10. Discussion regarding proposed legislation creating Fannin County Improvement District Number One – County Judge. The county was approached by the Johnson family in regard to the formation of what Cunningham described as “a super MUD (Municipal Utility District).” This concept provides for roads, water and other infrastructure, a responsibility that often falls on the shoulder of county governments.
Judge Cunningham commented “I believe that the more local government entities take over responsibility for the roads, the easier our job is, the money goes in, it takes care of those roads, I think it’s the way of the future.” He stated that the super MUDS do not cost the county anything, it’s costing the people who live in them.

20. Discussion and possible action regarding additional services and work on the Justice Center – County Judge. Crossland Construction will pay the $38,000 it will cost to redesign the parking out of the company’s contingency fund. The Commissioners Court agreed to install a concrete parking lot at a cost of approximately $576,100.00. Water issue at the back of the building and the roof will still need to be addressed. Judge Cunningham reported that the Juvenile Probation and the Tax Assessor-Collector departments will not move into the Justice Center due to the additional cost the county cannot afford.
21. Discussion and possible action regarding hiring litigation attorney(s) to attempt to recoup cost of repairs and damages for taxpayers related to the Fannin County Courthouse – County Judge. Judge
Cunningham said “We basically had a split in the court last week. We’re in the process of getting an estimate of what the costs are going to be to fix this courthouse, or get an estimate and see what that amounts to. My deal is if it’s a contractor or somebody involved that does something that costs the county money and they’re legally obligated to pay it, they need to pay it. I don’t care who they are.” This agenda item was passed on until there are some estimates of the cost of repair.
OPEN DISCUSSION ITEMS:
Open discussion items will be passed on unless discussion requested by a member of the Court or a Citizen.
22. Subdivision Committee and Subdivision Policy –County Judge.
23. Courthouse repairs and litigation – County Judge. Ongoing
24. Justice Center –County Judge. See Agenda #20

Judge Cunningham reported that the county paid a vendor $26,000 to initiate a county Hotel Occupancy Tax (HOT), none of the promises the vendor’s made have taken place. The Judge will issue a formal letter to the vendor, requesting reimbursement.
26. Water issues affecting Fannin County – County Judge.
27. Fannin County road issues – County Judge.
28. Solar and wind farms, Battery Energy Storage Systems – County Judge. Judge Cunningham indicated that Fannin County Fire Marshal Troy Hudson has requested a meeting with Engie Services US, the owner of the BESS near Savoy to ensure compliance with codes before the battery energy storage system goes online in June 2025. Savoy Mayor Roger Cada reported that he is being notified of loud popping sounds coming from the BESS plant. Mayor Cada said, “We have a Fire Marshal in place, and before we even have a business that turns on the power, they usually have a check by somebody. This company has done everything it can to ignore us until we actually approach them. We’ve got to take and put something in place that says, you’re not starting this thing up until it’s expected to meet the 855 regulations for 2024. I’m concerned about this.” Cunningham said the company has failed to provide necessary documentation.
“We’ve asked for an inspection,” Cunningham stated. Bonham resident Tom Turner said the seriousness of this issue would seem to require all commissioners to be present when the plant is
inspected. Cunningham said that would require a public notice, but he would consider the suggestion.
Pct. 4 Commissioner Doug Kopf asked if the inspection was done, and there is fault found, do we have the authority to shut it down?
Judge Cunningham said “I think Van Zandt County shut them down. That’s my understanding. So our fire marshal, now that we have one, has the ability to go into court and get a shutdown.” Mayor Cada said, “What happened is this company came in here and where this place is located is very, very secluded. You can hardly even see it. And so they started building this, and by the way, this is their MO. It’s happening all around the state. And they just kind of just do things until somebody says, what are you doing?
I’m concerned about the transparency of this company, and I’m concerned about their ethical behaviors.”
A walk-through of the BESS plant is scheduled for May 20, 2025.
29. Emergency Medical Services – County Judge.
30. Overweight trucks and highway safety – County Judge.
31. Ordinances and enforcement – County Judge
32. Fire Marshal –County Judge.

AUSTIN – The Texas Health and Human Servic-
es Commission is observing Older Texans Month in May by promoting resources available to help people live well as they age. Gov. Greg Abbott issued a proclamation reminding Texans of the responsibility to care for older adults.
An estimated 5.9 million people 60 or older live in Texas, according to the Texas Demographic Center. As this number increases, so does the need for older adults to form meaningful relationships and social connections.
The HHSC Foster Grandparent Program provides an opportunity for people 55 and older with limited incomes to mentor and tutor children with special and exceptional needs. Volunteers share their time and talents with the children they mentor as they build one-on-one relationships through trust
and support. Volunteers serve 15 to 40 hours a week and receive a monthly, taxfree stipend.
“I love the program because we are a family, and I’ve made new friends while helping children,” said Modesto Perez, a Foster Grandparent Program volunteer in Abilene. “As a senior, we have knowledge, life skills and wisdom to share with others. It’s a great feeling that I made a difference in a young person’s life.”
HHSC provides these additional resources for older adults in Texas:
● Aging and Disability Resource Centers (ADRCs) help provide people referrals and access to long-term services and supports.
● Area agencies on aging (AAA) provide older adults, their families and caregivers with nutrition services, including home and congregate meals and evidence-
based fitness programs.
● The Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) assists people with buying the food they need for good health.
● Texercise provides free physical activity and nutrition resources to educate, motivate and engage adults 45 and older.
● Age Well Live Well is a statewide campaign that promotes easy pathways to resources and emphasizes how to make healthy changes using three core message areas: be healthy, be connected, and be informed.
● The Know Your Neighbor campaign helps Texans form and maintain connections with older neighbors.
● Aging Texas Well is a strategic planning effort that reviews policies impacting older Texans, assesses local and state readiness to meet the needs of older adults, and promotes community preparedness for a growing older adult population.

cream and sour cream, pour over top. Cook in oven at 325° for 1 hour. After removing from the oven, sprinkle with cheese. This can be made ahead of time and frozen before cooking. Makes enough for a large and small casserole. Recipe ingredients can easily be cut in half.

We think of you in silence, We often speak your name, But all we have are memories, And your picture in a frame.
She will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
God’s Garden God looked around His garden And found an empty place. He then looked down upon the earth And saw your tired face. He put His arms around you And lifted you to rest. God’s garden must be beautiful He always takes the best. He saw the road was getting rough And the hills were hard to climb, So He closed your weary eyelids And whispered “Peace be thine.” It broke our hearts to lose you But you didn’t go alone, For part of us went with you The day God called you home.

Dear Bonham Community,
As I wrap up my tenure as your Council Member for Ward 2, I want to express my sincere gratitude to each of you for your trust, support, and collaboration over the last six years. It has truly been an honor to represent Ward 2 and work with such passionate individuals dedicated to improving Bonham for everyone. Together, we’ve navigated challenges, celebrated achievements, and made significant strides on the key issues that matter to our community. Since I took office in May 2019, I set out a set of goals—and I am proud to say that I have accomplished each one. I have remained committed to transparency and open communication with our citizens throughout my terms. My aim has always been to listen and help find solutions to the concerns of our residents.
During my time on the council, I was honored to contribute to initiatives that fostered our city’s growth, enhanced street repairs and infrastructure maintenance, increased employment
opportunities, revitalized our historic downtown, and improved public safety, among other achievements. We also championed muchdeserved salary increases for our dedicated city staff and enhanced our communication with residents through a redesigned website, an updated marketing plan, and a stronger social media presence. In addition to my council responsibilities, I had the privilege of representing Fannin County on the TCOG Community Services Advisory Committee, where I supported an antipoverty initiative aimed at developing, planning, implementing, and evaluating programs for low-income communities across the Texoma region, including Cooke, Fannin, and Grayson Counties. I also served as Event Lead for Fannin County's Relay For Life and participated in various local committees focused on community development. These accomplishments would not have been possible without the incredible team I had the pleasure of working alongside. I want to extend a special thank
you to Mayor Roy Floyd, Mayor H.L. Compton, City Manager Sean Pate, and all the current and former City Council members with whom I collaborated. Our progress was a team effort, and it was never just about my role or my votes; it required all of us working together to create a vibrant environment in Bonham. Above all, I want to express my deep appreciation to my wife, Shaterra, and my three daughters, Teagan, Tailyn, and Tenley, for their unwavering support throughout this journey. Their patience, love, and encouragement have meant the world to me. Bonham is on an upward trajectory, and I am proud to have contributed, even in a small way, to its progress. Although my term is concluding, my commitment to our city remains steadfast, and I look forward to being involved in new capacities in the years to come.
With heartfelt appreciation, Council Member Timothy La Vergne, II, Ward 2 City of

In 2 Corinthians 12:911, Paul teaches us a great paradox: In our weakness, He is made strong. This is made possible by His grace. Because of this truth we can “boast in” and “delight in” weaknesses, insults, persecutions, and difficulties. It is during these times; God can pour out His grace to give us supernatural strength to
endure.
As I reflect on my own life, I see that the hardest times of my life were the times I grew the most. I lean upon Him more. I seek Him more. I walk with Him closer. Romans 5:35 says, “And not only that, but we also glory in tribulations, know that tribulations produce perseverance; and perseverance, character; and character, hope.” Praise God! This is why James tells us that
Hello everyone!
This week’s devotion comes from John 15:12-17. As Memorial Day approaches, I couldn’t help but come back to this passage. Oftentimes verse 13 refers to someone who will die, or who is willing to die, in service of others. This familiar passage is part of Jesus’ farewell discourse to His disciples before Hos impending arrest and death. We see that there are many applications to Jesus’ teaching here. The context of His statements about our lives, as believers, shows that it is not just our physical body that He is referring to. We are instructed to abide in Him (John 15:4), which includes showing the same love for others that He showed to us (John 15:12). In this passage,
He connects our willingness to obey to our legitimate love for Him. John 3:16 reminds us, “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.” May we never forget not only those who have put their lives on the line to defend our nation so that we can enjoy the freedom that we have today, but may we also never forget the sacrifice of our Lord, Jesus Christ, so that we can have eternal life through Him.
In 1866, James Grindly Small wrote this classic hymn that comes from the message in this passage.
“I’ve found a Friend, O such a Friend! He loved me ere I knew
we can “count it all joy when you fall into various trials” because God uses this to bring about spiritual maturity. (James 1:2-4)
Jesus said, “In the world you will have tribulation; but be of good cheer, I have overcome the world!” (John 16:33)
To the Praise of His Glorious Grace, Lyn and Lissa
Him; He drew me with the cords of love, And thus He bound me to Him; And round my heart still closely twine Those ties which naught can sever, For I am His, and He is mine, Forever and forever. I’ve found a Friend, O such a Friend! He bled, He died to save me; And not alone the gift of life, But His own self He gave me. Naught that I have mine own I call, I’ll hold it for the giver; My heart, my strength, my life, my all Are His, and His forever.”
If you’re trying to find a good home church, we invite you to come visit us, and be part of our church family and worship at Central Baptist Church. Visitors are our honored guests, and we hope to see you this Sunday!

Tom Russell, Minister Northside Church of Christ, Bonham by Tom Russell Through the grace of God, we have access to blessings that cannot be counted or measured. One of those blessings is found in repentance. Most probably know that repentance involves “changing one’s mind, or thinking or acting differently”. This repentance is essential to forgiveness, as Peter told those responsible for the murder of Christ, “Repent therefore and turn again, that your sins may be blotted out, that times of refreshing may come from the presence of the Lord” Acts 3:19, 20. The “change of mind”, i.e. repentance, begins when we hear and begin to submit to the “good news” (gospel) of Christ but it reaches its most dramatic moment in baptism
(Immersion in water), for “Do you not know that all of us who have been baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into his death?” Romans 6:3, “in order that, just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, we too might walk in newness of life.” (vs. 4) So, if we are acting with informed faith, we go into the water dead in spirit but arise to walk as Christ did following His resurrection, that is, in the “newness of life.” According to Paul, it is in baptism that we are buried with Christ, and our “old man of sin is crucified with Christ that body of sin might be done away with.”
Paul’s reason for reminding the Roman Christians of these truths was that there were those arguing that their continuance in sin was a good thing because it brought about the continued exercise of God’s
grace. Paul demonstrates the absurdity of their argument by reminding them that in being baptized into Christ they had “crucified their old man of sin”. To return to practicing sin is to resurrect that “old man” and deny one the sacrifice of Christ, “tramples Christ underfoot, treats the blood of the covenant as an unholy thing, and insults the spirit of grace”! (Hebrews 10:26-29)
Let us leave that “old man of sin” crucified, dead, and buried in baptism!
Do not resurrect him!
Rather, let us follow our resurrected Lord of Lords and King of Kings! If we sin let us demonstrate fruits worthy of repentance by getting up from that filthy ground, dusting ourselves off, asking forgiveness, and marching in the light!
By Mike Dickison Minister for the Ivanhoe Church of Christ
Lest we forget what God has given for us, “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son” (John 3:16). Paul wrote of Jesus, “And being found in fashion as a man, he humbled himself, and became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross” (Philippians 2:8). We must remember the crucifixion of Jesus. Consider that the crucifixion took place in a real location. It was outside the walls of Jerusalem, the real city. It is written that “Jesus also, that he might sanctify the people with his own blood, suffered without the gate” (Hebrews 13:12). Jesus “ bearing his cross went forth into a place called the place of a skull, which is called in the Hebrew Golgotha” (John 19:17). In the Latin, the place “is called Calvary” (Luke 23:33). Jennie E Hussey wrote these lyrics, “King of my life, I crown Thee now, Thine shall the glory be; lest I forget Thy thorncrowned brow, lead me to calvary.” There were real soldiers at the crucifixion. The Roman
soldiers, “stripped him, and put a scarlet robe on him,” then “platted a crown of thorns, they put it upon his head, and a reed in his right hand…and mocked him… an led him away to crucify him” (Matthew 27:28-29).
The Roman soldiers “gave him vinegar to drink mingled with gall,” then “crucified him, and parted his garments, casting lots,” and then they sat “down they watched him there” (Matthew 27:34-36). An old song reads, “Were you there when they crucified my Lord?” The soldiers were there. There were real people who saw the crucifixion. Matthew records that there were many that witnessed the crucifixion. “They that passed by reviled him, wagging their heads,..likewise also the chief priests mocking him, with the scribes and elders, said, He saved others; himself he cannot save.” (Matthew 27:39-43). John records that “there stood by the cross of Jesus his mother, and his mother's sister, Mary the wife of Cleophas, and Mary Magdalene” (John 19:25).
Romans 12:18
The crucifixion of Jesus was a real death. Matthew informs us that “when he had cried again with a loud voice, yielded up the ghost” (Matthew 27:50). John explains the fulfillment of prophecy by recording that when the Roman soldiers “came to Jesus, and saw that he was dead already, they brake not his legs: But one of the soldiers with a spear pierced his side, and forthwith came there out blood and water” (John 19:33-34). Philip P Bliss penned familiar words “I will sing of my Redeemer, and His wondrous love to me; on the cruel cross He suffered, from the curse to set me free.” Let us remember what Jesus suffered “that believing ye might have life through his name” (John 20:31).

all the trash thrown into the ditches surrounding the cemetery picked up. And Oakwood has always kept these ditches mowed. However, TXDOT worked on the ditches outside of the cemetery, and some places are now so steep, it may not be possible to mow there. Please, help us keep the area outside our fences looking nice. Bois d’Arc SLOW. water stained; 67 degrees; 0.08 feet below pool. Morning bass bite has been slow but should pick up soon. Points and flats are fair with moving baits and topwaters like buzz baits and spook type baits. Flukes and Yum dingers are always good around bushes in 2-4 feet. Texas rigs are good out to 6 feet of water in the same bushes. Creature baits rule on this lake. Lake should start to get clear up soon. Report by Marc Mitchell, Lake Fork Guide Service. Crappie are excellent despite the rise in water the clarity is still good. Fish are starting to congregate in 9-25 feet of water along bank lines, brush and timber for a summer pattern. Minnows are best, but some can be caught in jigs. Texoma FAIR. Water stained; 65 degrees; 18.09 feet above pool. Channel and blue catfishing has fired off in the murky flooded waters of Lake Texoma. Flooded willows and rocks in 5-15 feet of water with prepared baits or shad for numbers and good size fish. The striper fishing is inconsistent, dependent on chasing the clear water and each other until things settle. The fish will also move up shallow and in to the trees if we continue to stay at these levels with warmer water temps. Clear water is key and we don’t have any of that right now.. The water clarity is super muddy with lots of floating debris. Check ramp status before heading out.

A Polk County game warden received a call from county dispatch regarding a father and his 9-year-old son who had gotten stuck in their
buggy deep in a deer lease. They attempted to walk back to their camp and got lost in the process. County dispatch was able to ping their location within a threemile radius. Once in the area, the warden was able to follow the tracks to the father and son. Dad commented to the son, “Yeah, might be bad luck being the second time we’ve been stuck together,” as the son responds, “but each time, dad, you were driving.” The warden responded, “you’re a smart kid,” and presented him with a Texas Game Warden badge.

Class 1A Dodd City on May 10 assured its seventh trip at least to the softball regional finals in the last eight complete seasons. Down a game, the Lady Hornets defeated district-rival Ector twice on the day -- 9-7 and 11-5 -- to rally to win a two-day Region II1A semifinal best-ofthree softball series in Bonham.
The series win earned Dodd City a Region II-1A final round meeting with Jonesboro, which had coaches present at the May 10 doubleheader. Jonesboro
defeated Blum, 21-2, in another regional semifinal. In the area round, the Lady Hornets run-ruled Knox City, 14-0, in five innings on May 1 at Wichita Falls City View High School in a one-game round.
Dodd City began its 2025 softball postseason with an 11-5 win over Saltillo at Cooper High School in a one-game bi-district round on April 23. The Lady Hornets qualified for the playoffs -- where they have been every year, starting in 2017 -- as District 11-2A's No. 2 seed.

TRENTON -- Tyrese Keys' time at Trenton High School has not been long. It's been less than a couple of years.
He's made stops elsewhere already in his life including Melissa and Bonham. "I've moved around a lot and finally came across this place, Trenton," said Keys. "It has been so welcoming."
The senior also found that feeling at where he will continue his academic and football careers beyond high school. Keys will play for The College of Wooster in Ohio -something celebrated on May 6 via a signing ceremony in the Trenton High School gymnasium, with family, friends, classmates, coaches and others in attendance. "(Wooster) e-mailed me
first. From there it started," said Keys. "I had a relationship with the coaches.
"I got to go visit a couple of weeks ago. I loved the atmosphere," he said. "They were very welcoming when I visited. "They love everything about their students."
He also noted finding the educational opportunity he desired at Wooster, where he will play wide receiver, in
the secondary and other positions including tight end.
During his lone football season for Trenton, Keys earned a first-team defense selection
in District 6-2A-I in the secondary. Before and afterward, he garnered honorable mentions in 14-2A boys' basketball in 2024 and 2025 while playing for Trenton.
"It's an awesome opportunity and a special moment. It never gets old celebrating when a young athlete gets to go to the next level," said

"He's an amazing young man," said Shipman. "He's a hard worker and very intelligent.
"I'm glad we were able to make him part of our family."
