“I’m a young designer who aims to help people on designing their dream architecture and translate them into realities.”
tommyjiyi@gmail.com 0406163332
From my experience working as a project architect, working with private urban planner and designers. I’ve found that architecture and urbanism, though distinct in their scopes, are intrinsically linked, functioning as two complementary aspects of the built environment. They represent different scales of design and planning but share a common goal of creating functional, sustainable, and aesthetically pleasing spaces for people. This has made me realised my disadvantages on thinking on a much larger scale. Swinburn, being the only university that offers Post Graduate degrees in both Urban and Architecture, is being very forward thinking to address current market demand. As a current student of Swinburn, my experience with Swinburne research and industry collaborations ensures me that Swinburne is at the forefront of emerging trends and technologies.
Climate Change and Sustainability:
Climate change presents an imminent threat to urban environments and architecture. Rising temperatures, sea levels, and extreme weather conditions demand resilient and sustainable building practices. Architects must innovate to reduce carbon footprints, enhance energy efficiency, and utilize renewable resources. Urban planners face the challenge of creating cities that can withstand these environmental stresses while maintaining livability. Green buildings, sustainable materials, and renewable energy integration will be crucial. The importance of retrofitting existing structures to improve sustainability cannot be overstated.
Urbanization and Housing Affability:
Rapid urbanization will continue to strain housing markets, particularly in mega-cities. Ensuring affordable, high-quality housing will be a persistent challenge. Urban sprawl, the depletion of green spaces, and the need for inclusive, mixed-use developments require innovative planning. Architects and urban planners must focus on creating sustainable, affordable housing solutions that accommodate diverse populations. Strategies like modular construction, co-housing models, and the revitalization of underutilized spaces will be vital in addressing these issues.
Urban Density and Infrastructure:
As Population continue to grow in Australia, cities will face the challenge of accommodating increasing densities while maintaining quality of life. This requires innovative solutions for housing, transportation, and public amenities to avoid issues such as congestion, pollution, and strain on resources. Architects and urban planners must develop strategies for high-density living that maximize space efficiency, enhance livability, and ensure sustainable resource management. Infrastructure needs to be upgraded and expanded to support growing populations, including resilient public transportation systems, advanced waste management, and sustainable water and energy networks. Balancing density with green spaces and recreational areas will be crucial in creating healthy, vibrant urban environments.
The Hayes Residence - In Construction
2.1 Million Dollar 4 Bedroom Double Storey Single House
This project holds a special place in my personal and professional narrative, representing a culmination of my most significant strengths and skills. It stands out as one of the best endeavors I’ve had the privilege to lead from start to building permit issue.
Through this project, I was able to showcase my prowess in design, pushing the boundaries of aesthetic and functionality. I was also in charge of managing consultants and aligning their efforts with the client’s expectations was a crucial aspect, and I excelled in fostering effective collaboration and communication.
Furthermore, the project provided a platform to exhibit my proficiency in rendering, where I brought concepts to documentation with precision. This experience not only bolstered my confidence in my abilities but also reinforced my commitment to delivering excellence in Architecture. Overall, this project is a testament to my capabilities and a significant milestone in my professional journey.
Stage 1:
Created a general build form for 2 storey house and Res-code Setback.
Stage 2:
Remove build forms for secluded private open space, balcony and setback for corner site. Add addtional build forms for addtional facade articulation.
Stage 3:
Revise to skillion roof. Add texture to massing.
Stage 4:
Revise Skillion Roof to balcony.
Addtional flat roof area to Southern facade.
Add window & door opening and window shrouds.
Valued at $2.1 million, is a testament to modern design. The facade is artfully constructed with cool grey thin bricks, lending a sleek and sophisticated appearance. Complementing this, charcoalcolored metal cladding adds a touch of contemporary elegance, seamlessly blending with the grey hues. The roof, a pivotal element of its design, features meticulously laid concrete tiles, which not only enhance durability but also contribute to the structure’s modern aesthetic. The overall design harmoniously balances color, texture, and form, making it a standout example of modern architectural excellence.

EcoVista Student Hub - Capstone
Concept
The design aims address the critical challenges faced by students, particularly international students, in securing affordable and suitable accommodation that supports their mental and physical well-being, academic success, and social integration. By investigating the current inadequacies in student housing and exploring potential solutions, this study seeks to inform the design of purpose-built student accommodations that prioritize affability, accessibility, and the creation of a supportive community environment. The goal is to develop housing solutions that not only meet the basic needs of students but also enhance their overall university experience, considering their diverse backgrounds, financial constraints, and well-being.

Bank Street Reno - In Construction
The Bank Street Reno project was first built in the year 2000 and is located in South Melbourne suburb. The apartment was recently purchased by my client earlier this year who only have just moved to Melbourne form Hong Kong during the Covid – 19 pandemics had quite a limited time for design development and since have started construction.
With the limited budget, client was looking for a set of documentation drawings and renderings for his review and approval for the body corporate. Due to his unfamiliarity of the local construction cost, stages of design to construction, the client’s original idea of a full unit make over was revised to kitchen and bathroom design.
