VALE COLIN GRAMP We dedicate the 2021 Barossa Vintage Festival to the late Colin Gramp. Colin was one of the Festival’s ‘founding fathers’ instrumental in convening the first Barossa Vintage Festival in 1947 before serving as Vintage Festival president from 1961 to 1967. An innovator and tireless contributor to the wine industry, Colin will be remembered fondly by many as a true icon and pioneer of the Barossa. Colin always spoke fondly and passionately about his beloved Barossa and the Barossa Vintage Festival, sharing countless memories, stories and moments of years gone by, with generations of community members and visitors alike. This Festival we raise a glass in your honour, Colin and look forward to watching the Festival parade and joining in the celebration, just as you did for many years.

Since its beginnings in 1947, the Barossa Vintage Festival has brought together the Barossa Community and shared with the world our unique stories, traditions, wine, food and generous spirit. As we emerge from such tumultuous times, like that first Vintage Festival celebrating a coming together after the end of World War Two, the 2021 Vintage Festival provides a beacon of hope and of celebration of our community’s resilience. The five-day Barossa Vintage Festival offers a fantastic insight into our Barossa lifestyle, and the opportunity to celebrate this with locals and visitors alike. The 2021 Festival programme is full of Barossa characters, hidden gems, off-the-beaten-track experiences, old favourites and some new events designed specifically for this festival! With more than 70 events on offer, you’ll want to spend some time curating your festival itinerary, to maximise your Barossa experience. Join me as we celebrate Barossa!!

CATHY WILLS

JENNY O’BRIEN

The Barossa Vintage Festival has always been a time of celebration, and a living embodiment of our Barossan community spirit. In 1947 the first Barossa Vintage Festival celebrations occurred on the heels of a world war that had turned the world upside down. In 2021, after another period of global disruption, the Barossa Vintage Festival will provide a time of much-welcome celebration and a sense of joy as we gather together to showcase the best of our region!

This year’s Vintage Festival feels more special than ever given the 12 months the region and our community has faced. We are proud to present such a brilliant and diverse program which is testament to the strength and resilience of our community and businesses.

Regional Tourism Manager, Tourism Barossa

Like the Barossa itself, the Vintage Festival is a marvellous fusion of tradition and innovation – we delight in the telling and re-telling of old stories, and the creation of new narratives. Produce, place, custodianship and creativity are woven together and presented in a kaleidoscope of events, dinners, markets, makers experiences and more – providing an insight into the Barossa way of life. As a child, I remember the anticipation of the festival – watching the Ziegenmarkt appear in all its wonder on the doorstep of our home at Goat Square, the spectacle of the parade, the colourful celebrations at the Tanunda Oval – magical! And today, this festival brings an anticipation of better times, of laughter and fun, and joyful community celebration. My heartfelt thanks go to our Barossa community which again has rallied together to contribute to this important event. In particular, I am grateful for the extraordinary efforts of Festival Director Jenny O’Brien, Taryn Wills and the Festival Committee. Thank you all.

Vintage Festival Director

The 2021 Barossa Vintage Festival offers 75+ opportunities to live like a local and soak up the Barossa way of life. We invite you to come and experience what it’s like to live in one of the best regions in the world; go behind the scenes with some of the region’s top winemakers; secure rare and distinguished wines direct from producers, learn the tricks of the trade with local artisans, slow down and enjoy as renowned chefs present their pick of local produce. The program features the much-loved traditional events such as The Parade, Barossa Scarecrows and Barossa Wine Auction as well as a series of new events designed to showcase an unexpected side of the Barossa. As a region we pride ourselves of being welcoming and accessible and the Festival does just that! I want to personally thank our community and businesses for their care, hard work and being the key ingredient to collectively create the magic that is the Barossa Vintage Festival. So please come and enjoy the 2021 Barossa Vintage Festival and experience what it’s like to live like a local.

20 YEARS OF TIM SMITH WINES

PRESENTED BY 1918 BISTRO & GRILL

PRESENTED BY TIM SMITH WINES

The Festival Parade is the highlight of the Barossa Vintage Festival. The parade will wander past 1918 Bistro & Grill’s lush gardens from approximately 10am.

Tim Smith started out as a roadie for some of Australia’s greatest rock bands before embarking on an extensive career in the wine industry, which culminated in a ‘lightbulb moment’ in France’s Rhône Valley leading to the establishment of Tim Smith Wines in 2001.

To add to the occasion we will have our chefs cooking up breakfast burgers and gourmet sandwiches on the garden grill. Hot coffee and refreshing beverages will be available from the garden bar. Once the parade has passed by live music, garden games, and our cocktail bartenders will be on offer to ensure the party continues well. “We made it! The 2021 Barossa Vintage Festival program.”

In 2021, we’re marking 20 years of Tim Smith Wines with a ‘shed warming’ at Vine Vale. Join us for a classic Barossa long lunch, catered by local chef Stuart Oldfield, with a stellar line-up of TSW museum wines to share. Entertainment guaranteed - who knows, Tim might even jump on the drums!

Interesting markets by local artisans and fundraising groups who support local youth will be showcased for your fun and enjoyment, including food and drinks.

In this Conversation we explore its essence, what role this distinctive food culture has in the Barossa’s sense of place and the connection of its people, and how it has shaped Barossa today. And to challenge our thinking, we invite participants to join our speakers in debating whether culture can be created or it must evolve.

HISTORIC PIPE ORGANS & BELLS TOUR

KEEP CALM & CARRY ON

PRESENTED BY FRIENDS OF THE HILL & SON GRAND ORGAN

PRESENTED BY THE CARL LINDNER COLLECTION

Discover the unique pipe organ and bell heritage of the Barossa, visiting a number of churches throughout the region. There will be a short recital and guide talk at each location.

Described by Enzo Ferrari as ‘The most beautiful car ever made’, the Jaguar E type epitomised the glamour and excitement of the swinging 60s.

Transport between venues is by private car. The Barossa Region is home to a total of 25 pipe organs, found in churches, halls and homes. The earliest was built circa 1840 and the latest in 2011. The contrasting size and sound of the instruments creates a very interesting organ landscape. This tour gives an insight into the Barossa’s pipe organs and bells, their makers and their music.

16 APRIL 1PM - 4PM ADULT $25 CHILD FREE

Celebrating its 60th Anniversary in 2021, the iconic E-Type is celebrated with a British themed event presented by the Carl Lindner Collection of Classic Jaguars. The collections’ colourful array of E-types will take centre stage in this ‘must see’ event for car enthusiasts and lovers of great design alike.
