Who is the Virginia African American Advisory Board (VAAAB): An advisory team of appointed community members, who advise the Governor about issues and strategies to better serve the needs of African Americans in Virginia.
“The Virginia African American Advisory Board was established by Governor Ralph Northam and signed into law on Friday, March 22, 2019”

Survey Purpose
Community Survey Purpose: “The VAAAB Community Survey” is a board initiative to better understand quality of life issues that are a priority for Black folks across the Commonwealth.

“According to the 2010 United States Census, the African American community comprises approximately 19.4% of Virginia’s population. African Americans represent 12.6% of the total United States population.”

Community Survey Importance: Survey data will be used to better ensure that the Board’s recommendations to the Governor are shaped directly from our state’s most knowledgeable source-our community.
