In keeping with the decision of the membership of the club, I decided to update the look and the content of the news letter. I am hoping the bold new look will meet with your approval. The growing Tioga Region is a thrill to myself as well as all the members who

have made comments to me. The youth of some of our new members brings a fresh, and to me, exciting enthusiastic energy to our group. 2013 is our28th year but I feel that we are in a realigning movement that will bring us into a more community oriented organization.

I recently was in contact with Bob Parrish, AACA’s director of Regions Development and SupportEastern Division who gave me some suggestions for increasing membership as well as bringing us into a more active and lively club. We are moving forward!

January Meeting We will meet on January 14, 2013 at the Tioga County Office Building in the Conference Room.

The meeting is at 7:ooPM. We will be looking at the plans for the Flea Market in March as well as

the car show in August.Your input on both these events is important. See you there.

A Memory Search The picture to the right is of the center section of a car grill that became what is now called an orphan car. Can you guess the year and make? Answer on page 8. No peeking!

Tioga Region is a premier car club!

How Long Has It Been? I can’t believe how long it has been since I first became a member of Tioga Region. I attended my first meeting in February 2007. Little did I know at that first meeting that within a year I would be asked to present myself for the election to president of this club that I have grown to love. When I first joined the Antique Automobile Club of America I was joining what I knew as the foremost automobile club in the automo-

tive world. Then in joining Tioga Region I was aligning myself with the club that presented one of the outstanding car shows in the southern tier. Jumping ahead to December 2012 I have once again been rewarded with the honor to have been elected to lead Tioga Region as your president. I believe that this year Cheryl and I will again be reminded of the friendly and industrious

people who love the collector car hobby who are now our friends. Thank you for the trust that you have given us in the last five years, we will both work hard this year to keep Tioga Region the best club we can give you. Also thank you for the gift certificate to Red Lobster, we will enjoy a night out thinking of our friends at Tioga Region.

Dear Santa I know it seems unusual to receive a letter from a man who is in his 70’s but I feel it is necessary to remind you of a wish that you forgot. After all you have been through in the last 365 days I can understand you missing one wish, but this is one that I have had for the last 10 to 15 years. I know, I know, you’ve been subject to all those selfish demands from kids who bring a list as long as your arm of gifts that they will break in less than an hour of opening the package. And then there were all those brats that screamed at the top of their lungs when their parent put them on you lap. But of course the worse were the ones who decided your lap was the proper place to relieve themselves. I still can’t understand just how you manage to be at all the malls and stores at one time while supervising the elf workforce in the workshop. You are truly amazing! That trip you make the night of December 24-25 each year has to tire you out but somehow you always seem to make it without fail. How many years has it been now that you’ve been doing this? All those transfer points that you use throughout your trip have to be co-ordinate with split timing accuracy to make the reloading of the sleigh flawless. I have to imagine that there are a million reports that fly from you to the site managers so that the transfers go off without a hitch. The tons of gifts that are loaded in the sleigh each Christmas have to create a massive restoring program that must take the better part of the year to accomplish. That’s why I think you should just leave the sleigh at home when you deliver my gift. You can deliver it for my birthday or even Orthodox Christmas. A 1931 Chrysler Imperial CG Roadster! In keeping with your color preferences, red would be nice! NEWSLETTER

Chrysler Museum Closing In the spring of 2011 Howard and Emily joined Cheryl and I in a tour of the Walter P. Chrysler Museum. The four of us were involved in the Chevrolet club’s “Happy Days Tour”, and this was our last joint tour before returning home. The museum was a part of the Chrysler Campus where all but the building of the cars took place. This facility held all the design, testing , and planning for the whole international operations of the Chrysler Corporation. The museum contained some 67 vehicles representing the history of Chrysler Motors as well as several dioramas depicting thee formation and

growth of the nation’s third largest automobile manufacturer. Two stories of the building as well as the basement were filled with memorable cars from as early as the 20’s through the 70’s. It is then a bit of a disappointment to learn that the museum is closing. Financial hardship is the cause for this closing, but the cars are being purchased by the Chrysler Group LLC as a move to preserve the collection for future generations. The collection will now be open to the public on a limited bases as the G.M. Heritage Museum now operates. How sad that our economy has created these changes.
