Herriman Receives Nursing Scholarship The Board of the Community Foundation for the Twin Tiers (CFTT) announced that Kalie Herriman (pictured) is the recipient of the Elizabeth Alamo Nursing Scholarship award this year. Kalie is a Waverly High School graduate and is pursuing a degree in nursing at Corning Community College this fall. Elizabeth Alamo, a resident of Waverly, established the scholarship for graduates of Waverly High School who pursue a degree in the field of nursing . The Town of Owego will dedicate its new 9/11 Memorial on September 11, at 8:30 am, at Hickories Park in Owego. The memorial honors Derek Statkevicus, an Apalachin resident, who was killed while working on the 86th floor of South

Tower of the World Trade Center. The town will also remember Tioga County Fire Coordinator John Scott who was an enthusiastic supporter of the project from its inception. For more info, go to www.townofowego.com.

“Thank You” from Angels Over 3 Iraq & Afghanistan The Angels Over Iraq & Afghanistan group thank the community for its support in making their 9th annual community yard sale fundraiser a success. Whether you donated items or came to shop some of the thousands of items that were on sale, Angels Over Iraq & Afghanistan say “Thank You!” The group raised $2,100. All proceeds go towards shipping costs and items for care packages to deployed soldiers. The Angels Over Iraq & Afghanistan also thank the Owego United Methodist Church and the Angels and their families for their dedication and commitment. The next fundraiser will be a Winter Chicken BBQ (see the organization’s Facebook page for more information). To have a soldier receive care packages, email angelsoveriraq @stny.rr.com Angels over Iraq & Afghanistan is a not for profit organization formed in 2006 and is comprised of youth age 8 to

18 from Tioga County. The group sends care packages to deployed soldiers stationed overseas serving our country. Donation of items for the care packages are always welcome, list of items can be found on their Facebook page.
