March- April 2016

Meeting Information So much is happening it might take a lot more space than is here on this page to cover. The February meeting at Blue Dolphin was attended by 24 members as well as a guest and his family who have made the decision to join us as our newest member. The new proposed bylaws were reviewed with no suggestions for revisions or additions, however there were some clarifications or interpretations discussed. We also were presented with plans

for a new layout of the show field that removes conflict between the entertainment and the administrative positions. We intend to make the work of our registration and vote tallying easier for those working those needed elements. Simply put we are moving the main tent from proximity with the show field to the other side of the entry bridge. This step eliminates the annoying noise when the ladies are trying to tally the votes as well as giving

them more time to file the records of the cars on the field without having interruptions for information that can be better handled by other personnel. Another issue that was discussed was the issue of for sale signs on the show field. The decision made is that a tasteful sign not to exceed the size of an index card would be permitted. Our next meeting will be April 4th at 6:00PM at the Blue Dolphin. We will vote on adopting the new bylaws then.

GOOD NEWS-BAD NEWS I know, I know I have a tendency to push my luck when it comes to my collector cars. My only excuse is that I believe a car is meant to be driven. So yes, I once again pushed my opening of the driving season for the collectors that I own that are on the road.

for Sunday the 6th I spent the day at church, home, and a visit to a friends home for supper. Monday the 7th though was a different matter. Cheryl again had a sub job at school so….. “When the cat is away the mice will play.”

It was now time to wake the Monte Carlo! With March 5th I just had to the temperature hovering get the VW out to see around 50 and the sun what it would need to be shining, “Carla” needed to ready for the 2016 driving be coaxed for several minseason. The car fired well utes to settle down to a but soon started to show smooth runner. me that in addition to the The little bit of dust that problem of a sagging had accumulated on the front end, the engine is car needed to be removed running too rich. Could so the first step was to the choke be sticking? visit the car wash, yes I My five mile, give or take know that is the lazy way shakedown run with the to do it but my delicate “Bug” was still fun as it hands don’t like to get was good to be able to run wet in cold weather. a car that needed to have my input in the transmis- The car was running so well that I could not resion. It’s amazing that a sist a short detour to ex1600 CC engine can still tend my time driving kick up it’s heels when leaving the traffic lights! what is still my favorite of my collector cars. Since Cheryl was home

Have you ever noticed that when you are in a car that is running right it seems to take over and dictate that you keep driving especially when there is no one watching. My five mile shake down run became a thirty or forty mile expedition in the country. I know it would be an exaggeration to call this time early spring, but that is what it was feeling like during this delightful run through south Vestal. Yes I even did a run up the mountain to Kopernik observatory and continued along Ridge Road on the return home. The only concern with “Carla” was the small puddle of oil on the floor of the garage where she had set over the winter. “Carla” is raring to go but “Ruby” needs attention. SUMMER IS JUST AROUND THE CORNER!!!!!!!!!

Newsletter Explanation On the preceding page as well as the remaining pages you will find copies of correspondence that have come in in the last month that were addressed to the club or a reproduction of the Rummage Box, a publication of AACA national that contains information vital to the continued growth of not only AACA National but also Tioga Region. In the letter from Bob Perrish I have to admit that it is more work than we are capable of to host a National Meet as we did about 10 years ago, but it might be possible for us to host a tour of the finger lakes either as a Founders tour (post1931) or a Glidden Tour (pre 1931). The above tours could possibly be co-sponsored by either Genesee Valley or Finger Lakes regions. We already have a working relationship with Genesee Valley and I am sure that Finger Lakes

would be easy to contact. Car people enjoy meeting others of their fellow enthusiasts. The flyer for the AACA museum in Hershey lists several events and exhibits either occurring now or in this year. There is also a list of vehicles that have been donated to the museum in the past year. Some of the donated cars might be available for purchase if they are of interest. Cheryl and I had the luck to visit the museum on February 2nd and while there we met Stan Sipko who is the museum curator. Stan took the time to show us the largest peddle car I have ever seen and then helped us to contact the owner of that car so that we could ask him to bring it to our show. There is no foto shop involved in this picture, that is the size of the car! You will notice if you look closely that there is in the back-

ground the Chitty Chitty Bang Bang from the flyer and movie. The reproduction of the Rummage Box has information that I feel is pertinent to our club and it became important that I include it in this copy of Tioga Transmission. I am especially Impressed with the writing of Bob Parrish on the first page. Bob definitely nailed it when he pointed out that we all have different reasons for our membership in AACA. I hope that no matter what your reasons for membership, Tioga Region can answer each of your needs this year! We definitely have a variety of events planned!
