TASD PAWS Newsletter 1/27/23

Page 1

Hello TASD Families,

Enjoy this issue of the PAWS offering wonderful highlights of the great things our faculty and students are accomplishing throughout the district, as well as information about upcoming events and activities!

They year is moving along quickly as we close out the month of January and move into February! Now through the month of June you’ll begin to see more information from buildings, boardmeeting actions, and other activities preparing us for the 2023-2024 school year. The board of education has already approved the 2023-2024 school calendars. You may find them on our website. Several of the district’s professional development days when students are not in session focus specifically with ongoing work in the Professional Learning Community (PLC) process. Collaborative teams and Guiding Coalitions at buildings in the district are actively engaged in this important work dedicated to student learning and our commitment to High Quality Student Learning! Every Child! Every Day!

At their January 2nd Board Academy meeting, the Tomah Area School District Board of Education approved an operational referendum resolution for the April 4, 2023, election ballot. During the months of February and March, information regarding the operational referendum will be provided to stakeholders through a variety of methods that include informational material sent to households, presentations at Township and Village meetings, and other opportunities for district stakeholders to learn more. We will keep you updated with these and other informational activities during the next two months.

Thank you for the opportunity to serve your children!

Have a Great Weekend!

- Dr. Hanson

Can Dot conquer her fear of the unknown with some help from the Flair Bears, Mighty Mutant Power Turtles, Beanie Elders, and the all-knowing Mystical 8-ball?”

HAPPENING IN OUR DISTRICT

LOVE’s Family Affiliated fund donated money to go towards a playhouse for the 4K Class.

Tomah High students enjoyed fresh, dry-aged beef burgers from Creamery Creek Farms (Bangor, WI) for hot lunch today. This is a welcomed perk as the district explores opportunities for local Farm-toTable partnerships to incorporate into our school nutrition program. Food Services Director, Jesse Bender, cooked 73 patties on the kitchen flat top and each one was enjoyed by a student (that’s double the typical number of burgers).

THS JAG Initiation and Installation Ceremony. Students were officially sworn in to the program alongside the flourishing THS Career Association. Vice President Ryan Hall and Communications Director Skey Squires prepared speeches alongside Assistant Principal Adams; students and staff enjoyed a meal together afterward.

TMS took 7 Chess & Gaming club members to the Spring Classic tournament, in WI Dells Saturday, January 14th. Students who represented TMS were Aiden Gonzales, Nyomi Grace, Joanna Stryker, Ben Boyles, David Ziemianczyk, Robbie Duehlmeyer, and Gavin Libbey. The team placed 2nd overall. The students are pictured above with Advisor, Renee Stroh.

THS’ Academic Decathlon team participated in Regionals on January 5th and 6th. They placed 3rd in the region and scored 15th best in the state. Tomah’s outstanding performance helped them earn their 4th straight trip to the State Competition in Green Bay in March!

Everyone of Tomah’s competitors won at least one ribbon. Highlights include Katie Andrus winning 2 first place ribbons for Art and Music, Adam Johnson winning first place in the Interview with a perfect score, and Auggie Newman winning first place in Math, Science, and Economics as well as taking the first-place overall score in the region. Way to go, Tomah!
