College of Engineering (CEN) has proven once again that they are the home of the champions as they sealed the grand slam win in the Hip-hop competition under this year’s Tertiary Literary-Musical Contests, held at the University Gymnasium, Nov. 18.

“It is overwhelming since it is our grand slam win, there were great expectations of us since our college’s cheerdance also achieved their grand slam win,” third-year Civil Engineering student and one of the participants Roldan Moreno shared.

Moreno also said that they had faced many problems during their

preparation for the contest, but they rose up to the challenge and expressed their emotions through dancing. The gymnasium was filled with orange synergy and roars of support as the participants danced to the theme of the ‘IT’ movie.

A bubbly comeback of spirits awakened as the UNO-Rians sang the night away under the foamy suds at the Music Fest and Foam Party event spearheaded by the University of Negros OccidentalRecoletos Supreme Student Government (UNORSSGO) at the University Amphitheatre, Nov. 18.

Moreover, the College of Accountancy, Business, and Computer Studies finished as the first runner-up, while the College of Allied Medical Health Sciences came second runner-up during the competition.

“This (foam party) is to remind UNO-Rians that fun is still with them despite the nearing end and as well to emphasize togetherness,” UNORSSGO Legislative Representative Chrismel Ray Tabujara said.

In addition, Tabujara highlighted that it is an avenue for UNORHYTHM’s new bands to showcase their talents after their last weeks of auditioning.

“I would like to extend my gratitude to the school for having this event happen. This became a medium for expressing the stress I carried during the entire week,” second-year education student Denver Fernandez said. During the event, only university students were permitted to enter the campus and were guarded by staff.

Tigers nab win in MTV contest by DANICA ROSE QUINDAP

Emblazoning the spectacular production on stage, the College of Engineering (CEN) students nabbed the championship title in the MTV group competition at University Gymnasium, Nov. 18. “I felt lit, extravagant, and triumphant in bagging the award. I’m beyond happy after the performance, for I ate and left no crumbs, and gave a good show,” one of the participants Keir Bolero said. Bolero emphasized that despite the demanding schedule and uncertainty, they were still able to deliver a stellar performance and clinch the title.

Debbie Mahinay, one of the judges, expressed his thoughts on her evaluation and comments to the performers. “Their creativity in performing amazed me; the way they perform and impersonate their given characters and production was perfect,” Mahinay said.

Furthermore, the College of Arts and Sciences and the College of Accountancy, Business, and Computer Studies (CABACS) ranked first and second runnersup, respectively.

The MTV group competition was part of the Tertiary Literary Musical Contest, wherein its objective was to allow contestants to make a façade of their preferred broadcasted pop music videos and programs.

COM leads acoustic jamming by ANNE TRICIA OLMILLO

Children of Mary (COM) members shared the mic with students and visitors in an acoustic jamming session held at the Children of Mary – Vincentian Marian Youth (COM-VMY) – UNO-R unit’s office, November 18. With the theme: “Ang Paggunita ng Ating Kahapon,” a series of impromptu performances played in guitar and piano accompaniment, amplified the sing-along jam as they sang their hearts out and expressed their thoughts on past experiences and learnings in life.

“This session is open for all students and visitors regardless of religion to build relationships, spend time for fun, and unwind from stress,” COM-VMY-UNO-R unit President Rynne Joy Arca said.

COM-VMY National President Engr. Erl Julen Tulod, CE, an alumnus of the university and former president of the youth organization, joined the jamming session and shared the importance of the members’ inclination to music in their service in the church as choir members and musicians. “I am happy because there is continuity of legacies in the association, regardless of what activities they conduct as long as the aim and mission remain,” Engr. Tulod said.

Moreover, a box for intentions was displayed after the activity wherein members and invitees were encouraged to write their goals or worries as part of their service in the religious organization.

CEN reps bag Celebrity Trio by KEZIAH PATRICE JOCSON

Oozing with swag and energy, the College of Engineering (CEN) took the spotlight in the Celebrity Trio category during the Literary Musical Contest held at the University Gymnasium, Nov. 18. The CEN trio is composed of faculty members Engr. Aldwin John Hablo, ME, Engr. Mark Edwin Jereza, CE, RMP, MEng, and thirdyear Mechanical Engineering student Earnest Vienne Yap. “We did not really expect to win this category, all we thought of while performing is to enjoy the show,” Engr. Hablo said.

Engr. Hablo added that, though they only had a week to prepare, he was really blessed to represent and win on behalf of their college.

Furthermore, the trios from the College of Medical Health Sciences (CAMHS) and the College of Accounting, Business, and Computer Studies (CABACS) claimed first and second runner-up, respectively. “Even though our team did not end up as champion, I still feel overwhelmed and happy by the greetings and compliments of the people,” third-year Medical Technology student and Celebrity Trio first placer Jan Ivann Pabalinas said.

In this category, the trio should consist of two faculty members and a student and could perform any talent of their choice within the three to five minutes allotted for them.

Tigers dominate LITMUS 2022 by NICOLE BUCAYANI Achieving their all-time glory, the College of Engineering (CEN) secured the U-Week 2022 Tertiary Literary Musical (LITMUS) overall champion title, held at the University Gymnasium, Nov. 18.

“I am proud to tell the whole university that we [the College of Engineering] are the home of champions because our college can excel not only in academics but also in these activities,” CEN Dean Engr. Christopher Taclobos, ME, MENgME said. Dean Taclobos also thanked the Engineering Council for all the work they had done to get ready for the event. For the morning portion, CAS earned the title of champion in the spoken word poetry category.

CABACS dominated the oration competition, followed by CAS as the first runner-up and CAMHS as the second runner-up. Also, CAS won the impromptu speaking category, with CEN and

CABACS as the first and second runnersup, respectively. In addition, CEN was the winner of the College Teaser Contest, followed by COED as the first runner-up and CABACS as the second runner-up.

On the other hand, COED songbird, Stephannie Cliff Garcia received the championship title for the Vocal Solo competition. Moreover, CABACS raised their flags as champions of the vocal duet competition.

Still undefeated, CEN carried on its legacy as the all-time hip-hop champion Once again, CEN flaunted their skills as the champion of the MTV category, with CAS and CABACS as the first and second runners-up, respectively. In addition, CEN also topped the Celebrity Trio, followed by CAMHS as the first runner-up and CABACS as the second runner-up.

Ingenuity and expertise were demonstrated by students’ from different colleges in an artistic battle during the UNO-aRts events organized by the University of Negros Occidental-Recoletos Supreme Students Government (UNORSSGO) held at the University Main Lobby, and Auditorium, Nov. 18. “There are many talented UNORians, but they are never given a chance to shine. Through this [UNOarts] event, everyone will appreciate the art in all aspects,” UNORSSGO Secretary for External Affairs Rexxur Andrei Beleber said. UNO-aRts included a tie-dye activity that exemplifies student’s aptitude in tying tightly small sections of shirts with string to produce colored patterns in the fabric.

“[Tie-dye] allows me to express my personality and incorporate art into

my clothing, enabling me to show who I am as a person,” one of the participants of tie-dye Shannon Marie Libo-on said.

The event started with the morning activities: Fruit Carving, Tie-Dye, Calligraphy, Online Logo Making, and Dish Gardening.

The winners of the morning activities are John Miller Pepito, Ezrah Sobremesana, Liezel Mae Cezar, Excel Ray Morale, and Joel Agdana with his assistant Rolan Baliguat, respectively.

UNO-aRts is an event that serves as a channel for UNORSSGO to identify students with artistic talent, allowing students to express their emotions by creating a diverse range of masterpieces. The announcement of winners for UNO-aRts event in the afternoon will push through tomorrow at the University Amphitheater, Nov. 19.
