories, stir emotions and capture the essence of shared humanity.

Preschool Aquatics Program - Level A Age 3-5Y | Town Staff | See Learn to Swim Details Level A introduces young swimmers to water safety and comfort through fun, instructor-led games and activities. Parents do not participate, and the 1:5 instructor-to-child ratio ensures plenty of guidance. Private swim lessons are 30 minutes long and held Monday-Thursday for one week. Each participant receives personalized instruction based on their skill level and may need to move to an alternate class time if necessary.

Instructors focus on safety, floating and basic stroke movements in a fun, supportive setting. Teens Aquatics & Learn to Swim Camp Danville: Wave Riders Age 9-12Y | Town Staff | $76(R) $92(N) Danville Wave Riders Camp focuses on swim instruction, water safety and physical conditioning to help participants build endurance, strength and confidence in the water. Campers will work on stroke technique, starts, turns and basic water sports skills. To participate, swimmers must demonstrate front crawl, back crawl and elementary backstroke for 100 yards, breaststroke for 50 yards, butterfly for 25 yards, shallow angle dives and tread water for 30 seconds. A swim test will be held on the first day.

Participants who do not pass will be withdrawn for safety.

VolunTEENS: Lifeguard in Training Program

Age 12-14Y | Town Staff Lifeguard in Training (LITs) will develop essential lifeguarding and aquatic teaching skills in this preparatory program. Participants will gain experience leading water games, managing discipline and engaging children during swim lessons, while also learning water safety basics and preparing for future lifeguard training.

To apply, register for the listed “meeting date,” which serves as the interview date. After you register, staff will contact you to schedule your interview time. If selected, LITs must commit to volunteering for two consecutive weeks at one of our pool locations between June 15 and July 30, and they must also attend staff training sessions during the week of June 8 and be prepared to take a swim test. If accepted into the program, there is a fee of $55 for residents and $66 for non-residents. Instructions for registration and payment will be provided upon acceptance.

Aquatics Summer 2026

Adults Aquatics & Learn to Swim Lifeguard Training

Low Impact Fitness

Age 15Y & Up | Town Staff This course is designed to teach students the skills and knowledge needed to prevent and respond to aquatic emergencies. This course will be taught in a blended learning format including a combination of in-person and online training. Students will need access to a computer to complete assignments outside of class. Upon successful completion of all written exams and water skills, this course certifies participants in the American Red Cross Lifeguarding (valid for 2 years), First Aid (valid for 2 years) and CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer (valid for 2 years). Come prepared to swim each class session.

Please note full and complete attendance at all sessions is required to receive your certification. Certifications will be emailed 2-3 business days following the course. If you complete this course successfully, are hired on to the Town of Danville Aquatics Staff for the summer of 2026 and complete a full season of employment with a passing evaluation, you will receive $200 back for your certification.

Age 18Y & Up | Town Staff Low Impact Fitness is a water-based program developed by the Arthritis Foundation for anyone seeking a gentle, joint-friendly workout. This class focuses on improving joint mobility, muscle strength and endurance through low-intensity water exercises.

The natural buoyancy of the water supports movement while providing resistance for a safe and effective workout. Perfect for all fitness levels, this program offers a refreshing way to stay active and feel your best.

Aquatics FAQ's When do I register?

Registration begins for incorporated Danville residents on Tuesday, February 10 at 8:00 AM. Open registration begins Tuesday, February 17 at 8:00 AM.

AQUATICS

How do I register?

Online: Register online by setting up and logging into your account at danville.ca.gov/recguide. We encourage you to set up your account prior to the registration date. This will ensure that you receive the lessons you want quickly. For assistance, please call 925-314-3400.

In Person: Please come into the Danville Community Center at 420 Front Street from Mondays – Thursdays from 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM and Fridays from 8:00 AM – 1:00 PM.

How do I select my child’s class level?

Please refer to Swimming Levels Table with qualifying age and prerequisite skills needed in the order listed. To move to subsequent levels, swimmers must consistently perform all culminating skills. Your child should enroll in the lowest level lesson that they can perform a culminating skill repeatedly. Sometimes, swimmers may need to retake lessons or repeat levels after prolonged periods without practice. Please note that if the wrong swim level is chosen, we will only be able to provide a refund with Town credit only. We also will not be able to accommodate changing the participant to the correct level.

What if my participant cannot pass a swim test?

If your participant cannot pass a swim test, your participant will be asked to withdraw from the course. If you sign your participant up for a level that they do not meet the prerequisite and cannot pass the swim test, you will only be refunded with Town credit.

What happens if my child passes the class, but I registered the child for the same level next session?

If there is space available, your child will be transferred to the correct level. Please contact the Danville Community Center prior to 1:00 PM on Friday to accommodate potential transfers.

Is it possible to make up a class that my child missed due to illness or vacation?

Unfortunately, there will be no make-up classes due to illness or vacation.

I am an adult. Can I take lessons?

Yes! This summer we have a very limited amount of private lessons for ages 3 and up. Please refer to the Swimming Levels Table for prerequisites.

Saturday, February 7, 10:00 AM-1:00 PM Meet Recreation staff and specialty class instructors, visit Recreation facilities and get a head start on your summer planning all in one day.

Full and half-day camps with activities planned by trained Town staff. Each camper belongs to a group of 12-24 kids which rotates through activities throughout the day, such as arts & crafts, outdoor games, playground time, sports, free play, etc. All registered participants will receive an informational email the week prior to the first day of camp. Should your camper need special accommodations, please contact the Danville Community Center at 925-314-3400 at least two weeks prior to the start of camp.

camp Deposit Option The Town of Danville is pleased to offer a camp deposit option for all traditional and enrichment camp registrations. For a $50 deposit fee per child per barcode, you can reserve the weeks of camp you need. The remaining balance will be automatically billed to your credit card 30 days prior to the first day of each camp week. Standard withdrawal and refund policies apply. Available for credit card payments only. A valid credit card will be kept on file.

Lend A Hand Day April 25 Volunteer and help local seniors with yardwork assistance.

Volunteer for a full day from 8:00 AM-1:00 PM or a partial day from 8:00 AM-11:00 AM. Volunteers as young as 12 years old can participate, but need to be accompanied by an adult. We will meet at the Danville Senior Center at 8:00 AM to depart to local seniors' homes to provide volunteer work. If you are registering as a group, please email the group name and members to seniors@danville.ca.gov.

Senior Lunch Program: Mondays at Noon This lunch program is provided in partnership with Contra Costa County and has a suggested contribution of $3 for those 60 and up. Menus are available online at danville.ca.gov/seniors. Participants will be required to fill out a Title IIIC intake form each year.

Withdrawals (Credits/Refunds)

Pre-registration with payment is required for program participation.

Requests for withdrawal will be honored if requested no later than five business days prior to the first day of the activity. There will be a $15 withdrawal fee assessed for each activity.

Americans with Disabilities Act In compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), the Town of Danville encourages those with disabilities to participate in our programs. If you have any special needs that require specific accommodations so you can fully enjoy our classes and programs, call 925-314-3400.

Course Cancellation

A $20 processing fee will be charged for processing refunds made by check. We do not provide cash refunds.

Requests made less than five business days prior to the first day of the activity must be submitted using the online withdrawal form and will be considered on an individual basis. If withdrawal request is approved, there will be a $15 withdrawal fee assessed for each activity.

Withdrawals for sports leagues may be approved if a team can be replaced before the first game.

When registration falls below the minimum enrollment required, it may be necessary to cancel a class or program. At the time of cancellation, the Town will initiate a full refund-minus transaction fee. Check refunds may take 4–6 weeks.

Residency Status Clarification

Photo/Video Liability Disclosure

The program and facility fees cover a large portion of the actual costs, though Town of Danville residents also partially support the classes, events and facilities through their property tax assessments. Because of this, those program participants and individuals reserving Town facilities who live outside of Danville pay an additional non-resident charge. If you have any questions about this information, call 925-314-3400.

Photographs and video may be taken of participants during a class or program, and these photographs and video may be used for Town of Danville publicity purposes.

Rainouts and Class Make-ups Whenever possible, make-ups will be given on those occasions when inclement weather or instructor illness requires that a class be cancelled. See instructor at next scheduled meeting for makeup date. No refunds (whole or partial) can be given for classes missed by the student.

Waitlists Waitlists will be created once a class has reached maximum enrollment. If space becomes available, you will be contacted.

Those living outside the Danville Town limits include residents of the communities of Alamo and Diablo, Alamo Creek, Bettencourt Ranch, Blackhawk, Bryan Ranch, Monterosso, Shadow Creek and Whitegate housing developments.

Special Notice to Alamo Residents: All Alamo residents are eligible to register for Town-sponsored programs scheduled at Hap Magee Ranch Park during the resident registration period.
