FOR COMPRESSORS TJEP has many years of experience selling compressors to the construction industry.

Many faults can be resolved over the phone, so if you have problems, please call us before sending in the product for service. Below you will find a number of tips for using compressors.

Do not use extension cables or use only a strong extension cable

Regardless of the compressor type, it is extremely important to use a separate fuse group. If the compressor will not start, the cause is usually too low a voltage, due to an extension cable that is too long/thin, other consumers on the same fuse or a cable reel that is not fully unwound.

We recommend at least the following: • Extension cables up to 10 m → 3 x 1.5 mm² • Extension cables up to 20 m → 3 x 2.5 mm² • Compressors ≤ 1.5 HP → min. 10A dedicated fuse • Compressors 2–3 HP → min. 13A dedicated fuse or 400V/230V adapter

Drain the tank

The compressor tank must be drained of condensate daily to avoid water in the hoses and guns and to prevent rust flakes from blocking the check valve, etc.

Drain water from the tank in the middle and at the end of each day.

Always switch off the compressor via the switch on the pressostat

If you unplug a compressor during operation, it will not be able to start up again until the switch on the pressostat has been switched off. If the power is still connected, there is a high risk that the compressor will burn out and the entire motor will need to be replaced.

Check the pressure

Always check both manometers (tank and outlet pressure) when checking the pressure of a compressor. If the tank pressure is high enough, the compressor should not be used. If no pressure is delivered to the tool, adjust the pressure control valve.

Clean the check valve

If the compressor is running but not building pressure, this may be due to contamination in the check valve. It can also be caused by a leak in the system or in the

pressure relief valve. Pull the ring on the pressure relief valve once to make sure it can move.

Operating time

A compressor is designed to run at intervals with a maximum total operating time of 30 minutes per hour to ensure proper cooling. Failure to follow these intervals will cause excessive wear to the compressor’s vital components. Always follow the instructions in the manual and learn how to use the compressor correctly.

Thermal fuse

TJEP compressors are equipped with one of two types of thermal fuses, which automatically stop the compressor in case of overheating. This is a safety feature and should remind the user to think about whether the compressor needs a service or if the compressor is too small to handle the required task and is therefore running too much.

To re-engage the compressor, proceed as follows: • Wait for the compressor to cool down (approx. 10 min).

• Turn the switch on the pressostat to the “OFF” position and then back to “ON/Auto”.

• If the compressor has a reset button, activate it.

Repeated tripping of the thermal fuse and ignoring the operation/pause requirement will ultimately lead to a burned out compressor.

Oil free or oil filled

With an oil free compressor, you must be aware of how long the compressor runs to fill the tank. If it runs for longer than usual, this may indicate that the piston rings have worn and need to be replaced.

With an oil filled compressor, be sure to check the oil level weekly and top up when necessary.

Remember also that oil filled compressors must have the transport plug removed and the dipstick inserted before first use.

Oil filled compressors must be transported upright to avoid the oil draining out.

Upright or horizontal

Only use the compressor in the intended position. The incorrect position will cause defects in the connected tool.
