Inspire Arts Two words at the heart of everything we do
Inspire is what we do.
Arts is how we do it.
We deliver performing arts learning and participatory projects that benefit all Islanders, with a focus on children, young people and adults who are facing challenges in their lives, or who are unable to access existing services
We want to enable more Islanders, particularly marginalised and vulnerable groups, to experience, participate in and be enriched by inspirational performing arts
We deliver free and subsidised activities, many taking place in supportive, informal, non-intimidating environments or outdoors with open attendance, and in collaboration with community partners from a range of sectors, such as community development, youth services, criminal justice and the health sector
Our workshops, lessons, classes, projects, drop-ins, open rehearsals and performance collaborations are delivered by professional artists, facilitators and teachers who are innovative, imaginative specialists in their field. Together, we tailor learning that maximises the power of performing arts to shape positive social outcomes for participants

Support for Inspire Arts is support for equal access
Our activities are driven by a belief that everyone in Jersey - regardless of circumstances, age, behaviour, gender, race or disability - should have access to the transformative potential of creative practice in their lives We work in close partnership with organisations on the ground, to deliver learning and participatory projects benefitting Jersey’s most marginalised participants including socioeconomically disadvantaged children, young people and families, persons with disabilities, persons with physical and mental health challenges, imprisoned persons and refugees and displaced persons We also deliver activities in community settings that enable participation by those who may otherwise be excluded
We take responsibility for local needs by using empirical evidence, data and government statistics to help us unambiguously identify underserved groups; areas where provision is poor and engagement in the arts is there low, and where groups are unable to access and benefit from existing services
Support for Inspire Arts is support for quality of life for all in Jersey
Our projects respond to recent data about growing inequality in Jersey Arts and cultural participation have an important role to play in quality of life for Islanders and the reality is that opportunities in the arts in Jersey are “exclusive”, both limited and means-restricted (Government of Jersey Department for Economic Development, Tourism, Sport and Culture, 2022)
Jersey is at a crossroads Government and Consumer Council indices reveal that nearly a quarter of Jersey households are living in relative poverty; more and more Islanders are moving away due to unaffordable living and housing costs at a time when Jersey is trying to attract more people to its workforce; among children, the average scores for anxiety increased between 2018-2021 particularly amongst females; there were 8,000 mental health support requests for children overall in 2021; and young people from materially deprived households were more likely to report low self-esteem, linked with increased rates of self-harm
(An Arts Strategy for Jersey 2022-27, Government of Jersey Department for Economic Development, Tourism, Sport and Culture, 2022)
Because
there isn‘t
a single aspect of human development that is not positively, significantly enriched by engagement with the arts
..
Participation in the arts delivers real, tangible, lifechanging benefits across the lifespan When delivered by professional artists, specialists and facilitators, learning experiences within the performing arts can empower lives, enhance wellbeing, unleash creativity, ignite imaginations, develop confidence, build skills, form relationships and reduce isolation of Island life
“Frequent participation in performing arts predicts higher positive mental health in young adults”
(Block, Wong, Kataoka and Zimmerman, A symphony within, PMID: 34864600)
To ensure our programme of engagement reaches and benefits as many people on the Island as possible, we engage proactively with Jersey organisations outside the arts and education sectors This includes working closely with charities focused on family cohesion, youth support and engagement, social challenges, mental or physical health challenges, learning and development challenges, and adult social care
We tailor our engagement activities to meet the needs of specific groups, delivering learning and participation at a high-level of pedagogical quality We nurture sustained relationships with various organisations and providers in the community, striving to positively, mutually, shape and amplify work of all partners

Projects are designed to meet various needs and support a variety of outcomes but we have a framework that outlines key areas we aim to make positive contributions in
Working with partners across sectors, Inspire Arts delivers inspirational participatory activities in the performing arts that benefit Islanders and Jersey in the following ways:
Arts Inspire JOY - Inspirational projects that uplift people and bring communities together; connecting people across generations and communities, working with all skill levels and through various art forms
Arts Inspire HEALTH - Imaginative projects that improve the well-being of communities; supporting positive mental and physical health outcomes and facilitating participation for those typically excluded due to ill-health
Arts Inspire EQUALITIES - Empowering projects that support accessibility of performing arts for all; helping people not reached or enabled through typical channels discover ways performing arts can have a transformative impact on their lives
Arts Inspire POTENTIAL - Tailored projects that support and amplify learning; positively influencing personal and professional development and educational outcomes across curriculum.
Arts Inspire JÈRRI - Innovative projects that stimulate interest in and learning about Jersey’s language, history, culture and traditions.

We want to support, sustain and grow our activities. The good news is, the activities which enable us do this, are also vital for Jersey’s creative and tourism sectors. We infuse the Island's stunning locales and historic heritage with world-class performing arts, delivering unique, memorable Jersey-originated cultural experiences.
When you buy a ticket or donate to Inspire Arts and receive ticket packages, you support life-changing work through the performing arts - you also experience world-class productions around the Island, curated in partnership with Jersey's breathtaking built and natural environment...
We draw on Jersey's tangible and intangible cultural heritage as a source of inspiration and active partner in creating original cultural products We partner creatively, collaboratively and productively with other organisations in Jersey, including Jersey Heritage, to deliver three main performance projects every year to inspire Islanders and attract visitor footfall from a more vibrant cultural tourism offer:
Jersey Proms in the Park
Jersey International Festival and Fringe Full musical theatre, opera or dramatic production
We also curate smaller performances for fundraising and bespoke purposes, and collaborate with Jersey's other cultural entities
In years past, Fort Regent hosted performances by some of the finest international touring artists of their day, including The Rolling Stones and Ella Fitzgerald. Jersey's performing arts scene welcomed thousands of Islanders and tourists weekly, fuelling employment in the creative sector, as well as tourism, hospitality and business
The current lack of industry-facing professional productions and performances at an impressive large-scale, not only has a cultural cost, but a growing educational, social and economic one
When you support Inspire Arts, you help us deliver the benefits of arts participation for diverse communities in Jersey You also become part of wider action to drive steady growth of a sustainable arts sector for Jersey You help us reengage audiences; build new ones; encourage visitor footfall from cultural tourism to diversify and develop the economy; you support momentum-building around the restoration of existing venues, including Jersey Opera House.
We do not replicate work of any existing organisation. Inspire Arts’ activities offer valuable opportunities for Jersey's arts organisations to combine forces and achieve performing arts at a level of scale and ambition not encountered in Jersey's recent past...

Along with the dominant financial services industry, tourism represents a substantial portion of Jersey's GDP. There are calls across the sector to make Jersey's tourism industry more robust

Inspire Arts is a community too, one that prioritises diverse representation across its activities and governance, including within casting and artistic traditions We strive for more performing arts that represent more people and reach more people.
