It was a beautiful day to learn science outside
Excited second graders in the Miller Library are reading from books authored by fourth graders from Ms. Ledvina’s room, and donated to the library for others to enjoy. How awesome!
Third years adventured to the Milwaukee Public Museum, and the first stop was the butterfly room, a true test of patience! They also really enjoyed the Mesozoic exhibit (ie: dinosaurs!) in the Timeline of Life section of the museum.
A big Thank You
to TAMS PTO, for funding this annual curricular trip for third years completing their E1 curriculum. It not only ties together their learning, but is the stuff memories are made of!

Our Kindergarten and 1st grade students recently had the opportunity to have a Career Day and learn about the different options they have in the future work force. Thanks to Assistant Police Chief Eric Pedersen from the Tomah Police Department, Emily Haines a Registered Nurse at Gundersen Health, Nate Waege from Tomah Water Utility, and Dawn Pfaff from Tomah Area Credit Union for being our guest speakers. It was a wonderful experience for both our students and guests!

On April 19, Sophomores attended a full day of instruction and hands-on learning during the Substance Use and Prevention Day, hosted by the Monroe County Safe Community Coalition and the Monroe County Human Services Dept, with presenters from Tomah Health, Next Steps for Change, Dept of Transportation, Tomah Ambulance, and local law enforcement agencies. Students rotated through breakout sessions addressing a variety of topics related to substance abuse, mental health, and distracted driving. The event ended with keynote speaker Melissa Duoss, survivor of a distracted driver accident in High School.

On March 14th, five of Tomah’s Youth Apprenticeship students went to Madison to advocate to legislators for continued funding and support in DWD’s Youth Apprenticeship program. Our students were able to talk to various representatives for the area which included Nancy Vandermeer. Youth Apprenticeship (YA) gives high school juniors and seniors an opportunity to explore their chosen career path, and helps employers develop a qualified and committed workforce. Our students at Tomah are active in YA in the following pathways: Hospitality, Manufacturing, Finance, Agriculture, Marketing, Information Technology, Engineering, Automotive, Construction, and Health Science. Tomah has a very successful YA program and is looking to expand. If your future 11-12th grader is interested in participating in a YA next year, please email Dawn Pierce at dawnpierce@tomah.education.

HAPPENING IN OUR DISTRICT
BIG BAND BASH 203 was a huge success! The fundraising event featured black-tie, dinner, and the smooth sounds of Jazz from our own middle and high school band students. It ended with a generous donation to the Tomah Jazz Bands fund, in the amount of $8,400! Tomah Bands extended their sincere gratitude to the students, their families, and the community for helping to create such an amazing event. “We are thrilled with how the first annual Big Band Bash turned out and we hope that all who attended were also pleased with the evening’s festivities! In an effort to showcase our thriving jazz programs to our Tomah community, we were able to collaborate with Tyson and Julia Koput, owner/operators of TAPHOUSE TWENTY to put on a night of music, food, laughter, and just plain FUN!”
