01 Playful Prelude

Academic, Individual Project Year 2, 2022

The project Playful Prelude demonstrates how gentrification and development undermine the local population and its diverse culture, and with that caused a severe split between the locals and the new residents of the area. Throughout this project, I deeply analysed and mapped the area between The Royal Docks, Canning Town and Custom House, to understand and design an intervention that answers to its direct context, yet reaches beyond it.

Playful Prelude aims to alleviate the symptoms of gentrification, meaning it aims to establish a platform for encounters between the people who normally wouldn’t encounter, through the designed programme. These vital everyday-situation encounters will provide opportunities for communication through the aspects of play, family, cuisine and victuals, as these are some of the few areas in life where people from all sorts of backgrounds and places can come together with a shared denominator and agenda.

The proposal focuses on preserving existing views by keeping a low profile, thereby enabling the public to use the green roofs

02 Publica - Various Projects

Professional, Team Projects

2023-2024

Role: Research, site analysis, community engagement sessions, producing maps, diagrams and visualisations, model making.

I was tasked with a range of assignments during my time at Publica. Some of which model making; primary and secondary research, analysis and mapping of sites both at day and night; producing maps and masterplan strategies from gathered data, creating CAD-drawings for small public realm interventions and writing reports.

Two of the more substantial undertakings

were firstly, the creation of an in-depth community facilities audit for the London Borough of Tower Hamlets. This project required meticulous research and investigation to produce relevant and complete pieces of spatial data and recommendations to aid the Borough with future community developments.

Secondly, the Harley Street BID masterplan strategies which entailed extensive site analysis and precise design concepts due to the delicateness of the area we worked in.

The following images are property of Publica and only to be used/viewed fori application processes and interviews. All the works displayed in this chapter have been worked on by myself, within the team.

03 De-Alienating The Home

Freelance, Group Project 2021-2022

Role: Concept design, site analysis, producing finalised drawings, assembly on site.

De-Alienating the Home was a collaborative project between BA students from Central Saint Martins and two associate lecturers and architects, Pati Santos and Gonzalo Herrero. The finalized design was built and displayed in the 8th edition of Concentrico, Logrońo’s International Festival of Architecture and Design in September 2022.

The intervention was built in a narrow alley in central Logrońo and questions the aspect of what is domesticity today and modern co-living, with a clear focus on well-being and ecology. The message this project is

trying to convey is that the inhabitants of domestic spaces should make the spaces their own and set the parameters of the interior spatial qualities themselves. It argues that architects should merely provide a platform for the users to establish their own spaces, based on usage and preference. Furthermore, the project also investigates the way living has changed throughout time, especially in recent years post-covid. The final outcome incorporated Open Form into its design and aimed to serve the local population after the festival.

Images/Drawings created by myself unless stated otherwise.

04 Dialogue In Practic(s)e

Freelance, Group Project 2023-2024

Role: Curation & Graphic Design

What is the future of architectural education? How are the designers of tomorrow being shaped by today’s educators?

Dialogue in Practice was a public exhibition that explored the intricate workings of architectural pedagogy, investigating the complex relationship and synergy between students, tutors and practitioners through a contiguous display of their works. It was pitched,

financed, designed, promoted, curated and run by a collaboration of six BA Architecture Alumni with the assistance of a few tutors and gallery staff.

Besides the physical and digital pieces, workshops, tours, talks and discussions were held revolving around the themes of spatial practice, education and the architecture industry.

The visual identity, posters and other deployed visual material was created by myself for the team.

05 Round-Up House NW1

Academic, Individual Project, Year 01, 2021

Round-Up House NW1 explores how differing groups within our society can live together in one building and enrich their everyday lives by the sharing of key spaces. Throughout this project, I used research and analysis to explore how two young ravers, two creative professionals and a service cleaner could live together comfortably, yet sustainably.

The process and choices I took were guided by a great emphasis on social and environmental sustainability, inclusivity, and mental well-being, as well as a clear awareness

of the direct context and local community, that I tried to incorporate into the design. The building takes its original inspiration from Renaissance architecture but has been brought onto a contemporary stage, considering live constraints and opportunities.

This is further reflected in its circulation, layout and highly sustainable approach, using hempcrete, timber, corrugated hemp fibre panels and corrugated metal for its construction.

06 Artists Amass

Academic, Individual Project

Year 3, 2023

Artists Amass delves into the themes of community, encounters, and mitigating the effects of gentrification. The project proposes a community centre — a hub for the people of Hackney Wick Fish Island (HWFI) — to weave the civic fabric and cultivate social capital. The proposal is grounded in realistic sets of data depicting the challenges, joys, circumstances, and potentials observed throughout the project.

The final proposition is a multi-functional building, jointly managed by the council and artists, situated in the heart of the former industrial, now artist cluster. It aims to provide affordable shared studio spaces for artists while facilitating connections between the artistic community, old and new residents, and local authorities responsible for urban development of HWFI. The ultimate goal is to strengthen the civic fabric and bolster artist resilience.

07 Kontemplasjonsrom

Academic, Individual Project Year 1 Designinstituttet, 2020

Kontemplasjonsrom, or Contemplation Room, is a project that primarily engages with the user’s visual and mental experience of a space. A space, which has the sole purpose to serve as a room for contemplation and relaxation. The location, the simple materiality of reinforced concrete, the monumental scale, distinctive shape and circulation all aid in the process of giving its user the feeling of a blank canvas, which has manifested itself in a plot of nature.

The project is located on a grassy hill looking down onto a river and designed to go into the terrain, making it almost invisible from the top of the hill and thereby preserving the beautiful views from above. The angle of the two axes that create the distinctive triangular shape has been designed according to the rise and fall of the sun, giving the user a sense of time and process spent contemplating, while being shielded from the wind coming from the hilltop.
