Local teacher leads Australia to victory as Touch Football World Cup champions

USTRALIAN Touch Football Mixed Open captain, and local PE teacher, Ryan Pollock (right) has experienced victory at the World Cup in Edinburgh, Scotland. On Sunday 26 June, Australia came up against New Zealand in the Women’s, Men’s and Mixed divisions, and each game came right down to the final siren, with Australia digging deep to claim each title. In the Mixed Open division, New Zealand got out to a flying start, scoring the first three touchdowns of the match, before Australia hit back to trail by one at half-time, 6-5. Finishing in a blaze of glory, Ryan eventually led his team to victory with a final score of 10-7. “Being named captain of the Aussie Mixed for the 2011 World Cup was just the greatest honour” Ryan said. “Ever since I was a young kid, I just lived sport. I grew up playing and watching as much as I could and it didn’t matter what sport it was. I used to watch people representing Australia on the TV and that’s all I ever wanted to do too, emulate those sporting heroes and play for Australia”. In 2009 Ryan reached that goal, after many years of hard work and determination. It could be said that in 2011 all his greatest wishes have come true. Education Queensland says that Health and physical education (HPE) promotes the value of physical activity in students' lives. It gives students opportunities to learn about and practice ways of working with others and adopt and maintain a healthy, productive and active life.

We are privileged to have such an amazing person teaching the students on Tamborine Mountain. Australia won all three Open divisions, something that hasn’t been done by the nation since the 2003 World Cup. For more information about Ryan and Touch Football Australia visit www.austouch.com.au
