UNO-R @60: TOGETHER TO NEW HEIGHTS
BEST AMONG THE REST
SHS bet takes home MS. UNO-R crown by KRISHA DANIELLE RONZALES
Bejeweled SHS belle Zoe Clarisse Limson sashayed her way onto victory as she was crowned during the pageant’s Coronation Night at the University Gymnasium, Nov. 15. “Preparing for this pageant took a lot of push and motivation since I was very busy [because] I was bombarded with student responsibilities,” Limson shared. During the pageant period, she shared that her advocacy was youth empowerment.
“I hope that this crown I’m wearing will not only bring glory to myself but also uplift, empower, and acknowledge all the people that I represent and the thoughts and the ideas they think are beneficial to the society,” Limson added. Amity Youth Volunteers hold rappelling demonstration by LIXIE IMEE SORIANO
Fueled with thrill and excitement, Amity Youth Vo l u n t e e r s - R e c o l e t o s organized a rappelling activity that demonstrated ropedescending skills and balance amongst the members of AYV-R and interested students held at the La Consolacion Building, Nov. 15. “This activity serves as a meaningful learning opportunity to students because it encourages students to take risks and try new things, particularly those that scare them the most,” AYV-R President Shanna Mae Castro said.
The activity was made possible with the assistance of the Amity Volunteer Fire Brigade (AVFB) which ensured the safety of the students and the AYV-R members.
“The members of AYV-R can now put what they learned from our refresher training into practice thanks to this activity,” Castro added. Participants of the said activity also expressed how they enjoyed and had fun rappelling in a building despite the heights. “Since I was a member of Amity Youth, I’m glad that this activity will be known to the students and ignite their interest in joining the AVFB to assist more people in need,” Emergency Medical Technician - Basic (EMT-B) Melkaye Shane Gallardo said.
Moreover, the rappelling activity gives AYV-R a chance to promote itself and become known outside the campus community.

College of Arts and Sciences (CAS) candidate Ynah Tessandra Talisay and College of Engineering (CEN) representative Joyce Anne Cepeda were crowned first and second runners-up, respectively.
CEN belle Cepeda won the students’ hearts as she clinched the People’s Choice award, while Best in Advocacy award was taken home by CAS belle Talisay. Talisay shared that since she won Best in Advocacy, she wants to start “Babae Tayo”, an organization that aims to support women.
“This would be a safe space for women. It’s not exclusive to women, it is open for everyone, but the goal is to empower [because that is what] “Babae Tayo” is all about,” Talisay shared.
Furthermore, Limson, as the newly crowned Miss UNO-R, will receive a 100% scholarship for the second semester, whereas Talisay and Cepeda, as first and second runners-up, will obtain 50% and 25% scholarships, respectively.
