Concert Series 2023-2024

Our concert series is a gift to our Naples community by the Friends of Music who generously underwrite the series with sponsorships, which you can read about in the following pages. Churches often enrich their communities with the arts, and our concert series will be among the most dynamic in Southwest Florida.

This year’s slate of concerts continues Trinity’s pattern of presenting wonderful variety of first class performers and instrumentations. Musicians from New York, Philadelphia, London, and Paris will journey to Naples this season. Among our performers include some exciting rising stars of the classical music scene, as well as a GRAMMY nominated artist.

The series is crafted by Trinity-by-the-Cove’s Director of Music, Dexter Kennedy, and is presented in an intimate venue in both size and sound, whether in the church or in the parish hall over looking the water.

Concerts are presented free of charge, with a freewill offering received, but this year we will ask concert goers to register for each concert so that we can plan for adequate seating. General registration will begin on September 22nd; Friends of Music sponsor registration will begin on September 18th.

Read more about this year’s artists, thoughtfully consider being a Friend of Music and sponsoring the series, and mark your calendars for each of our concerts.

Brandon Patrick George is a leading flute soloist and GRAMMY nominated chamber musician whose repertoire extends from the Baroque era to today. He is the flutist of Imani Winds, and has been praised as “elegant” by The New York Times, as a “virtuoso” by The Washington Post, and as a “knockout musician” by The Philadelphia Inquirer. His ensembleworkallowed him to work closely with some of the foremost composers of our time including John Adams, Louis Andriessen, Steve Reich, and George Lewis. He serves on the faculty of the Curtis Institute and the Banff Centre for Arts and Creativity.

Since his debut release in 2013, pianist-composer Aaron Diehl has mystified listeners with his layered artistry. He was named the 2011 Cole Porter fellow of the American Pianist Association, and has been described in the New York Times as “a composer worth watching. He was a finalist in Jazz at Lincoln Center’s 2002 Essentially Ellington competition, which subsequently led to a European tour with Wynton Marsalis. He is equally versed in both jazz and classical performance, having performed in the world’s most celebrated venues of each genre.

As constituents of the global early music community, they regularly join the ranks of such ensembles as Apollo’s Fire, Bach Collegium Japan, Chatham Baroque, Philadelphia Bach Collegium, Tempesta di Mare, Venice Baroque Orchestra, and the Washington Bach Consort. As an ensemble, they share their collective passion for the rich trio repertoire of the 17th and 18th centuries with audiences in Philadelphia, the Delaware River Valley, and beyond. Recent preoccupations include music of Northern Germany and Scandinavia, and cross-cultural music making in Northern Europe.

An opportunity for musical time travel with a concert played on period instruments!

“AMOR DILETTO”

Sunday, February 4th

4 p.m.—Parish Hall

Fuoco Obbligato is the period instrument chamber ensemble of Paris’s Opera Fuoco, an organization that focuses on developing young singers transitioning from conservatory to professional life. In this program celebrating love from the baroque opera repertoire, Fuoco Obbligato brings together some of the most beautiful arias for soprano, tenor and baroque instruments. These arias often capture the most intimate moments of a larger-scale work, perfectly reflecting this human emotion. The dialogue between the singer and the instrumental soloist is nuanced and reveals the complexities of love. The program reflects many emotions - everything from sensuality and languishing melancholy to cheeky humor and outright theatricality.

Amor is both a piercing bowman and a playful cherub, a devastating tempter of fate and a forgivable joiner of hearts. The program ends with thedelightful duet from Handel’s pastoral ode, a reassuring philosophical contemplation of the purity of the heart winning over the fanciful mind.
