Fort Worth HLAA chapter offers ongoing support to those with hearing loss Losing your hearing can be a scary experience that leaves many feeling isolated. The local Hearing Loss Association of America chapter in Fort Worth, which serves the entire Hoopla readership area, is here to help the hearing impaired find the information and support they need during this difficult time. Expert and experienced speakers at regular chapter meetings will teach you how to best manage your hearing loss and improve your listening skills to live a more active lifestyle. You won’t miss a word at the meetings because the association offers two communication access systems. The hearing loop system sends the voice of the speaker from the microphone into one’s hearing aid. Also, CART (Communication Access Real-Time Translation) types every spoken word onto a screen at the front of the room. Meeting subjects include:
Latest technologies You will learn about the latest developments in hearing aids, implants, assistive devices, communication access, smart phone apps and other technology that can enhance your hearing.
Access to the community Wondering which entertainment venues in your community offer listening systems? Many popular venues, such as Bass Hall Performance Hall, do have system for the hearing impaired.
Members learn to advocate for themselves at home, work and in the community, by mastering simple tools that help you communicate with others. You’ll even learn to advocate for others who are less
Mentors are available Hearing loss affects everyone, including your family, friends and co-workers, so HLAA invites you to bring a partner. Leaders can even set up a private counseling session to help improve communication with that person.
Make new friends HLAA is not only for those who have only recently started to lose their hearing. Longtime members there to socialize can offer a great deal of information as well.
