he Navicelli Channel is a waterway running alongside the Natural Park of San Rossore, Migliarino and Massaciuccoli; the opposite bank, where the locally-produced yachts are docked in a visible spot, is occupied by the shipyard. The forthcoming opening of the ancient connection between the Navicelli Channel and the intake of the River Arno will bring about the completion of the Pisan navigable circuit, which is expected to make it possible to reach the urban center by water. As part of a collaboration with the Cooperative known as “Il Navicello”, from 2011 the service “by boat through the channel” has been made available for the public. From 2014, all those interested among cruise ship passengers stopping off at Livorno harbor have also had the opportunity to join especially organized minitours, allowing for them to land at Pisa dock after a pleasant boat trip. Every year, the channel hosts the renowned Navicelli Rowing Marathon, which is receiving an increasingly wider response on the part of athletes from 96 | Pisa Magazine

all over Italy. In addition to the course being almost entirely linear, the nearby cycle lane – paralleling the waterway for an approximate length of over half a mile – allows for both audience and coaches to follow the race in all of its phases while enjoying the surrounding natural landscape.
