MASTER OF ARTS IN TEACHING

The Master of Arts in Teaching (MAT) program at Tennessee Wesleyan is designed for working adults who have decided to bring their skills and experience into the classroom. MAT is an Initial Licensure program, providing college graduates who did not complete a traditional teacher education program the opportunity to earn their graduate degree and teaching license.

The MAT at Tennessee Wesleyan University is a mostly online program with an in-person, on-campus class one Saturday each month.

• The MAT can be completed in 1-2 years

• Clinical experience options: Student Teaching or Job-Embedded

• Licensure endorsement options:

• Elementary Education (K-5)

• Special Education Interventionist (K-8)

• Secondary Biology (6-12)

• Secondary Chemistry (6-12)

• Secondary English (6-12)

• Secondary History (6-12)

• Secondary Mathematics (6-12)

AFFORDABILITY

Your career advancement won’t put you back financially. The MAT program tuition is $650 per credit hour. Semester hours are 36 for the student teaching option and 30 for the job-embedded option.

ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS

• Online application

• A bachelor’s degree from an accredited university

• Official transcripts from all undergraduate work

• 2.75 overall GPA

• Two letters of recommendation

• 2-page essay on why the applicant has chosen to pursue teaching
