I am absolutely delighted to welcome our talented athletes, dedicated staff, and supportive families to our first Sports Day at the newly developed Urnfield Sports Ground. We are incredibly fortunate to now have access to a state-of-the-art athletics facility—complete with an outstanding track, dedicated jumping pits, and professionalstandard throwing areas. Hosting Sports Day at our very own venue marks an exciting new chapter for Tormead sport, and we couldn’t be more thrilled to be celebrating here together.

This Sports Day is a wonderful way to cap off an amazing year of athletics. We have witnessed incredible performances, record-breaking achievements, and a continuous display of commitment from our athletes. Most notably, our Y7/8 athletics squad were ranked just outside the top 10 nationally and many will travel to Birmingham tomorrow for the National Prep Athletics Finals.

Outside of athletics, it has been a brilliant year of sport across the entire sports programme. From netball and hockey to gymnastics and cricket, our athletes have demonstrated outstanding talent, teamwork, and dedication.

Sports Day is always a special occasion in the school calendar. It’s a chance for our entire community to come together and celebrate the dedication, perseverance, and achievements of our athletes. This year has been another hugely successful one for sport at Tormead, with more girls than ever before taking part in regular training, fixtures, and competitions. Across a wide range of sports, we’ve seen fantastic progress and brilliant results at county, regional, and national level.

would like to extend my gratitude to the staff for their tireless efforts in coaching and organising, our families for their unwavering support, and the athletes for their enthusiasm and hard work. Today is a celebration of all that we have achieved together.

Let's make this Sports Day memorable. Compete with passion, cheer for your peers, and take pride in your efforts. Together, we make Tormead a vibrant and dynamic community, and today, we celebrate that spirit.

In athletics specifically, we’ve had a particularly exciting season. Two teams have qualified for the ESAA Regional Finals, with hopes of progressing to the Nationals, and many of our Year 7 and 8 athletes have already secured their place at the National Preparatory Schools’ Finals in Birmingham. Athletics at Tormead is thriving—and today we’ll see our highest-calibre athletes take centre stage, while also celebrating the efforts of those who have worked hard in clubs and Games afternoons to develop their confidence and skill.

Above all, Sports Day is about effort, house spirit, and enjoyment. Whether you’re competing, supporting, or helping make the day happen, thank you for being part of it.

Thank you all for being here, and let’s have an incredible day of s port!
