What Area 36 has been up to so far this year! By Debby Looney, Killarney Toastmasters, Area 36 Director Area 36 is made up of 4 clubs, Tralee Toastmasters, Killarney Toastmasters, West Limerick Toastmasters and since November, our first corporate club, FEXCO Payments & FX. There are also two prospective clubs, Listowel Toastmasters and Dell Toastmasters Limerick. Geographically, Area 36 is in the Southwest of Ireland, taking in County Kerry and parts of County Limerick.
Our year started off with in July, with Killarney Toastmasters’ annual Summer Dinner. This year we were joined by guests from across the Division, even our Immediate Past District Director Michael Collins. It was a memorable, and very enjoyable, night. What better way to start the new Toastmaster year than with good food, good company, and, naturally, good conversation?! An auspicious start to the year for the new Killarney president, Alan Ryan.
The Summer Dinner hosted by Killarney Toastmasters
On the 30th of October, or Hallowe’en, Tralee Toastmasters, under the fun and dynamic presidency of Derry Butler, aka ‘Count Dracula’, hosted an ‘Out Of This World’ meeting in the beautiful Ballyseede Castle. This castle is an ancient landmark in Tralee and we were treated to a tour of the old castle… ghosts, wolfhounds and swords were
the order of the day. I will always remember this occasion – not least because of the exceptionally well-researched speech given by Tralee member, Ania Dukorno - the witch’s broom is incontrovertibly the safest means of travel! Thank you Tralee for hosting such an unforgettable night!
