LIFELINES

“The Lord says to us, ‘Do not fear: I am with you’ (Isaiah 41:10). He speaks these words not as one who merely observes our pain, but as one who experienced immense suffering. And the very wounds that bear witness to his suffering indicate the essence of our identity and worth: we are loved by God. Reflecting on the healed wounds of the Risen Christ, we see that even our most difficult trials can be the place where God manifests his victory. He makes all things beautiful. He makes all things new.”

HOLY DAY OF OBLIGATION—ASCENSION OF THE LORD—THIS THURSDAY, MAY 9TH

Vigil Mass—Wednesday, May 8th—6:00PM—St. Augustine Church

Holy Day Mass—Thursday, May 9th—6:00PM—St. Francis Church

The Ascension of the Lord is the event, where Jesus arose into heaven, at the end of His time on earth. Jesus' time on earth began with His birth and was interrupted for three days by His death on the Cross. During that time, He descended into the realm of the dead and preached the Gospel to the good people who died before Him. This allowed those good and holy souls--the righteous dead, as we call them--who accepted Christ as their Savior to proceed to heaven. On the third day after his death and burial, Jesus Christ was raised from the dead, an event we call the Resurrection. He spent the next 40 days preaching and preparing His disciples to perform the work of preaching and baptizing all people. At the end of this 40 day period, Jesus ascended into heaven.

Deacon’s NOTE

Recall some me in your life when you realized that you were loved. What is that memory like? Can you recall some me in your life when you realized that you loved someone? What is that memory like?

Jesus’ ‘new’ commandment is that we love one another. He assured us that to be like him is to live the Chris an life as loving as we possibly can be. To be filled with this blessing means that I will be called to love, to love all, without any excep ons, as Jesus did.

Deacon Ron Maida—dorronto@protonmail.com
