■ BREED Brangus are 62.5% Angus and 37.5% Brahman according to By-Laws of the International Brangus Breeders Association. Ultrablacks are registered composite animals with validated and documented lineage that are between 12.5% and 87.5% Brangus breeding. VigorMax™ is a trademarked name by Town Creek Farm to identify animals that are 50% Brahman and 50% Angus. They also are identified as Half-Bloods.TruVigor is a registered Brangus x VigorMax™. Three-Quarter Blood is 25% Angus and 75% Brahman. ■ PERCENT ANGUS Percent Angus (Bos tarus) stated on each lot is the result of DNA testing with Genomic Profiler™ Indicus by Neogen. Results provide a level of certainty of Angus and Brahman percentages to ensure that cattlemen can make desired breeding decisions for their respective cowherds. ■ HETEROSIS-BREED OF ORIGIN Lots 45-90 only. Breed of origin heterozygosity was calculated from the proportion of 100K locations that were heterozygous with one allele from Angus and the other from Brahman. ■ EPDS EPDs are a tool for producing better cattle, however EPDs alone will not produce better cattle. The use of EPDs alone can actually create negative progress in other traits, as there are a multitude of important traits for which there are no EPD values. BW Birth Weight. Predicts size of calf. CED Calving Ease Direct is expressed as a difference in percentage of unassisted births, with a higher value indicating greater calving ease in first-calf heifers. It predicts the average difference in the ease with which a sire's calves will be born when he is bred to first-calf heifers. WW Weaning Weight YW Yearling Weight Milk Milk TM Total Maternal (one-half weaning plus milk) CEM Calving Ease Maternal is expressed in weight as a difference in percentage of unassisted births with higher values indicating greater calving ease in first-calf daughters. It predicts the average ease with which a sire's daughters will calve as first-calf heifers when compared to daughters of other sires. that a cow will have a calf as a two-year-old. STAYABILITY measures the probability that a cow will still be in the herd at six years old. COW WT. Mature Cow Weight EPD is a prediction of the cow’s weight as a five-year-old with adjustments for age and body condition score considered. TI Terminal Index is a function of birth, weaning, and yearling weights, milk, ultrasound, ribeye area and intramuscular fat. FI Fertility Index will be a function of the heifer pregnancy, stayability, mature cow weight, and intramuscular fat, among other fertility measurements. ■ HEIFER BULL Bulls marked heifer bulls (upper right-hand corner of each bull lot) are suitable to use on virgin heifers. ■ POLLED/SCURS Smooth polled or have scurs. ■ GENERATION Generation of animal. ■ INDIVIDUAL BULL PERFORMANCE BIRTH WEIGHT is the actual birth weight of the bull. WEANING WEIGHTS are adjusted to 205 days and YEARLING WEIGHTS are actual weights on ultrasound dates or adjusted to 365 days of age. ■ AGE OF DAM Age of Dam is the age of the bull’s mother (dam) when she calved (with the bull lot being sold). ■ ACTUAL YEAR ULTRASOUND Measurements listed are actual ultrasound measurements taken by Donnie Robertson in March 2020 and November 2019. The measurements are not adjusted for age. FAT (also called fat thickness or backfat) is an external fat measurement in inches taken between the 12th and 13th ribs. IMF Intramuscular fat (IMF) is measured as a percent of fat. Percent IMF is an indicator trait for marbling. REA/CWT Ribeye area per hundredweight is calculated in square inches of ribeye area per 100 lbs. of weight (cwt) at ultrasound. ■ IN-HERD INDEXES Town Creek Farm produces an in-herd analysis of the Town Creek Farm bull offering on adjusted phenotypic data collection points. These numbers represent a validation of the individual animal rankings of the Town Creek Farm bull offering. Ranking is from 0 (lowest) to 1.0 (highest). CE Calving Ease. Average Calving Ease Index of bulls cataloged is .52. (higher index number indicates greater calving ease.) G Growth. Average Growth Index of bulls cataloged is .50. F Fertility. Average Maternal Index of bulls cataloged is .52. CI Carcass. Average Carcass Index of bulls cataloged is .50.
