The Dannevirke ‘Cave Dwellers’ and their ‘Friends of the Cave’ all volunteers, have a fantasy awaiting visitors to Dannevirke. At 60 High Street you will find the most unique fantasy creation in New Zealand. Known as Fantasy Cave it has developed into one of Dannevirke’s landmark tourist attractions since it was first conceived as ‘Santa’s Cave’ for the Christmas of 1989. Over the past 21 years Fantasy Cave has grown to become a maze of walkways and tunnels that guide you past a realistic model train layout of the Southern Hawkes Bay, takes you into a magical world of all your favourite nursery rhymes and fairy tales with animated characters that come to life for the visitor and one of the newest developments is a display of Old MacDonald’s Farm.
