In this transformational role you’ll be responsible for creating, developing and delivering schemes and projects to help us achieve our ambition, and you’ll also encourage initiatives in our communities and within partner organisations to help reduce carbon emissions through collaboration and innovation. We are looking for someone who can genuinely think globally and act locally. Someone who understands the science of climate change and can translate this understanding into local action that will reduce our carbon footprint. You’ll be expected to have proven experience of tackling the impact of the global climate crisis and be well versed in the challenges and able to bring your knowledge and skills to challenge existing ideas and practices within our organisation and local communities to make way for influencing improvements. We want a leader who is passionate and an excellent communicator capable of engaging with a wide range of stakeholders, capturing views and incorporating them into strategy and policy. The role will operate through Service champions and engage in matrix style management to deliver projects. The successful applicant will report directly to the Chief Executive, be a member of the Council’s Strategic Management Team and work closely with Portfolio Holders and elected members. INDEPENDENT CHAIR £550 per day including travel expenses, pro rata The Sunderland Safeguarding Adults Board (SSAB) was established in response to the requirements of the Care Act 2014 and brought together key organisations and partners to safeguard and promote the well-being and independence of adults living in Sunderland. The Sunderland Safeguarding Adults Board is seeking to recruit an Independent Chair to provide leadership and strategic vision, and to build on and enhance the current strong partnership arrangements to support the SSAB in fulfilling its functions and strategic priorities. The role of Independent Chair requires an outstanding individual with enthusiasm, commitment and determination to drive forward the adult safeguarding agenda in Sunderland. The successful candidate will have experience of leading and managing in a large public, independent or voluntary sector organisation at a senior level, proven experience of chairing complex partnership meetings and have extensive knowledge and experience of applying the legislation and guidance in relation to safeguarding adults. They will ensure that the SSAB operates effectively to deliver its key objectives and functions as set out in the Care Act (2014). The appointment will be for 2 years, subject to review at 6 months and annual appraisals.
