Daffodil Day Fundraiser
A big thank you to the students and whanau for making the Daffodil Day fundraiser a great success!
There was a sea of yellow and bunches of daffodils dotted around, and we managed to raise over $280 for the Cancer Society. Great effort!!

Student Attendance
One of the things we are continuing to focus on this term is student attendance. We will be monitoring student attendance carefully and contacting caregivers if we have concerns. All students are legally required to attend school every day and it is a shared responsibility to make sure students attend and engage in learning from when they first start school.
We ask that you let the school know if your child is going to be absent or intends to be absent for a portion of the school term for whatever reason, like a tangi or medical procedure.
Family holidays or taking time off for extracurricular activities (not organised by school) are not acceptable reasons for being absent.
We know that winter has certainly brought its cold mornings and a host of winter bugs and colds. Knowing if your child is well enough to go to school can be tricky at times. Health New Zealand | Te Whatu Ora have refreshed their guidance for schools and parents to use to help make that call. Check out the Ministry of Education or Te Whata Ora websites for more information. If you are still unsure, get in touch with us. https://info.health.nz/pregnancy-children/childhoodconditions/ https://parents.education.govt.nz/essential-information/

SCHOOL MISSION: Inspiring Excellence in Education, in Character and in Life.
We have had another very successful week at school. In assembly this week we recognised the accomplishments of our students through the ‘Star of the Month’ awards, which is a new initiative from the PB4L (Positive Behaviour for Learning) group.
We also awarded Micaela Laing her certificate in the NZQA Skills for Living. Micaela is the first student in our school to attain this qualification and we are very proud of her achievement.
CACTUS Programme 2024
We are very excited to announce that Project Bruce will be running the Cactus Programme in Milton next term. In assembly this week Kim Schiller and Stephanie Daniel from Project Bruce introduced the programme and the trainer, Kaz, to our students. The Cactus (Combined Adolescent Challenge Training Unit and Support) Programme is a seven week programme that aims to develop self esteem and confidence as well as building fitness. Students will attend a bootcamp style session three mornings a week at 6.30am before having breakfast and then heading to school. There will also be motivational speakers as part of the programme. The Cactus Programme has been highly successful around many other parts of the country. The programme is open for all year 8 to 13 students and application forms are available at the school office, The Tokomairiro Hub or by emailing greenbrucecommunities@gmail.com

This week our senior Netball team is participating in the South Island winter tournament week so the vouchers have already been very beneficial to our kura.

What’s happening in Digitech?
This term senior digitech students are studying hard for the upcoming exams, but all work-no play makes for an unfun day! Junior students have been busy studying the inner workings of a computer in preparation for an exam of their own - taking apart and putting together a full computer system! Some students have already tried their hand at disassembling and rebuilding a computer system - next step? Getting it fully working! Exciting times for all the students in the digital technologies department!

Farewelling Dr Jerry
We are very sad that Dr Jerry Hsu is leaving Milton Medical Centre, finishing on 9th September. Dr Jerry has been with us for several years and has become well known for his kind, caring, consistent manner with his patients. We wish Jerry all the very best for his future.
We have been actively searching for a GP to join us on site since Dr Bungard left in 2023 and to date have been unsuccessful. We are not isolated in this with the wellpublicised GP shortage affecting practices all over Aotearoa, and in particular rural practices.
Going forward we have our Nurse Practitioner, Lorna, and regular TeleHealth GPs, supported by our nursing team. Lorna will see patients who require a face-to-face appointment and if you are not needing a physical/ hands-on examination you will be offered an appointment with a TeleHealth GP for a video consultation.
Many illnesses or conditions can be taken care of through a video consultation with a GP. Telehealth is helpful in coordinating follow-up care like specialist treatment referrals (such as physiotherapy) or test referrals. TeleHealth consults are also suitable for prescription renewals, medication changes and reviews, consultations for off-work certificates and reviewing ongoing conditions. Please discuss with reception or a nurse as to whether a TeleHealth consult is suitable for you.
Despite some patients having concerns that a doctor might need to see them in person to correctly diagnose and treat, in most situations, ‘seeing’ the patient video, alongside their patient history and a good conversation is enough to ensure accurate treatment is possible.
Thank you to all our patients for supporting Milton Medical Centre through this period of change as we move into a different way of working for the foreseeable future. We appreciate your understanding and support.

News from the Trenches...
Welcome to September and the start of Spring with hopefully warmer temperatures. September also constitutes the commencement of white bait season and I know plenty of RSA members have been looking forward to catching this delicacy. So far on opening day I haven't heard of any incidents but it was brought to my attention a father and son combo had an engine incident on their boat as they were getting set up. Something about water coming in but not going out which is not ideal. I'm sure by next week this column will be full of tales of people going for unplanned swims. Also coming up shortly we will have our seed potatoes available to be purchased for our unmatched Spud Dig which is one of our major highlights. So keep an eye out for those.
Our pick the scores jackpot has shot up to $370 without being struck although there were some very close entries. Also we have our Corporate Box raffle going on for the next home AB test. I should also mention our NPC Tipping Comp steaming ahead with what appeared absolute carnage for those picks this week.
We are currently looking for volunteers to assist with driving our courtesy van on mainly Friday night so if you can assist let the bar staff now. Perfect opportunity to find the gossip before me
Finally as you well know this column prides itself on FACTS and public safety. So when you are attending a public occasion make sure that the kilt you are wearing is properly attached before venturing out. I also noticed this same gentleman having his own harem of beautiful women the next night. Surely the two incidents aren't connected. As you see I only report on what I see. -Private Spike Pike

The last championship games, the Alex Philip Fours were played at the Milton Bowling Club recently. One team from each club played.
Game one saw Moneymore’s Alistair Allison, Elizabeth Read, Stephen and Bronwyn Woodhead beat Steve Mary’s Graeme Thompson, Alex Benington, Rachel Fegan, Phil Scott 8-6, and Glenledi’s Graeme Hill, Allan Philip Russell and Lynne Copland beat Milton Country Clubs Peter Grant, Ray Low, Dave Findlay and Jan Low 9-5.
In the 2nd game Glenledi beat Moneymore 5-3 and the Country Club beat Steve Mary’s 7-3. The 3rd game saw Glenledi have a bye and the Country Club beat Moneymore 5-4. In what ended up as the final Glenledi put paid to any hopes Milton Country Club had when they won still having two lives intact.
