Clonmel Celebrates European Darts Champion at Mayoral Reception
On Thursday evening, the historic chambers of Clonmel Town Hall were filled with pride as Mayor Cllr Michael Murphy hosted a special Mayoral reception in honour of local darts sensation Aidan O’Hara. The young sportsman, who captained Ireland to victory at the WDF European Darts Championship in Latvia this past July, was recognised for his outstanding achievements in what has already been a glittering start to his career. The event brought together local councillors, former mayors, family members, and fellow sports enthusiasts to celebrate Aidan’s success. The atmosphere in the chamber, which dates back to 1881, was electric, reflecting not only the town’s pride in their young champion but also their long standing tradition of supporting local talent.
Opening the evening, Mayor Murphy welcomed guests, including Cllr John Fitzgerald, former Mayor Cllr Richie Molloy, and Aidan’s parents, Dad Gerry and Mum Sandra, along with many other notable figures from the local darts community. The Mayor set the tone for the night by reflecting on the growing number of sports heroes emerging from Clonmel, saying, “I must be the luckiest Mayor in Ireland. Recently, I’ve welcomed an Olympic bronze medallist, a world champion rower, five world champion dancers and now, a European champion in darts, in such a short time as Mayor. It’s an
incredible honour to recognise Aidan’s achievements.”
He continued, “Aidan’s triumph in Latvia, where he captained the Irish team to gold on July 13th, is a monumental achievement, and one we’re all extremely proud of. Tonight is a celebration of Aidan’s dedication, his skill, and the spirit of sportsmanship he has embodied throughout his young career.”
The Mayor’s speech paid tribute not only to Aidan but to all those who helped him along his journey. He warmly welcomed Aidan’s teammate, Callum Cole from Cork, and team manager, Paddy Cullen from Carlow, who were both present to share in the celebration. “Though Callum is from Cork,” Murphy joked, “we love Cork people in Tipperary, and tonight we extend a very warm Clonmel welcome to him.” Murphy also acknowledged the contributions of those behind the scenes who have helped build a thriving darts community in Tipperary. “I want to take a moment to champion the local darts structure that we have here in Clonmel and across Tipperary,” he said. “Mick Smith, in particular, has been a positive force in Tipperary darts. I had the pleasure of meeting Mick when we welcomed Aidan home to Kate Ryan’s, and many spoke that night about his enormous contribution to the sport.”
A lighter moment followed when
the Mayor mentioned a story he heard that evening about Mick Smith throwing the first nine darter in Clonmel, though he joked “I’m not sure if that’s true!”
The Mayor’s praise didn’t stop there, as he invited another local darts star, Christina Ina Byrne, to stand and take a bow. Christina was the first person from Clonmel to win a gold medal in darts, and the Mayor’s recognition of her achievement underscored Clonmel’s growing status as a centre for darts excellence.
“Darts is a sport that requires incredible focus and resilience,” Murphy noted. “And Aidan, you’ve shown both in abundance. But beyond the skill, what stands out to me is your exceptional character. I have no doubt that your success as a player, a teammate, and a captain will serve you well in the years to come, not only in darts but in all aspects of life.”
Following the Mayor’s heartfelt words, Cllr John Fitzgerald and former Mayor Cllr Richie Molloy took the floor, echoing the sentiments of pride and admiration. Both councillors stressed that the Mayoral reception was the highest honour the council could bestow and that Aidan’s achievements, and those of his teammates, were more than deserving of such recognition. They wished Aidan continued success in his sporting journey.
Team manager Paddy Cullen was next to speak. He expressed
his gratitude to the Mayor and the council for the recognition, adding, “People outside of darts probably don’t realise how big the sport has become in Ireland. There are so many young people getting involved, and it’s incredible to see the talent coming through. Aidan and Callum are perfect examples of what we can achieve with the right support and dedication.”
One of the evening’s most emotional moments came when Aidan’s father, Gerry O’Hara, took to the podium. Speaking on behalf of his family, Gerry expressed deep gratitude for the evening’s honour and praised the local community for the support they had shown Aidan over the years. “Aidan’s interest in darts started at a very young age,” he recalled, “and he spent a lot of time travelling to events with me. From the early days with the Tipperary Youths Darts Team to now captaining Ireland to European glory, it’s been an incredible journey.”
Gerry took the opportunity to thank several key figures who had been instrumental in Aidan’s development, including Mick Smith, Johnny Allen, Fran Sheehan, Paddy O’Donoghue, Davy Fitzgerald, Joe O Donoghue, and Christine Byrne, who helped run a Tuesday night darts club that gave Aidan valuable practice time. “Darts is an expensive sport, with a lot of travel involved,” Gerry added.
“Without the help of fundraising,
raffles, and donations, it would have been impossible for us to get to these events. We’re so grateful to everyone who has supported us.”
Finally, the man of the moment, Aidan O’Hara, stood to address the audience. Clearly moved by the occasion, Aidan began by thanking the Mayor and the council for the honour, saying, “It’s a massive privilege to be here tonight. I’m absolutely blown away by the reception I’ve received.” He went on to thank his family, friends, and everyone who had supported him on his journey.
“Without you, I wouldn’t have been able to pursue my passion for darts. You’ve all played a huge role in helping me get to where I am today.”
Aidan gave special thanks to his manager, Paddy Cullen, and the Irish National Darts Organisation (INDO) for their support, as well as to his teammate, Callum Cole, who hit the crucial double that secured the European title.
He concluded by expressing his gratitude to everyone who had fundraised and organised raffles, noting how their efforts had made it possible for him to compete at the highest levels.
The evening concluded with Mayor Murphy presenting Aidan with a certificate in recognition of his Mayoral reception, a moment that marked the culmination of a night filled with pride, gratitude,
and celebration.
Clonmel Darts Team Seeks Sponsorship to Continue Their Success.
As the evening’s festivities wound down, attention turned to the future of the Clonmel darts team. With such a strong foundation and undeniable talent, the team is eager to build on their success. However, the costs of competing on the national and European stage are significant, and the team is now seeking sponsorship to help alleviate the financial burden. Sponsoring the Clonmel darts team presents a unique opportunity for local businesses to gain exposure while supporting local talent. These young athletes, already wearing the Irish jersey with pride, have achieved so much in a short space of time. A sponsorship deal would not only benefit the players but also offer companies a chance to align with a sport that’s rapidly growing in popularity.
If you or your business is interested in sponsoring the Clonmel darts team, please contact Gerry O’Hara or Paddy O’Donoghue on 086 101 0066. With the right support, these athletes can continue to make Clonmel and Ireland proud on the world stage. In the heart of Clonmel, a new generation of champions is rising, and with the backing of their community, their future looks brighter than ever. Report by Clonmel Stories.

Kilcash Village unveils lifesaving defibrillator thanks to community efforts
Kilcash village is celebrating the installation of its very own lifesaving Automated External Defibrillator (AED), now located on the exterior of the community centre. The arrival of this critical piece of equipment has been made possible through the tireless efforts of local resident Pauline Harvey, whose determination to bring this vital resource to the village has culminated in its recent installation.
Pauline worked relentlessly to ensure Kilcash would have access to a defibrillator, seeking donations and support from various sources. One of the most significant contributions came from Anne Williams of MSD Ballydine, who, according to Pauline, played a pivotal role in securing the necessary funding. “Ann was a huge help,” Pauline said, “Her support and encouragement made the dream of having a defibrillator in Kilcash a reality.”
Speaking about the importance of the defibrillator, Pauline highlighted the profound impact it could have in a medical emergency. “It’s been said, ‘it takes a village to save a life,’ and that’s exactly what we’ve done here. On average, about 50 people in Ireland suffer sudden cardiac arrest every week, and only 1 in 10 survive. Having an AED readily available could make the difference between life and death for someone in our community.”
Sudden cardiac arrest can strike without warning, and immediate access to a defibrillator combined with CPR can greatly improve survival chances. The AED in Kilcash provides an essential resource for the village, ensuring that residents and visi-
David Keogh, also of MSD Ballydine, officially handed over the AED to the village, marking a significant achievement for the entire community. The device is now fully operational and available 24 hours a day, should an emergency occur.
tors alike have access to lifesaving equipment when every second counts.
Thanks to Pauline’s initiative, the defibrillator is positioned at the heart of the village on the community centre wall, where it is easily accessible to all. It’s a comforting reassurance for the people of Kilcash, knowing that in the event of a sudden cardiac emergency, they now have the tools to help save a life.
Pauline also emphasised the importance of ongoing education in CPR and AED use. “We’re fortunate to live in a village with such a wonderful sense of community spirit. Everyone has worked together to make Kilcash a safer, better place to live and work. While we all hope the defibrillator is never needed, it gives us peace of mind to know that it’s there, ready to help in an emergency. Through ongoing CPR and defibrillator training, we’re creating a village of lifesavers.”
The support from the wider community has been nothing short of extraordinary. Pauline expressed her heartfelt gratitude to all those who contributed, especially the team at MSD Ballydine. “I cannot thank Anne, David, and everyone at MSD Ballydine enough for their generosity and support. Their contribution has ensured that Kilcash is prepared for emergencies, and for that, we’re all incredibly grateful.”
The addition of the defibrillator is a testament to what can be achieved when a community comes together. Kilcash can now proudly say that they are equipped to respond to cardiac emergencies, and it’s all thanks to the incredible efforts of Pauline Harvey and the outpouring of support from local individuals and businesses.
In the words of Pauline, “It takes a village to save a life, and in Kilcash, we’ve made that a reality.”

Fethard Heritage Day Festiv
On Sunday, August 25, Fethard Heritage Day Festival was held at Watergate, beside the Medieval Town Wall Park where an attendance in excess of 3,000 turned out to enjoy the entertainment which included the annual Fancy Dress Parade, a recital from Banna Chluain Meala, and a variety of over forty food and craft stalls, accompanied by free children’s shows and general family entertainment suitable for all ages. We had many new additions to our line-up this year which was much appreciated by the large crowd present.
We noticed an increase in participation from our local Ukrainian population – both in craft stalls, participation and attendance – which was very welcome. We also collaborated with our local Patrician Presentation Secondary School to hold a ‘Past
Pupils Open Day’ on Saturday, July 24, which encouraged many more people to visit Fethard and stay for the weekend to take in both events, meeting their old school friends.
The very popular Banna Chluain Meala, led the Fancy Dress Parade from the starting point – changed this year to the Cashel Road, opposite Fethard Ballroom, to alleviate traffic jams. The parade then made its way up along Main Street, and down Watergate to the Festival site by Fethard’s Medieval Town Wall, where they later gave a recital while the judging took place. The weather was also good with just one or two short light showers, which didn’t interfere with people’s enjoyment.
We maintained our promise of a great family fun day with an affordable and safe location,
free entertainment and local participation, emphasising our community ‘ownership’ of the festival. We strongly feel that this was very much appreciated and acknowledged by the large attendance. We also reaped the rewards of linking our event to the Heritage Council’s National Heritage Week, which attracted a large group of visitors to our Medieval Walled Town by the available walking tours provided over the weekend by the Fethard Historical Society.
Fethard & Killusty Community Council would like to acknowledge the support of Tipperary County Council, The Civil Defence Service, Garda Síochána, The Heritage Council, Coolmore Stud, Fethard Community Employment Scheme, Fethard Ballroom, Fethard Historical Society, Tim Robinson, and the
many other individuals, local businesses and organisations who helped in any way to make this year’s event possible. We sincerely thank the many craft and trade stands that attended this year’s event and local businesses who donated raffle prizes and sponsored individual children’s events and local councillors Michael Brennan, Mark Fitzgerald and Imelda Goldsboro.
We also acknowledge the wonderful members of Fethard Festival Committee who worked tirelessly and gathered on a weekly basis for the past few months to ensure plans were in place for another successful Heritage Day Festival this year.
We are most appreciative and look forward to working again with our present ‘Festival Committee’ and their infectious enthusiasm in 2025.

Pathways to Employment training open for new students in Spafield
One of the most popular courses available through the Tipperary Education and Training Board in recent years, has been the “Pathways to Employment” training, which commences its next intake in two weeks’ time, and still has a small number of places to fill. The course is part of the Local Training Initiative programme, and overseen by two very industrious ladies, Betty Coughlan and Ann O Shaughnessy.
For years, attaining the Leaving Certificate was seen as the only real acceptable level of education for students, but in recent times, there’s been a realisation that students can also benefit as much from learning practical skills,
both workplaces based and in terms of personal development.
This is what the Pathways Program does, and instead of subjects like geography and chemistry, instead teaches the finer points of word processing, or marketing and sales, as well as the even more important “soft skills” of team work and communication. There are also a wide variety of students who embark on this kind of training, from teens who have decided the usual academic path is not to their liking, to mature students who are looking to learn skills or upskill. All of this gets done in a small sized classroom environment, where students are encouraged to co-operate
together in both individual and group work, rather than just learn by rote.
The reviews from past students all attest to the wonderful work that Betty and Ann, along with the other dedicated tutors do, and in many cases students have gone straight from the course into employment, after completing outside work experience. If you are interested in finding out more about the Pathways to Employment training, or know someone who might be, then contact Betty or Ann @ 087-9048015, or Spafield Resource centre. It could be a phone call that could start a whole new pathway in your career and life.
Caiseal Comhrá continues after Summer recess and encourages new members
BY LIAM BROWNE
The long tradition of Irish speaking in the historic town of Caiseal Mumhan will continue next week, when the “Comhrá Cois Tine” restarts after its Summer recess, back in the wonderful surroundings of the library in Bailey’s Hotel on Main Street. And once again the gealgóirí are hoping to see some new faces who might bring some new ideas and chat, to liven up the proceedings. There are no set structures to the nights when the group meets. If anything, those who attend are at pains to point out that it is as far from “school” as one might get, with everyone encouraged to use as much or as little of the language that they possess. Usually, the topics of the day are what end
up being chatted about, though like all good conversations, they try to steer clear of the two taboos of politics and religion.
Though not always, as both subjects are often encountered in a light hearted way. And that is what makes the group successful, that it makes the chat fun rather than a lesson. That said, all of the participants are more than happy to help out those who want to learn the language, or as is often the case, to help a speaker remember more of what they learned in the past, and thought they forgot. The conversation takes a life of its own and flows informally for the hour and a half or two while the group meets, but anyone wishing to stay on less or longer are more
than welcome to do so.
They meet on Monday nights, from 8pm, and usually finishing at 9:30pm, though if the chat is good, they people have often stayed on. They would really love to see some new members, so if you want a new social night out,
why not join with the enthusiastic group of Irish speakers, who will ensure that there will be a hearty Cead Míle Fáilte extended. If you need any more information, contact Sean on 086-0757243.

Fantastic fun and family day planned for Rosegreen
Rosegreen Community Development Committee are hosting their annual field day next Sunday, 15th of September, at Nijinsky Park in the village, and once again promises a great day of fun for families of all ages. There will be the usual Bouncy Castles, Hurling and Soccer challenges, and the chance to drop a local into the Dunk Tank, as well as all kinds of showground games. For the sporty inclined, the local GAA club has organised a large underage hurling blitz, where the skills of the future GAA stars will be on show. And for those who have turned one eye towards the winter, as always one of the most important events of the day, will be the Monster auction at 4pm, where trailer loads of the finest firewood will go under the hammer. The local community group use the proceeds of the day to pay for and upgrade facilities in the village, and have done huge work in recent years, which is a credit to all involved. A good attendance on the day, will help the committee continue this. The fun kicks off at 1pm, so get there early, and make sure you don’t miss out.

Farmers Market Supporting Tidy Towns
Cahir Tidy Towns
The Group is starting to wind down for the autumn but the begonias and rest of the summer planting is still doing well. The visitor numbers are still doing very well in the town and we look forward to a bumper crowd around town for the 10 Annual Cahir Tradfest taking place this weekend. We will have people on the ground on litter patrol to make sure the visitors leave with a lasting impression of the town.
We would like to thank the Cahir Farmers Market for their generous donation to the group. The market makes an annual contribution towards the planting in the town and we are very grateful to them. Weed control and the cutting back of wildflower and briars along the Swiss Walk and in the Inch Field are on the cards this week and also some preparation works to get areas ready for tree planting in the autumn.
We have received news that we have been successful for a ‘Trees of the Land’ contribution that is given to plant native Irish hedgerows in areas of the town where required and which we are delighted with. Thanks also to the many Ukraine residents that have joined the group recently and can be seen out and about litter picking and weeding along with our group and on their own steam.
We meet again as normal on Wednesday at 7pm and during the week as needs be.

Cahir Park Juniors - the Junior A Team had their third league game of the season at home to St. Michaels last Sunday, September 8. difficult fixture away from home, that day was no different. An extremely competitive match, our lads started the stronger. Good movement, both on and off the ball led to a good ball being played through for Jack Noonan on 20 mins. Jack was brought down in the box and the resulting penalty was slotted home by James Grant. Sadly our lead was to be short lived, with Peake equalising 5 minutes later with a fine strike, leaving it 1-1 at half time. However, the second half was all Cahir. Lads were on top from the kick off. Our second goal was scored again by James Grant, a great finish. Game finished up 2-1 to Cahir. Referees Man of the match was James Grant. Poetry Plus returns after its summer hiatus
BY EDDIE READE
For over ten years now, poetry plus has taken place in the splendid surrounds of The Brewery Lane Theatre in Carrick. The evenings are run by the highly talented local author, Margaret O Brien. Poetry Plus is an open mic event that allows lovers of the format to recite some of their own favourite pieces by other poets, a short piece of prose or indeed to offer the room some
of their own personal writings. The attendees come from all around the hinterland of Carrick and Margaret stresses that new bodies are always welcomed and encouraged. If you wish to brighten up the encroaching darkening evenings, with some light refreshments, a chat and a bit of poetry or prose then please take note of the dates below. The evenings start at 8 p.m. and there is the small cost
of €5 to attend, just to cover the costs of the building and the refreshments.
Friday October 4th.
Friday November 1st. Friday December 13th.
The lady behind Poetry Plus
Margaret is a former lecturer in English and creative writing in W.I.T. ( now SETU). She is an accomplished and talented published author, with works published across many platforms by companies such as Arlen House, Beir Bua, Hinterland and
many others. Since the opening of the Artisan Hub, a stone’s throw away from the town’s Tudor Manor, Margaret has worked on several successful and inspiring pieces with Linda Fahey and a host of other talented artists. Being one of the lucky ones to be on Margaret’s email list, I have gotten a sense of the brilliance of the lady. One need only seek out and read “Weather Report, a 90 day journal for reflection and well-being” to understand the depths of her talent. The book is available online or from independent bookstores and of course in the Tudor Artisan Hub.
150th Anniversary celebrations near
In 1874, the Reverend Dr Fitzgerald, parish priest of Carrickon-Suir invited the Sisters of Mercy in Wexford to establish a foundation in the town. Four sisters duly arrived and set up at New Street. Meanwhile a building known as the Red House, which had once been the town house of the Wall family of Coolnamuck was prepared as the convent. The late Maurice O Donnell had donated this property. When the sisters moved to Main Street, they were pioneers in providing second level education in the town for girls. In 1885, St Joseph’s National School began in Mill Street before moving in 1887 to Greystone St. At that time, many families in the town lived in dire poverty, so breakfast and midday meals were provided for the children as well as footwear and clothing in many cases. In addition, sisters visited homes, nursing the sick and dying.
In 1878, at the request of the Poor Law Guardians, the sisters took over responsibility for the hospital attached to the workhouse. This building was located on the site of Treacy Park until it was destroyed by fire in 1922. From 1886, the sisters also ran the Workhouse school for girls under 14. One of the works dear to the foundress of the Mercy sisters, Catherine McAuley was the House of Mercy. This was an institution to train girls to prepare them for skilled employment and homemaking duties. In 1890, the Carrick-on-Suir House of Mercy was set up at Deerpark on the Clonmel road. In 1894, the father of one of the sisters donated premises on Greystone Street. This had been in use as a
creamery and store. The sisters purchased handlooms and knitting machines which also provided employment to young women. A public laundry was also established known as the Spring Park laundry which continued in operation until the outbreak of World War II. In the early 20th century, the House of Mercy had ceased to exist and it was replaced by Saint Joseph’s Technical College (established under Department of Education)
Later this school became known as St Joseph’s Residential College of Domestic Science where young women from all over Ireland came here to train in preparation for entrance to domestic science colleges in Sion Hill and Cathal Brugha Street. It was also seen as training for wives of farmers! St Joseph’s closed in 1991, and the building was recently demolished to provide the site of the new Gael Scoil. Foundations were established from the Mercy order in Carrick on Suir until the 1960s.. These included Gore in New Zealand, Mansfield in Victoria, Australia and later foundations in El Cerrito and Los Altos CA. Meanwhile, on Main Street, the second level school, Scoil Mhuire and a junior school, St Anne’s, continued to flourish and eventually a boarding school was also established. In 1925, Scoil Mhuire was awarded the prestigious Government shield for Oral Irish. The number of pupils increased, with enrolment at the boarding school at one point exceeding 120 students, leading to the addition of more buildings, dormitories, and classrooms in the 1940s and
1950s.
Following the introduction of free secondary education in 1967, a decision was made to build a new secondary school on a greenfield site at Greenhill. Greenhill included a house and farm that had been donated many years earlier by a parent of a member of the community. It was also decided to merge with the Presentation Sisters, with secondary education being managed by the Sisters of Mercy at Scoil Mhuire in Greenhill, and primary education being taken over by the Presentation Sisters at Greenside.
Saint Annes Junior School amalgamated with Saint Josephs National School on Greystone St in the late 1960s. In 1974, Scoil Mhuire opened at Greenhill and the boarding school was phased out in the following years. In 1974, the principal was Sr Benedict Andrews and Ms Helen O Mahony was vice principal with 590 students enrolled.
In 1991, Scoil Mhuire’s first lay principal, Mr Fergus Dunne was appointed. In 1992 the Main Street convent closed its doors, and the community moved to a new convent at Greenhill.
Another new chapter in the history of the school saw the transfer of trusteeship to CEIST. Scoil Mhuire continues to develop with a reputation for high academic standards, sporting success and a welcoming and pastoral approach for all of students.
In this 150 th celebration year, 486 students are enrolled with Ms Mary O Keeffe as principal, assisted by Ms Michelle Sullivan, deputy principal. Programmes on offer in the school include the Junior Cycle, Transition year programme, traditional

Carrick United Under 15A League Opener
On Monday night last, the all-conquering under 14 side from last year stepped up to under 15 A for their first league game. This was always going to be a tricky start for the boys against a well drilled Villa side and missing some of their regular starting squad members but the home side in Cul Na Muc showed no nerves and played a great passing game when going forward with both wingers striding forward with purpose and determination. The back four stood their ground heroically when under pressure and saw off any and every thing that Villa could throw at them. As half time neared Carrick were piling on the pressure and had pushed forward for a free kick when Villa broke on a smart counter attack. The Carrick defence was caught in a one on one situation and a mistimed
tackle on the onrushing Villa attacker saw the Carrick defender pick up a straight red. Carrick regrouped and reset, seeing out the first half scoreless. The second half stayed even for almost twenty five minutes but the relentless pressure from Villa saw the ten men finally crack and in the space of fifteen minutes they conceded three times. The goals in fairness were all top class finishes and not much could be done by the tiring home side to prevent them. It was a hard game for the team to kick off their league campaign, but one where they showed that the step up from B to A league is one that they are more than capable of taking and there were plenty of positives for managers Anthony O Donnell and Ian Clery to take away from the evening.

High praise for finished Shane MacGowan mural in Nenagh
Tipperary town-based artist Neil O’Dwyer completed his Shane MacGowan mural in Nenagh earlier this week and reactions to the finished piece have been nothing short of spectacular both locally and abroad.
Neil posted to social media upon completion of the project saying:
“Just completed one of the most enjoyable projects that I’ve had the honour of ever being part of.
“This mural tribute to master songsmith Shane MacGowan in his home town of Nenagh, was commissioned by Tipperary County Council.
“When designing the mural I wanted to portray a mature Shane as the performer, in a way that has each observer guessing as to what he might be thinking.
“The Celtic Shield designs represents protection and love, and the red rose represents the ‘Red Roses For Me’ album, and the fact that Shane loved roses. The scarf includes references to ‘Fairytale of New York’ with Kirsty MacColl, the Pogues, the
Pogue Mahone logo, Shane and Victoria, his parents Maurice and Therese, with his sister Siobhan, and his maternal relatives, the Lynches.
“The dark and vivid colouring is a nod to the Celtic Punk background that was Shane’s.
“Also, many thanks to Siobhan, Rosemary, Melanie and Odhran for their contributions to this project.”
The reactions to the finished piece have been stellar in their praise.
One social media user wrote “Well done, your work is amazing, you captured everything!
Such a lovely tribute to Shane and his family and all of us who loved him.”
Another said “Really incredible work Neil, so proud to have this masterpiece in our town.”
Shane MacGowan’s sister, Siobhan, wrote to Neil: “Truly beautiful, Can’t thank you enough for this stunning tribute”
The finished piece can now be seen on the gable end of a prominent building at Emmet Place just off Mitchell Street in Nenagh.

Jobs on the way at innovative plant outside Thurles
Trifol Resources has announced the creation of up to 400 new jobs in Lanespark, Ballynonty, over the coming years at the site of the former Bord na Mona briquette factory.
The plant already employs 15 people and this will double to 30 in 2025, the company has said this week, much to the delight of the local workforce.
Expansion plans are already in
place to add 12 more reactors to the plant which recycles waste plastic and this will increase the number of people employed to 70 by 2030 following projections. Some 45 people have already been involved in the build out of the plant over the last two years.
Commercial production commenced at the Lanespark plant last June and now agreements have been reached with Shell
Thurles Sarsfields sow the seeds for a third pitch
Famed Thurles Sarsfields GAA club is delighted to have completed their second pitch at Toor, Killinan in recent months.
Following the development of the first pitch at the venue which is now being used extensively by all men and ladies teams in the club, Sarsfields embarked upon the development of the second pitch at Toor towards the end of the summer. Now, it’s down to nature to take its course and for the grass seeds to provide the sward upon which further games will be played next season.
The facilities have greatly enhanced the clubs infrastructure with The Outside Field getting great relief from all the use it had been subject-
ed to for so many years. That pitch remains a mainstay of the club activities with the Árus na Sáirsealaigh clubhouse adjacent to it, under the shadow of Semple Stadium. And, with camogie and ladies football teams now part and parcel of Thurles Sarsfields it was vital that additional grass space was secured and developed. The hard working committee made the decision a few years ago to purchase the site at Toor and after much fundraising the dream was realised, even though it will take great efforts to complete the venue in the coming years.
The club extends a big thanks to all volunteers and supporters for making this happen.
Chemicals Europe to purchase all of Trifol’s ‘Pyrolysis’ oil, and further agreements have been made with the German giant H&R (Hansen und Rosenthal) to purchase Trifol’s sustainable wax, which is also produced in the pyrolysis production.
Minister for Finance Jack Chambers said: “I am delighted that these jobs are being created in what was once a Bord Na Móna briquette factory.
These 75 new green tech jobs show that there is an economic benefit transitioning to a more sustainable economy. It also shows that we can achieve balanced regional development, something which I and my Government colleagues are deeply committed to.” News of the expansion has been warmly welcomed by public representatives and all in the locality.

Club Spirit at its best in Thurles RFC
As the new season begins, Thurles RFC members were delighted to meet up with the U13 and U14 boys squads in the clubhouse for a very special presentation.
This season, Thurles RFC will field a stand alone U13 Boys Team that will take part in blitz’s and friendlies over the next few months.
To mark this special occasion, some parents of the U13 players
clubbed together to purchase a brand new set of match jerseys. The club would like to extend a huge thank you to Brian Quigley, Michael Carroll and Pat Finnegan, who sponsored the jerseys for the U13s. The new jersey’s are a throwback to the original Thurles jersey and are a lovely reminder of the Thurles tops of years gone by.
Pictured at the presentation are Eamon Quigley, Harry Carroll
and Charlie Finnegan who were part of a very successful U12 team that travelled to Wales earlier this year for the North Wales Rugby Festival. These young men from Ballingarry are making great strides in their rugby careers in Thurles RFC.
Training continues every Tuesday and Thursday for the U13s and U14s, and new players are always welcome.
The Dúrlas Óg U13 hurling teams battled very hard in the mid finals at Holycross on Saturday morning, but had no luck with either game unfortunately.
The Group 4 team fell to hosts Holycross Ballycahill despite a very good first half showing, while the Division 3 team had to give best to Clonakenny in the second match on the clár for the day.
There was great support for the two teams and the boys played their hearts out. But, success was not to be their lot despite their gallant efforts. Nevertheless the management team and the club delighted in the spirit and sportsmanship shown by the lads who never gave up the chase and who did themselves proud.

Death of former Councillor and Mayor of Tipperary
BY MARTIN QUINN
The death has occurred of former Tipperary Town Councillor and former Mayor of Tipperary, Mary Swords. Mary passed away at Tipperary University Hospital on Thursday September 5th following an illness. She was pre deceased by her husband John. I had the great pleasure of being a very close friend of Mary, and over 30 years our lives have been intertwined through family occasions and community events. Mary held the role of Honorary Mayor of Tipperary before being elected to Tipperary Town Council in 2004. She was re-elected to Tipperary Town Council in 2009 and in that year was elected Mayor of Tipperary. She had the honour during that year of according a Civic Reception to the Republic of Ireland Team Soccer Manager, Giovanni Trapattoni, when he visited Tipperary Town in August 2009. Aside of her role as a Councillor, I think that Mary will be most remembered as a community activist. Her involvement as a presenter on Tipperary Mid West Community
Radio and her ‘Life and Times’ programme will be remembered by many as she interviewed people from many different disciplines and fields. She was also a well know stage performer locally and appeared in many different productions by Tipperary Musical Society and Tipperary Pantomime Society. Mary played an important role in the work of Tipperary Peace Convention and was part of the welcoming committee for the many recipients of the Tipperary International Peace Award. Her community involvement spread to many different organisations and projects and she served on the Famine Hostel Committee, and she took great pride in her involvement in the St. John’s Famine Graveyard Committee.
Many young people will recall her involvement with me in the Tops of the Youth Clubs Committee, where we enjoyed organising the Regional and National Tops Shows presented by youth clubs from across the country. Mary also gave great service as a member of the Board of the Canon Hayes Recreation Centre, and she was a wonderful ticket
seller for both the Sports Complex and the Community Radio. She also joined me in the Friends of Mount Sion Support Group and was a wonderful support in the organising of the Garden Fete and in the campaign to retain Mount Sion and the services that it provided in Tipperary Town. Another string to Mary’s bow was in TARA, the Tipperary Active Retired Association. She was majorly involved in the organising of various outings and events and also held the role of President of the Association. Mary Swords was just a wonderful person who gave of herself for the benefit of others. She was always available to the community to support events or to fundraise, and she was never found wanting when called upon to help an organisation or a person in need. She was also very involved in the Parish Lay Ministry Team and her faith meant a great deal to her. Mary also had a great fun side to her and this came to the fore when she took part in the TV series ‘First Dates’ in March 2021. Mary proved to be hugely popular with viewers and became a national celebrity. In looking
back over Mary’s life it is the importance of family and her contribution to community that stand out particularly. She assisted so many different organisations and groups throughout her life, and her loss to the community is immeasurable. She will be greatly missed by all those who knew and loved her. May her gentle soul Rest in Peace. Mary will repose at Whelan’s Funeral Home, Bansha Road, Tipperary Town on Tuesday evening, September 10th, 2024 from 5:30pm to 7pm. Mass for Mary will take place in St. Michael’s Church, Tipperary Town on Wednesday 11th of September 2024 at 12 noon and burial afterwards in St. Michael’s Cemetery Tipperary Town. Deepest sympathy to her children Michelle, Seán and Jackie, her grandchildren Kayleigh, Shauna, Aaron, Chloe, Robyn, Cathal, Lauryn, Tomás and Gráinne, her great-grandchildren Aedlinn, Evan, Lucia and Devon, her sisters, sons-in-law Stephen and Pat, daughter-in-law Caroline, nephews, nieces, extended family and her close friends, Ann and the members of the ‘Tuesday Club’.

O’Heney to make a run for the Dáil
Newly elected Councillor announces his intention to contest the upcoming General Election
Cllr John O’Heney calls for more support for parents of children
with additional needs in Pre-Budget Submission
BY MARTIN QUINN
Cllr John P O’Heney is making a Pre-Budget Submission to the Government in support of parents of children with additional needs. O’Heney, who has a background in teaching children with additional needs, feels that parents need more support and should not have to be consistently looking for resources to support their families.
“Many parents of children with additional needs are often left looking for resources and support systems, and this is putting unnecessary pressures on their families. Amongst several proposals submitted, Cllr O’Heney is looking for more respite
services for children throughout South Tipperary, an increase to the Carers Support Grant, and for Housing Adaptation Grants to be more readily accessible to those in most need. Waiting Lists exist for access to Occupational Therapy and Speech and Language Therapy and we have to do much more to eradicate these waiting times. The West Tipperary County Councillor’s submission in support of parents with additional needs is to be sent to the Department of Finance and also to the Department of Children, Equality, Disability, Integration and Youth this week.
Independent Cashel-Tipperary based County Councillor John O’Heney, has announced that he will contest the upcoming General Election in the Tipperary South Constituency. In June of this year, Cllr. O’Heney successfully contested the Cashel-Tipperary Local Elections, topping the poll as a first-time Candidate in the area, with an unprecedented 2,534 first-preference votes. Since the Local Elections, O’Heney has wholeheartedly committed to his role as a County Councillor, with the same enthusiasm and energy that he had previously shown throughout his many years of Voluntary and Community Service. Speaking on his decision to run Cllr O’Heney said that after careful reflection, he had made the decision to contest the General Election in the Tipperary South Constituency. “I feel a strong sense of responsibility to the people of this Community and I feel I have a duty of care to the people of the Constituency to provide them with a Candidate that will deliver the highest level of representation possible. Although I have only been a sitting Councillor since June, this
decision has not been made lightly. It is not a matter of over-reaching, but rather of recognising that while I can accomplish a great deal for the community as a Councillor, I can achieve even more as a National representative. I am committed to ensuring that the voices of South Tipperary are heard at national level and I am committed to fighting for the interests of this Constituency, ensuring that our voice is heard loud and clear in the Dáil. The challenges we face, whether in rural development, local business, or social issues, demand effective and dedicated leadership. I am eager to take my experience, dedication, and passion for public service to national level, where he I believe that I can make a greater impact for the people of South Tipperary. With a proven track record of commitment to my community and a clear vision for the future, I am ready to represent the Constituency with integrity, energy, and a deep sense of responsibility. I look forward to engaging with voters in the coming months and working together to bring about meaningful, lasting change for the region” concluded O’Heney.
Launch of West Tipperary Youth Forum
Cllr John O’Heney has announced the launch of the West Tipperary Youth Forum, as a means of getting more young people involved in our area. Making the announcement the West Tipperary Councillor says that it is hugely important that young people have their say in what happens in our area. “Young people need to feel that their voice is being heard and their ideas are listened to. Encouraging our youth to be involved in our area will give them a sense of social responsibility, foster volunteerism and allow them to have pride in West Tipperary and hopefully in time this will benefit all the areas that they come from and the backgrounds that they represent. I am launching the West Tipperary Youth Forum, as a pilot initiative. I am currently in the process of speaking to all Secondary Schools in the area with the aim of creating a committee of local Students from our Secondary Schools and College Students. As part of this programme I will meet with this Working Committee every few weeks during the School/College Term. The aims of the project are to allow students to bring their concerns and their ideas directly to me. Thereby students can have their Voices heard in a meaningful way. An opportunity
will be given to some interested Students to shadow me as part of their work placement. Our West Tipperary Youth Forum Committee will ultimately aim to draft and create a motion that can be passed at Council level, that they feel would be of real benefit to the local Community. If you know any students (TY or 5th Year) or college students, that would have an interest in this project, please make them aware of it and ask them to contact me via email at johnpoheneypc@gmail.com, and more details will follow soon” said the Councillor.

Following last Sunday’s West Quarter Final clear cut victory over the Kickhams, Cappawhite will come well prepared and should prove formidable opponents.
Should an injury free Sologhead convert the last fifteen minutes of the Lattin Cullen game into a 60 minute game we have no doubt they are well capable of seeing off the Cappawhite challenge. Throw in is 7pm in Clonoulty.

Ballylooby old school reunion took place on Sunday August 25th 2024 in the Community hall (Old School) Ballylooby.
The school closed in 1964 and this was the first ever Reunion. There was a large gathering of former pupils from near and far. We were delighted to welcome our PP Fr John Nally who addressed the gathering. Chairperson of Ballylooby Community Council Pat Reidy welcomed all the guests and spoke briefly about the organisation of the event and the old school He then conducted a roll call which was answered impeccable but it also caused great mirth. The chat and banter resounded all afternoon. The vast array of old photographs displayed generated great interest. Everybody enjoyed the refreshments provided by the community council members and loyal volunteer’s. Old friendships were renewed and new ones formed. A sincere thank you to the people who helped us to organise this memorable event. Thanks also to our generous sponsors who never let us down. From the feedback we have received everyone seems to have enjoyed revisiting their old Alma mater.
Thanks Pat.

Shanbally United. The youths began their league campaign on Saturday with an away fixture at Cashel. Short a number of players through injury and school events this young team put in a notable performances in their first outing at this age level. Cashel started strongly but it was the visitors who scored first when Conor English found the net with a fine finish on 24 minutes.
The home side levelled matters ten minutes later but Harrison Conway gave Shanbally the lead once more before the interval with an excellent goal.
With no subs on the line the second half was going to be a big test for Shanbally, but they stuck to their task and gave it their all, creating some excellent chances along the way. Heartbreak struck two minutes into injury time when Cashel scored to force a draw which they barely deserved.
The Juniors were away to Cullen-Lattin
place in the individual U12 contest at the European team and Individual Mounted Games Championship in France’s Loire Valley. Competing in these games requires a huge level of riding skill, fitness, agility and concentration. Robyns eight year old sister Fern was also an individual competitor in her age group while her 17 year old sister Lily was a member of the Irish team that competed in the Under 18 competition. Robyn is a past pupil of Killurney NS and a Tipperary Pony Club member. Indeed a bright future beckons for Robyn, Fern and Lily in the showjumping world, best wishes going forward.

They battled for the remainder of the game without scoring or conceding and showed that there is the potential for better days to come.

Football silverware for Carrick Davins after comfortable South final victory
Souty Tipperary Junior ‘C’ Football Final
CARRICK DAVINS 4-16 CLONMEL OG 0-9
CARRICK DAVINS were comfortable winners of the South Tipperary Junior ‘C’ Football Final when accounting for Clonmel Og by a margin of 19 points in a one-sided decider played at Kilsheelan on Saturday evening.
Quickly into their stride from the throw-in the Carrick-on-Suir side were 1-8 to 0-1 ahead within 18 minutes thanks in the main to a third minute goal from John Murphy. However, it was in the second half that they really kicked on with three further goals while cruising to victory by 4-16 to 0-9 at a sensibly blown-early final whistle.
The sides had met earlier in the competition when the Reds prevailed by six points but a much closer final was expected this time around with silverware on offer. However, as it transpired the destination of the trophy was known all too early in what proved to be a disappointing divisional final. Following Conor O’Leary’s game-opening point, it only took two and a half minutes for the first goal to arrive when John Murphy scored for Davins with a rocket low past Johnny Cagney. Over the next 15 minutes, in a dominant performance, the Davins out-pointed their rivals by seven to one, all scores coming from open play.
With the skilful Carrick Davins captain Adam Foran directing affairs from midfield, their sev-
en points were scored by John Murphy (2), Mikey Ryan (2), Ray Cooke, Mark Roche and Kevin Butler. In the opening 18 minutes Clonmel Og’s solitary white flag was raised by midfielder Griffin O’Keeney.
The second quarter saw the Eoin Fallon managed Clonmel side enjoy their best spell of the hour and in the run-up to halftime they added five points to just two conceded.
In the 19th minute corner-back Alex Greene joined the Clonmel Og attack to send over a point and soon afterwards Jake O’Donnell with a free made it 1-8 to 0-3. Davins centre-forward Mikey Ryan then had his third point of the final when finishing a move which involved Patrick Harris and Kevin Butler in the making. The lead was back out to eight points by the 23rd minute when John Murphy tagged on a free.
Three unanswered points went the way of ‘The Óg’ in the final five minutes of the first half including two excellent efforts from centre-forward Dean Kelleher who took on the Davins defence twice with incisive running and finished both efforts well. In between that Kelleher brace, Jake O’Donnell added a free.
At half-time Carrick Davins were still comfortably seven points up and looking all-over winners when leading 1-10 to 0-3.
Referee Paddy Ivors had to
restart the second half a second time after just 20 seconds when Clonmel Óg goalkeeper Johnny Cagney was late for the throw-in. The former county senior footballer’s first action was retrieving the ball from the back of his net when a move up the right wing by Davins’ Kevin Butler fed Mark Roche and he cut in along the end line to find the net. Now ten points to the good, the Stephen Cronin managed Davins were home and hosed.
Man of the match Adam Foran and the influential Patrick Harris extended the advantage to a dozen with a point apiece before Clonmel Og hit back with two points in a minute from Alex Slattery and Simon Ahearne from a tight angle.
Davins’ third goal - and Mark Roche’s second of the final - came at the end of the third quarter to stretch the lead out to 13 points. Clonmel Og had their final score of the game in the 46th minute, a free from Sean Cagney won by the lively Johnny Stokes who was proving a handful since his second half introduction.
Down the stretch it was all oneway traffic with further points from Lee Mackey, Adam Foran (a free off the ground from 45 metres) and Alan Redmond after good work by Jake Maher.
There was a somewhat poignant conclusion to the game, in what was a sad week for the Faulkner family and the Davins club in general. Just two days after the funeral of the highly regarded and well respected Alan Faulkner, a stalwart for the club over his lifetime, his son Luke banged home
the Davins fourth goal. His late father would have loved to have seen it and share in the win. The final score of the game was a sweet point from an angle scored by Alan Redmond.
Prior to the throw-in for the final, a minute’s silence was observed as a mark of respect to the late Alan Faulkner, Carrickbeg, who died on 31st August. Ar dheis Dé go raibh a anam dílis.

First half spurt helps Moyle Rovers on way to South Junior ‘A’ hurling crown
SOUTH TIPPERARY JOHN QUIRKE
JEWELLERS JUNIOR A HURLING FINAL MOYLE ROVERS 1-22 ST PATRICK’S 0-18
TWELVE months on from the disappointment of a shock defeat in the final to Clonmel Og, Moyle Rovers made no mistake this time round with a seven-points victory over St Patrick’s in the South Tipperary John Quirke Jewellers
Junior ‘A’ Hurling Final played at Kilsheelan on Sunday afternoon.
The game’s decisive period was the second quarter when the Monroe side put clear daylight between themselves and their opponents, outscoring them by 1-10 to 0-5 during that purple patch of play. First half substitute Stephen Quirke made a huge difference following his introduction after only six minutes for the injured Sean Keating, and it was Quirke’s four first half points plus a well-finished goal by Dean English that gave Moyle Rovers a cushion they never fully relinquished.
At the interval Rovers were full value for their eight points advantage, 1-13 to 0-8.
Credit to St Patrick’s who despite facing into the breeze and the loss of a player through a red card in the 50th minute put it up to their more seasoned rivals in the second half. Despite the odds, the Anner Park side had narrowed the gap to three points with three minutes of normal time remaining, thanks in no small way to the huge contribution of Cathal Foley. But John McGrath’s side, calling on that extra reserve of experience, stemmed the tide with Stephen Quirke and Luke Delahunty hitting a pair of vital points each at the end to finally seal the deal.
The opening minutes were titfor-tat, the sides level on three occasions in a low-scoring first quarter. Cathal Foley’s first free of the day gave St Patrick’s their only lead in this final and it was 0-3 each after 13 minutes. Within a minute of his introduction Stephen Quirke had a goal chance for Rovers but Johnny Moroney did very well to deny a well drilled low effort. The highlight points of that opening period came at opposite ends scored from distance by Stephen Quirke and Tony O’Brien out on the sideline.
The Powerstown/Lisronagh parishioners soon began to find their range hitting six of the next seven points from Rory Collins, Stephen Quirke (2x65s), Kevin Grace, Luke Delahunty and a Dara Ryan (free) softly given, with St Patrick’s only mustering an Aidan Fitzgerald point in response. There was no doubt that Rovers were enjoying far more possession and should well have been further ahead than 0-9 to 0-5 at this juncture but a half dozen wides and balls dropping short were disrupting their haymaking.
St Patrick’s tried to pull themselves back into the game with excellent points from Tony O’Brien, Cathal Mahoney and Cathal Foley, but Rovers were matching them with quality points of their own from Riain Quigley and Stephen Quirke leaving the scoreline at 0-11 to 0-7 before the game’s only goal arrived.
Having lived dangerously on a few occasions up to this, St Pat-
rick’s were punished just before half-time. Stephen Quirke and Dara Ryan were involved in teasing open the defence and when the chance fell to corner-forward Dean English he rattled the net from close range.
Before the interval Cathal Foley (free) and Riain Quigley traded points to send Moyle Rovers to the break eight points clear.
Like in the first half a Cathal Foley free opened the account after two minutes and immediately St Patrick’s had a big chance of a goal when Foley played Tony O’Brien through but somehow Brian Gleeson’s goal stayed intact before Jamie Broderick pointed the recycled ball. It was a big moment in the game and St Patrick’s could have done with a green flag then.
At the three-quarter mark Rovers were still those eight points clear at 1-18 to 0-13, Cathal Foley keeping St Patrick’s ticking over with three points (two frees) to scores for Rovers from Killian Butler (2), Man of the Match Stephen Quirke and Dara Ryan (free).
Backs to the wall now, St Patrick’s began to assert themselves more and point by point they narrowed that gap with five points without reply in a 12-minute period from William Cleere, Cathal Foley (3, one free) and Cian Cranitch, with the Foley brace from play particularly rousing for the Cloneen/Drangan followers. Half-way through that 12-minute revival St Patrick’s were reduced to 14 men when referee Michael Kennedy had no hesitancy in red-carding Tony O’Brien further increasing the gradient as they attempted to chase down the leaders with time running out. Suddenly, Rovers, who had been cruising along for most of the game, now only had a puck of the ball to spare at 1-18 to 0-18 with all the momentum with St Patrick’s. However, an excellent point from a difficult angle by Luke Delahunty, when they needed it most, settled the Rovers. Stephen Quirke then sent over a monster of a free from well inside his own 65 for more breathing space, before two from play from Delahunty and Quirke ensured
the Seamus Maher Cup was heading down the Scotch Road.
For Moyle Rovers there were fine displays in defence from the McKeown brothers, Cathal and Brian, Ben Owens and Shane Ryan. Rian Quigley and Kevin Grace got through huge work at midfield. All six of the starting forwards scored, while it was 2015 Tipperary All-Ireland final minor captain, Stephen Quirke, who stood out most with a seven points contribution, four from play and three long distance frees.
Following last weekend’s Junior Football South Final win, this week has been disappointing for the hurlers of St Patrick’s with two final defeats, U19B and Junior A. Still they can take heart from this performance and the manner in which they battled against a physically stronger opposition. There was a lot to admire from the efforts of Evan Holohan, Pauric O’Brien, Cathal Mahoney, Cian Cranitch at midfield and Tony O’Brien, Daithí Hogan and in particular Cathal Foley who finished the day with 11 points. Their day will come before too long.
Moyle Rovers: Brian Gleeson, Cathal McKeown, Sean Keating, Brian McKeown, Luke Boland, Ben Owens, Shane Ryan, Riain Quigley (0-2), Kevin Grace (0-1), Killian Butler (0-3), Dara Ryan (capt., 0-4F), Rory Collins (01), Dean English (1-0), Anthony Phelan (0-1), Luke Delahunty (03).
Subs: Stephen Quirke (0-7, 0-2x65, 0-1F) for Keating (inj, 6 mins); Daire Luttrell for Phelan (46 mins); Conor McGrath for Grace (54 mins); Nathan Croke for S. Ryan (60+1); Sean Hackett for Butler (60+2).
St Patrick’s: Johnny Moroney, Conor Duggan, Pauric O’Brien, Evan Holohan, Eoin Ryan, Cathal Mahoney (0-1), Michael Boland, Ryan Cranitch, Cian Cranitch (0-1), Cathal Foley (0-11, 0-7F), Aidan Fitzgerald (0-1), William Cleere (0-1), Tony O’Brien (0-2), Richie Needham, Daithí Hogan.
Subs: Bill Cuddihy for Ryan Cranitch (HT); Jamie Broderick (0-1) for Ryan; Finn Madigan for Boland (45 mins).
Referee: Michael Kennedy (Newcastle).

Tempestade storms home in Kilsheelan Gallop Stake
A very strong attendance enjoyed some exciting races at Clonmel on Friday night with the main event being the final of The Kilsheelan Gallop Guys & Dolls Stake which was sponsored by Kilsheelan Gallop. The Graham Holland trained for Larry Dunne Tempestade was the outright race favourite, but his trap draw was an issue being out wide in six. His previous run from five in Cork saw his get into trouble at the opening turn and finish second and her in this final he repeated that form. Ascot Logan from three was away lively with Greenane Toff owned by Gretta Nugent from Clonmel disputing the lead at the opening turn. Tempestade was forced wide and had plenty to do as they faced the far side.
Just a length and a half separating all six runners at the second last bend the favourite searched for a gap but was forced to go wide which he did driving hard to get to the front as they hit the home straight. This is a genuine young greyhound which gives his all on every occasion and here a very deserving two and a half length winner in 29.24. Having clocked 28.49 – 28.62 in previous rounds in this competition this may seem a set back but the genuine way he ran overcoming all obstacles this was a very impressive win. A Sept22 son of Droopys Sydney and Rural Aloha he is a bright prospect for next season. Ballingarry owner Emer Dunne landed the opening race on the card with Emers Niamh who
snatched it from the longtime leader on the line in 29.63.
Michael Ryan from Clerihan landed the opening sprint with Circus Hope who finished very strong in 17.08 while Michael Westlake from Thurles won the eight race with Rockhouse Eddie who showed the stronger finish to the 550 race to win by three lengths in 30.34.
David O Neill from Cahir took the ninth race with Chamberlain Fred who produced a trap to line show in 29.02 and Molly Finn was back on the winner’s podium with Airfield Best who stole the show in the penultimate race in 29.01.
David Hickey of City Of Troy fame landed the final race on a beautiful night when Yankee Daze finished strong to win by a length in 29.59.
Super Logan makes it seven on the bounce for Ascot Kennels Sunday nights card was featured by a very interesting A0/A1 race where the six in a row winner Ascot Logan was bidding to make history but had a very competitive bunch of opponents on this occasion. From the off with a 2.80 split Ascot Logan led by two lengths around the opening two bends. The Wexford challenger Pandereto started to close the gap down the far side with a 16.19 sectional. Very little separating the pair on the run in Ascot Logan owned by Billy Murphy and Frances Mullan dug deep to win on the line by a neck ion 28.87. John Graham Campbell from Thurles had a back-to-back winner
when Bionic Bluebell made the opening race a trap to line show in 29.16 repelling a late challenge from David O Neill’s Chamberlain Bill. Clonmel owner Declan Drohan was all smiles with the determined finish from Wilderness Draem in the second race. Having been led most of the way used the rails to her advantage to win by a length win 29.54. Tom Kiely’s Cuteen Meg was back on the winner spodium winning in 29.56 while Canice Hyland’s
Foxrock Shazzers after finding trouble last time out showed a very nice turn of foot to win in 29.29. A kennel in quite good form of late David Byrne from Mooncoin had Coolgue Noah back to winning ways when winning in 29.46. Cahir owner David O Neill’s Chamberlain Ruby after leading from the second bend narrowly held on to deny another Cahir owner Ciaran Flanagan’s Woodenstown Soul in 29.33. David Lonergan from
Cahir who is well known for his success on the coursing field won the eight race on the night when Tree Top Pat using his physic at the second bend hit the front and held his line to win in 28.89.
Miss Mila Barry and Eleanor O Neill’s Chasing Super showed real guile in the ninth race of the night. Leading early on was passed by Thorney Thistle but on the run in showed real determination to get back up and win by half a length in
29.21. An overdue win for Elizabeth Sives and Joe Horan from Fethard came in the penultimate race when Swift Lilith dominated from the second bend to win comfortable in 29.16. Just after in the final race of the night Eskvale Becky getting past the early leader powered home to a very comfortable win in 29.61 for the same winning connections making it a very short trip back to Fethard for Elizabeth Sives and Joe Horan.

Saints too strong for Cahir
TSDL Premier League
Saints were always on the front foot here and the result was never in doubt after Russell Quirke gave them a first half lead. Jimmy Carr went close on two minutes from an Ed O’Dwyer cross. Joey Mulcahy hit straight at Shane Egan twice before Ed O’Dwyer hit narrowly wide from a Joey Mulcahy pass on 18 minutes.
Shane Egan got down well to his left to make a good save from Jimmy Carr on 21 minutes.
Russell Quirke gave first blood to Saints on 24 minutes when he created space 20 yards out and his left foot shot nestled in the corner of the net. Chris Higgins did well to clear a minute later after Egan had spilled a shot. John O’Brien hit over the bar on 33 minutes for Cahir as they started to enjoy some good possession.
Rhys Byron hit the side netting from a Danny O’Brien pass on 44 minutes but they went to the break a goal down.
Saints continued in the same vein in the second half and got the second goal on 64 minutes when a well-paced Philip Drohan pass saw Jimmy Carr make it 2-0 with a good left foot finish. Ed O ‘Dwyer hit over the bar on 62 minutes from a Philip Drohan pass. Ed then saw an effort
blocked in the area.
Cian O’ Dwyer saw Kuba Beban save at his feet on 85 minutes before Saints sealed the deal late on when substitute Mark O’Keeffe finished well from a Joey Mulcahy pass to make it 3-0 and in stoppage time a delightful effort from Luke Kiely nestled in the top corner of the net to make it 4-0 to the away side.
TSDL Premier League
On the back of two defeats, it was understandable that Bansha Celtic came to the bypass with the intention of making themselves hard to beat. For nearly 45mins of the game they were successful in their game plan by a combination of resolute defending, good goal keeping and spurned scoring opportunities by Clonmel Celtic. The lion’s share of possession from early in the game was with Clonmel Celtic and in the opening twenty minutes Darren Sweeney, Kyle Cuddy and Cian O’Sullivan all came close to getting the opening goal. The breakthrough finally came just before half time when Darren Sweeney beat the defender on the right wing and delivered an inviting cross to the back post where Kyle Cuddy rose highest to head Clonmel Celtic into a
deserved lead. The second half continued in much the same manner with Clonmel Celtic chasing a second goal – Sean Hawkins came close on 50 minutes and shortly after the Bansha keeper failed to hold a shot from Niall Prendergast, allowing Darren Sweeney to react to score Clonmel Celtics second. The third goal came shortly after with Niall Prendergast again provider with a good pass into the path of Darren Sweeney who finished with a well struck shot. Clonmel Celtic were well in control and the fourth goal came from Niall Prendergast with a well-placed shot from 20 yards late into the game to give Celtic a deserved win.

Peake Villa however look like they will challenge for a league title on this form.

Town responded well and should have pulled a goal back when Jake French Davis forced a Borris defender to clear against his own crossbar, but Borris survived to take a two-goal lead to the break.
Town did half the deficit at the resumption through Jamie Carey, but Borris responded immediately to score again through Nolan.
Jamie Lee, Nolan and Tom Ryan were now dominating the game, and the visitors made it 4-1 when Daniel Rafter fired to the net from 20 yards. Town will hope to regroup and find some answers as the face Borris again next week in the Munster Junior Cup.

Galbally in their first home game of the season, but it didn’t go to plan with the away side winning four nil.
There were very few chances in the first half with both sides cancelling each other out but a crazy 10 minute period in the second half saw Galbally score three times. to stun the hosts. Ger Quinlan opened the scoring when a ball was crossed in, and he scored from close range. Galbally had a man sent off with 17 minutes remaining and Wilderness had two one v one’s but just couldn’t get on the scoresheet.
Galbally broke on 87 minutes and sealed the points with a fourth from Scott Fitzgerald. A frustrating day for wilderness when nothing seemed to go their way.

Villa were under pressure yet again for the next few moments of the game but could not be broken down with Keelan Graham and John Walsh working tirelessly in the middle of the field.
The introduction of Villa youth’s player Ben Moroney with 15 minutes to go steadied the ship and an absolute 25-yard wonder strike from the youngster straight into the top corner gave the home side breathing space yet again at 4-2.
With Powerstown driving forward in the last moments of the game, Lucciano, with a moment of magic, skipped past two defenders and buried to the bottom corner for Villa to seal the game 5-2.
A very good result for Peake Villa, who have been working hard in training and it is showing with two wins from two. Best on the day for Villa were Lucciano Carielli, Conor Loughnane, Adam Garret, and man of the match David Purcell.

continued for the next period until a through ball unlocked the Cashel defence and Simon Farrell cooly finished to make it 2 nil on 11 minutes. Only 2 minutes later another crossed ball held up in the wind and Eoin Walsh was first to react to make it 3 nil. The home side started to play some decent football and Darragh Cronin cut in from the right and his shot found the net on 19 minutes. This period of dominance saw Tommy McDonagh run onto a great pass and with the advancing keeper getting a great touch that only fell back into the path of the advancing Suirside man who second time of asking made it 5 nil on 27 minutes and this is how the first half ended.
Cashel Town made some effective changes at half time and with the wind at their backs most definitely started the second half the better team. Their possession and work rate was rewarded on 52 minutes when Jack Price make it 5 -1 with a an opportunistic finish. Cashel continued to enjoy the better of the exchanges but were unlucky not to add to their tally. As their sheer effort took it’s toll on weary legs, Suirside wrapped this one up 7 minutes from the end when John Darmody, got his reward for chasing lost causes by pouncing onto a deflected clearance and finished to the top corner. Conor Makim, working hard all afternoon got his deserved goal and Suirside’s 7th on 86 minutes to close this one out.
Undoubtedly Suirside were worth the win but the scoreline was particularly harsh on the visitors.

This game started at a frantic pace as both teams tried to get on the front foot on what was an immaculate playing surface.
Cashel Town had the first effort on goal through Artem Izhko with the ball comfortably held by Mark Kelly in the Suirside goal. Some good passing through midfield saw the ball crossed in and headed behind for a corner. The resulting corner on 4 minutes saw Jason Coffey float in a ball that was taken by the wind into an unguarded net to give the home side the lead. The frantic pace, particularly in midfield
Old bridge got off to a fast start taking the lead in the first minute through Sean Maher. Moyglass got going and probably just shaded the rest of an entertaining first half where both teams had a few good chances. Old Bridge doubled their lead on 50 minutes thanks to a neat finish from Martin Kennedy. Moyglass pulled one back five minutes later when Niall Doocey finished well following a lovely lay-off by Craig Nolan. While Moyglass were building the pressure looking for an equalizer, a mistake at the back cost them and Old bridge restored their two-goal lead through David Garrett on 70 minutes. Moyglass started to commit more men forward and got their reward on 78 minutes thanks to a good finish from Johnny Gleeson. Again, while pushing for the equalizer with time running out, Old Bridge were rewarded an indirect free inside the box and a clever finish from Sean Maher sealed all 3 points for the visitors.
Saints B conceded two late goals which made the scoreline harsh on them in a game in which they were well in for the most part. It was a slow enough opening 15 minutes in the breezy conditions with both sides trying to get to grips with each other until the 18th minute when Cianan O’Brien got in on the right flank and his cross saw Gus Nolan in the area who found the corner of the Saints net. Saints hit back and on 23 minutes a Micky Bowers header went just wide. From an Alex Webster free kick Gus Nolan fired over the bar on 28 minutes. A free from Niall Hallissey was headed away for a corner on 31 minutes before Micky Bowes was again just wide from a Jamie Malone cross on the left. Faolan Doyle who had a good game in goals for Saints saved from John O’Dwyer on 35 minutes. Cian Crowe saw a goal bound shot blocked on 37 minutes but the score remained at one nil to the visitors.
Saints spurned a good chance on
57 minutes when a strong run down the left by Jamie Malone saw him cross for Cian Crowe who saw his effort hit the bar when he looked likely to level matters up. Both sides used their benches as tiredness set in on their first game of the season. Faolan Doyle did well on 70 minutes to save from John O’Dwyer from a Jamie Roche cross.
Saints conceded two goals in a minute with time running out when substitute Anthony Boyle was on hand twice to convert two crosses in quick succession and ensure the points in this Division 2 clash at the complex. Saints will take plenty from the game going forward and with players showing promise and a few weeks training and matches should see them be competitive in this division.

The home team dominated from the start and it’s no exaggeration to say they could have been three up in the first eight minutes, a combination of gilt edge chances missed and a fine save from the keeper kept it at nil all.
On 28 minutes Cahir came close again when a shot from distance hit the post.
However, from their next attack Cahir finally made the pressure tell when David Clifford finished a good move with a smart finish. The home side continued to dominate and on 41 minutes another good save from the visitors keeper kept the score at 1 nil.
The second half the home team started the better and forced a couple of early corners however, the home team got back on top and continued to create and miss chances
Rosegreen started very well against a strong wind in the first half. Both sides had a few chances, but it was the home side who took the lead with a lovely worked goal from Anto Hoare. Tipp Town came out in the 2nd half like a new a team and quickly equalised. Rosegreen were reduced to 10 men with 20 mins to go but the introduction of the very experienced Davy Brabston changed the game, and his son Christopher scored twice in the last 10 minutes to give the home side a 3-1 win.
