THE ART AND SCIENCE OF CARNIVOROUS PLANTS By Erica Smith Continuing the tradition of blending culture and nature, Bok Tower Gardens will premiere this summer Trapped: The Exhibit. Visitors will explore the world of carnivorous plants with larger-than-life sculptures created by Central Florida artist Rick Sgrillo and a living display of pitcher plants, sundews, and more on display in the Wild Garden. Dedicated to illustrating the importance of natural Florida biodiversity, the Wild Garden is divided into four unique landscapes. The Trapped exhibit will be housed in the Boardwalk area that features a wetland prairie 8

and bog habitats. The exhibit includes sculptures of a Venus Fly Trap, Tropical Nepenthes, a grouping of Pitcher Plants, and a magnificent Sundew. The artist has used both metal and glass to create these colossal creations. Several educational opportunities for families will be available on Saturday mornings, along with guest lecturers and garden walks. The exhibit is included in general admission. Visit boktowergardens.org for a complete schedule of events. THE CURIOUS NATURE OF CARNIVOROUS PLANTS

Charles Darwin studied these curious plants in the late 1800s, and the classification of carnivorous plants includes at least 583 species

that attract, trap, and kill prey. The insectivorous (carnivorous) plants are representatives of the Kingdom Plantae, the Division Magnoliophyta, are located in both Classes Magnoliopsida and Liliopsida, span 6 Orders, 9 Families, and 595 species. Carnivorous plants have adapted to grow in places where the soil is thin or weak in nutrients, especially nitrogen, such as acidic bogs. THE UNUSUAL ART OF RICK SGRILLO

A self-taught blacksmith and artisan, Rick Sgrillo’s sculptural work can be found decorating the landscape throughout Florida, including Walt Disney World Resort, Bok Tower Gardens, and many commercial buildings and private homes. Rick spent many hours in the

high school metal shop, receiving an industrial arts award at graduation then, perfecting his craft as the owner of Renaissance Iron. The natural world served as the inspiration behind the creation of these whimsical and fantastical carnivorous sculptures. DID YOU KNOW?

Charles Darwin performed much of the early research into Drosera (the name he used to identify carnivorous plants). In an 1860 letter, Darwin wrote, “… at the present moment. I care more about Drosera than the origin of all the species in the world.” FIVE BASIC TRAPPING MECHANISMS ARE FOUND IN CARNIVOROUS PLANTS

1. Pitfall traps (pitcher plants) trap prey in a rolled leaf that contains a pool of digestive enzymes or bacteria. 2. Flypaper traps use a sticky mucilage. 3. Snap traps utilize rapid leaf movements. 4. Bladder traps suck in prey with a bladder that generates an internal vacuum. 5. Lobster traps, also known as eel traps, force prey to move towards a digestive organ with inward-pointing hairs.

COVID-19 Proves We Need UBI “If any of your fellow Israelites become poor and are unable to support themselves among you, help them as you would a foreigner and stranger, so they can continue to live among you.” - — Lev. 25:35 (NIV) COVID-19 has undoubtedly hurt the economy. In April alone, more than 20.5 million jobs were lost and unemployment jumped to 14.7%, the worst levels since the Great Depression, the New York Times reports. While some aid has been offered through stimulus relief checks, for too many people, it isn’t enough. Nearly one-third of Americans claim their $1,200 check won’t sustain them for one month, while 8% claim it won’t help them at all, Fox Business reports. Our politicians insist we face an ultimatum: either we “re-open the economy” and risk the spread of COVID-19, or we continue quarantine and risk “tanking the economy.” Either way, it’s a lose/lose scenario. But what if there were another option? What if Americans continued receiving checks, especially if they’re unemployed? What if instead of receiving only one $1,200 check, they received a check every month? In fact, what if every American continued receiving a monthly check that covered their basic needs even long after the pandemic? Sounds like a radical idea? It’s actually a long-debated concept, and there’s a name for it: universal basic income, or UBI. I discussed UBI a year ago (https://bit.ly/2ArcZ9X), but it’s an idea that’s relevant now more than ever. With so many Americans unemployed, and with our current welfare system constrained, we need to consider new ideas to aid the poor among us and help lift them out of poverty. UBI, as defined by Wikipedia, is a “governmental public program for a periodic payment delivered to all on an individual basis without means test or work requirement.” EXPECT MORE... GET MORE... WE DELIVER!

Simply put, it provides everyone an unconditional lump sum of cash to help pay their basic financial needs. While critics dismiss UBI as “socialism” or “welfare”, it would potentially prove less costly than our current welfare system. In the WSJ, political scientist Charles Murray estimated that a $13,000 annual grant distributed monthly would cost less than welfare. He wrote: “As of 2014, the annual cost of a UBI would have been about $200 billion cheaper than the current system. By 2020, it would be nearly a trillion dollars cheaper.” Other critics argue UBI would disincentivize work. After all, if everyone received free money to pay for their expenses, wouldn’t they quit their jobs and stop working? If Finland is any indicator, that won’t happen. For two years, Finland tested its own version of UBI, offering an unconditional monthly income of $590 to $2,000 randomly-selected citizens. Since then, a survey of recipients showed that not only did UBI not deter them from working, but it actually improved their financial, physical, and mental well-being. In fact, UBI, rather than discourage work, actually encouraged people to work more. As The Guardian reports: “Some people said the basic income had zero effect on their productivity...[and] others said...they were prepared to take low-paying jobs they would otherwise have avoided.” If anything, UBI allowed them to become more involved in their community through volunteer work or informal care. Aside from helping others, it also helped themselves as, The Guardian reports, “they were generally more satisfied with their lives and experienced less mental strain, depression, sadness and loneliness.” If UBI worked for Finland, there’s no reason it couldn’t work here in America. QUESTIONS OR COMMENTS Info@todayandtonight.com JUNE 2020 11

Local Bars Going Smoke-Free by James Coulter Prior to the COVID-19 outbreak, it was not uncommon to step inside Brew Hounds Sports Lounge in Auburndale to a hazy atmosphere lingering with cigarette smoke. Once the bar re-opens, the good times will still be there, but the smoke will not. Like many other local bars, Brew Hounds will be converting to a non-smoking facility. No longer will patrons smoke inside. If they want a cigarette, they’ll have to step outside. Skip Jacobs, co-owner, does not smoke, but his fellow co-owner, Luke, does, as does half of the staff. Even then, they understand the need to change with the times, and both concerns about second-hand smoke and COVID19 has prompted them to make their bar non-smoking. Especially with the down-time over the past two months, Skip and his staff had plenty of time to renovate their building as well as to re-think their image, which includes catering to the needs of non-smoking patrons. “We decided to go non-smoking by listening to some of our customer base,” Skip says. “They had a desire for a non-smoking establishment, [and] with us having the time off, being down for over two months, and performing renovations, it was a time for clean air.” 12

JUNE 2020

LOOKING OUT FOR HEALTH Other local bars converting to non-smoking facilities include Linkster’s in Highland City, Paddy Wagon and Jessie’s Lounge in Winter Haven. While their decisions to change vary, most of these reasons boil down to wanting to provide a cleaner, safer environment. Bars closed at 5 pm on March 17 to comply with Gov. Ron DeSantis’s statewide stay-athome order. Since May 1, some restaurants have been allowed to re-open with outdoor seating, with some allowance for indoor seating at 25 percent capacity. Then on May 16, it moved to a 50 percent capacity along with social distancing. Meanwhile, bars, pubs, and nightclubs that receive “more than 50 percent of sales from alcohol” will be allowed open in Phase 2 to operate at 50 percent of building capacity with an emphasis on diminished standing room capacity and prioritizing outdoor service, according to the governor’s re-opening plan. To help cut down on the potential spread of COVID-19, as well as to placate other health and safety concerns, many bars are making their facilities non-smoking. Smokers are not only more likely to contact COVID-19, but they are also “14 times more likely to need intensive treatment compared with nonsmokers”, according to scientific studies reported by

NPR. Aside from the risk of COVID-19, smoking also increases the risk to non-smokers through second-hand smoke, which contains the same harmful chemicals inhaled by smokers. Second-hand smoke contains over 7,000 chemicals, including nearly 70 chemicals that cause cancer, especially lung cancer, according to the American Cancer Society (ACS). BREAKING THE HABIT Converting to a non-smoking facility isn’t as easy as putting up a non-smoking sign. Facilities that once permitted smoking need to be thoroughly sanitized to remove any smell and remnants of cigarette smoke. Robert Snow, a partner with Linksters, has been helping six bars in Polk County go non-smoking, including the many Linksters in Polk County, Central Tavern in Winter Haven, two Irish Pubs in Lakeland, and Paddy Wagon in Lakeland. While Davenport Paddy Wagon and Central Tavern of Winter Haven had already adopted this policy, ALL Polk locations will follow suit. Assisting him with the process has been Cloud 9, an ozone smoke eradication company from North Fort, FL. Following the ozone smoke eradication treatment of the AC system and ducts, the facilities are cleaned from ceiling to floor, lights are replaced, furniture is re-sanitized,

FIND US ON FACEBOOK AND WWW.TODAYANDTONIGHT.COM

and woodwork is cleaned and polished. Overall, the process for each bar takes up to eight or nine days, Snow says. “We thought we would attract a larger market from people who don’t come in our bars because of the smoke,” he says. “We are optimistic. We thought it was the right time to do it, with all of the health concerns.” MIXED (BUT MOSTLY POSITIVE) RECEPTION Brew Hounds announced on Facebook their decision to become non-smoking. They have since received overwhelming support from its Facebook followers, many of whom have expressed their approval of this health-conscious decision. Only a rare few were disappointed. “Damn this really sucks,” one negative comment read. “Bars are the only place left where you can smoke. Any suggestions on any other decent bars in the area that do allow smoking?” However, aside from one or two naysayers, most response to their news was overwhelmingly positive and supportive, with patrons old and new saying they will still frequent the bar. “I’m sure some folks will be upset about this decision but I’m sure that your loyal clients will continue to support you and your staff because you have always shown everyone love and respect for their business,” one positive comment read. LESS SMOKE, MORE PEOPLE Jessie’s Lounge in Winter Haven also made the decision to re-open their bar as non-smoking in December 2019. The decision was made to help draw more people in, as many people avoided their regular events due to the smoke, explains Robbie Loftus, the manager responsible for booking and event coordination. “The reception [to the change] has been welcomed by everybody,” he says. “We have people who would come for our Weekly Jam on Wednesdays, and we had people who wanted to come but wouldn’t because it was smoking.

Now those people have come back because they [enjoyed coming] and not have [to deal with] that smell of cigarettes.” Loftus and many of his staff used to smoke. He has since quit, and ever since quitting, he wanted to convert Jessie’s Lounge to non-smoking. The change has been accepted by everyone. Old and new patrons who don’t smoke can enjoy a smoke-free environment, while patrons who do smoke can go outside if they want to. Jessie’s Lounge has also undergone renovations during the COVID-19 outbreak. The bathrooms have been remodeled, and the stage backdrop, audio, and lighting has been upgraded. Loftus hopes to re-open soon with more patrons old and new coming to enjoy the changes. “We couldn’t wait for the day that we [went non-smoking],” he says. “We figured to draw in a whole new clientele that normally don’t come into Jessie’s because of the stigma of being a smoking bar. So, once we did that...it was one of the best things we did.” Once Brew Hounds re-opens, not only will customers be able to enjoy a new smoke-free indoor environment with an outdoor smoking patio area (coming soon), but they will also see a whole new facility with such renovations as new flooring, additional televisions, repainted walls, new decor, and extra parking spaces. Furthermore, Skip has been requesting the city to allow food trucks within the city limits. As he wants to feed his patrons without serving their own food, a food truck parked outside his facility would be most convenient to him and his customers, he explains. While the bar may experience a small turnout due to limited capacity, he nevertheless expects customers both old and new to come out as soon as the bar re-opens. He especially hopes that their decision to go non-smoking will draw in even more new patrons. “We’ve always been a busy bar,” he says. “So, all we can do is hope to bring in a new clientele. And we will remain as busy, if not busier where at Brew Hounds Sports Lounge, You Are Always Among Friends!”

Downsizing... The Coronavirus has caused havoc all over the world. From major health issues and thousands of deaths to putting our economy into a “Great Depression” like state. Many businesses are struggling to stay afloat, some closing their doors for good. People with work hours cut, temporarily laid off and multi-thousands unemployed. This pandemic has touched EVERYONE! Phase 1 has been a success, says Governor DeSantis, so we are now ready to move into Phase 2 to get more businesses open and more people back to work. But, how long will it take for us to recover? How long will it take for us to feel safe and secure due to a teetering economy? Trying to stay positive but also realizing that we are opening up a Florida economy in our slow summer season which also coincides with the start of hurricane season…hmmm, do we feel a black cloud hovering? As a self-employed person, I understand how scary this pandemic has been both in business and personal. This is a time of re-birth for many; figuring out how to survive and thrive as the “new normal” engulfs our society. Right now, the name of the game is cutting costs and downsizing where possible. SO…we’ve been packing up our home of 14 years, which has also been our office for the past 5 years, to start our next chapter in a smaller living (and working) space. It’s sad to leave the area with our neighbors we love so much, but it’s time to go (plus we’re not moving that far away). Admittedly, I’ve always had a hard time with change especially after accumulating so much “stuff” over the years. It can be very over-whelming at times, especially during this very uncertain period with the pandemic

and the economy when many self-employed people, like me, have very little income coming in right now and government assistance being little to none. This fact along with the move have taken over the space in my brain leaving little time to think of anything else. Now, time has been split between packing up the old space and getting the new space ready with painting, ceiling work, driveway repair; thank God for our friends that have been able to also help! Moving boxes from one house is now over-taking the new space even before there’s time to get unpacked. This is my nightmare, packing up one space to make more work of loading it into a garage and then try to get all items in their new place as fast as possible. Ugh! It actually seems like an impossible task. Did I also mention that I need to host a garage sale to get rid of items that there is no room to take??? Downsizing can be very therapeutic (for some). I have to keep a positive mindset that purging items not needed is good for the soul, a cleansing process, and concentrating on the fact that making extra money right now is the ultimate goal! Even though we are moving into a smaller space, I am very grateful to have this new house with lots of projects to take on (in the future) and find ways to personalize it as our own when finances allow. I am also happy to have a fenced in back yard for “the girls”. It will be a good space for the dogs to safely play. It also makes me happy to have another dedicated space for a new vegetable garden that will be on track to plant by fall. And finally, I am relived to be saving money to help us survive in this uncertain time when many, like us, are working towards re-building and re-branding to get to a better, stronger future.

GINGER

Ginger is an orange male Domestic Shorthair mix. He is approximately 2 years, 8 months old. He is a little shy at first but is sweet once he gets to know you. He likes to toy with you and like Ronnie will give a love bite after about 3 pets. He usually hides when new people come into the house so he needs time to come around. Ginger does like cat nip and Temptation treats.

PORK CHOP

Pork Chop is a tan and black male Black Mouth Cur mix. He is approximately 2 years old. Pork Chop is a very goofy and lovable dog. He has never been around children especially smaller children or cats and prefers to be the only dog in the house. Pork Chop is very eager to meet you and will jump up on new people. We are working on him to learn better manners.

TOW TRUCK

Tow Truck is a tan and black male Black Mouth Cur mix. He is approximately 2 years old and has been neutered. He is a sweet but hyper dog that loves attention. Tow Truck also loves getting treats and enjoys being petted and loved on. He was hit by a car and had to have his front right leg amputated so he is a tripod dog.

Veterinarian of the Month Devon Watts was born and raised in Winter Haven, Florida and lived there his whole life until he left to pursue a bachelors in Marine Biology at University of West Florida. His interest in animals has been present since a very young age and he frequently visited zoos and animal exhibits at any wildlife themed park in the area. He attended University of West Florida for his bachelors of science in marine biology with a focus on preparing for the possibility of vet school. While there he spent time working at the Pensacola Humane Society both as a volunteer and a kennel technician and one particular animal became ill and observing his treatment cemented his desire to pursue a career in veterinary medicine. He graduated from St. George's University in January of 2019 and has been practicing at Heart of Florida Animal Hospital since February. In his free time he likes to build and paint models for tabletop games, play games with friends and watch movies usually with his pothound Soursop close by.

POLK COUNTY PROVING TO BE A CARING COMMUNITY By Elizabeth Morrisey Polk County is proving to be a caring community especially during these difficult times. Food drives and other events are providing for people in need, Facebook groups have formed to cheer people up, there are birthday parades, signs are being posted in yards to congratulate graduates and locals are cooking for first responders.

Keller Williams branch. The Realtors and community members collected four trailers full of food. “The community really came out and helped. We had about 10 people per hour dropping off food,” he says. The event was part of a Keller Williams national initiative called Red Day in which all offices take the day off to give back to their communities. When it comes to giving back, Polk County res-

Keller Williams Smart 1 held a food drive for the community May 14th and donated to The Mission and Meals on Wheels. Some families even stopped to ask for food because they were hurting and needed assistance. “We saw a need and wanted to do something big,” says Chad Lindsey, owner of the

ident Sara Gabbard started the Winter Haven Area Gifting Group in mid May on Facebook whose motto is “Sprinkle kindness around like confetti.” The women-only group already has 315 members who post their Amazon Wish Lists so others can buy items for them. “Moms don’t buy much for themselves and during quarantine it gave us something fun to do. Some women are dealing with isolation and depression,” Gabbard says. “This gave us something different to focus on. It’s amazing how sending a $2 item can brighten someone’s day.” There are also little Polk County “fairies” sprinkling joy by secretly delivering baskets of wine and other goodies to each other. The Wine Fairies of Polk County is another Facebook group dedi-

cated to lifting the spirits of local residents 21 and up. With more than 2,000 members, the group has spread like wildfire since mid May. Founder Amanda Loper has made 27 baskets filled with wine, chocolate, bath bombs and other fun items. Members can post their address then choose who to gift whether it’s friends or strangers. “Love and happiness has spread so fast,” she says. “It’s amazing seeing everyone’s creativity. We leave the basket at the door, ring the bell and run.” Some even wear fairy wings. Auburndale resident Jen McDermott joined the group and has been the recipient of two baskets. But she gets the most joy out of giving – delivering 10 baskets to both friends and strangers. She grabs items from Dollar Tree, Family Dollar and Aldi only spending about $7-$10 per basket. “Some moms are stuck at home and this is a way to do something nice,” she explains. “I hope it continues. It has brought so much happiness. It’s been a very positive experience.” Positive vibes and love keep spreading through the county. Right before Teacher Appreciation Week in early May, Jami Wheeler, a local teacher, started up the Polk County Teacher Appreciation Facebook page. Local teachers were “adopted” and the group currently has more than 3,000 members. “I created it on a whim and the flood gates opened,” she says. “It helped lift spirits and it’s cool to read about other teachers in the county and see people connect.” She is hoping to keep the page going and have it serve as a resource for people to easily see what local teachers’ needs are in their classrooms. Elizabeth Keep, an English teacher at Winter Haven Senior High, was adopted by a total stranger and given a necklace, stamp, pens, a t-shirt, yarn for crocheting and other items. “It made me feel special, very honored and very appreciated,” she says. “She selected absolutely brilliant presents.” During this Covid-19 crisis, many of us have had a soft spot for not only teachers but 2020 high school seniors who have missed out on proms, get-togethers, awards ceremonies and other events that are iconic to senior students. Crystal Maycumber’s son attends Summerlin Academy in Bartow and plans to enlist in the Air Force as soon as the recruiter offices open back up. Her son’s school gave the family a yard sign to announce Johnny graduating and she recently planned something special for her son and his friends. Maycumber had the idea to transform her carport into an outdoor venue for prom. She had snacks, decorations, a photo booth and even a crown for king and queen. “I felt bad he wasn’t going to have a prom and I could see he was depressed. I let him and his girlfriend invite a couple of close friends.” First responders have been receiving many thanks during this crisis. Polk County’s very own world champion pit master, barbeque chef, author and television celebrity has been cooking up ribs, pork, chicken and other yummy food for the Haines City police department and the Auburndale fire department. Danielle Bennett, known as Diva Q BBQ on Instagram, has always enjoyed doing charity work for the community. “These guys are there for us and have to be out there,” she says. “If you can give back, you should. Show the community some love. I am grateful to be able to and thankful for them.” Loper, with the Wine Fairies, said she sure hopes the kindness around Polk County continues. “The love and support is amazing. Through everything, I feel like we should take this as a lesson – to be kind and support each other.”

BRAINEXCERCISE Sudoku Puzzle STRANGE BUT TRUE BY SAMANTHA WEAVER • A swarm of 20,000 bees followed a car for two days because their queen was inside the vehicle. The insects were removed by a beekeeper after the car was parked, but were back the next day, as the queen was still inside. • Peter Ostrum, who portrayed Charlie Bucket in the original “Charlie and the Chocolate Factory,” declined the offer of a three-picture deal and bought a horse with his movie earnings. His resulting love for animals led him to pursue a career not as an actor, but a veterinarian. • During World War II, Coca-Cola wanted soldiers to have a taste of home and opened bottling plants near Europe. However, the soda was synonymous with the States, making it problematic for non-Americans to be seen drinking it, especially in the Soviet Union where it was viewed as a symbol of American imperialism. Soviet Gen. Marshal Georgy Zhukov, a fan who didn’t want to be seen consuming it himself, appealed to the company to make a clear version. A chemist at the Austrian bottling plant obliged by removing the drink’s coloring, after which “White Coke” was bottled in clear glass with a white cap and red star. • “Jeopardy” fan Cindy Stowell dreamed nearly her entire life of being a contestant on the show. In 2016 she successfully auditioned and became a six-time champion even while battling Stage 4 cancer during filming. Sadly, she didn’t live to see her episodes air, but her $103,000 in winnings was donated to cancer organizations.

TAP YOUR INNER CHEF WITH DIY RECIPES Now with the COVID-19 pandemic, we all must think differently about going out to buy food and adjust the way that we prepare favorite family recipes based upon what is available. This is where do-it-yourself dinner recipes come in handy. Chowders were introduced to North America by immigrants from France and England more than 250 years ago. Native Americans called the dish “chawder,” which was interpreted as “chowder” by early settlers and fishermen in New England. The original versions of the dish consisted of a pot filled with a mixture of fresh fish, salt pork, leftover hardened biscuits (which were used as a thickener), onions, water and whatever spices were available. A chowder is a delicious way to use the ingredients you have on hand to create a meal that does not require extensive prep or simmering for hours. My recipe for Seafood and Sweet Corn Chowder uses the basic techniques for making a chowder, but is designed to accommodate the need to vary ingredients based upon what you have on hand or what you can purchase at the store. SEAFOOD AND SWEET CORN CHOWDER If you don’t have all the vegetables, seafood or spices on hand, omit or substitute the ingredient with what you do have. This chowder will still be delicious without it! oil

EXPECT MORE... GET MORE... WE DELIVER!

“I wish it need not have happened in my time,” said Frodo. “So do I,” said Gandalf, “and so do all who live to see such times. But that is not for them to decide. All we have to decide is what to do with the time that is given us.” — J.R.R. Tolkien, The Fellowship of the Ring “It’s being here now that’s important. There’s no past and there’s no future. Time is a very misleading thing. All there is ever, is the now. We can gain experience from the past, but we can’t relive it; and we can hope for the future, but we don’t know if there is one.” — George Harrison “The past is never dead. It’s not even past.” — William Faulkner “I have no faith in human perfectibility. I think that human exertion will have no appreciable effect upon humanity. Man is now only more active - not more happy - nor more wise, than he was 6000 years ago.” — Edgar Allan Poe During the last three months, the idea of time has become the central theme in my life. Counting the days, reviewing the weeks, and waiting for better times has become an obsession. It appears for the first time; our society finally has more time but now has fewer resources. I see so many struggling with the wait for unemployment they no longer think in terms of minutes but hours. Phone wait times are often exceeding a typical workday. We are all waiting for better days, and each week this month has provided another set of unfathomable problems. If we had a time machine, what would

we go back in time to solve? In Ray Bradbury’s “A Sound of Thunder,” we learn that time travel comes fraught with paradoxes. The popular movie “The Butterfly Effect” is based on this 1953 short story. If we could go back in time, could we solve the issues of racial equality, global health, the environment, and political stability? Is there one point in time when we could have turned the tide and selected a better route? Three days into the closure, I remarked my disbelief to a colleague about how our businesses were completely falling apart after only a short period. I remember thinking, how did we get to the point so fast? Her wisdom far outweighed my naivety, and she remarked, “We were always a few degrees from the boiling point.” The recent world events have removed the thin veil of security, and now we have time to see what was already surrounding us. Now more than ever, we need to take the gift of time to plan for a better future. This pandemic has shown our medical system is in shambles. We need health reform now before the next crisis occurs. We need policies that take minutes and not hours, to assist citizens in their time of need. We need better technology to bring education to all and a systematic change to the way we provide learning in both face-to-face and virtual environments. We need more economic opportunities and less conflict. Time is our most valuable asset, and we cannot slide back into habits that delivered the chaos we are experiencing now. We do not have time to waste. JUNE 2020 23
