We're targeting discrimination in football. Can you help?

We are taking a zero-tolerance approach to discrimination in football. We’re calling on clubs and leagues like your own to report hate, prejudice or discrimination whenever you see it or hear it.

For those people who behave in a racist, sexist or homophobic way, the message is clear. Enough is Enough.

When we know it has happened, we can take the actions needed to remove discriminatory behaviour. We'll be doing so through a range of punishments:

• Players will be removed from play and suspended.

• Teams can have points deducted.

• Grounds can be closed for repeat offenders.

Together we can end hate in football.

Spread the word that discrimination of all forms will be punished. Share with your welfare officers, league and club officials, and everyone across your league and clubs.

We want everyone across grassroots football to know...

Visiting Club History:

Flackwell Heath FC was founded in 1907 and the club joined the High Wycombe and District League for its inaugural season. The Heathens proved to be a major force in local football, winning twelve Wycombe League championship titles and fourteen High Wycombe Senior Challenge Cup finals. In the 1950’s Flackwell joined the Great Western Combination League winning this league twice before returning to the Wycombe League. In 1956 the club moved to its current home, the new ground being donated by the Wilks family. Through the 60's and 70's the club continued their success on and off field and the new clubhouse was built in 1974 as the first stage of their rise into senior football.

In 1975 The Heathens won the Berks and Bucks Intermediate Cup and the Reading Senior Cup. In 1977 the club achieved Senior status and moved up into the Hellenic League Division One. Promotion to the Premier Division was achieved at the first attempt. After five seasons in this league, during which time floodlights were installed at Wilks Park, Flackwell were elected into the Athenian League. In 1984 they joined the expanding Isthmian League. The clubs first season in this competition saw them playing in Division Two (North) and against some tough opposition they finished in a respectable eighth position. The following season Flackwell was switched to Division Two (South) where life turned out to be even tougher.

At the end of season 1990- 91, after finishing below midtable, The Heathens found themselves placed in the newly formed Ryman League Division Three. At this stage the club installed a 150-seater stand to stay in senior football, and new home changing rooms were built to comply with new ground gradings. For the next 10 years the club carried out further ground improvements and they established themselves in senior football. In 2002/03 for the first time in their history Flackwell reached the 4th qualifying round of the FA Cup losing 4-1 at home against Crawley and finished third in the newly formed Ryman League Division Two, the highest position achieved to date. In season 2004/05 The Heathens reached the 4th Qualifying Round of the FA Cup for the second time in three

years, this time losing 3-0 at Ryman Premier Division Billericay Town and were runners-up in the Ryman League Associate Members Cup, losing 2-1 after extra time to Division Two champions Ilford on their own ground.

Flackwell finished fourth in Ryman League Division Two in 2005/06, narrowly missing out on promotion. After the end of 2006/07 the FA reorganised the nonleague pyramid and we were due to be relegated into the South Midlands Spartan League until Barking and East Ham United went out of business, and we were given the opportunity to take their place in the Ryman Division One (North). Unfortunately, we finished bottom of the league and were relegated into the Hellenic Premier Division for season 2008/09.

The 2014/15 season saw us gain promotion into the Southern League Division 1. However, a late move by the Southern League of us from the Central Division into the South West Division meant FHFC were unable to accept promotion and we stayed in the Hellenic League Premier Division for season 2015-16. 2014-15 also saw us with places in the final of the Berks & Bucks Trophy (losing to Windsor FC) and the High Wycombe Senior Challenge Cup (winning against Penn & Tylers Green FC). Earlier that season we reached the fourth qualifying round of the FA Cup losing to Conference side Weston Super-Mare 4-1. For the first time in club history we also reached the last sixteen of the FA Vase losing 3-2 to Shaw Lane Aquaforce.

2015/16 season under the continued management of Graham Malcolm assisted by Paul Shone saw us finish 3rd in the Hellenic League also winning three cup finals – the Berks & Bucks Senior Trophy (against Newport Pagnell FC), the Uhlsport Challenge Cup (against Brackley Town Saints) and the Wycombe Senior Cup (against Pitstone and Ivinghoe FC). After Graham Malcolm's decision to move to Spain, Paul Shone took over the managerial role assisted by Sean Kelleher. Unfortunately, this combination did not work out and in November 2017 they were replaced by Marcus Richardson, formerly of Highmoor Ibis FC, assisted by Fabian Coultress. Marcus had to start rebuilding the team from scratch, bringing in lots of young players and former Youth team players. That season the team finished a respectable 5th, following with 8th position in 2018/19.

The past two seasons have been limited by Covid-19 restrictions with our 2019/20 season finish of 9th, with games in hand, being declared null and void. The past season was similarly curtailed, leaving FHFC top of the Hellenic League having only lost one game. However, FA promotions and restructuring using a

points per game system saw us finishing 4th over the previous two seasons, thereby missing out on promotion for 2021/22. The restructuring has seen us take up a place in the Spartan South Midlands League, Premier Division. This disappointment was tempered by a very successful run in the 2020/21 FA Vase. FHFC reached the Quarter Finals for the 1st time in their history finally losing to US Portsmouth FC 2-0.

Chris Ayres took over the 1st team management mid-way through the 2021-22 season, finishing in 6th place. Last season saw FHFC move yet again, this time to our preferred League, The Cherry Red Records Combined Counties League, North Premier Division winning the Cherry Red Records Premier Challenge Cup 22-23. We remain there for this season 2023-24 with Chris Ayres continuing as manager, assisted by Paul Shone supported by Wycombe legend Keith Ryan. Stacia Murray is our very able physio. 2023/24 was one of the most successful seasons in the clubs history.

The First Team winning the Combined Counties Premier League and gaining promotion to Step 4, to join the Southern League Divison 1 Central. The Development Team, The Allied Counties Team and the Vets all winning their respective League titles.

Match Reports

Leverstock Green 5 vs 0 AFC Dunstable

Leverstock Green added another crucial three points to their total with an impressive win over bottom side AFC Dunstable in Tuesday night’s Southern League Division One Central fixture.

An early goal was vital for the Leverstock side to settle their nerves, and it took just six minutes for them to open the scoring, as Iker Noguera Leon had a shooting chance on the edge of the box and hit a low shot out of the reach of keeper Noah Vaughan into the corner of the net. The second goal was not long arriving, as George Mitchell-Gears fired home a half-volley from just inside the box to notch the first goal of his current spell at the club.

There could have been a third in the 23rd minute as a neat passing move put Leon through on goal, but Vaughan got a hand to his shot to tip it round the post. Five minutes later Radu-Mihai Stefanoaica made a run into the box but his shot from a narrow angle was kept out by Vaughan’s legs. Leon had another shooting chance in the 38th minute but hit it straight at Vaughan.

The young AFC Dunstable side came more into the game in the last ten minutes of the half, and a foul from Olusegun Adedipe gave them a free kick just outside the box, but the shot was saved by Ashton BroomeAlexander.

Leverstock struggled to make any further ground early in the second half, and Broome-Alexander had to make another good save in the 59th minute to keep out a shot from a narrow angle. A double substitution on the hour saw Jack Allen and Luke Beckwith introduced, and added some pep to the Leverstock side.

Broome-Alexander made another crucial save in the 68th minute to punch away a dangerous cross, and within a minute Leverstock had their third goal. Allen hit a shot from the edge of the box which took a deflection off a defender and looped up over Vaughan’s head into the net as the big striker scored his first goal for the club.

Leverstock were playing with more freedom now, and top scorer Jeffrey Sekyere added his name to the scoresheet in the 78th minute, cutting in from the left on a solo run before drilling home a low shot from a narrow angle. There was more to come in the first minute of stoppage time as Allen went on a solo run into the box before firing home his second of the night and completing Leverstock’s biggest ever win in the Southern League.

Leverstock Green 2 vs 1 Marlow

Leverstock Green pulled a further three points away from the relegation zone with a crucial 2-1 win against Marlow in Saturday’s Southern League fixture, their fourth win in the last five games.

Leverstock welcomed back midfielder Ademide Baruwa, who rejoined from Northwood during the week, and after starting on the bench Baruwa was quickly into the action, replacing Marcus Warren, who had an eye injury, in the 17th minute. Another early enforced change saw Joe McCarthy, back from a two-game suspension, having to leave the game injured in the 24th minute to be replaced by Iker Noguera Leon.

The first half saw little in the way of clear-cut chances for either side. Late in the half Marlow won two free kicks in dangerous positions just outside the box, but both of them were hit straight at the wall. In the last minute of the half Radu-Mihai Stefanoaica’s pass gave Carmicheal Uchenna a run at goal, but his shot from a narrow angle was saved by keeper James Sharlott.

Two goals early in the second half put Leverstock in control. In the 49th minute a neat passing move was completed when Uchenna’s pass put Jeffrey Sekyere through on goal, and the club’s top scorer made no mistake, slipping the ball under Sharlott to open the scoring. Another impressive goal came three minutes later. Leon’s pass put Sekyere away down the left channel, and his low cross into the box was met by Stefanoaica to finish from close range for a 2-0 Leverstock lead.

There could have been further goals, with Baruwa having a shot saved by Sharlott in the 63rd minute, and Sekyere dribbling through only to shoot over the bar in the 66th minute.

Marlow had shown little threat to the Leverstock goal, but there was a danger sign in the 79th minute when Sebastian D’Aversa hit a shot just wide. Five minutes later the same player was there on the edge of the box when the ball dropped to him, and finished with a shot into the

corner of the net to pull a goal back and ensure another nervous finish for the Leverstock followers.

The two-goal lead could have been re-established in the 87th minute when Rio Beach broke away and set up Jack Allen, but Allen’s first shot was blocked and his follow-up effort was kept out by Sharlott’s legs.More than eight minutes of stoppage time were played, but as has been the case in recent games, Leverstock held their nerve and were able to get the win over the line.

Leverstock Green (0) 2 (Sekyere 49, Stefanoaica 52)

Leverstock Green 0 vs 2

Hertford Town

Prior to this match Leverstock Green had won their last four home matches, but they were unable to make it five in a row as a disappointing performance saw them go down 2-0 to Hertford Town in Tuesday night’s Southern League fixture. It was a generally scrappy match, with few chances for either side. Leverstock had the game’s first clear chance in the 15th minute when a pass from Carmicheal Uchenna put Jeffrey Sekyere through on goal, but his eventual shot was straight at keeper James Callan. Two minutes later Iker Noguera Leon made a run into the box and hit a rasping shot from a narrow angle, but Callan turned it wide.

Hertford had a great chance to open the scoring in the 40th minute, but a shot from point-blank range was deflected wide of the post off one of their own players. However, within a minute they did find the net, as Marcus Painter found space on the edge of the box to hit a low shot past Ashton Broome-Alexander.

The second half was equally low on quality, with Leverstock being unable to hang onto the ball or do anything with it in the last third of the field. They were still in the game until the 76th minute when Hertford broke away down the right. Zen Cunningham’s cross found Painter, whose shot was saved, but Noah Mosanya bundled the rebound home to put Hertford 2-0 up, a lead that was not threatened in the remaining minutes of the game.

Leighton Town 2 vs 0 Leverstock Green

Leverstock Green came away from their visit to Leighton Town with a second straight 2-0 defeat, but it was an excellent performance against the in-form league leaders, and a competitive encounter.

Leverstock were without top scorer Jeffrey Sekyere and central defender Olusegun Adedipe due to injury, and started with a 5-4-1 formation intended to contain the Leighton side. It worked well initially, with the home side having few chances in the early stages other than a chance in front of goal for BJ Christie in the 4th minute that was blocked by Rio Beach.

Ryan Carruthers had Leverstock’s best effort at goal with a shot from the edge of the box which went just wide in the 13th minute. However in the 17th minute Sydney Ibie got on the wrong side of Dan Casey, and when Casey pulled back the Leighton striker, it was a simple decision for the referee to award a penalty. Ibie took the kick himself, but it was kept out by a brilliant save from Ashton Broome-Alexander. However, the pressure continued. The resulting corner was blocked wide for another corner, and this one found Ibie at the far post to head back across goal for Sam McClelland to net from close range.

There was still only a single goal in it at half time, and the second half was equally competitive. In the 50th minute Ibie got through on goal but was denied again by a superb save from Broome-Alexander. Godlove Oppong almost added a second goal in the 65th minute but his shot from a narrow angle hit the post. A minute later at the other end Carruthers made a run into the box. His shot was blocked and looped up to George MitchellGears, whose header was deflected wide by a defender.

Leverstock were still in the game as it went into stoppage time, but a second goal in the third added minute put it out of their reach. Again it came from a corner as Oppong bundled home from close range.

Leverstock Green 1 vs 1 Enfield F.C.

Leverstock Green could have put themselves 12 points clear of the relegation zone with a win tonight, but they had to settle for a draw against Enfield, which maintains their nine-point gap above the drop zone. It wasn’t a great performance by the Leverstock side, but a point was a reasonable return in a nervy game of high stakes.

It was a bright start for the Green side, with Radu-Mihai Stefanoaica twice getting in behind his defender early on, the second time running on into the box to bring a good save out of visiting keeper George Edgeworth in the 7th minute. However, Leverstock found themselves a goal down in the 16th minute with a rare mistake from keeper Ashton Broome-Alexander, allowing a soft effort from Bradley McClenaghan into the net.

For the next 20 minutes the Leverstock side were struggling to put anything together and didn’t look like getting back into the game. However, in the 39th minute there was more good work from Stefanoaica, who got in behind the defence again and crossed into the six-yard box, where Marcus Warren was on hand to finish from close range for the equaliser.

The goal lifted the Green side, and they might have gone in front before the break. In the 43rd minute Dan Pett’s header from a free kick was deflected wide, and in the goalmouth scramble from the ensuing corner, Stefanoaica had an effort turned round the post by Edgeworth.

The second half was a somewhat scrappy affair with neither side creating much in the way of clear-cut chances. Enfield were unlucky when Kieran Southgate hit the bar with a curling shot in the 82nd minute, but Leverstock should have won the game in stoppage time. A through pass put substitute Iker Noguera Leon through on goal, and Leon took the ball past Edgeworth, but then hit his shot into the side netting.

IN a perfect world, a life-saving defibrillator will hang up on the wall on every sports club or facility in the world and simply gather dust.

Sadly, though, there are occasions when these remarkable bits of kit are brought into use – and they might just save a life!

Take last weekend for example when The NLP became aware of three separate medical emergencies, including one where the life of an assistant referee was saved by a hero team captain Martin Weedon, 73, - an official of more than 40 yearswas running the line for Desborough Town's Spartan South Midlands League Division One Cup semi-final against Belstone when he twice collapsed during the early stages of the game.

The match was immediately abandoned while Mr Weedon was treated on the pitch by Belstone captain Mitchell Swain – a firefighter by day – and the two team physios, Desborough’s Carl Mallett and Alan Dunphy, of Belstone.

The heroics trio deployed the defibrillator kept at the ground to restart his heart and bring him back to life before Mr Weedon was rushed from Desborough’s VPK Stadium to Kettering General Hospital, less than five miles away, to undergo treatment.

"If Desborough hadn't had a defibrillator, Martin would have died 100%,” Mr Weedon’s son-in-law Andy Hobbs told BBC Sport after learning of the incident from Desborough manager Neil Healey.

“It's so important that sports venues of all sizes have them because they save lives."

"Neil called me to say Martin had collapsed and had stopped breathing and they were going to use a defibrillator on him.

"Apparently he collapsed once but tried to carry on. One of the players from the opposing team was worried and

told the referee he didn't like the look of him and within a few seconds, he had fallen again.

"I believe their captain is medically trained and he and the others did an amazing job, they followed the right procedures."

Sadly, Desborough wasn’t the only place to be thrown into an emergency situation last Saturday.

Coventry United also revealed on Sunday that their chairman Raymond Nowack collapsed suddenly after their home United Counties League match with Northampton ON Chenecks.

A statement read: “Thanks to the incredible work of our staff, especially our physio Lucy Stead, as well as assistance from manager Terry Anderson, Serena from the Butts Park Arena, the Northampton physio and assistant referee Kieron Large, plus the speedy response of the ambulance crew, Ray received immediate treatment and was swiftly taken to hospital He has since been released and is now resting at home.”

And there was a further incident nearby, at Midland League Division Three side Leamington Hibernian, where the club revealed that an unnamed player had

suffered a “heart attack” during their game with AFC Balsall.

The Step 8 club said on X: “It is in times like this that put things into perspective and shows the togetherness of the football family in coming together to help and support each other.”

While it is unclear what medical procedures were deployed on the patients at Coventry and Leamington, it only serves as a fitting reminder, if one was ever needed, of the importance of installing a defibrillator at your local club’s facility as a matter of priority and urgency.

In his NLP column last April, Francis Duku, a former Non-League defender and founder of The Sports Circlea movement that aims to make communities healthier using the medium of sports & exercise - told how there are more than 30,000 out-of-hospital cardiac arrests in the UK every year – with a survival rate of less than one in ten.

The Sports Circle are successfully working alongside the JE3 Foundation, set up to honour the legacy of former professional footballer and National League winning manager Justin Edinburgh, who went into

cardiac arrest at his local gym in June 2019 and passed away five days later.

Founder of the JE3 Foundation, Edinburgh’s son Charlie, is leading calls for legislative change on the installation of Automated External Defibrillators within health and sports facilities, while raising awareness of cardiac arrest, delivering CPR training and empowering every person to act fast, with the right skills and access to life-saving resources.

“Early CPR and defibrillation can significantly improve survival chances,” Duku said.

“If something happened near you at a game or just in the street, would you know what to do?

“Through the JE3 Foundation, Justin’s legacy shines brightly.”

The events of Desborough last weekend are certainly testament to that.

A few words about KitAid

KitAid is a charity set up by, Derrick Williams MBE, who visited Tanzania on a WaterAid supporters’ trip in 1998. Derrick, being a mad footie fan, was amazed at the reception he received from children and adults in remote villages just because he was wearing one of his favourite football shirts (he follows Watford, Liverpool and Chesham Utd).

After two weeks in Tanzania, a flame was lit in Derrick’s heart, and he was on a mission to provide kit and equipment to the bare-footed children playing with footballs made of tied string and plastic bags. Twenty-one years on, KitAid has lots of volunteers and to date we’ve sent out 900,000+ kits to children and adults in 55 different countries across the world.

How to donate

If you’d like to support the KitAid cause, the easiest way to donate your unwanted football kit, in order for us to find it a new home.

Alternatively, if you don’t have any unwanted kit, but would still like to support us, we’re very grateful for any donations which will help to fund our annual costs as well as support other partnership charities where possible.

We thank you for all your support.

In working in some of the most under-privileged countries around the world, The Football Association is no stranger to seeing the impact the donation of something as simple as a shirt or a pair of shorts can make. KitAid has brought an enormous amount of pleasure and enjoyment to young and old alike through the gift of football kit and has shared the spirit of British clubs and the England team with communities in all corners of the globe. We are proud to be associated with KitAid and wish them all the best in their endeavours for the years to come.

LEVERSTOCK GREEN | LEVELS RISING

It's been a successful journey for Nat Connolly

The story of Nat Connolly’s rise through the levels to go on to make 100 appearances for Leverstock Green is inspiring.

The all-action midfield general had racked up over a century of appearances for Totternhoe at Step 7 by the age of 21 to earn his chance with Green in the summer of 2023.

His determined displays in the engine room of the side helped the club secure promotion into the Southern League where Connolly has thrived over the past 14 months.

“I remember joining the club and worrying that the jump in level would be too much for me,” he admitted to us. “I’d previously

played all of my football at Step 7, so I didn’t know if I would be able to get to grips with Step 5.

“I joined the club not knowing anyone and feeling that I had a lot to prove, but I was made to feel welcome by everyone straight away and that really helped me to hit the ground running.

“With the help and support of those around me, I knuckled down, worked hard and that first season was really memorable as we secured promotion into the Southern League.

“Then the question is can I do it at Step 4? Last season we managed to achieve our objective of staying at this level and I was pleased with the way in which I adapted to the added demands of this level.

“To have reached 100 appearances in just under two and-a-half seasons means a lot. I am proud to have established myself in the team and I’m really enjoying my football amongst some great people.”

Saturday’s 100th game saw Connolly put in an energetic display in a 1-1 draw at Northwood.

“I felt that I played well,” he added. “I try and base my game on energy and I made sure that I kept the levels high. I tried to get forward a bit more and almost nicked a goal at one point.

“We weren’t happy with our first half performance, but we managed to get a grip of things after the break and deservedly equalised. Sadly, it was too little too late in terms of being able to find a winner and we had to be content with a point in the end.

“We know that we need to start turning some of our draws into wins in order to start climbing the table.

“There have already been a few surprise results this season throughout the division; it’s clear that everyone is capable of beating each other and it’s going to be very competitive once more.

“First and foremost our main aim is to survive, but I believe that we can achieve more and there is no reason why we can't improve upon last season’s finishing position. We’ve got a season’s experience under our belt now and we know that we have to pick up as many points as we can early on to give us a base to build on for the second half of the season.

“We seem to perform well against the better teams, but it’s the games against those teams around us where we need to start picking up more points.

“In terms of personal targets, I just want to keep enjoying my football and continue to play regularly.”

A home game against high-flying Ware is next up for Connolly and his team-mates at the weekend.
