AUX Architecture
The project is a multi-phase addition to the Wende Museum campus in Culver City’s cultural corridor. Phase I consists of a new Creative Community Center. Phase II will be affordable housing. The Creative Community Center is a 7,000 sq. ft. multi-purpose building designed for a variety of activities including performances, exhibits, and civic activities, and will become a gathering place for the community. Designed as an extension of the existing Wende gardens, the building is a series of concrete terraces with green roofs that terrace up from the existing park. Each of the levels is interconnected with an existing 2,000 sq. ft. A-frame building through the use of an architectural screen that seamlessly joins old and new. The center will maintain and establish operational, meeting, and educational space for community partners including the United States Veterans’ Artist Alliance, Culver City Unified School District, the Mayme A. Clayton Library and Museum, and Upward Bound House.

A private art gallery for a 100 unit housing community in Shanghai, China. It was one of four amenity spaces we designed throughout the community. The program included a gallery space, lounge, bar, wine room, and courtyard sculpture garden.

This is a mixed-use TOC project designed for the pedestrian experience. It includes low income housing, retail and commercial space. Concrete masses that support the building are pushed back at street level to make room for landscaping. Five levels of housing include 40 market-rate units and 6 one and 6 two-bedroom affordable housing units. There are over 4,000 sq. ft. for commercial space and amenities, including a fitness center, parking and a roof terrace.

Hygeia Lot 3
The Brown Studio
Hygeia Lot 3 was a spec. home located in Encinitas, California. My role in this project was to develope the kitchen, bathrooms, stair, and miscellaneous steel. The kitchen features a double island, one that host the stove, oven and bar seating. While the other has operable windows and flanking doors that allow it to seamlessly be used by the exterior patio. The stair features a banker wire balustrade that carries up to the second floor.

Homestead House
The Homestead House was a renovation project for a 1920’s single family residence located in Plymouth county California. The goal was to develop a cost effective modern esthetic to entice a short term rental clientel. This was achieved by exposing the existing wood round beams and vaulting ceiling to open the living room along with dinning and kitchen area. As the project was being developed there was some programmatic decisions that changed the layout of the building. Since the house would be used by a short-term occupant instead of a long term ranch worker, the mudroom transitioned to a larger dining area and a second bathroom.

The Kid Gets Out of The Picture

The Kid Gets Out of the Picture is a contemporary update on the aesthetic principles of early 19th century English landscape architecture. By the earlynineteenth century, practitioners of the English picturesque had invented a catalog of objects (follies, ha-has, viewpoints) that worked to produce the pictorial effects of landscape painting within real space. Lumps, clumps, and masses made it possible, in a sense, to occupy the picture.
The Kid Gets Out of the Picture was a three-month long exhibition that returns to the catalog of nouns developed by the picturesque to ask how these tactics can be deployed in reverse, extracting the qualities of images and literalizing them in the real world.
My role in this project was to see the completion of the fabrication and construction. This involved on site management of piecing the installation together along with developing techniques for the application of the plaster surface.

The Ark

The Ark is a office tenant improvement, designed to define spaces by separating the work areas and lobby from the meeting rooms, restrooms, and material library. The ark consists of 21 plywood ribs that vary in distance to allow for multiple operations. The voids are either in filled with glass, used as entries, or used as shelving.

We were hired to install a mural on the northern facade of a new residential building in Barrio Logan, San Diego
The goal of project was to pay homage to Cesar Chavez by connecting to the murals of Barrio Logan. Through the use of Grasshopper we were able to develope a script that takes an image and turns it into a Red-Cyan 3-D image. Our design proceeded through many different variations, controlling the depth of the effect and how it was to be represented. The final product was laser cut into a stencil and painted on one layer at a time. This project was featured in the September 2014 issue of Dwell Magazine.
