CP Holiday Train
Peggy Wadsworth Parkes and Esther Kalan Nye: Teaching generations of MoWest children
by Maurice Krystal
We met at Esther Nye’s house. There was a jungle feel to the living room as much of the decor was covered in leopard skin print. Like her setting, Esther is bold and extraverted. Peggy Parkes is quieter and serious. Together they have taught multi generations of MoWesters. continued on page 6
The CP Holiday Train rolled into Town on November 27 for the fifth year. It makes over 100 stops from British Columbia to Quebec and at least as many in the U.S. In 2014, Mayor Masella was instrumental in having it stop here, and our event has been growing every year and that is a good thing, as CP’s destination decisions are based on community participation.

Depot Community Food Centre. Before the train arrived, the crowd was entertained by a mascot and the Royal West Honour Band. Meals-on-Wheels volunteers manned a BBQ, the Girl Guides sold cookies, and the Honour Band sold hot chocolate. Volunteers from the Food Depot and Meals-on-Wheels circulated to collect donations. MoWesters and people from the surrounding area had a good time, and the coffers of both organizations received a welcome boost. The Food Depot and Meals-on-Wheels owe a debt of gratitude to the Town and the Recreation Department. from Sue Sladen
