The project is strategically located within the metropolitan area of Alicante and Elche, equidistant from both cities and directly connected to the A-7 motorway and the international airport of El Altet. The expansion of the complex entails improving the connection with the N-340 road and connecting IFA with Vía Parque, a new fast track that joins Alicante with Elche and other towns in the metropolitan area. In the future, IFA visitors will also be able to use other means of transport, such as the light-rail metro and train, since the line that runs alongside the current site will be extended to make way for the high-speed railway line Madrid-Alicante-Murcia. For the institution, this offers the opportunity of sharing an intermodal station with the airport, which strengthens its possibilities as a services center. In the masterplan, a green space is reserved parallel to the railway line in order to minimize its visual impact and give continuity to other landscaped areas contemplated within the adjacent urban sector. The design includes a bicycle lane and a pedestrian route that will improve urban quality and increase local use of IFA and its surroundings. Overall, the design dedicates 50,000 m2 to gardens and palm groves, giving the ensemble a fully Mediterranean character while generating minimal impact on the territory. The project contemplates the design of new pavilions that will make it possible to increase the exhibition space and capture new events that respond to the needs of Alicante´s business fabric. In addition a conference center, a multifunctional pavilion and a business center will support the trade fair activity. The large outdoor gallery that connects all of these spaces is articulated as a lightweight roof structure that creates a play of shadow and light to mitigate the excess sunlight. As well as organizing the flow of visitors and users, this space could become one more exhibition area within the complex.

The project for the new IFA trade fair enlarges the existing exhibition spaces. The complex is designed as an urban facility which entails the extension of the exhibition pavilions and new facilities such as a multifunctional pavilion, a convention hall, offices, hotels and a business center which allow us to propose a comprehensive fair project near the airport. With the new project, the institution will be among the top ten European trade fair institutions for its size and variety of program, defining a new urban center in Elche, Alicante. The first stage involved the upgrading and redesign of the main access to pavilion 1, the IFA Meet. The existing building has been redesigned, modifying its current layout and creating 12 new meeting rooms with capacity for 20 to 80 people, all equipped with the latest voice and data as well as audiovisual technology and designed for optimum acoustic conditions.

IFA SPEAK IFA SPEAK convention center is a privileged venue for business and dialog between diverse entities and traders. It allows to simultaneously house meetings of different nature and number of persons, guaranteeing VIP accesses to distinguished visitors, while allowing the access of a large number of participants in case of large events or meetings. The Center can house meetings from 20 up to 1,500 people distributed in 18 spaces of different sizes, reaching a total capacity of 2,830 persons. It is one of the major and most modern European complexes, architectural avantgarde reference, an innovative and multipurpose building.

IFA ARENA The multifunctional pavilion IFA ARENA will turn into the neuralgic center of the trade fair. A functional architecture is proposed, projected to facilitate the development of diverse events. A pavilion that can quickly transform and house totally different functions. It is a building whose configuration allows the compatibility of uses such as sports, exhibitions, or events of cultural character. The main characteristics of the new pavilion are the great versatility of uses and the clear, open interior spaces, making possible the global utilization of the building or the separated use of each of the pavilions in the same space and time. The interior is conceived to enjoy the different spaces, allowing visual fluency to the continuity between the interior street, named IFA LINK, and the roof of the IFA ARENA.

The urban character of Feria Valencia creates a constant dialogue with the residents and neighbourhoods of the city. Initially, however, its location posed a number of complex challenges. As the urban growth of the area impeded any further extension of the Fair, creative and bold solutions had to be found. One inconvenience was the busy traffic on the road that crossed the exhibition center. A connection axis with the access motorway is created, using the new underpass as a traffic interchange and the bridges and footbridges over the CV-31 motorway to connect the circulation with the fair complex. This also allows converting the large green plaza into a pedestrian space. The large subterranean car parks acts like an interchange which differentiates between public and private transport, were designed to improve accessibility to the Trade Fair. The new exhibition complex operates on two scales: the urban and the human. Despite the fact that the buildings constructed conform a large volume, a hierarchy was established: an order for access to the Fair that makes it accessible and harmonious with the surrounding urban environment. Feria Valencia is now a friendly environment, eminently pedestrian, around a large landscaped reception plaza, favorable even for family leisure.

The Central Forum is the main access and accreditation building for Feria Valencia. It acts as the interchange for visitors arriving from the tunnel level, underground car park or the pedestrian plaza. It provides access to the exhibition halls and links the various levels with stairs and panoramic lifts. The building has three floors, two below plaza level, and is located on one end of the main street that connects the pavilions. This solution frees level 2 of the large volume of traffic which used to accumulate there, and enables pedestrian access from the plaza. The steel and glass structure makes the top level the visual reference for this new entrance to the installations. At the plaza level, the Central Forum is a double height open-plan space enclosed with a glass and steel façade. This structure rests on the exposed concrete wall that stands in front of the perimeter vehicular road of the pavilion building. The material chosen make the building visually light and distinguishes it from its surrounding environment. The scale of the volume was studied in relation to the dimension of the new pavilions that protrude slightly from behind it. The use of prefabricated façade elements allowed us to construct the building in just two months. To ensure that the Central Forum could receive a large number of visitors, we designed a singular structure with large spans and a height of 22 meters. Four central concrete columns support the floor slabs and roof structure. The façade is supported by a border of arched steel columns. In total, 672 panels of glass are installed on a steel substructure that forms a jagged profile in which the upper pieces are translucent and the lower transparent. The length of each horizontal line varies, respecting the curve of the columns that sustain the façade. The design of the jagged facade profiles responds to controlling direct solar radiation, while optimizing views to the plaza. The translucent panels project shade over the access area, helping to control sunlight levels and temperature inside the space.

The exhibition pavilions represent the pillars of every trade fair. All the other buildings acquire significance in dialogue with them. In the new Feria Valencia the four large pavilions stand out not only for their dimension, but also for their urban integration. Viewed from above, it is striking to observe their harmony and connection with the other buildings of the site, a far cry from the architectural chaos of the past. Each pavilion covers a surface area of 11,000 square meters. The pavilions are organized on various levels –an original solution given that exhibition sites around the world are generally built and extended horizontally rather than vertically. Several configurations of access and control were designed to facilitate the flexibility and versatility of the space. The pavilions can be used simultaneously and be linked to one another when large events are hosted that require as much space as possible. Furthermore, the space on a single level can be divided to host a number of different events simultaneously. The ensemble of pavilions is connected by a central street-gallery, cross-shaped in floor plan, which makes the most of natural sunlight filtered through the roof. The result is a luminous street that organizes and gives access to all services, including restaurants, visitor information, offices, etc. This inviting location naturally fosters exchanges between exhibitors and clients. It is a lively and diverse place where busy and crowded areas alternate with quieter ones suitable for more contemplative and relaxing activities. In contrast, the pavilions are large warehouses, where the lighting is artificial and controlled, converting them into multi-purpose spaces. Only on the upper exhibition level, the roof, a lightweight double-layer spaceframe structure over a single space of 160x72m, allows natural light to filter through ribbon-like skylights. The existence of an exterior perimeter street allows the circulation of large trucks on each exhibition floor level, and direct access to large-size transport.

Feria Valencia was lacking an emblematic building which identified it architectonically and transmitted a message of modernity according to its new philosophy of business center and maximum prestige institutional building. All the buildings in the exhibition site are conceived by these parameters, but this function falls on the Events Center. Access from the large pedestrian plaza occurs through the pointed arch, beginning of the glazed ellipsoid which hovers to the west, above the CV-31 freeway. Once inside, the central space functions as a visitors’ reception area, very open and spectacular because of the height of the vaulted roof. On the lowest level of the Events Center one finds the access to Pavilion 5, where the center is converted into a lobby for a multi-purpose pavilion. From here one can contemplate the scope of the building, its glazed roof at almost 30m height and the upper floors which pour out over the central garden space. Thanks to its large bays and free height, the building can de used to host both conventional trade fair activities and institutional, civic or cultural events.

The building is located on a site adjacent to a protected natural landscape area, el Alto de San Jaime, 70 meters above sea level. It becomes a lighthouse perched over Torrevieja and, to the east and west, the two salt mines, historically a source of wealth for this city with a long maritime legacy. The landscape design intervention aims to equip the Auditorium and the Conservatory with the services needed to obtain high functionality and accessibility, as well as to provide the area with singular free spaces suitable for the building it houses. The landscape design is conditioned by the large amount of existing waste materials on the terrain, heavily concentrated in some areas and much less pronounced in others. That is why earthmoving acquires utmost importance. The adopted general solution is to reduce to the maximum the removal of these waste materials, taking advantage of the land’s condition and distributing the spaces properly. The rest of the plot is a gardened area. This area is divided into plots of morterenca soil, which have been designed to simulate the natural land trying to minimize the removal of waste materials but taking into account the building’s determining slope and the adjacent land. The purpose of these plots is to frame and center the Auditorium in a natural staggered landscape, starting from the highest platform next to the roundabout and gradually going down to the lowest area on the southern limit of the plot. The different platforms of the plots are defined by masonry walls of 70 cm in height irregularly aligned.

The building is located on a site adjacent to a protected natural landscape area, el Alto de San Jaime, 70 meters above sea level. It becomes a lighthouse perched over Torrevieja and, to the east and west, the two salt mines, historically a source of wealth for this city with a long maritime legacy. The project contemplates the insertion of a music center divided into two fundamental areas inside an extensive garden space of 95,665 m². The Auditorium has a symphony hall for 1,450 spectators and a chamber music hall for 385 spectators, comprised in a volume with an elliptical floorplan, 75m x 48m in dimension. A large vestibule wraps around the two halls, adapting to the grade change of the site and creating a transition space between the exterior and interior. It is a permeable and translucent building open to the landscape with a glass façade that allows a visual dialogue between the landscape and the interior. The Conservatory is situated to the northeast of the Auditorium, differentiated volumes that are organized around an axis of communication. Morphologically it follows a similar model to that of a university campus, consisting of a series of dispersed pieces of one and two floor levels connected, both outdoors and indoors, by circulation spaces and gardens.

The project is a multifunctional complex that must become centrality creator and dynamics generator of the area and the whole city of Montevideo. The complex consists of a Trade Fair Pavilion, a convention center and a Multifunctional Arena. Besides the three main buildings the project includes the development of the site, both exhibition outdoor use and and parking areas for the campus, as well as public areas forming green and sports areas. With the intention of creating three separate buildings that can function as a set, have designed three different volumes unified by an enclosing structure. The new multifunctional complex is presented urbanistically as a large scale single piece. Compositionally the three volumes together form an L which embraces a large open plaza that can accommodate some of the outdoors fair activities. The buildings of pure geometric forms are joined by a spatial structure which forms the outer skin of the complex. This would allow the flexibility of simultaneous, singular or joint use. The shell structure has several functions. Besides unify architecturally the three buildings, acts as a large outdoor pergola protects from sun, rain and wind. The power of three simple volumetric contrasts with the large variety of interspaces that are created under that pergola - such as access areas, protected areas, waiting areas and terraces to enjoy and the articulation areas between buildings. The shell is light, transparent and frees sight to the three volumes of bright colors behind it. Large curtains, which hang from the structure and move with the wind, give a feeling of moving architecture. These canvases can have function for advertising. The new multifunctional complex of Montevideo has all the ability to become both an architectural landmark as a major urban facilities serving the city with the power to host any type of public event.

The Caribbean Event Center, Puerta de Oro, wants to be a reflection of the new economic, social and urban dynamic that is presented in the city of Barranquilla. It is a complex aimed at business meetings, cultural, professional, academic, folkloric and fun events, among others. Is projected as the most modern and complete Caribbean Center events, and its design harmoniously integrate the concepts of sustainable construction, energy efficiency, as well as incorporating of new technologies. It proposes the construction of a representative building that offers a unique and effective solution to the various uses required. The cube as first piece, color and vegetation are the three elements that underpin the design. Ventilation and lighting of each of the spaces are secured by a series of different dimensions cubic yards which also allow indoor gardens. It brings together different uses: Convention Centre, Exhibition Centre and Administrative area, with many amenities such as restaurant, cafeteria and lounges. The space generated by the connecting roof is a link that allows global functioning as a single building, as well as an independent and autonomous of each volume. That keeps the different uses but connected and allowing different access points. The warmth of this space, with the soft light, the freshness of the vegetation, the color of the environment, give it a unique character, respond to historic urban gallery model adapted to the specific needs of the buildings, materializing in itself a new collective meeting point.
