Greater Cleveland Chapter
In 1977, Greater Cleveland Chapter was chartered at the Dayton Area Conference. In the 45 years since, we have been committed to the people of Northeast Ohio. Throughout the 2021-2023 Program Cycle, Greater Cleveland Chapter (GCC) focused on developing our Top Teens, despite the disconnection caused by a global pandemic. GCC collaborated with BN Wellness Group, Inc. on a year long series of leadership development workshops. The Teens worked with Ladies every step of the way, participating in every service activity, including Kwanzaa (both virtual and in person), Family Promise of Greater Cleveland Blended Activity, Pink and Blue Day of Service, Thanksgiving basket assembly and give away, and UNCF Sunday, to name a few.
Status of Women provided opportunities for Ladies to learn inside the confines of chapter meetings and in public. GCC's work with the American Heart Association allowed us to work in the public. We were elated to see Lady Denise Burris' journey to better health highlighted on their instagram page. We branched out to serve additional Women's organizations like Family Promise of Greater Cleveland and Haven Home, committed to helping women and children experiencing homelessness in Greater Cleveland and Zelma Watson George Recreation Center. We also answered the call to address mental health in through our webinar on Managing Your Mental Health.
3
Our Senior Thrust allows us to work with Fairfax Place. This 100 resident senior living facility is special to us for several reasons - its a second generation, black owned facility and it's run by Lady and Lord Pye. Over this program cycle, GCC donated masks and sanitizer; and gifted puzzles and books, Valentine greetings, and socks to residents. We love our seniors and are grateful for the opportunity to spend time with them.
At the forefront of all service is the ability to collaborate with organizations to further the goals of TLOD. GCC has fostered ongoing partnerships with Family Promise, Haven Home, Northeast Ohio Black Health Coalition, Allen Chapel AME Church, BN Wellness, Inc., Fairfax Place, Mt. Have Missionary Baptist Church, NCNW, and others. These Community Partnerships allow us to be a blessing to marginalized communities in Northeast Ohio.
Community Beautification has focused their efforts on beautifying spaces for people in crisis, including Kinsman Road on Cleveland's east side. Picking up trash around the area lets passers by and residents know that GCC cares about them and the neighborhood. We continued on the Family Promise, as part of a blended activity, to revitalize the common outdoor areas for the residents with mulch, flowers, greenery, and love. Our activity shows us that blessing others, becomes the blessing. On this, the occasion of our Sapphire anniversary, we look back from where we've come to chart our way toward the future. Cheers to 45 years!!

It’s the oldest Baptist African American cemetery in Cincinnati, run by the oldest surviving black Baptist congregation in the city. It’s also a monument to at least 120 free black men. During the Civil War, they took up arms and fought as soldiers against a Confederate army that would have kept their people in bondage. TLOD
Cincinnati is working in conjunction with Union Baptist Church to restore the cemetery.

Local NAACP president: "Our Work is Never Done"
There are two units of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People in Butler County after the Hamilton-Fairfield-West Chester unit became inactive.
By Rick McCrabb
Feb 5, 2023
The two NAACP units are located in Middletown and Oxford and their service areas now extend beyond their boundaries to include the parts of unserved Butler and Warren counties. The presidents of those units said the closing of one NAACP unit shouldn’t signal that the goals of the oldest and largest Civil Rights organization have been achieved.
“Our work is never done,” said Fran Jackson, president of the Oxford unit that was founded in 1943 and has 200 members. “There is still so much to do. We are still fighting.”
