Inspire Arts Background

Inspire Arts exists to ensure any Islander, regardless of circumstances, has access to creative learning in the performing arts.

The presence of fair and equitable opportunities to develop through the arts has been found to be one of the strongest predictors of growth and positive impact for individuals and places across multiple indicators. However, the Island’s most recent arts strategy made it clear that access to the arts in Jersey is exclusive. Opportunities are limited and means-restricted, largely excluding people without financial means or those who lack other types of support and encouragement to participate. The Government, Jersey Charity Commissioner and key stakeholders agree with us that this needs to change.

1/4 of Jersey households live in relative poverty with 1-in-4 children living in relative low-income households. In Jersey, a child’s access to lessons or classes in music, drama or dance -as well as learning materials and resources to support their participation- is dependent on their ability to pay. In the last year, there were 8,000 mental health support requests for children overall and over one third of adults on the Island reported feeling lonely very often.

Inspire Arts uses the power of performing arts to shape positive social outcomes for a diverse community, empowering Islanders to develop their potential, enrich their life and improve their skills, confidence and wellbeing.

What we do

INSPIRE ARTS. Two words at the heart of everything we do. INSPIRE is what we do. ARTS is how we do it.

Who

We deliver performing arts learning and participatory projects that benefit all Islanders, with a focus on children, young people and adults who are facing challenges in their lives, or who are unable to access existing services.

What

We deliver free and subsidised activities, many taking place in supportive, informal, nonintimidating environments or outdoors with open attendance, and in collaboration with community partners from a range of sectors, such as community development, youth services, criminal justice and the health sector.

Why

We want to enable more Islanders, particularly marginalised and vulnerable groups, to experience, participate in and be enriched by inspirational performing arts.

How

Our workshops, lessons, classes, projects, drop-ins, open rehearsals and performance collaborations are delivered by professional artists, facilitators and teachers who are innovative, imaginative specialists in their field. Together, we tailor learning that maximises the power of performing arts to shape positive social outcomes for participants.

M****** & Inspire Arts

PARTNERING to drive inclusion, equality of opportunity and social mobility

Like M******, we acknowledge the disparities of opportunity in Jersey and we agree that there are spaces in which not everyone feels welcome.

Inspire Arts aims to drive forward enduring change whereby people, regardless of circumstances and characteristics, feel and are equal; treated as valuable and worthy of the same investment and opportunities as their peers. We work through inspirational creative learning, but what we really provide is equal access to tools, skills, attributes, attitudes and a creative community that helps support and nourish people in different ways throughout their challenges and lives.

Involvement in the performing arts benefits people in so many ways that have a positive ripple effect throughout other aspects of their lives. The performing arts is often the place that those who feel isolated find their community.

That is why it is important we work together

M******’s support for our programme and our event for the M****** family, embody the spirit of championing inclusion, celebrating diversity and creating opportunities that ensure anyone can achieve their boldest vision for their future...

Deliver ‘Amplify my Voice’ projectempowering the youth voice in Jersey through creativity in performing arts

Launch music and drama learning programmes for children and young people at Bosdet Foundation

Present first Jersey Proms in the Park to raise funds for the charity

First ‘wellbeing’ cohort (pilot project) - arts participation for individuals affected by mental health challenges

Our initiatives will support different groups, although one shared characteristic of the charity’s service users is that they lack the financial means to participate in the arts on a regular basis. M******’s support will enable participants to benefit from individual music lessons and group drama class.

Projects

‘Amplify my Voice’ responds to recent commentary about limited social and cultural opportunities for young people in Jersey and their struggles to find a sense of belonging and purpose. Local and visiting artists will collaborate with young people using their preferred mediums, to create a forum for their self-expression, utilising performing arts as a tool to build their confidence and self-esteem.

We will launch our partnership with Bosdet Foundation for whom we will deliver a programme of learning in music and drama benefitting children and young people from Jersey’s lowest income families. We will expand to other participant groups, beginning with an exciting new initiative for Jersey which aims to maximise benefits of performing arts engagement for individuals affected by poor mental health. We will also raise funds by delivering our signature event Jersey Proms in the Park

Bright lights and Broadway Event

A musical and theatrical homage to the place where dreams are made and outsiders find their tribe...

By special permission of the Bailiff of Jersey, we invite M****** and their guests to experience the pinnacle of achievement in musical theatre, brought to you in the never-before-used reception room in the States Chamber... First Lady of West End musicals Kerry Ellis is normally found on the most hallowed stages under the brightest lights, performing with rock stars like Brian May and in starring roles in hit shows We Will Rock You, My Fair Lady, Les Misérables, Wicked, Oliver! and Cats.

By invitation from our Founders -stars in their own right, Jersey’s own Georgi Mottram and pianist Toni James- Ms Ellis will join them for a sparkling evening of music and theatre. With a little bit of heartbreak, plenty of drama and more than a sprinkle of glitz and glamour, three tour-de-force performers bring the magic of Broadway up close.
