Objet Recommendation, Tobi Alade

Date January 11, 2025

To whom it may concern,

Following a very successful internship with our firm in 2024, I am happy to recommend Tobi Alade for a coop internship position.

During his time in our office, Tobi worked on a diverse range of projects, both individual and in teams :

- presentation drawings for housing competitions: axonometrics, sections, elevations, plans

- detailed interior drawings for a healthcare competition

- physical models for competition and study

- development of complex 3d modeling for a schematic façade study

I had the opportunity to witness, firsthand, Tobi’s seriousness. He was eager to participate in meetings and site visits, and readily accepted new tasks.

Tobi was quick to learn and showed an ability to tackle new methods and tools. He showed care and craft in all his endeavors.

It was a pleasure to witness Tobi’s professional development during his training, and I am confident that he will have great success in his professional future.

Best regards,

Re: Reference Letter for Tobi Alade

To whom It May Concern,

On behalf of Nicholson Sheffield Architects, it is my pleasure to provide this recommendation letter for Tobi Alade. Tobi worked with NSA from January to April 2024 as part of his co-operative education experience with the University of Waterloo School of Architecture Bachelor of Architectural Studies program.

While in the office Tobi worked on a variety of tasks ranging from construction documents for a new high school, to schematic design drawings for a new restaurant, and detailed design renderings for an affordable housing project and a luxury single family home.

We were impressed by Tobi's ability to quickly learn new software and drawing standards. Tobi is a fast learner, and he uses resources well. This allowed Tobi to jump into various project teams, project types, and phases, working collaboratively and productively. Tobi approached his work methodically and with a strong enthusiasm for the field of architecture. We are pleased to recommend him for any potential employment opportunities in the field of Architecture. If you have any questions, feel free to contact me.

Sincerely,

Bloom is an open air amphitheatre located in Square des Frères-Charon, a historical part of Montreal. Situated at the intersection of the old port and the new city center, this performance space provides an enclosure for local artists and performers to share their work and craft. The round shape of the stage mirrors that of the site and opens up the acts to the community, whereas the geometrical canopy contrasts this gesture and stands out visually.

Bloom offers a contemporary addition to the historical site through its prominent and distinctive steel geometry and red finish bringing a unique atmosphere to the traditional landscape.

Located on the corner of Spadina Avenue and Queens Street West, Itan (story) Courtyards, acts as a cultural hub dedicated to the preservation and celebration of Yoruba storytelling traditions from Nigeria. This cultural centre encourages the preservation of this declining language by housing programs and workshops to educate the community on Nigerian traditions.

The design takes inspiration from the original setting of the oral storytelling traditions in Nigeria. It focuses on creating formal and informal gathering spaces the building through the use of various courtyards and multi-purpose spaces. With a special focus on sightlines towards different spaces, the building invites the oublic to wander and explore.

To aid in preserving this “lost” knowledge system, the archive aims to employ the use of modern technology to preserve these stories by employing all of the human senses. Through audio recordings, projection art, 3D scultpure representations and more, this archive is able to ensure that these folktales are not forgotten.

Woodland Encounters is a holistic landscape architecture project designed to restore the dwindling population of flying squirrels in Southwestern Ontario. Urban development in this region has significantly reduced the natural habitats that once supported these vibrant creatures. The Rare Charitable Reserve site offers an ideal ecozone for fostering their recovery.

This intervention combines architectural design, community engagement, and ecological landscaping principles to create a space that supports both conservation and education. The project features two interconnected pavilions that embody the spirit of the flying squirrel. Visitors are guided through a journey that mirrors the squirrel’s perspective, fostering a deeper connection to the species and highlighting the importance of its protection. By engaging with this immersive experience, users gain an understanding of the critical need for conservation and the role they can play in preserving these unique creatures.

The miyawaki planting method is used to restructure the forest with a focus on restoring the various sub canopy plant layers. This allows for a healthier more diverese ecosystem. The plants introduced are carefully seleced to thrive in close proxiimity creating dense, more resilient microforests thta reach maturity in as little as 10 years.

To foster community involvement, users are encouraged to meander throughout the site, traveling in the shadows of the squirrels’ flight path. During this promenade, they are able to forage various edible plants which are then brewed into tea once they reach the tea house pavilion. The experience of navigating through the site causes the users to reach a final state where they have fully embodied the creaure and are thus able to wholly understand why they need to be preserved.
