Graphic design portfolio fh design factory

Hello I’m Fiona, a novice graphic designer based in Dublin. My company FH Design Factory was born from my love of art, design & crafting.
I revisited my creative and artistic side as a hobby initially during lock-down & then completed a start your own business course in 2021. I decided I’d like to make it more than just a hobby & took the time to learn the various adobe creative design apps in order to become an adobe certified professional with the aim of setting up my own Graphic Design company.
My professional background consists of working within the Transport industry as well as in the Irish retail tourism sector. For the sake of this portfolio I have included a fictional 2 year junior Graphic Design internship with the Irish T - shirt brand Hairy Baby.
While currently being a freelance designer my aim is to also create a brand of unique unfiltered slogan designs on clothing & gift-ware products that have a more realistic representation of the everyday Irish personality.
Within this portfolio is the various collection of work that was required to be completed during the Adobe Graphic Design Course.
This was an enjoyable assignment to complete, as working with colour themes and images is something I love to do. I took each season and did some brainstorming and picked images that were rich in the colours that instantly reminded me of each of the 4 seasons, using some of my own photos for the process also.
I picked some images of the weather that is typical for each individual season, how it makes me feel and what events it reminds me of during a certain season.

I first sketched out an idea of what id like to create for my logo in my sketch book with a pink neon colour scheme.
I settled on the idea of having my initials with a 80’s retro font within a lips shape.
I chose to use a font imitating neon LED lights which is what the font was actually called for the Design Factory text. To recreate the luminous neon light I used a neon stroke effect on the text within Photoshop to give it a more realistic effect.
The movie Cocktail has given me the inspiration for the neon light effect design surrounding my FH Design Factory logo.
I love the retro 1980’s neon colour tones & the vibe of the Cocktails & Dreams sign which is featured in the movie.
I wanted to create a fun, funky design that has retro vibes with candy pink & neon tones.
My love of retro pin up art & pop art illustration has had a big influence on my own logo design. Its fun, funky & full of attitude which would of been very much a taboo during the conservative era’s of the 1950’s & 60’s when women were expected to be seen & not heard. Andy Warhol & his colorful pop art has always had a huge creative influence on me & the designs that I create. His Marilyn Monroe
pop art & Lips portraits have always been some of my favorite artworks, along with Dali’s Mae West & The Rose.
I always say I was born in the wrong era as I love the rockabilly fashion of the 1950’s, and the images of Rosie Rivots. My creative style is a mixture of the 50’s & 80’s era whilst incorporating a modern twist within my designs.
These are mock ups I created within Photoshop using my logo, for a boutique style shop front & another with a more funky 80’s style office design space.
I also created a number of merchandising mock ups & business cards with my logo for my brand.
A client has requested a poster design and you must create a minimal design poster for a Movie of your choice. The client briefs outlines that they want:
• A4 size
• No more than 2 colours
• No more than 2 fonts
• 1 image
• Only words should be the movie title The client has specified that their preference is for a minimal design style to be used in this brief.
One of my favorite movies is Top Gun, so this is the movie
I chose for the movie poster design project. Its a iconic 80’s action movie with Tom Cruise as a naval aviator called Maverick in the Ameri can Air force.
The 2 instant iconic images from this movie for me are of Maverick’s flight helmet & of his aviator Ray Ban shades. I picked the minimal image of the Ray Ban shades & decided on black & white in keeping with the brief.
The font for the movie title was also called “Top Gun” & I chose a blue gradient which is one of the colours from the American flag. I used a stock image for the movie credits.
• Design an A4 poster to visually advertise a bottle of perfume
• Choose the ONE season you enjoyed developing the most
• Select one perfume bottle from the supplied images
• Include text hierarchy ( a head line and some body text)
• Include a call to action ( eg. a website, on sale here, release date)
I chose the perfume Euphoria by Calvin Klein, as its a perfume that I often wear so I could relate to the emotions & memories that the sent evokes.
My summer mood board was my favorite one to work on so this is the colour pallet I went with.
I got inspiration from 80’s neon themed images & picked an image that correlated to the name of the perfume “Euphoria”.
I wanted a fairly minimalistic design, for to evoke the feelings & emotions of sensuality & exhilaration while in keeping with the design brief. The background photo was chosen to give a romantic backdrop while allowing the seductive 80’s themed image of the female to stand out & be the focal point of the poster.
The brief for this project is to create a book cover for a book called Dreams using the colour scheme from one of my 4 mood boards, so I decided to chose to my summer mood board.
The inspiration for this book cover design is from one of my favorite Disney animated movies Alice in Wonderland, and the iconic line from the movie “Its all a Dream Alice”. The white rabbit & his pocket watch gave me the idea for the wall of clocks.
I used an imagine of a female which depicts her face melting into the water and then placed the wall of clocks image over this layer but having it at lower opacity level. Dali’s melting clocks also gave me inspiration for the wall of clocks image, and I chose the 2 tone image of the floating clouds as the backdrop for the back book cover.
The font is of a classic font with some bevel & embossing effects on each.
Create a logo concept for each of the business names and taglines.
The logos will be used on all types of branding from print to social media.
• You must use Adobe Illustrator to create your concepts.
• You can only use vector shapes and text to create the logo concepts
• Create 9 Art-boards in Illustrator each 400 x 400px
• Each Art board must contain a logo.
This project took the longest to finish as there was 9 individual logos which I had to research & design. It was defiantly a challenge for me to create designs using Adobe Illustrator compared to Photoshop as it is vector based rather than raster based.
I created vector images that were consistent with the themes of the various company names while also making the logos instantly recognizable without over cluttering the main image.
I used colour theory to correspond with each of the 9 company logo Names & themes while also being esthetically pleasing to the eye.
